I cried when I heard this song the first time. Not because the movie, but because Gleason is gone, Big Enos died, and now Jerry Reed is gone too. Those movies always hold a special place in my heart.
Without exaggeration, it is quite possibly the worst film I've ever seen. I mean, what is there to enjoy? The writing is terrible, the script is embarrassing, every scene is a lesson in how not to do continuity, the plot makes no sense, the jokes are dumb, most of the stunts look like the kind of thing you'd see at any demolition derby and not a single one of the support cast could act their way out of a wet paper bag. It sucks on every possible level! Still a guilty pleasure of mine too though.
I was 12 years old when I first heard this song play the movie credits. It sounds even better to me 38 years later, thank you for posting an awesome memory!!
For some reason, this minimalist, hypnotic song, shown over the closing credits of "Smokey and the Bandit 3" (1983) -- and a still of Jackie Gleason as Buford T. Justice, saluting Patton-Style, was going through my head all day, today. And I took a chance that some Saint out here in the Ether had, at some point, bothered to upload it to UA-cam. And, "sure 'nuff." It lived up to my expectations, my memory of being floored by it when I caught the movie on HBO thirty years ago. The movie is kind of a long inside joke, where everyone, including Gleason and the audience are willingly in on it. So, with low expectations, it was actually sort of fun. "Suspension of Disbelief" watching ANY of the Bandit films is an intelligence test. Anyway. Thanks!
We've lost so many of the original cast. Junior (Mike Henry) was the most recent who died. The only ones left are Carrie aka Frog (Sally Field) and Little Enos (Paul Williams)
Every now and then I put this song on cos I love it, but it also feels really heavy to listen to, maybe cos I was just a kid watching these movies, now 38 and all of these legends are gone. You knew the bandit was over when this rolled on the credits, amazing song!
As silly as this movie is, It does make me melancholy. SATB and the Dukes were my childhood jumping 4-wheelers. Surprised I only had a few ER trips!!!! And I'm 46.
The movie has its sadness with this song though cause we know as viewers that it's the end of the trilogy when we hear this song. And it ends with junior running down the track to catch the sheriff. The chase goes on - off screen. When I get to this scene I always feel like, "No! This can't be the end. Drive a little further. Just keep going." : ' (
I would like to hope and feel In my heart that jackie and mike Henry is still out there on interstate and 2 lane black top still chasing burt , Sally and jerry and Fred to this day! Ride on smokey and the bandit !!!!
My brother in law passed earlier this year, and back in the 80s he had this movie on laserdisc. Hearing this song again makes me recant cherished memories of years gone by.
I think we can all say that when we were watching this ending and listening to this theme, We new there would never be anymore Smokey and the Bandit movies, It had run its course. So this theme is fitting for the ending of an era, Thank You guys for many memories, Smokey and the Bandit (1977) , Smokey and the bandit 2 (1980) and Smokey and the Bandit 3 (1983).
Smokey and the Bandit 3 was a bad way to end the trilogy, but when the credits start, see Junior running in the sunset, and this song playing, kinda get a little sad since you knew it was the end. I've heard the first movie will be re-released in theaters next year in honor of it's 40th birthday.
hopefully it is released in theaters again, and I agree about the 3rd film, I have the trilogy and this one is the worst (except for bufords scenes), R.I.P Jerry Reed and Jackie Gleason
I thought Smokey and the Bandit 3 was great!!! If you see it When you're 13 years old like I did,,it was pretty cool learning a whole new level of swearing.....
Thank you so much for uploading this! I've been searching for this song for YEARS. Its beauty has haunted me, but it's been, as you say, impossible to find.
The first time I saw S&TB 3, it was on TV. It must have been not long after Jackie died, because at the end, below the still of Buford T dressed up like Patton, was an 'In Memory Of' script. I was pretty young, and having loved the series, seeing that and hearing this song made it a pretty sad conclusion to the trio.
Growing up in the 80s you look back sometimes not forward so with that in mind I’ve decided I would love to have this as my final song so to speak smokey and the bandit always makes me smile and to that end I do feel this is a perfect song choice xx
A lovely song thanks for uploading. There is a hint of sadness to the lyrics, like it were singing an ode to a passing era, a time that is behind us and the sadness drawn from the knowledge we can never get it back. Chances are slim that we shall ever see another film like Smokey and the Bandit, the time of romancing the outlaw has passed.
The original version had Gleason playing both Buford and The Bandit (which goes to show how bad drug abuse was at the time that someone at Universal actually thought that was a good idea to green light) but the test audiences didn't like it so they reedited the film with Jerry Reed driving the Trans Am instead.
Thanks a lot for posting this! I've been trying to track this down since I first saw the movie on VHS. Gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it, it is the embodiment of bittersweet.
I love this song (and the movie) for so many reasons. Un-ironic reasons at that. It's a bit of a marvel that this thing ever got made, let alone released. Now we have it to hold and treasure. I'm also on my 4th damn replay of this song tonight....
I only got to watch these 3 movies recently. Even though the last movie wasn't the best, this song at the ending credit made it a bit sad. Not just for the end of a classic, but for me, personally, the end of when you can watch a movie and just enjoy it for what it is.
This John Stewart was an exceptional singer and songwriter. He sang with The Kingston Trio after original member Dave Guard left the group. He wrote The Monkees' hit Daydream Believer and no, he never hosted The Daily Show...that guy's name was spelled Jon not John.
when the movie first came out and this palyed at the end i knew and had a feeling it would be the last! Funny I wear a badge to this day and play that when my shift is over at times!
The outlaw run is an endless one It's a hungry night, where wrong is right And the race is done, when the race is won In the morning sun, just look into the light And I'm behind you now, with a ticket for the wind I'm behind you now and you can never win I'm behind you now and your days are getting thin I'm behind you now with a ticket for the wind And the Bandit's trying there's a borderline That's already crossed, when the game is lost And the hunter's luck is a single shot When the sun is hot and the dice are tossed I'm behind now now, with a ticket for the wind I'm behind you now and you can never win I'm behind you now and your days are getting thin I'm behind you now with a ticket for the wind I'm behind you now, with a ticket for the wind Yeah, I'm behind you now, oh, you can never win I'm behind you now and your days are getting thin I'm behind you now with a ticket for the wind Yeah, I'm behind you now with a ticket for the wind With a ticket for the wind, with a ticket for the wind Oh, with a ticket for the wind, with a ticket for the wind...
Just finished watching the movie off the dvr and liked this song. I recognized the voice but didn't remember the song. Crazy goofy movie. Gleason was the the star in this one. What a riot.
Notice that this song was the End Credits song! End of the franchise, great way to cap it off. There were a few other movies loosely-based on "The Bandit" after this last theatrical release came out. But, most of those were made-for-tv and sucked. I think the only ones left are Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, and Junior from the original. Paul Williams is, played Little Enos Burdette, and Williams is a songwriter/composer now. Last movie I saw him in was Princess Diaries 2. I think he may be in a cable series run by either HBO or Showtime. The days such as movies like these are Gone and NEVER Will be Again
I'm pretty sure he never had any intention of doing part 3, he was tired of the Bandit series and was busy with Stroker Ace the same time SATB3 was being made. But he agreed to the short cameo at the end
its good to know everyone on this page feel like i do and i agree with all these movies are so good and its apart of great movies in histroy jackie is waiting for burt and sally to finsh the chase he is racing jerry now but i am glad for the memorys and the song is sad but hey we can laugh and remember when movies had real stunts not computer added crap..
I didnt think they were all that bad, I loved the Dodge Stealth and Brian Bloom did okay as the Bandit, I dont get why that didnt get picked up as a TV series or why everyone gives it so much crap
Smokey and the Bandit was a good picture 31 was a great picture I just loved one Jack and Lisa stole the Greyhound bus cuz I was a bus driver myself and a trucker but holding on they were just having fun what do you like to do bad or good I wish there to make another one cuz I'll try to truck Stone Cold said so
Unless you count the 4 knock-offs from the 1990s, which I highly doubt anybody ever will. They're even WORSE than the third film of the original trilogy. No Burt Reynolds, whatsoever. Brian Bloom is in them, instead, and worst of all, the Trans Am got replaced by a piece of shit Dodge Stealth. Emphasis on "PIECE OF SHIT."
I have to disagree with that....I loved the 3rd gen black and gold Trans Ams as a kid...I was a huge Knight Rider fan and used to draw pictures all the time of those '82 -'84 Trans Ams. I thought they were the coolest cars ever made. I didn't know until much later how slow, rust prone, unreliable and poorly built/engineered they were. "Typical GM crap!" as my dad used to say
I cried when I heard this song the first time. Not because the movie, but because Gleason is gone, Big Enos died, and now Jerry Reed is gone too. Those movies always hold a special place in my heart.
❤ me too
Now Burt Reynolds and Mike Henry are gone too. The only big stars left is Sally Fielf and Paul Williams (Little Enos Burdette)
@@TwinStickFilmsboth Sally Field and Paul Williams are in good health and spirits so I'd say they're definitely sticking around.
RIP Bandit ,ride on together with Snowman and Smokey.
This song was the best part of that movie.
👍
Although most fans didn't like 'Smokey 3', I enjoyed it!
Without exaggeration, it is quite possibly the worst film I've ever seen. I mean, what is there to enjoy? Still a guilty pleasure of mine too though.
This song always bring a tear to my eye. Smokey and The Bandit forever.

"Daddy! Daddy! Don't leave me!" *money flying everywhere*
Lol who could ever forget that part
I would have let Daddy go on and had fun at the party with the money
Don't forget about the girl Buford meets
RIP Burt Reynolds We will Still MISS YOUU 💔
This song is better than the whole movie
This song has always had a hint of sadness to me. Great stuff - glad I found it again after forgetting about it for years.
The song is about the ending of an era. That is why it's sad
shliknik
I always thought it was sad too. I thought of it the day Gleason died.
yes its kinda sad I agree...but love it people these days cant even begin to understand the humor or the times we lived un socialmediaized...lmfao
We've lost so many of the original cast. Junior (Mike Henry) was the most recent who died. The only ones left are Carrie aka Frog (Sally Field) and Little Enos (Paul Williams)
So many people up in heaven, this song makes you cry, rest in peace

The drum licks in this song are awesome...
drum machine.
the little lights arent twinkling i know thanks for noticing
@@craigharris41 this song is an example of early 80s music...drum machine and a synthesIzer
There were no good car chase movies post 83 when this trilogy died. End of a era.

STUPID FLICK -------------- JUST WATCHED IT YESTERDAY ONLINE SUCKED WITH JERRY REED AS BANDIT----
I thought Smokey and the Bandit 3 was great!!! If you see it When you're 13 years old like I did,,it was pretty cool learning a whole new level of swearing.....
not in my eyes
"Can you have a Bandit if you ain't got a Smokey?, then I'm slowing down"
The chase continues forever after the credits
Thank you so much for uploading this! I've been searching for this song for YEARS. Its beauty has haunted me, but it's been, as you say, impossible to find.
This song is actually sad in its on way cause you know its the end of the triology & you'll never see another Bandit movie again..

I love this song, sooooo rare and although it sounds as if it were recorded on a cheap Casio keyboard, it still sounds fab!
End of an Era
brill song and brill movies love all 3 smokeys
Been looking for this song, thanks for posting. Love this song. Great song to end the original franchise. Love those movies.
I remember this watching smokey 3 when I was 5 ! Fantastic!
"Wait daddy, Daddy wait!!!" Easily in my top 10 movie endings lol
Growing up in the 80s you look back sometimes not forward so with that in mind I’ve decided I would love to have this as my final song so to speak smokey and the bandit always makes me smile and to that end I do feel this is a perfect song choice xx

And the Bandits time, there's a borderline, gets me everytime
Smokey and the Bandit 3 had the best soundtrack out of all the films.
I can play this over and over and over and want get tired of this song it rocks baby
I love this song (and the movie) for so many reasons. Un-ironic reasons at that. It's a bit of a marvel that this thing ever got made, let alone released. Now we have it to hold and treasure. I'm also on my 4th damn replay of this song tonight....
It's time for a remake or series
Love this song, slightly sad to listen to….especially with those actors now departed.
Best fucking lyrics i herd in decades,,,how the hell he wrote that
I only got to watch these 3 movies recently. Even though the last movie wasn't the best, this song at the ending credit made it a bit sad. Not just for the end of a classic, but for me, personally, the end of when you can watch a movie and just enjoy it for what it is.

An 80’s song!
I remember seeing this in the theater when I was 11... Classic...
when the movie first came out and this palyed at the end i knew and had a feeling it would be the last! Funny I wear a badge to this day and play that when my shift is over at times!
The outlaw run is an endless one
It's a hungry night, where wrong is right
And the race is done, when the race is won
In the morning sun, just look into the light
And I'm behind you now, with a ticket for the wind
I'm behind you now and you can never win
I'm behind you now and your days are getting thin
I'm behind you now with a ticket for the wind
And the Bandit's trying there's a borderline
That's already crossed, when the game is lost
And the hunter's luck is a single shot
When the sun is hot and the dice are tossed
I'm behind now now, with a ticket for the wind
I'm behind you now and you can never win
I'm behind you now and your days are getting thin
I'm behind you now with a ticket for the wind
I'm behind you now, with a ticket for the wind
Yeah, I'm behind you now, oh, you can never win
I'm behind you now and your days are getting thin
I'm behind you now with a ticket for the wind
Yeah, I'm behind you now with a ticket for the wind
With a ticket for the wind, with a ticket for the wind
Oh, with a ticket for the wind, with a ticket for the wind...
I remember song and the good actor Jackie Gleason but he gone 1987 rip
RIP Burt Reynolds 😪
Well, it's no "East Bound And Down" but what other song could be? HBO used to play this movie literally every other day in the mid 80's.
This was imo the best part of the whole movie
I catch myself singing this when I'm in traffic. I had no idea where I'd heard it until just now.
love this song!!
Legend has it that Junior still ran losing money while screaming "DADDY!! Don't leave me Daddy!" to this day
I don't know why, but this song is strangely beaconing........
Just finished watching the movie off the dvr and liked this song. I recognized the voice but didn't remember the song. Crazy goofy movie. Gleason was the the star in this one. What a riot.

2D2D great hook
Rest In Power, bandit. You and Dom have some fun up there tonight, ya hear?
God I love this!
All smokey and the bandit movies are the best even the third, Reynolds still was in it kind of in the end.
The movie was just plain awful but for some reason this song has always had a haunting appeal.
Bandit 3 is one of those films where the soundtrack is much better than the actual movie
I hear that buddy. I grew up during that era too. Made me car chase guy till the day I die lol
This will always be Jackie Gleason and The Snowman's theme after watching the credits on number 3.
Daddy daddy wait for me lol miss junior
whos sit in a t/a and listen to this cause i have
I'm pretty sure he never had any intention of doing part 3, he was tired of the Bandit series and was busy with Stroker Ace the same time SATB3 was being made. But he agreed to the short cameo at the end
I still want a 1982 TRANS AM DAMM IT !
Awesome! Could you upload Suzi Plastic from the hotel scene? Can NEVER find it!
Its about ending of something never to return, very sad. Reminds me of my dad eho just passed. =(
Thank you very much
im behind you Justice, with a ticket for the wind
Daddy don't leave me
why did the smokey and the bandit trilogy end? i wish the trilogy was still around.
I have a SEALED vinyl copy of this soundtrack. I win :)
jackie "fucking"gleason

There were actually 4 more movies but none of the original cast
You in de clear here, you in de clear dare
@vaportrails44 If memory serves the film was shot with just Gleason, and then Jerry Reed was added for additional filming afterwards.
I didnt think they were all that bad, I loved the Dodge Stealth and Brian Bloom did okay as the Bandit, I dont get why that didnt get picked up as a TV series or why everyone gives it so much crap
I like Jerry Reed's The Legend from the 1st the best though
i seen this movie when it was on tv around 1998 or 1999 i was 10 going on 11
Word is that they are gonna remake and this and rumor is its staring Ashton Kutcher as the Bandit. I have no words
This song could have been epic if promoted.
Smokey and the Bandit was a good picture 31 was a great picture I just loved one Jack and Lisa stole the Greyhound bus cuz I was a bus driver myself and a trucker but holding on they were just having fun what do you like to do bad or good I wish there to make another one cuz I'll try to truck Stone Cold said so
Jackie gleason legend
Yup, I remember that crap on SY-FI channel
Re-elect? Buford is retired in the movie
Jackie Gleason❤

Oh ok i found it
9 people must be Bieber fans.
Buford T Justice.
Very true. And don't get me started on that piece of shit Dodge Stealth that they replaced the Trans Am with.
these songs MAGA!!
