- Step by step video on how to make an epoxy resin table mold. Learn how to make a form for your DIY epoxy table and not have to worry about leaks. If you don't know, anyone who works with epoxy long enough will spring a leak in their mold. And since the epoxy takes days to cure, you can potentially leak hundreds of dollars of epoxy on your garage floor. One drop at a time.

Milo here, I can't imagine people not watching all the way through on all of your videos as they are all fascinating, well spoken and concise.
You have more faith than me Milo! Strong name by the way
Agree they are relaxing to watch the same with guitar making videos also.
@@BlacktailStudio 👍👍
@@BlacktailStudio ballpark price on jus the wood n epoxy?? Thank you if you have time to reply, understand if not. Love the quality builds and vids!!
@@trump45and2zig-zags it depends on what type of wood as to price some of the older looking slabs or cookies can be quite price but walnut (just plain ol walnut) meshes BEAUTIFULLY with dark epoxy 😊
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
AJ here, I’ve probably watched this video 20 times in the past couple of days. Doing my first ever Epoxy resin table this week. It’s going to be a Christmas present for my wife and the kitchen table in our home. Can’t thank you enough for making this video, it’s been invaluable and giving me the confidence to attempt such a large project. Wish me luck!
year later, so how did it go? 😀
Marcel, I started watching videos like these to soothe my battle with anxiety and depression. From the first video I saw of yours over a year ago I’ve looked forward to your next one. For that I’m grateful. Thanks
Ps: liked the grain in this one. 👍🏼
That’s so cool to hear Marcel
Yes Cam has such a great monolog... And somehow calming..... 😉
From Eric in Upstate New York..
I've been building live edge/rustic furniture for a number of years bow but am still experimenting with epoxy. I have to say that this is probably the best video I've ever seen on UA-cam. Your descriptions and guidance are easy to understand and very accurate. I'm glad I found your channel!
Wow, thanks so much
Jonathan:Cam: It would be great to see you do a table from start to finish with basic tools.
Brent in Brazil, Cam, I can never get enough of your videos. Thank you for taking the time to do them for us! I am always at my desk when you upload them. I stop what I am doing to watch! Keep it up!
That’s awesome to hear Brent!
LT here...I'm just getting started with epoxy/resin stuff so I really appreciate the informative videos and explanations. Thanks!
Of all the epoxy video content creators out there, you definitely explain the most thoroughly and your projects are beautiful and seem made to last - it's definitely inspiring! Since I found your content about a month ago, I was inspired to start creating, though on a smaller scale at first. Just started casting my first 2 charcuterie boards. I'm not brave enough to try anything bigger just yet...
Thanks josh!
@@BlacktailStudio you inspired me to start, my garage is embarrassing and my tools are limited lol I got some black walnut😂
My name is Edison and I came upon one your video and I love them. I love woodwork but had to put away my tools to do some travel nursing. I am actually working in Springfield, Oregon right now. I miss doing woodwork but I am planning on getting back into it after doing travel nursing.
Eric: I've no question, just thanks for the video.
I’ll take it Eric!
I don't usually comment, but your videos are truly inspiring. My name is Rick. Born and raised in Portland. You are very gifted!
Awesome rick! Thanks for the comment
GOD BLESS THE METRIC SYSTEM!
I absolutely love this channel. I've heard you say about talking but realized we like hearing the narration. What you do is art and to have someone who can tell us his process and what your thinking was, one takes balls bc I know for me I've never liked hearing my own voice bc I am not used to it. You've created a channel from the ground up and I'm sure I'm not the only one that would love to begin as you once did. That said wanting to and actually doing it is a big difference. The tools alone are so expensive, but everyone has to start somewhere. Thank you for sharing your art with us. I like how honest you are, it builds trust with the viewers. You aren't afraid to make fun of yourself especially when lifting stuff. I believe you said this, but you had no experience with tables or woodworking, epoxy etc? Or had you had some experience? When you first started your UA-cam channel was there ever a time you thought in the very beginning you weren't gonna get enough views and doubted yourself? Having the space to work plus the tools are so expensive but everyone has to start somewhere. Thank you for sharing what you do. Screw the trolls, I give anyone credit who has the balls to come on UA-cam take a chance and believe in themselves. Some people give up the minute they hear some mean people out there not understanding how hard it is to put yourself out there like you've done. Thank you for sharing what you do.
James, do you ever make a table with clear epoxy or is it always tinted?
Justin - yep +1 here - also wondering if clear has ever been attempted. I’ve heard the epoxy can yellow over time if it’s perfectly clear.
David. I am curious as well. I did a clear epoxy on top of my black table top for a layer of protection, but I noticed you can see the tiniest of scratches.
I have seen clear Epoxy table online which very nice! I don't know if Cam has done it yet...
Benjamin, Iranian living in Spain, just wanted you to know you have fans from all over the world, I am planning to do my first epoxy and I'm going to use cake mold for what I'm going to make, I've been watching you for a few weeks and you're inspiration for me, thanks man
Joe Zawodny : When ever I watch your videos, I aways learn something. I'm not blowing smoke. The mold release you show is very good. I've used it before and so far it is excellent. Got tired of tuck tape and I am glad I switched. Thanks a bunch.
Nice, thanks Joe!
Scott here. Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us. I am collecting everything I need to make my first walnut/epoxy table top. I have the slab, I made a flattening jig for my router, I bought a flattening bit, I need to make a mold now so this video has great timing for me. Thank again for sharing.
Nice!!
Jose here. You are crazy inspiring. I’m about to start my first epoxy table project and I’m actually feeling kinda confidant about it, mostly from watching your videos. Thanks much!
Donovan here, your videos are awesome. I love that you narrate the entire time explaining the process and covering every single detail. I build cabinets for a living, and I really want to start doing projects on the side for myself. Fortunately, I work in a huge shop and have access to a wide belt sander. I look forward to following your steps and making my own epoxy tables in the near future. Thank you so much for hosting this channel, you've definitely inspired me. Your work is amazing.
Hello my name is Nilka. This video is very helpful. I'm new to river tables and have been struggling. Thank you for sharing.
Sandie here & watching your videos to make for my own home. (Small table). Thanks for sharing your tips.
I'm Phil... listened to the entire video and enjoyed it thoroughly. Precise, easy to follow, and you speak clearly with great enunciation. I especially commend you on covering the entire process in a streamlined manner with no "wasted" words to speak of (meaning: I hate it when I just want to learn the process and I have to listen to overly wordy/unnecessary commentary that typically bores me and wastes my time. You avoided that pitfall and I hail, "bravo!" This is the first video of yours I have seen, but I intend to view more. Great job!
I totally agree with your assessment! It sucks watching a video where the person rambles on. Cam is super good at explaining what he's doing, and making everything understandable with no wasted words.
Michael here. I'm looking at doing my first resin table project for a desk for my son. I have found your videos to be absolutely awesome and helpful. I was stressing a bit about how to make the mold (what material to use, how to seal it and what to use to ensure it doesn't stick to the table). This video answered all those questions for me and made it a lot less daunting. Thanks and keep it up.
Thanks man! And you’re welcome!
I know this is an old video, so I don't expect you'll read my comments. But, thanks for all your great information. I have learned so much. I'm new to this form of woodworking and only done 5 minute epoxy with pigment on charcuterie board repairs. Done with that
Now! The reason for my comment... ALEX?
100's of videos I've watched and this is the 1st time I've seen ALEX. And this is 3 years old. Why the heck hasn't any other UA-camr ever said that? Always silicone.
And Ace Hardware is now 13$ for GE silicone. I've been doing remodeling for over 60 years and always hated working with silicone caulk. Alex, I like. What a great tip, thanks.
Josh - no questions, but your videos are well done and informative. I will probably never make anything like this, but it's really cool to see the actual amount of time and effort that goes into everything you're doing.
I appreciate that Josh!
Great step-by-step video. Made a checklist. The black void in the table is perfect. It actually seems to accentuate the surrounding wood.
Thanks Stephen!
Paul from Sydney, Australia here. This is one of the most relaxing channels I've seen on youtube. Will be adding this to the list of channels I'll be watching when I'm an old man in a nursing home.
Oh good
@@BlacktailStudio Totally meant that as a compliment. You have a good balance of the detail you go into when you narrate to keep it entertaining. Refreshing to watch your videos instead of the latest Marvel film. Youv'e inspired me to clean out my garage and try to play around with epoxy.
Megan here. I really enjoy watching your videos. I am new to wood working and epoxy so they are really helpful.
Juan here, can’t stop watching and enjoying your videos I actually work doing synthetic floors and I’m thinking on building a table for my tv I’ll Definitely do it during some time this summer
Juan here from South Africa 🇿🇦. Love your work. Thanx for the tips
Thanks Juan! Can’t wait to visit South Africa 🇿🇦
Blacktail Studio be sure to look me up if you ever come. I’m in the friendly city, Port Elizabeth.
The big void on that table is bad ass man! It’s on my favorite tables you’ve done
Oh thanks Doug!
Shaun - thankful for your videos. Just finished my first live edge epoxy table!
Lyndsy here. Thank you for explaining the tools and secrets involved in making your table. I'm taking notes to start making my own. Mahalos
Cheers!
I'm so happy that I won the table!!!!! I can pick it up this weekend to save shipping.
This seems suspicious. But I guess why would someone lie about that? Come on by.
@@BlacktailStudio Lol
Scott replying, continue to totally enjoy all of your videos. But, the most thing I gain is continuing my knowledge base and ways to improve what I do. Again many thanks
Thanks Scott!
I'm grateful that I found your video. Can't wait to watch the rest. Just retired and want to learn this process and make my own dining room table (after trying some smaller end tables). Thank you!
You can do it! Good luck!
I’m a newbie with resin. I am an experienced wood worker, just another medium to work with. I have a few nice slabs to play with.
Your videos are so informative.
Thanks
Thanks Kelly!
Hey there, I’m in the process figuring out how to do this. It’s a gorgeous piece of wood that I got for free. Turning into a beautiful coffee table. I wish I could send a picture of the piece.
Toby, I’m watching all your videos ready for my first practice run on 2ft x 2ft. Practice before I go for the big table👍🏽
WHAT DID I DO WRONG!?
Thank you for your detailed videos. you are truly an inspiration! Inspired, I completed my first pour this past weekend for a C-Table (gotta mix the occasional project in for the wife). I sprayed the melamine mold with smooth-on mold release and wiped it around with a blue paper towel. About 5 minutes later I sprayed it again and moved it back into the garage. I repositioned and lightly clamped the wood down. I mixed my epoxy (2 gallons) and poured (1.25 thick), that was fun! About 55 hours later I started to demold the table (per liquid glass that can be done in 48 hours). It was like I never sprayed the melamine with mold release. I waited another 24 hours and gave up trying to get the bottom sheet off. I chiseled out all the brad nails, and used the planer to remove the entire melamine board. On the bright side the project looks amazing now! What did I do so wrong with the mold release!?
Ryan here… Thanks for showing us your tips and tricks as well as explaining mistakes you’ve had in the past
Thanks Ryan!
Paul: I would love to see a video specifically about your preferred epoxies and epoxies on a little more of a budget.
Would be nice! If I had a cheaper one that worked as well I’d use it though.
David here; i have no question but just love the way you are working👍👍👍
Thanks bud!
“Jeremy” you asked in the end of your video if you thought you should’ve filled the big void, I think It looks amazing. One of my favorite tables yet. Keep me coming, the wife and I are about to embark on making an epoxy table for a dry bar top. Thank you for the instruction so far!! Super helpful.
Love to hear that
@@BlacktailStudio "Jeremy" one more followup question, don't feel like you need to answer should it give away too much info. My wife and I live in Utah and found someone who is selling wood similar to what you use in your videos, big enough for a large table... slightly smaller than a kitchen table length for $200... is that reasonable? this would be for our bar top.
Ric Smith Custom Woodcraft, Hye, Texas I build furniture of Texas native woods, mostly mesquite. I’ve been doing this for twenty plus years. For the short time you’ve been doing this, you’ve done great. I wish I had access to the wonderful wood you have. Keep up the good work!
Rich in New York- just wanted to thank you for these great videos and for always taking the time to answer my questions. I like the epoxy filled void, myself. As a currently unemployed pediatric dentist, I’m very jealous of your attention to detail and the precision of your work. My life is spent drilling the tiny teeth of moving targets. 1 mm can be the difference between a root canal and a filling, so I can really appreciate just how accurate your work is.
Either you’ve got it, or you don’t. And you’ve got it.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for that Rich! Hope you’re back at it soon
@@BlacktailStudio if they keep me out much longer, i may have to try to sell some of my woodworking projects. Sure the epoxy has some air bubbles and the dutchmans have gaps all around them, but hey, ill sell em cheap!
Thanks again for the great content. Ive learned a lot.
I’m happy that I started watching! I’m learning a lot and hopefully my sales will increase!
JON :-) watched the whole video. I haven't begun working with epoxy yet, but I'm excited with seeing great videos like this, thank you. Having that commercial sander is PERFECT! $75 is beyond worth saving LOTTTTTTTTTTTTS of time... & dust.
Adam! Me and my friend Ben just tried our very first 10" by 10" practice table. Made a step by step instruction document from your videos, thank you by the way. We got impatient and poured the epoxy 30 minutes after caulking our mold. 20 minutes go by and we sprung a few leaks. Back to the drawing board! Should have listened to you, but live and learn I guess!
I’ve been there!
I have started using PVC boards for my sides. It has a texture on one surface but if you miter the corners with the texture facing out, you don't have to worry about the texture. It's alittle more handling for the side but it means not having to push a full sheet through the table saw. When you are a shop of 1 or have a small table saw, it makes things much easier
Nice!
Hello from India. Really like your videos. I have started doing diy stuffs for an year or so and have just started to familiarise myself with epoxy resins. I keep coming back to your videos to learn the small tricks, re-watching them so often. Keep up the good work.
Thanks friend!
Thank you for the very thorough explanation. I think I will try a small table now.
Just getting into this. I have made one table for my new home. Had a few frustrating moments. Watched many of you videos and am ready to start another project. Thank you for your help
Thanks dawn
Jake here!! I’m making a mold for a table next week.. This video is exactly what I needed.. love your videos! 👍👍
Boom! Excellent
this table is already incredibly beautiful, cant wait for finished work.
Thanks!
Joshua here. Thank you for this video helpful information when it comes to making a mold
Thanks josh!
Quentin here. Thank you for a very concise and helpful presentation.
My son and I love your vids!! Keep em coming!!!
Thanks Leonard!
David - Thanks for this. I'm new to epoxy and excited to learn. I've only refinished a couple of tables and never had to use a mold. This really helps.
Tammy Duxbury - Love your channel! It has been a huge help in starting this hobby!
My name is Tod and I must say I like the table that you created and I am immensely jealous of the planner that you have access to.
my name is Law
Your video was well done and easy to follow.
Thank you for taking your time.
Thanks Law!
Zona, I stumbled across one of your other videos earlier today and to be honest I don't usually watch the whole video but kinda skip through them. Your videos though! I completely watched it and I subscribed. I've wanted to do a resin table for awhile now, but I am teaching myself all the things I need to know. I'm starting with learning resin and little things, making tons of mistakes, learning along the way. Your videos are entertaining to me, but no nonsense too, and I really appreciate it. (I am looking forward to your 3 hour video of making a table from start to finish!)
I dig the void you have in this. Good job on explaining and getting to the point. Lately I have been getting frustrated with videos where people don't seem to edit and it just drags for not much of a pay off. Your vid was packed with information solidly presented. Thank you.
Thanks man, I try!
Travis here: Thank you for the video. This is my first time watching these videos and specifically yours😬. I enjoy the workmanship and the explicit instruction. And yes I watched until the end lol. Thanks again.
Thanks Travis!
Herb.....do you discuss types and specific epoxies you would suggest for projects?
No questions, just wanted to say thanks for the tips and guidance, keep killing it
Thanks bud!
Carlos I wanna start my wood working journey and epoxy work is something I wanna master 22 now and building up my gear
Terri here, You are the only maker who explained waiting overnight for the caulk to dry!
The rest secretly want you to fail
Great info, my name is Mike. Just getting started on epoxy projects. I look forward to seeing more content.
virgil and you do beautiful work with these tables, anyone would be proud to own one of these works of art, thanks for sharing what you do with the rest of us
Thanks Virgil!
Thanks for this video. It is exactly what I need to know for my old growth redwood root slab desktop project.
David. I don’t do any projects like this myself, but it’s fascinating to watch your creativity and precision. Thank you!
Love to hear that David!
I like the big void. Looks more natural than it would have if you would have tried to put something in there. One of your nicest looking tables so far.
Thanks so much!
Brian: I love your videos. They've been helping me stay sane during this weird time.
Try and hold it together Brian!
Yea great video mate, the possibilities using resin are endless just wish the price came down a little. Still enjoying the interest, just brought a 200amp welder and looking a some black smiths forge
Bob --- Nice, proven technique! Thanks for the videos, Cam.
Amber... I've been planing on a similar project and glad I watched your video. Very informative. Thanks! The table is gorgeous!
Hi. My name is Aqil. I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I really enjoy your video's. I would like to start a hobby and I have been thinking about epoxy tables. Thank you.
James here, I love Ryobi (re the question you asked). Thanks for this, about to try my first project ever, and your tutorials have been incredibly helpful.
Thanks!
Doug. Great videos. Good info well presented. You are very honest. You show the problems or mistakes as well as the good. 👍👍
NICE JOB SIR I APPRECIATE YOUR WORK ...FROM BAGUIO CITY,PHILIPPINES.👌
Something very relaxing about watching you pour the epoxy .
Agreed!
I loved your video getting ready to do a very small table so watching as many videos as I can for tips and do's and don'ts
Very nice!
David here. Fantastic videos. I really liked that slightly translucent table you showed.
Thanks David!
Stay at home mama, thank you sir. I am doing all the research I can so I don’t mess up my coffee bar I am doing this coming September
Pat here. Love your videos. Nicely done. Thanks.
Thanks Pat!
Taryn would like to know if you have a favorite project you have done, whether there is a video or not. One that you look back at and think “oh yeah. That one’s a beauty.” I’ve watched that desk build you did for your wife a few times now. So far it’s my favorite of yours! Thanks for sharing!
I was gonna say, probably my wife’s desk!
This is amazing! Thank you. Also, I took your class at Workbench. It was amazing. You both did a great job. very informative.
It’s Chrissy here, thank you for the guidance, it really is appreciated 😊
Haik: your videos are perfect. Thank you for being quick. I mean, we can always go back and watch again.
That’s how I feel!
Paul here, Cam, love the videos you do. Watch everyday until I've seen them all.
Love that
Hey man, I don’t have any questions but I loved your hacks. Keep up the great work.
Ya man!
Brent here: i enjoy your content so much that I rewatch many of them to make sure I dont miss or forget and critical details. As of now Im looking forward to your video being released on 6/2/22.
Which is gonna make a decent birthday present on 6/4. See? You are helpful in ways you never would consider. So thank you very much & keep it up!
It’s a really cool build actually! Kind of a surprise ending though.
@@BlacktailStudio im sure it will be. I follow Nick's channel as well. I've not been disappointed yet from either of you. So thanks again
Sean, just wanted to say that table is going to be beautiful. must be really nice having the shop with the drum sander/planer thing. wish I did, but I use a 7 inch angle grinder, started this after my router took a crap and died. I've found it works faster and once you get used to it, you can get it pretty close to perfect. even if it's not 100% flat, they usually come out beautiful and when someone sees the table it will usually sell fast. it's wood, I usually use scrap wood, like end cuttings from slab tables or reclaimed wood. not ment to be 100% perfect.
Toby says love the details. Don’t mind the rush, this is pausable and one can slow the playback if needed. Thanks for your time.
Appreciate that!
I'm New to this, so please keep posting....
Finn... really enjoying your videos, thinking of making an wood/epoxy kitchen counter for my camper van I live in full time, thanks to your content!!
Ya man!
Thanks for the video! Wish i had access to a larger than 13" planner lol
I’m LeAnn from Texas, I’ve been interested in this type of wood work for years but haven’t started Bc I want to be sure I know as much as possible before I even attempt. I came across your videos and WOW so informative THANK YOU! There’s so much to learn. I’d love to one day be able to accomplish a dining room table but right now I should start with experimenting small and cheaper trails so that I’m not super devastated when it’s a fail. If you’re up to it - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ! Love your videos! Keep them coming!
Paul. Looks like this will be a very nice looking table. I like the void space in the middle.
Thanks Paul! Me too
