    Hello Grim.
Yeah, it's me again. While playing with 'the group' from 1985 through about 2000 or so, we played several 'naval' engagements. Most were scenarios where often several Merc Companies would be 'hired' to find and secure a drifting hulk of some naval ship for one or more Houses. With 'secret orders' in play, this sometimes lead to the Mercs fighting over who got to claim the ship for it's 'employer'.
In one memorable battle, FIVE companies were engaged by three Houses, a Bandit Kingdom, and a Periphery State, to find and claim a very badly damaged Baron Class Destroyer in an area of the Periphery's outer edges. Each of the Players had 'secret orders' and a 'path' to get to the three star systems that might contain the derelict Warship.
My own Company had three highly modified Locust designs in it's ranks, backed up by a Phoenix Hawk as the Lance Commander. By the use of these fast Mechs, i was able to steal enough data from other Players to get a general idea of the Area of Operations we needed to find. This let me bypass my 'bread crumb' trail of hints and go directly to the general area where the ship was located. Yes, I had to filter through about 9 star systems to find it, but I ended up beating all but one of the other Players to the Baron's location.
That Player and I agreed to take the Warship jointly, and move it to a hidden star system where no other Players, or NPCs could find it. This led to us making a killing on the market by offering the Warship to whichever House could pay the most for it.
The 'Game Master' in charge of running the whole affair was certainly going to 'backstab' us and just have the House take the Warship from us... So, we sold the ship for such a sum that even a two thirds payment was more than enough to pay our expenses and garner a slightly more than 'modest' profit from the deal.
And since the Player Turns were all 'secret' data exchanges between Players and the GM, we were able to send the buyer's reps (and their rather large Mech Force) to an 'empty' system were they would find a beacon that held the actual location's data point.
The House did get the Warship, eventually... But did not have the chance to find and eliminate our Companies as part of the deal. Post Game resolutions by the GM had the other three Players mostly breaking even, with our two Companies making a real profit. Also, we gained serious points with the Mercenary Review Board, and made a life-long Enemy of the Buying House.
Such is the life of the Mercenary Mechwarrior. Oh, and as an added bonus, the other Player and I split the Baron's Cargo... which just happened to have a Lance of Star League Mechs. I gave up the Mackie and Clint, to get my hands on a Grasshopper and a 'mint' Catapult. This split the 'tonnage' evenly, but I ended up with the 'lions share' of the remaining cargo by virtue of a series of Die Rolls.
It seems that my 'opponent' had not heard of my luck with dice (NO! I do NOT use crooked dice!). So, I ended up 'winning' almost 2/3rds of the remaining cargo... which the GM had the only listing of. The GM noted who 'won' which allotment of cargo and made up two lists which we received. Luck was with me, because I ended up with a bit more than half the Mech Spares, and two thirds of the Infantry Supplies. This let me repair and expand my Company quickly, as well as add a couple of Companies of 'foot sloggers' to my Forces.
Most of the other Players didn't do much with Infantry, other than enough to run any vehicles they owned and some for supply purposes. Whereas I went 'whole hog' and had several Anti-Mech Infantry Companies, as well as a decently sized vehicle force. What kept rattling the other Player's cages was, they would see my vehicles 'fleeing' from a city they were trying to take, and just plod into the 'kill boxes' of A-M Infantry I'd hidden in place. Then the vehicles would turn and return to Long Ranges, and shower them with missiles. By the time my Mech Force arrived, their Mechs were 'sandpapered' down to very thin, or NO armor, over most locations. Making them dead easy kills once my Mechs engaged them.
Again, a long posting, for which I am sorry... sort of.
    Speaking, Frank-ly

Always glad to see coverage of the less talked about aspects of BattleTech. The black water navies tend to just be seen as taxis with nothing to add to the story. I would love to read a book from a spacers POV so I can see how they see the ground pounders.

Ironically, they are prime content for me, as there's so many models and variants across aerospace fighters, warships, and vehicles to make dozens of videos.

GrimDark Narrator I appreciate that you cover them. While Mechs are great, it is vehicles that form the lions share of military forces. Also is there any chance you could cover infantry? There are jump, anti-Mech, and battle armor. Bit a content there. Thanks again for the great content. Always enjoy hearing your opinions about topics also.

woot woot WarShips! I may love the Naval aspect of batteletech more than the mechs. Maybe. But it's always been so fleshed out yet never gets the attention it deserves. Either way though, awesome video. Look forward to more warships/aerospace topics.

Oriffel For a game that was designed especially and specifically to put big, stompy mechs into combat, they did do a pretty good job of kinda ret-conning naval combat back into the game.

Can’t land mechs on a planet without transport. The battle taxis are the backbone of the military. Without the fleet, the armies can’t move. Without the armies, the fleet is pointless.

      Kinda paradoxical.

GrimDark Narrator that’s true. But no less apt. Force projection always relies on capital assets. Carriers, battleships, and other ships of the line. They’re your biggest scariest stick. But just like planes and tanks, you can’t take and hold ground without boots on target. Tanks, ships and planes can destroy ground only. Same applies in BT.

The Word of Blake? The last time I heard of them was in the first Mechassault game. I thought that they weren't canon because I lacked knowledge of the lore of Battletech. I honestly thought that it was in-game canon all these years.

In battletech lore, this video was recorded on New Syrtis by a quasi-famous Capellan narrator, and used to give the 4th grade teacher a break during class.

Out of curiosty do you ever plan to cover the Battletech Frigates? It seems like that's the only Battletech Capital ship type I can't find a video of yours on, and my favorite type.

Well I thought I’d missed a video at first with the mention of medium tank, but then I remembered you had mentioned something a while back about changing things up from what you’d already recorded.
You can definitely tell from the artwork that starships were not their forte. Everything looks very similar and there’s not as much creativity compared to the mechs.
But still, I like learning about them.

You could say the same about GW's Naval art style; an Emperor class battleship looks just like a Strike Cruiser, just scaled up more.

@@gregdomenico1891 Imperial Navy warships definitely look very similar to each other. But most of that is also because there's a few base hulls that are employed for multiple variants.

@@GrimDarkNarrator I totally agree on why the ships in 40k all look alike, since every thing is based off of STC's. But, that also gives an easy out to the designers and artists at GW when it comes to providing the models for the Universe, every thing looks the same, not much originality.

Warships need to be reworked in battletech they are just so dull and boring. From their looks to their weapons to using them in combat.

anthony ev Baring multi-dimensional thrust, they are remarkably realistic compared to other Sci-Fi worlds...
Multi-thousand ton warships are far too expensive to just throw away in pitched battle, so they arent used except for last case scenario. Also, flair is expensive and unnecessary, so you are left with rather bland ships that dont do a whole lot. In my opinion, if we were to ever have interstellar warships in the real world... they would likely be similar to these, but built like the ships of The Expanse.
