As a auto mechanic for 30 years and a big Toyota/ Lexus owner. No other auto manufacturer comes close to Toyota/ Lexus vehicles. Reliable and built to last. Not saying they are perfect. But they come very close. Amazing.

Great review of a remarkable vehicle. I have a pristine '08 GX470. @ ~150,000 miles, totally quiet and not a squeak or rattle. Just regular maintenance over its lifetime. Never a breakdown or major component failure. It's an incredibly quiet and refined vehicle. The present GX460 other than the engine and bodywork is about 85% identical to its predecessor GX470 so the platform for the most part is ~20 years old. But it still works! I prefer the GX470 body style though. Can't get used to those swoopy rear quarter panels and door treatment on the newer GX's.
The 470 still wins in the classic looks department but the 460 has a better drivetrain in every way. Both are 500K mile vehicles with simple maintenance.
Visiting U of A in Tucson this week with oldest daughter. Cool to be in the same area as Sarah...thinking about her off-road romps as I drove a rental SUV around Saguaro national park. 😁
Seems to me this is a beast in a 3-piece suit. It has the Lexus name, lots of luxury, but also a robust body-on-frame construction and a V-8. Though that engine seems really mildly tuned, there are 3.5L V-6's that make that much hp, though not quite as much torque. Which tells me you could probably get another 70 or 80 hp out of it without much trouble, and I imagine the bottom end and transmission could take that. Fun review, and maybe we'll see a few more vehicles take on that new hill.
You're a welcome addition to Arizona. I don't say that often. ANYWHO, you cannot find a better overland platform in the U.S. I think you'll be giving yourself the beans when your Ford Bronco breaks down before a Lexus is even broken in. Awesome vehicle, I have a 2016, I put more aggressives and thicc KO2s on 17in rims, and it crushes snow or off-road. Drove it to Moab, beat the crap out of it, then drove it to Yellowstone and back to Colorado, 1000 mile trip and nothing, no squeaks, no troubles with suspension, built like a tank, and was very comfortable cabin compared to a more basic 4 runner. The V8 does get bad mileage and not that powerful, compared to a 4runner it is an improvement, the 4.0 V6 really struggles here in Colorado. And Sarah is right, for off-roading you do need different front bumper, a 2in lift, at minimum off road tires, ideally on 17in rims as and easy upgrade to Crawl Control for $700, just switching out a module and then you're all set, with a torquy V8 it can handle a lot of tough trails. I would never switch out to the Prado look, off road front bumper is all you need. And I take pride that its a Lexus, you cannot get a Prado with a V8 anywhere in the world, even in the Middle East the GX comes as a 400 with a 4.0L V6. I think only in Russia they sold GX460/470s alongside the Prado's. I've driven diesel Prados and they're barely move, that 190hp is not enough to move a vehicle this size. That 2022 updated interior looks so much better then the 2011 interior you get all the way up to 2021 with the 90s Nokia phone infotainment system.
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a very popular vehicle down here in Costa Rica. Three models, with prices from $69,000 to $97,000 USD. The Lexus GX460 is also available at $119,000. Yes, vehicles are very expensive down here.

@Sarah -n- Tuned: Another great review. I love the GX. Need to get one before they destroy it with a turbocharged engine with direct injection. I think the current generation could make it to a million miles if maintained.
Thanks for the review Sarah. I was on the fence on weather or not I need the off road package to take this off-roading. You just saved me some $$$ by not going with Luxury trim and skipping out on the "off-road package"
The cheaper option (what I did) get an older used GX470. Leaving more of a budget for modifications and lots of aftermarket parts out there. I call it the Land Yacht
My 2012 GX460 is at 108,000 miles and drives like new! It gets decent highway mpg - around 19-20 but the city mpg is at best 15-16. The interior is also such high quality that I’m sure it will last as long as the this thing runs. Looking forward to another 100k miles.

Love the shop, but I kind of miss the old abandoned warehouse thingy. Oh, and the saying is, "you can't eat your cake and have it, too." People always misquote it. Basically means if you eat your cake, you no longer have cake. Great video!
You had me at "Biggest sway bar I've every measured" Lmao, another great video. Thanks for all the entertainment and education. You are in a class by yourself Sarah. Damn that truck is a BEAST
that's the magic of the KDSS system. Coke can sized swaybar for a car feel on road... super stiff for a truck... then off road you get full articulation automatically... it really is a fatty of a sway bar
I just can't get used to the massive front grills on this and other cars. It's a current design trend that I don't think works aesthetically. You can make a cool looking front without the grill taking up most of the space.
Hi Sarah, I've been a subscriber since you bought your MR2. Great build by the way, and love your car reviews on both your channels. Hey Sarah, that was awesome the look on your face before attempting the hill you had never climb before 🙂 and absolutely I do the land cruiser conversion so quick matter fact I order it before I got the truck. Really great work🐧🐧🐧👍
I always laugh when people in comment sections are scraping for insults against the GX and bring up the approach angle like it's actually a big weak point. Then we see 11:50, lol - great job proving that out! Of the 3-5% of GX owners who are actually offroading them, only the most extreme owners of that niche demographic would be taking it somewhere for the approach angle to require a bumper cut.
Prado’s are a dime a dozen here in Australia. They’re everywhere, diesels and v6s. They have the nickname “play dough” because they are soft and gooey. Realistically they go hard and we have many, many aftermarket options to toughen them up even more.
I think you should sell ratings stickers on your site: penguins, cookies, meatballs, beans (including e-beans). Of course, you'd need to have all the fractional ones-0.3 bean, for instance-which would complicate things. Seems like they'd be pretty popular.
My 2020 GX 460 is currently sitting in the garage, I’ve only put 350 miles on it. I’m a long haul trucker so it’s going to be a while before I will be able to enjoy this beast. I’d just paid it off three months ago too.

Thanks for the review. Was also considering one of these a couple months ago before finding the FJ I was looking for. Just curious what was running through your head between 11:27-11:32 haha. Thanks for never taking yourself too seriously, it's the best part about your channel.
@Sarah -n- Tuned: Another great review. I love the GX. Need to get one before they destroy it with a turbocharged engine with direct injection. I think the current generation could make it to a million miles if maintained.
Toyota won't let you down with the new turbo setups... the mpgs are the only downside of the GX460
Not only are these things beasts off-road they are one of the most reliable vehicles on the planet
I call it the Land Yacht
you can't go wrong either way... ❤️
My 2012 GX460 is at 108,000 miles and drives like new! It gets decent highway mpg - around 19-20 but the city mpg is at best 15-16. The interior is also such high quality that I’m sure it will last as long as the this thing runs. Looking forward to another 100k miles.
that's awesome!!
Only thing I'd keep an eye out for is the valley plate. If you're losing coolant that's where I'd look at first.
Leather pants, leopard print top - 80's music video rabbit hole here I come
Great video, I am have my GX 460 delivered tomorrow really excited about it, I have learned more in your video than most of the others about my vehicle, thank you!
Another great review and that’s whats I appreciates about you Miss Sarah.
This thing is a beast! Crazy capable.
You always outdo yourself. 👏🏻😎
Love the shop, but I kind of miss the old abandoned warehouse thingy. Oh, and the saying is, "you can't eat your cake and have it, too." People always misquote it. Basically means if you eat your cake, you no longer have cake. Great video!
The Statler Brothers once sang about not being able to have your Kate and Edith, too. I know, it's bigamy to mention this.
@@JayLepisto Nice...
A proper lift kit fixes many approach angle issues, and a little cutting down front makes it unstoppable
Ford's 4.6L 32V modular from 2003-04 Mercury Marauder made 302 ho and 318 lb-ft which is almost identical to the Toyota but without the VVTi.
That’s why I recommended the Prado conversion, it looks 🔥
Agreed!!
or just cut it off like we did... easy to also add a stubby bumper too...
Most funny thing with Lexus is no one is excited about these cars because they lack any gimmick but everyone appreciates how they "just work" 🤣
Great review Sarah ! I Love the enthusiasm you have in all your videos ! Keep up the great work !
Haha, that’s why I always do a one take on hill climbs and breaking/beans tests. It’s not the same otherwise.
Sarah thats a very pretty name and your hair reminds me of hers as well. When we meet I hope its in a ponytail.
You got me at Robot Menudo. Keep up the geat work.
Hi Sarah, I've been a subscriber since you bought your MR2. Great build by the way, and love your car reviews on both your channels. I am and always will be a V8 fan so I hate seeing them starting to fade away. Love your awesome personality and fun attitudes about everything. And your outfit in this video is SMOKING HOTT. You are doing a great job and look forward to all your content.
I had to look it up online. You made me interested in the vehicle. I usually don’t look at the luxury side of vehicles. It’s nice. Like you.
Hey Sarah, that was awesome the look on your face before attempting the hill you had never climb before 🙂 and absolutely I do the land cruiser conversion so quick matter fact I order it before I got the truck. Really great work🐧🐧🐧👍
It’s so crazy that these hills don’t even look steep on video, in person they’re insane. I couldn’t have walked up that big one, ask me how I know 😆
@@SarahnTuned52 minutes and no one has asked. All right Sarah I'll give it a go, how do you know?😎
I always laugh when people in comment sections are scraping for insults against the GX and bring up the approach angle like it's actually a big weak point. Then we see 11:50, lol - great job proving that out! Of the 3-5% of GX owners who are actually offroading them, only the most extreme owners of that niche demographic would be taking it somewhere for the approach angle to require a bumper cut.
This makes me want another Toyota truck. Loved 'em when I had 'em. Miss them now that they're gone.
I have a 2007 GX 470 with 98,000 miles it’s a great SUV!
".... from hurricane Stupid..." Hahahaha! Sarah gold right there. Great review. All the best, Rob in Switzerland
Prado’s are a dime a dozen here in Australia. They’re everywhere, diesels and v6s. They have the nickname “play dough” because they are soft and gooey.
Realistically they go hard and we have many, many aftermarket options to toughen them up even more.
Well you’d know of course most of us wouldn’t go inland in anything else than a Toyota of course. Unthinkable to do it in a Land Rover….
you ain't got no V8 prado in Oz...
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD no you’re 100% correct- but we’ve got the new land-cruiser- 😂
@@BillWoodillustrator lolz ours is called the Lexus LX600 😆 😃!! 🇺🇸 #1
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD they also have diesel V8 Land cruiser
11:24 Sarah uploading next level challenge program...
I think you should sell ratings stickers on your site: penguins, cookies, meatballs, beans (including e-beans). Of course, you'd need to have all the fractional ones-0.3 bean, for instance-which would complicate things. Seems like they'd be pretty popular.
I have a 2015 with a few simple mods. It’s a beast.
Hi Sarah, loving today’s outfit…Great review of the Lexus not sure about the longer stroke !!!! Luvs ya.
😍😍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
My 2020 GX 460 is currently sitting in the garage, I’ve only put 350 miles on it. I’m a long haul trucker so it’s going to be a while before I will be able to enjoy this beast. I’d just paid it off three months ago too.
Awesome video Sarah! Go LEXUS!
I love these videos. It's like I'm playing a video game and I'm collecting coins All these chimes and stuff. It's funny.
Great review Sarah. Only draw back for me is MPG, I understand it's a BIG CAR/SUV. Can't afford driving when gas keep on going up above $5 per gallon.
Sarah your so funny, your car reviews are the best out there by a mile 🙏🙏
12:30 min - Sarah almost always gets to the top! 💪
I've had mine since 2016 and I fking love it. The air suspension is really nice though. You missed out.
Requires premium fuel which is not available in some places, especially in remote areas.
You do a great demo as always, Love the music background , love your sense of humor ❤️❤️❤️
Love your eyes when that hill climb went sideways!
Up you went!
I love you Sarah! Keep up the excellent work and magnificent content.
Just bought a used 22 with 20k miles so happy 😊
How much did you pay for that? I’m in the market.
@@HeftyJsame here
This platform is fire -FJ, T4R, the GX, and LC Prado. Too bad we can't have all the flavors here in the US.. something with a manual would be nice, but idk if we'll ever see that stateside.
ya but off-roading in a manual is never fun
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD Sometimes, no, but I learned to drive on a 60s Jeep without brakes, so my POV might be a bit biased lol
Very impressed with its ability to billy goat with seemingly no effort. Now that you’ve found a hill even more challenging than Mt. Sarah, we need to come up with a name for it. Hmmm… 🤔 Great review…Thanks! 👍👍👍
Maybe name it after it's first challenger...The GX Hill :)
I’m surprised the brake disks aren’t larger given it’s potential GVW. Nice to see some American parts too, like the transmission. Lexus hi-tec all the way. Don’t like the front end styling but I’m sure it’s all well made. Very competent hill climber!👍🏽
the transmission is Aisin... bulletproof japanese transmission
I thought I heard Allison in regards to the transmission 🙄
Why would you out a piece of shit American transmission on this japanese master piece?
@@paulschmolke188 Lol... no "Aisin"... they've supplied toyota transmissions since the beginning. Probably the ONLY automatic transmissions that are truly "bullet proof"...
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD I’m smarter now…thanks. Indeed there nothing fragile about Toyota power trains.
Sarah, you made my day again! You are sooo funny (and beautiful)! You are the best car reviewer ever!
You know Your stuff,Sarah! Great review of a nice vehicle.
So much to say about this review, but i’ll hold back the novel …would love to share my off road / overlanding knowledge but will just say well done …and you will probably have one as a project vehicle one day …really is an auto enthusiast must on the check list to polk around in something from the LandCruiser Badge extended family …it is the only Badge to successfully bandy about all the world continents thus far … and they are a must have for your future film crew!! 🤳🏽
Although I would not have use for this type of vehicle, I had to Watch Sarah -N- Tune to spruce up the morning!!. Great Throrough Review as usual. Loved the "Hurricane Stupid" comment in Arizona. You articulate the various points that you make very well, and include some "sexual" innuendo, typical of Sarah. Notwithstanding the Vehicle review, watching the Sarah Fashion Show in each of these videos, helps to make the day. Is it No Wonder why there are so many Male Viewers. It's like watching a Young Cher and Sandra Bullock doing exhaustive Car Reviews.
Love your review especially the "Under the Vehicle". you are amazing!!! keep doing the video reviews!!!
I watched this, and bought one. Now I've watched it 4 times. :)
Wow it was amazing that off road section! Build strong in Japan! Beautiful video I just love it!
Sara on the wild side. Be afraid be very afraid. You go girl
How to make Sarah happy:
Hood struts and paint.
Ok, throw a V8 in there as well.
