    On the photo of the Kilim jacket: Is this not Kate Moss?! 😳 She must be very young then... I also LOVE the Holly Sweater and already bought yarn to cast it on this in the next few weeks.😍

    Thanks for sharing, it is Kate Moss, good eye who saw that, I really like that jacket, I just gave two Kaffe Fasset vintage books to our weavers guild, I am going to double check them, I don’t think that pattern is in them ,will see if they are 93. I love the Astrid,and the Vair, I bought the book, I will try that first. I want to make it in the colours of the black one, love it so much, it is a dream knit, one day, I am going to attempt my first colourwork sweater it’s from the Knitting Kalevala book, the one on the cover, I want to knit most patterns in that book. Take care from a B.C, Melissa.

    Hello from a fellow Canadian 🤗 I adore colourwork so thank-you very much for walking us through some of the beautiful patterns that have caught your eye 🤗 I especially appreciated seeing many new-to-me patterns. Now you've given me the urge to dig out all my wonderful Kaffe Fasset books I picked up at a local second-hand store to have a flip-through! Thank-you for the inspiration and I'm very much looking forward to seeing which pattern(s) you end up casting on 😍 Happy Making 💕

    As others have said there is a traditional Estonian technique called Roosimine where the strands are carried on the outside of the fabric. If you want to check out a modern interpretation of this technique have a look at Aleks Byrd's patterns. She is a wonderful teacher too. I did a class with her back in February 2020 and it was really interesting.

    Omg this is my first time seeing this design from Kaffe Fasset and I am shocked because I think it may have been inspired by the ethnic designs of my people in Eastern Europe- we make blankets and tapestries called ‘piroski kilim’ that have that same texture! Must research more but thank you for introducing me to this beautiful pattern!

    • @karliepaige8269
      @karliepaige8269  10 місяців тому

    I've been knitting the Hana sweater by Junko Okamoto and it's been one of the most fun knits I've ever done. Not colorwork, but a really fun cable sampler and very interesting construction!

    I think the technique in the bouquet sweater is called “ladderback jacquard” (i think???)
    Maggie from Sonder knits on youtube made one a year or so back and talks extensively about the technique. Also a great knitting youtuber I highly recommend! ♥️♥️

    I have wanted to do a Marie Wallin pattern. I live in coastal NC and we have very little weather cold enough for an all over colorwork sweater. I am seriously planning (have the Jamison and Smith yarn) to knit Skerries mitts. I consider it a good introduction to a Wallin pattern.

    • @karliepaige8269
      @karliepaige8269  10 місяців тому

      I would love to do a Marie wallin pattern soon as well! A small colourwork project is a great idea then since you don’t get that cold weather ☺️
      Happy knitting!

    I don't know if the technique in the first Junko sweater is exactly this but there is Roositud... "is an Estonian inlay technique in which a contrasting color is wrapped between the stitches as you knit". I'm planning to make Junko's Taro sweater, going to Iceland in November so hoping to buy lopi yarn for it.
    So exciting that you are going to go for the Kilim, that's totally a grail! I imagine the original yarns might be discontinued so people have to figure out their own modern ways. BTW if you go on the Internet Archive and go to 'borrowing books' you can find many Rowan and Kaffe books there, so you could have a look ahead at your pattern (as well as many others). But it will still be nice to have a hard copy, I have so many Kaffe books!
    I have a vintage Kaffe Spanish Combs kit that I got on etsy and I've knitted one side TWICE (first time because I had horrible loose row gauge being so inexperienced that the sweater would be insanely long on me) but I need to continue on with the project some time. Actually the 2nd time I modified the shape to a cocoon cardigan because I don't want the baggy huge 80s drop shoulder shape so that's what has halted me proceeding with the fronts since it will take more work to figure out how I'm going to place the motifs.

    • @karliepaige8269
      @karliepaige8269  10 місяців тому +1

      Oh thank you! That’s so exciting you’re going to Iceland and can buy some yarn for your tarp sweater!
      It is exciting to start the kilim but I’m thinking it will take me a very long time haha! I will check out “borrowing books” thanks for letting me know about that!
      That’s really cool you have a vintage Kaffe kit! Good luck with continuing with that project, it will be worth it I’m sure! ☺️💕☺️
