That’s what I did. I’m a Filipino American but, spent more time in the states of Tucson Arizona. I retired last may 29 2024 and I owned a house and collecting social at 62. It’s just a little adjustment on my side. Great video👌

Thank you for being honest unlike most expats that are making videos just to show off their house and all that. Ang mga expat na may channel all their showing are the places that they have been and their house that they have. Stay honest with your self guys.

I am 61 and on SSDI , I looked into moving overseas and it said that you couldn’t live outside of the USA for more than 6 months out of the year and still be eligible for SSDI. Also you can switch to regular SS at 62 but will get a decrease for collecting early. You can stay on SSDI until you are 67 have to live in the USA for more than 6 months a year and get the same amount of benefits with SS

That's not true social security knows where I am and you can live more than 6 months outside of the country. Now if you live more than 6 months outside it could affect your medical benefits with the supplemental insurance for your Medicare. But they cannot tell you about living outside. The other issue you face is if you have to have a medical review. I've been living abroad for 4 years but every individual case could make a difference and what country you live in.

Great video Heidi! You and George are doing very well and that’s wonderful. I have a Filipino friend who works long long hours on a delivery truck. He often has to sleep on the truck when it’s far from his boarding house. The hours and physical lifting are insane. Sometimes the truck will break down and they might be stranded there for up to two days and have to buy their own food and water and sleep in the truck. They are not paid for this stranded/downtime.
    He told me this:
“I make 2880 a week. ($49.35 US). Sometimes I don’t have budget for myself because I send for my daughter. I cry all the time.”
The dollar is enormously strong in the Philippines. I believe everything you say about the possibilities there for expats.
I know you have addressed this before, but I would still be interested in a video that compares your experience in Mexico versus the Philippines.

Yes, Delivery is rough and low paying job. We do usually tip each time.

@ it’s worse that home delivery. He delivers from a warehouse to companies so he gets no tips. By the grace of god…

Very interesting conversation and thank you 😊. Considering return and retire in the Philippines 🇵🇭 😊 is basically about finances. Your structured monthly Social Security retirement budget would go farther in the Philippines 🇵🇭 as well as many countries overseas. You and your husband are the example of realism. It helps people like me now age (62). I am glad I 😊 was stationed at Clark Air Base Philippines 🇵🇭 back in 1991 at the age of (28). So understanding the culture of the Philippines 🇵🇭 I am familiar with. Thank you for helping us.

So if a retired person that gets a pension and social security, how does filing taxes work? Personally I’ve got a nice chunk of savings plus between my SS and pension I’m getting around $2500. A month if I was to move there what do ya do about taxes? It seems confusing.

    • @JoyRockk

As a US citizen of course you will still FILE your taxes in States. I'll assume you're asking that question IF for instance you are living here in the Philippines. The answer is NO. Not unless you have a business or earning some money from here. Yes, you will. In addition. if you own a house and lot, in most cases the expat is married to a Pinay, since the property is in her name, Sure, She MUST. If you own a Condo, yes you are oblige to pay proportionate taxes. If you come over here, If I were you LEAVE YOUR US BANK ACCOUNT. As an Expat He/She CAN open a Bank Account in the Philippines. He/She must provide a required documents and of course you have the proper visa. I am a dual citizen. So when I came here 6 months ago, all I need is to provide a copy of my certificate that I am a dual citizen and a Regular Address. That is why within a month, My husband and I rented a house. (you can rent a condo a house) So, I can open a Bank Account here. They are going to also ask you for your address and they might ask a proof. (meaning your landlord and your signature in the document notifying that you are renting that place.) It's best if you get a local number also.

I was suppose to only visit the Philippines. I'll never forget it. The second time I came to the Philippines my plane ticket was only for 3 months. But my the airline canceled my departing flight and gave me refund, so I stayed for 3 yrs. 😅 I met my Filipina like within 2 weeks being there. That was 2017, and I will be back next month to see her. Do I love the Philippines? Not really. But I love her. This is my confession.

I like your shorter videos like this one. Those long stream videos are too much for me. Anyways good videos. I do disagree with the start of this video stating you either love it here or hate it. That is not true with me. Some things I like and some I don't . Pros and Cons. It is not a Love or Hate thing for me and probably others as well.
