Yeah unfortunately the man whom the fans had loved for years; the chill and generally classy country-boy who manhandled opponents in the Octagon turned out was a bit of a bible thumping asshole.
Recently rewatched his season of TUF and damn. When his team lost and he’d essentially verbally and physically abuse them afterwards?! That was difficult to watch.
I was fortunate enough to be there in person to see one of the last dominating performances and title defense by BJ Penn when he beat Diego Sanchez badly. I've been to many events and seen countless greats fight live but I can honestly say that I've never experienced a fighter entrance like BJ Penn. When that Hawaiian music hits the crowd goes nuts and you know you are witnessing a special fighter.
Tony Ferguson has been my biggest Inspiration since his fight against Pettis, had a knee surgery and fought after just 4-6 weeks and in the very first moment Pettis tried to smash that knee and Tony blood all over his face as usual still made Pettis Quit his corner had to call it off in the 2nd round I think Pettis broke his wrist or something but yeah...I was very weak and feeble ppl called me a hangar and struggled to have confidence to go to the gym but I went on Monday ever since thanks to Tony, God bless him and have become Strong now and just want to see him go out on a Win he deserve it 🙏
I feel like a lot of us knew after the Gaethje fight he was done. For me his fight with Charles solidified that he was never going to make a full recovery out of getting another win. The division at both LW and WW is too stacked and moving too fast for him to ever get another W. I think even guys like Miller or Guida will give Tony problems.
I feel like you could put 100 fighters on the list... I think rather what this list is alluding to is the fighters that had the dream to become GOATS but couldn't because of aging? IDK but that's what it seems to me.
I think it was the second Weidman fight. The first you could argue that it was a fluke win; Silva was screwing around and got caught. Seeing him break his leg like that in the second bout convinced me it was over. That kind of leg break is tough for anyone to come back from but it becomes even more difficult when you're in your late 30s.
@@BiggieTrismegistus You have to give Weidman credit though because he was winning both fights against Silva before they ended. It wasn't like Silva was having his way and then he got unlucky, Weidman was putting it on him especially in the rematch when he almost KO'd Silva again albeit in the first round.
@@BiggieTrismegistus I recall this moment perfectly because me and my high-school buddies thought Silva was invincible. We all said "yeah that first fight was a fluke" etc. But after that second fight I just remember the collective soul crushing
I hope Tony spreads his wings and rides off into the sunset soon, he's done his fair share and more in the sport. That 12 fight win streak was legendary, he CRUSHED Pettis
Jacaré Souza vs. Jack Hermansson was one of the clearest examples of this. The aging grappler-turned-puncher against what should've been a stylistic layup, and he somehow couldn't win. The end of one of middleweight's most intimidating figures.
I can't wait for the update videos. "When everyone thought Tony was done" "when we knew Tony was going to win the belt" "times Tony killed men in the octagon"
Tony suffered the perfect storm of mistakes/circumstances. The guy cut weight twice in a VERY short amount of time and it really took it out of him. He was slow, his timing was off...he didn't look anything like he had always been. He then took a career destroying amount of damage from Justin.....it was absolutely brutal. That was it for him....he tried to shake it off and pretend it didn't happen and rushed back too early and has just sustained more damage. That last fight with Nate was humiliating....Tony looked terrified of getting hit, he was terrified to engage.....and that just isn't Tony.
Fuck man I know, I wish more than anything that he just played the businessman and waited for Khabib. Just once don't be the samurai, play it safe, and defy destiny and it's plan to stop that fight. But he's Tony. He lived up to his crazy energy. Fuck man he could have lost against Khabib but who cares, that's the fight we all wanted. I still think his style would have been Khabib's biggest challenge too
I love how Forrest testing positive for Xanax is mentioned in the same way as someone testing positive for PEDs. Having an anxiety problem is not something you need to rebuild your reputation from.
You can literally hear how much the narrator doesn’t want to talk about Tony’s decline. And I understand completely. I love Tony. And he was incredible. Always seemed to find a way to win. It’s so shit to see how it is now
Matt Hughes fought Gracie during his second title run. I remember that fight streak when Matt Hughes was thought to be the Pound for Pound best in the world. He beat Frank Trigg 2(first fight to be introduced into the Hall of Fame), crushed Gracie, and then beat BJ Penn. He seemed unbeatable at the time.
Of all the champions I think BJ Penn has fallen the furthest. From being considered one of the best in the world in a weight class to getting knocked out by some fat guy in front of a bar. That was like gut wrenching to watch.
Tony’s 26-8 is pretty good all things considered and his fight with Diaz was a bit suspicious imo but I guess the issue is that he’s age 38 now and probably won’t be scheduled for another fight till next year…
For me when Carlos condits knee went out against woodley that was a tough one 😪 just knew he wouldn’t be the same after that. the wars with Diaz , GSP, Hendricks then Lawler just finally caught up with him
God I wish I was around for Tony's run I became a fan a few months before his fight against Dariush and I learned he was from Michigan and that he was a big 10th planet guy after I started training we have a photo of him in the locker room holding up the belt after his win over Kevin Lee in 2017 for the interim title guy is so inspirational but I hate to see what's happening to him
Can't judge Tony off the Nate fight, iMO because he only accepted the Li fight on 3 weeks notice. So no matter who the opponent was, he wasn't going to look that great, especially just 4 months after being knocked out. Tony's biggest problem has always been himself. He takes fights he doesn't have to. He was the rightful #1 contender for the undisputed title shot, and instead of waiting, he takes on Pettis, Cowboy and Gaethje. Smh
@@madgavin7568 I think he's just stubborn and doesn't listen to other people. He recently started training with Jackson-Wink and they told him not to fight so soon, yet he did it anyway.
For me, Tony's end was vs Olivera... For Gaethje i thought it was the double weight cut, he will come back, but seeing him getting dominated by Olivera... Yeah thats when I knew he is gone...
The fact he took so much damage in the Gaethje fight led me to believe he will not comeback the same. Especially since he didn't give his brain nearly enough time to recover by the time he returned to action against Oliveira. He should have waited a full year before returning at least.
@@madgavin7568 absolutely. Tony's rushing himself to comeback was actually his downfall, he's known for taking fights on short noticed after taking massive shots but mf still tried to pull something out of his pocket. respect to Tony, but I just can't imagine going out there immediately after such a beatdown. that's the exact reason why Holloway and Diaz kept their fortitude throughout their careers because everytime they're getting battered badly, they are taking a long break.
Honestly. Look at boxing. People love to hate on Garcia, but not only did he make millions, basically ended on a solid note and now have tons of opportunities to go into other things, but he can happily look away knowing he’s in a way better position when he first started. Legacy is great and all, but a lot of these fighters mainly want to provide for their family and/or have the freedom to branch out once the hunger isn’t there anymore.
I've never even set foot in he professional arena/ring and I knew it was too late for me. No money or any backing/help at all in my 20's and only recently got a job opportunity in my 30's, I'll probably just pass that dream to the next generation.

I don't think he was the same after the Macdonald and Condit fights either. People might put it down to the knee injury and Woodley knockout, but those 5-round wars + age will wear down a dude.
@@alugificator that was Lawler's deal.
Every time he stepped into the ring, it was gonna be a dog fight. You can only do a few of those before your body gives out.
See the second match with Rory, where he won with the busted lip.
To all people who thinks that GSP supposed to lose against Johny Hendricks, remember that he refused to do a drug test compared to GSP so still props to him. He bravely fought someone juiced up as he was accustomed to.
GSP ended his career on a high. Whereas Hendricks just faded away.
Hendricks deflated as soon as USADA came around.
GSP was likely juiced as well, but he got away with it so he gets all the benefit of the doubt.
@@madgavin7568 GSP juiced up ? That's why all his tests were negative yeah... Don't say me that everybody is on steroids cuz the guy who said this was also too.
@@strongstateofmind5420 Such a stupid argument. Usman's tests all came back negative, despite the fact he's sus as hell. As well as Costa's mind you and finally Hendricks, all of his tests came back negative. Fighters have found and know ways around testing, your argument is invalid.
To not even consider the possibility that GSP was on the juice is pure naivety bordering on fanboyism on your end.
“Number 1: Tony Ferguson”
Fans: 😢
Tony's fall is one of the saddest stories in MMA. Still breaks my heart
BRO THIS VID IS SOO GOOD! Made me remember all these great fighters
Mf he just posted this 💀
bro rlly flexing the log
Time flys my guy....been watching MMA for 20+yrs, it's sad to see the Greats go downhill
great video (as always) but I can't smash the like button because ya'll made me cry 😢
Great freaking video! much respect for all the fighting legends of the video, and also to all those who are not on it. Thank you for all the great moments u gave us legends
I will never forget that fight between Tony and Justin.. honestly I didnt know it was his decline until he fought Charles and got dominated, thats when I knew. To say I was bummed that Tony never fought Khabib is an understatement and im sure most of us El Cucuy fans will agree. Still, that man deserves all of the respect in the world. He fought anyone, whenever. He wouldnt sit there and wait for Khabib because he believed in himself and for that he is a legend. Love you Tony, 805 forever dogg
Good he didn't fight Khabib because his career would have ended there before Justin
@@m.r.a7992 nah it needed to happen one way or the other
The spirit of Tony Ferguson never dies. Champ shit only forever!
Seeing Robbie on here breaks my heart and the reason I fell in love with mma seeing him lose to nick diaz than go on a tear to eventualyl come back to the ufc and get the belt was awesome and the amount of cte he has is probably unheard of it just sucks this is a reality of the sport we love.
His ascension was EPIC for me too. And his fights?! Jesus Christ. The absolute fucking WARS he went through? Dude is a living Slayer soundtrack.
“Time waits for no man, not even a boogeyman”
Naw you cant fucking do this to me😭😭😭😭😭😭
🎯🎯🎯 Incredible closing words B!!!
Don't think any other statement coulda been better 🔥🔥🔥
When Tony faced Justin was when I truly felt like it was the beginning of the end for him. I could only imagine how demoralizing that loss was for him. It was really hard to watch. Sorta made me bitter towards Justin because he could’ve finished the fight multiple times but chose to keep it standing and just continued to dismantle an already battered Tony in front of the world. Insane amount of heart Tony has. Thanks for all the classics champ #CSO
I still have a hard time believing that someone that looked like Mark Ker can have anxiety attacks before a fight. Guy looked like a god walking amongst mortals
It's insane how f'ing human some humans are. One of the most successful guys I know in my field is one of the most liked guys I know, hilarious, nice, beautiful wife, new baby, and killed himself. Like Jesus Christ. THAT dude? Wtf does that mean for the rest of us?
World is a crazy place.
Funny how we as mma fans can love violence, KO's and all out war. But no real mma fan can get through this without shedding a tear 😭😭😭
The end on Matt Huges was when everyone got to find out what kind of dude he was during TUF.
What happened on TUF?
Yeah unfortunately the man whom the fans had loved for years; the chill and generally classy country-boy who manhandled opponents in the Octagon turned out was a bit of a bible thumping asshole.
@@BiggieTrismegistus Matt might think he’s Jesus.
@@iancarrey4123 knocks to the brain could do that to a guy
Recently rewatched his season of TUF and damn. When his team lost and he’d essentially verbally and physically abuse them afterwards?! That was difficult to watch.
I was fortunate enough to be there in person to see one of the last dominating performances and title defense by BJ Penn when he beat Diego Sanchez badly. I've been to many events and seen countless greats fight live but I can honestly say that I've never experienced a fighter entrance like BJ Penn. When that Hawaiian music hits the crowd goes nuts and you know you are witnessing a special fighter.
How is this channel not at 1M subs yet? Ridiculous!
Tony Ferguson has been my biggest Inspiration since his fight against Pettis, had a knee surgery and fought after just 4-6 weeks and in the very first moment Pettis tried to smash that knee and Tony blood all over his face as usual still made Pettis Quit his corner had to call it off in the 2nd round I think Pettis broke his wrist or something but yeah...I was very weak and feeble ppl called me a hangar and struggled to have confidence to go to the gym but I went on Monday ever since thanks to Tony, God bless him and have become Strong now and just want to see him go out on a Win he deserve it 🙏
That was a very fair analysis and a fantastic video overall. Well done sir!
The Kerr-Fujita fight was brutallity at its finest. Fujita was no slouch.
Nice, I was feeling a little too happy today. Thanks for this timely upload
Tony deserves all the respect of the killer he was at his peak. All the same, he ain't out there like he used to be...
Anderson Silva should have been on this list, with one or both of the weidman fights being when we knew the dream was over for him.
I think I was still holding out hope for Anderson until the Cannonier fight but, yeah, he should have been here.
There will never be another El Cucuy .. legend 🐐
Great video as always really enjoyed it
I can't wait for the update videos.

@@jamestoney6599 maybe it would be acceptable after the chandler fight. But dude just lost to fucking Nate Diaz
When Chuck Liddell lost to Keith Jardine i knew....
Tim Boetsch was actually a legit longtime top ten middleweight who had faced plenty of world class competition.
It scares me that Tony sounded so confident after the Nate fight
I still think his style would have been Khabib's biggest challenge too
Conor when he verbally attacked Poiriers wife in the ring and threatened to shoot the family
guys with muslim names couldn't stfu about Conor, not even for a minute nevermind for a long time.
People forget how big that Brian stann win was for wandy. Brian was considered a serious contender back in the day
I love how Forrest testing positive for Xanax is mentioned in the same way as someone testing positive for PEDs. Having an anxiety problem is not something you need to rebuild your reputation from.
Till this day, the most legendary creature in the history of MMA is : 5th round Lawler.
The second one is : Father's plan Makhachev.
great music, quality content as always!
Watching cowboy lose was rough for me. One of my all time favorite fighters
Hearing you call GSP the GOAT put a smile on my face.
Rashad Evans is my favourite 145 pound title challenger
That’s the same thing I thought but then I also thought maybe he was saying ufc 145 and they accidentally left out the other word
I appreciate this channels input
Hold on I'm crying Bayliun 😭😂
You can literally hear how much the narrator doesn’t want to talk about Tony’s decline. And I understand completely. I love Tony. And he was incredible. Always seemed to find a way to win. It’s so shit to see how it is now
2:04 Didn't expect the Paddy Pimblett cameo. Good one!
Griffin is a legend and a true "Rocky" figure. I actually bought and read his book and was blown away by how funny and intelligent he is.
Tony the type of guy to break my heart😔
Of all the champions I think BJ Penn has fallen the furthest. From being considered one of the best in the world in a weight class to getting knocked out by some fat guy in front of a bar. That was like gut wrenching to watch.
Tony 😭😭
Tony’s 26-8 is pretty good all things considered and his fight with Diaz was a bit suspicious imo but I guess the issue is that he’s age 38 now and probably won’t be scheduled for another fight till next year…
With the music in the background, the tony part made me tear up
Mark Kerr was a sad one: he looked invincible, like Worldwide P4P #1, then he was just gone.
For me when Carlos condits knee went out against woodley that was a tough one 😪 just knew he wouldn’t be the same after that. the wars with Diaz , GSP, Hendricks then Lawler just finally caught up with him
My goodness this is the most depressing vid in history 🥺😭
Brutal man... just brutal.
Soundtrack’s always fire 👌
So this is a try not to cry challenge!
I was at a party this weekend and heart someone play Ben’s music lol
Smh
One of the worst managed careers in UFC history. From 2017 onwards after he won the interim title he was constantly shooting himself in the foot.
@@madgavin7568 I think he's just stubborn and doesn't listen to other people. He recently started training with Jackson-Wink and they told him not to fight so soon, yet he did it anyway.
@@theDavidChannel1 Stubborn and stupid, a dangerous combination.
@@madgavin7568 true.. i mean at the time I wss thinking, its Tony, the dude is unkillable, like fucking zombie.. but I was wrong:/ forever a legend
Tony’s the type of guy to break our hearts just to condition our emotional fortitude.
I think a lot of indicators and fights that showed how much these fighters were slowing down were left out but good vid!
I didn’t wake up expecting to cry today
Man Bayliun actually captured a great melancholy feeling for this one and Luke's editing was on point for it as well. :'(
Sad to see the fighters keep fighting for the money, or the contract. UFC really has the best fights but the worst contracts.
Damn B you sure are virtuous as you are smart, good take
Tony’s career leaves an empty hole in my heart. I hate that , the khabib fight never happened. Tony was such a beast. Loved watching his fights
I remember when chuck got flatlined by Rashad...scary and downright vicous. It was the end for his chin at that point
Tony fighting in 4 months after getting brutally knocked out by Chandler is the testament to how crazy and passionate he is about fighting.
If we keep things in perspective these fighters had the opportunity to live the dream and make it professionally.
Johnny's reign came and left so fast it was pretty crazy. I almost forgot that Leben finished Wandy. Cool video but sad.
I've never even set foot in he professional arena/ring and I knew it was too late for me. No money or any backing/help at all in my 20's and only recently got a job opportunity in my 30's, I'll probably just pass that dream to the next generation.
