      great video. For anyone not getting the key combos to work.. like CTRL+T and SHIFT+S.. activate the node wrangler add on. It comes with Blender.

    Very cool and not difficult. This will be a big help, and I believe you can add in image textures as well for the gobo effect!

    By turning the spread to 1 degree you are essentially creating an almost-sun lamp. Unlike other light sources, because the sun is so far away, the light rays that reach us are parallel, meaning the size of a shadow does not change with distance from the object casting it.

    IES textures can also be really handy. They seem to only work on point lights, at least in my experience. There are plenty available online for free.

    Connect the “object” in the “texture coordinate” to the “vector” in the “mapping”.
    He forgot to add this step in the video

    Gobo =. Goes Over/Behind Object, it's also known in the states as a cookie, which is short for Cucaloris. I work on set alongside the lighting team.

    cool tip! For some reason my noise texture is not showing... but did follow all the steps...any idea what I could be missing?
    EDIT:Connecting the Texture Coordinate node with the Mapping node through "Object" socket fixed the issue.

    a lifesaver. just followed some redshift tutorials for C4D, making me wish I could do the same for Blender. I knew i could add textures to light sources, but changing the spread to 1degree- that was the missing piece. Thanks so much!

    i dont understand, i do exactly the same as you do and it dosent work, i can't even see the effect of the noise texture no matter how much i switch it up

    Protip, the gain on your microhpone is super high which is why it sounds like that. If you're using an audiobox, turn down the mic sensitivity and boost the volume in post

      @@Smeaf I'm not 100% certain that is the issue, but it seems like it to me. If you have a USB mic, you probably can't fix it like that. But if your mic is connected to an audiobox via a weird round connector and the audiobox is plugged into your PC via USB, then you should be able to turn it down no problem.

    Rule no1: Dont talk about fight club.
    Rule no2: ALWAYS show the end result FULL FRAME and leave it there a couple seconds.

    A question: Instead of the noise texture if I use the Image texture and select a png file of leaves will that give me shadows of the leaves?

    If your light didn't changed at all, remember you have to use AREA LIGHT instead of spot light...

    A good way to remember GOBO is "goes before optics"... Helpful in theatre lighting!

      Make sure you have clicked on the principled bsdf shader and it should work :)

    Any clue as to why this light shines straight through my blinds object without the blinds adding any additional shadow?

      Check in the object properties that it is setup properly to have shadows. It may also not be correctly in front of the light source

    Is this possible to achieve with Octane and C4D?

      Absolutely, I'm not familiar with C4D's UI, however, the same principle applies.
      You may just need to use an actual GOBO by placing a plane with an interesting pattern in front of your light source. Just make sure it has an alpha channel so the light can pierce through the GOBO holes!

      Just using basic texture mapping :)
      Just means you have to make the texture manually or get it online and slap it on the keys
