IES lights are engineering modelled light data and available from light manufacturers such as Philips, or OSRAM etc... also you can use the blend with the spot light to create a softer blend across the light falloff
Thanks for your tutorials, I love your channel😄Actually I am a professional photographer who started to learn Blender a few years ago, and I was alway feeling the lack of good lighting tutorials from most of UA-cam Blender tutorial channels. I am really glad that you take the lighting very seriously at the professional photographer level. Please keep up! By the way, you've showed us that you used 2 Area Lights in the 5th example. I haven't tested that scenario in Blender yet, but if I do the actual photo shooting to replicate the scene, I would use only one super narrow and long soft box instead of 2, so if I do it in Blender I will start from the super narrow and super long Area Light (long side is Y axis) as the main light. At least only one light is used apparently in the original image you tried to replicate. Oh, another thing. In the first example, you called the main light "Ambient Light", but we photographers tend to call it "Key Light", and "Ambient Light' is more like the light from HDRI. Anyway, thanks for sharing your wisdom!
For people interested in IES light files you should also look into CRI values for lighting. CRI stands for colour rendering index and represents true colour values in light. Colour temperature is also important.
thanks for the tut and insights! tip: you can drag the yellow dot of the spotlight and the light will automatically rotate towards it! is faster than rotating it with double R
Good stuff! Just wanted to let you know I see your materials EVERYWHERE these days. I've been doing some feedback sessions fixing up scenes and they're pretty popular.
Dude, you won't believe it but I was intending to try and learn more on lighting, and I opened YT, I see your video literally first on my feeds. Thank you very much, like always, clean, super straightforward, and smooth. Love your videos, learned A HECK LOT, and still am from your channel.
Great video thanks. I think the IES needs more explanation that it is actually a lighting profile file, typically from real world light fixtures and manufacturers rather than " a light" Most light fixture manufacturers have an IES file available on their website along side the other technical data. Very useful if your designing an interior where lighting plays a key role
Great video, thank you :) Depending on the scenes colors, I'd desaturate or change the hue of the nishita sky texture to prevent color cast. e.g. if you have a yellow scene + the blue from the sky, you'll get a green'ish color cast.
Thanks for the tutorials! You are definitely my favorite blender artist on youtube. I was wondering if it would be possible to add new shaders to Realtime Materials which involve particles, such as a grass or fur material. I don't know if it's possible but that would be an awesome addition!
Exactly what i needed, but there are so few and old tutorials to how to light metallic/chrome items, like jewelry... i know its way harder since they are essentially mirrors
@Ducky 3D: thanks a lot for the great vid! IDK if that works in blender or not, i used to use a texture in the light intensity in 3ds max years ago to get the leaves effect on light u showed us. i must give it a try because i saw a node button beside it.
Awesome video. I really need to start experimenting with my lighting. On a side note, Realtime Mats is amazing. Big fan of the hex mats. Also, never disturb a cat while it's eating. They know where you live😧😁.
Such a good video. Can’t wait to try the first one especially. I’m looking to buy your material collection. Is it a one off payment? Or is it an annual subscription?
Really love this kind of tutorial. This light setup is so satisfying. If I may ask, what kind of values did you used for the Peter Tarka version of the light setup for spot, area and point light? And I was wondering what kind of material is added to the background?
hey i got the realtime material and it is nothing but amazing, I use it a lot and it helps a lot, it sped up my workflow, and now I'm finally doing cool things in blender, but it still lacks some materials, here's some, you can put in the next update, : planked wood, wood but more gray, metal with edge rust or scratch ( the metal has a lighter color on edges to simulate scratches ), scratched paint, grass, ivory, clean metal, that's it , hope you can make them, thanks
At 11:40, I couldnt find anyone with the name "Peter Tarkov", unless I completely misheard the last name hehe. Would you be able to give me his name please?
OK I've been really trying to find content on lighting and have a question how do u pick which HDRI u want to use? Like what's the criteria when you're making this decision
What does "Attribution Required" means after paying $35 for your product? Do you mention and attribute everything you use? (Also please don't delete my question)
Mi brother ..que tú hagas un canal con todos estos videos traducido al audio latino ..sería la veerga mi brother .....y sería una entrada .para más dinero para ti ...ojala lo hagas Mi brother
Hey sir, I want to make my request for a video tutorial :P I'm struggling with Dust Particles, I just want to add some dust to my black box, so they will interact with the light coming throw the window... I hope my comment make sense, and if you help me I will send all the love throw the comment section.
What I don't understand is this: Don't you realize that you are distracting yourself by putting your own image? All that time is wasted and not watched.
7:56 This is such a neat little trick thrown in here. I gotta try it

As a beginner, this is one of the most concise yet valuable videos on lighting
Thank you so much

Yes. If you like lighting and material tutorials you should also check out polyfjord.
I like the pace and simplicity of your tutorials, super helpful. I don't need extreme editing and memes, just good info and a regular pace.
For people interested in IES light files you should also look into CRI values for lighting. CRI stands for colour rendering index and represents true colour values in light. Colour temperature is also important.
CRI doesn't apply to RGB rendering.
I think you mean Kelvin or CCT. Plug a blackbody node into the emission color to use the Kelvin value for the lamp color.
thanks for the tut and insights!

That awesome to hear man!!
finally lighting makes sense than random explorations. i understand better what I'm doing now. thank you for this!!

Thank's man. this tuto made me realize that i can look at pictures and figure it out the light/techniques by myself
I loved the video lots of value on the tutorials, this should be a series of videos replicating trends in 3D design
Oh that’s a great idea!!
Amazing tutorial, I keep coming back to it. Thank you.

3:49 u can use Shift+T to point the light
very nice, thank you. I think finding the right balance with the contrast by shadow and color is the crucial (and hard) part.
Very cool man, your delivery is very nice, I get creative ideas thanks to your content!
I appreciate that

Using an HDRI is a very smart technique while the scene is just focusing on just one key-light thanks for the video Buddy
A very interesting and useful tutorial...thanks! Still enjoying your Materials Pack...awesome!
Thanks for the great tutorial (really helpful👍🏻)

Can you make a Blender animation tutorial similar to Epic Games 'Mega Sale 2022' colorful background theme using geometry nodes ?

You can use textures in light nodes instead of using a plane with textures
Great one, go on
Please tell me how to make the shadows of the plants in the video transparent.

@@uglybagofmostlycoffee OHHH okay thank you so much! Appreciate it
Hello sir, can you share your Pinterest board where you have collected these cool stuff?
my area light settings look completely different, did something change?
I think perhaps rather than using an IES light, they may have plugged an hdr photo of caustics as a texture, into a light to get that pattern.
Can you publish your Pinterest board 🙏

Try different hdris until you found one that match with what you wanted
Desparate for a tut on how these soft bodies interact with the rigid bodies!

For the first setup, I’m guessing U meant spot light and not point.
