Hi Lee I have a set of the XTD's along with the spod reel and yes the drag was an issue so I did strip them down and they had soft washers but I think the main issue was the amount of grease in them so I clean the grease out and replaced the washers with carbon ones and OMG what a massive difference. So if anyone buys a set deffo do the change they won't regrete it. cheers Kevlar

I'm fishing the Daiwa GS 4000 on my 10" rods and I love them to bits. The aesthetics are great, the drag is smooth, I've never had a problem with them and it's a great little reel for short to Medium range fishing. What I don't like about it is the breaking force. 7 kilos for carp fishing just isn't much if you're trying to get on big fish. I've recently landed my first 22lbs carp and I can tell that these are more than enough reel for fish that size. No issues whatsoever. But that's still a smaller one so time will tell how I get on with them if I eventually hook a 30+lbs carp.
The GS reels are great they just need the quick drag adjustment. I wish Daiwa would bring out a new version exactly the same as the old model with a quick drag. Good luck with your hunt for a 30 thanks for watching
Have used the Emblems for the last year for my fishing here in Toronto. I initially had some issues with the drags playing up but invested in a set of felt washers for them and they’ve been an absolute dream since then. They are quite heavy and aren’t great if you’re a roaming angler but for session fishing behind static rods, they’re fantastic.
Hi James thanks for watching! How’s the carp fishing scene over there then is it quite big? That’s good then so they made a good improvement. No defiantly not what I would choose for roaming I’d go for my castizms for that or on small intimate waters I’d use the Gs’s.
Another super vid - thank you. I went from xtd's to black emblem 45 scw's, sold em all. The line behind the spool on the xtd's was a nightmare in 14000 and 5500's. The emblems, for me didn't feel sturdy and quite flexible/ flimsy,, particularly fishing weedy waters. Have the 14000xtb power aero's now, yes they're a different price point, but I feel defo worth the difference, smooth, sturdy, longer spool skirt so no line behind spool, love em, they're booootiful!!

Another great review , so impressed with my new set of 3 Emblem 45 5000C QD's . The spools listed on the site are now £16.99 but don't state if shallow or deep . I too have no use for the spare deep set I got free ..
For EUROPEAN carp fishing I prefer my XTD 14000, For U.K syndicate 5-10 acre carp fishing I prefer my XTD 5500. My reasoning is that I find them to be more delicate at playing fish once you get them within 2 rod lengths. For Catfishing I prefer the Daiwa Emblem SCW QD. The smooth retrieve, raw but smoothly controlled power & quick drag options prove pivotal in long range and close quarter control for fish that are often 5-7ft in length & can really use there length too maximise the advantage of the density of water.
I prefer a nice smaller real for smaller waters much nicer having a lighter setup! To be fair I don’t think there’s much in it distance wise between the 14000 and 5500 when casting 0.35 or smaller
I find the Ultegra 5500 to be a nicely weighted reel. Really well balanced on a 12ft Basia. Probably lose a few yards in casting though compare with the 1400. Emblems do look good though. 👍

Thanks for the video, recently bought the lighter 23 emblem 35 and they are top quality. one of the differences from the 45 is the smaller line capacity despite being listed both at 0.35mm/300m for the shallow spool. Filled mine with 0.35 korda touchdown and got about 270m on in without over-spooling. On the price, would really love to know where you get your reel because list prices are double than what you mentioned in the clip. The ultegra is 200 euro minimum, maybe 180 in surrounding EU countries. Shimano in Romania has had a recent bad rep with stocks, takes ages to receive at the tackle stores. Cheers from Bucharest!
another great video mate...i have 3 diawa crosscasts and i find the drag a bit like the windcasts ya mentioned it niether here or there!....tight lines until ya next one....

Only just found you for some reason?? Great channel. I can give a bit of feedback on the Shimanos XTD. I have 4 and have used them a lot. They are good generally for the cheaper end of the market however I agree on 3 points. 1. The drag is really disappointing could not believe how poor when I first got them so upgraded to carbon washers which helped but were still not great. 2. The line does go behind the spool quite often which is annoying. 3. I had the line guard mount snap so had to buy new replacements after only a few trips (I think it must have been faulty as I have not had another go more than 2 years later

shimano are brilliant reels I had the same problem with the line going behind the spool it drove me mental so got rid of them and got the dawia black ts5000be I love them with the folding handle so much better then undoing the screw on the other side like on shimano reels.in the end it is people's choice 👍👍

I’m someone who fishes a lot in large reservoirs, casting anywhere from 100 meters to 300 meters or more. Most of the time, I use a boat with an electric motor, of course. I have some old Daiwa reels that I’m planning to replace. On one of my rods, I’ll keep the Shimano Speedmaster 14000 XTD that I’ve been using for two years, as it has performed very well. But for the other two rods, I’ve been looking at the Daiwa reels, specifically the other version, which is: DAIWA EMBLEM 45 SCW QD OT. Could you please share your opinion about it? Hi, thank you for watching. I really like the Daiwa Emblems and still have had no issues with them. Food for thought the newer whisker reels come with 3 sets of spools an extra long range one with 700m of line capacity for extra long range boat work ect
Hi JC cheers pal! Check out wave inn they normally have the gold shallow ones in for £17 a spool they’ve only got the black ones atm for £25ish but the gold will come back in, they also get the silver and red ones too

I've hammered a set of 5500 XTD's for about 5 years, they have been through hell and had no service. They are a touch ropey now and need a new shaft on two of them, which I think is a bit shite although I have been cranking big leads back a long way on rivers. I have never had any issues with line guards, but I do use braid 99% of the time, and the drags are fine as they are without extra washers and any faster drag would lose any definition IMO.

Interesting vid mate, I’ve just got a pair of daiwa gs 4000 and have bought washer upgrades from reel king, they say you can use them dry or with a little grease. How have you got yours on the 3000?

Another great vid mate, I have a question for you or any of your followers really, IV got the 9ft scope's including the spod rod, I'm struggling to find a spod real for it, I use the xtd spod real on my 12ft rods but it's so unbalanced on my 9ft rod. I was thinking of using the Shimano 5500 xtd as the spod real for it. Do you think this would do the job or can you recommend a better option?
Only just found your channel so I've got a few videos to catch up on! I use the GS4000s on my 9ft rods and the best thing I did to them was upgrade the drag. It's still not as quick as other reels, but it massively reduces the number of turns needed to get from freespool to locked up.
What is your thoughts... which one will cast further on the exact same rod, with the exact same line and weight... the ultegra 5500 XTD or the Castizm 25 QDA?
Hi Denny, there will be very very little in it pal if Im entirely honest, the Cast’izm is a worlds apart better built reel but i think in the world of reels its 1 percents. One of the videos in the pipeline is rod size vs reel size vs line diameter. I just need to get out and get two free days to film it. That will show you how much it makes a difference
I would change from Shimano to the emblem's just because of looks, as for the line going behind the spool I've never had this happen to me?? I have the Berkeley line and its a lot less wiry than other lines maybe that's the difference??

I have light set of Daiwa emblem br 25 a reels with kaizen 12 feet rods and 0.24 braided line. I Dont know much about this stuff but those work like dream. cant think anything i would improve. Light set with really good cast range.
I have the 14000 xtds and I need smaller reels as I now have 10ft rods and was going to get the 5500 xtd as I can't see anything else that is better but I have had line getting wrapped under the spool so many times on my 14000 which really have put me off them
If your getting 10ft rods and honestly want an amazing balanced set up go for Castizm 25 QDAs or the Whisker 25 QDA nothing better honestly in my opinion but it’s not cheap
Loving the discontinued Cast Izm 25 QDA's I snagged recently. Bought spare spools too so I'm hoping they will keep me going for a long time. You shouldn't having trouble selling yours. I'd say they are better quality than the newer version but I'm no expert. 🙂

You could go for the 5500 size over the larger one. I have used castizms with my 12ft rods for years works a treat and they are Daiwa 25 size so much smaller that the 35 or 45 sizes and much lighter
I had ultegras xsc. Sold them. Yes i had problem with one safety line guard. No other problems. Sold them bought big baitrunner 14000 xtb. Also safety line guard broke on one but it wa smy uncles fault. Other than that no problems. Had daiwa emcasts. And I was thinking to buy new emblems. Is just the way they felt was all plastic. And sound of it when you retrieve system from your spot. Is like struggle. So i decided to stick with shimano.

@@CaravanCarpers i know. But i got emblem scw 45 qd. Bodymaterial feels like cheap plastic, and sound when you retrieve line frpm spot sounds like its struggling. I didnt like that. I know old emblems. I had them. They are way better built (my oppinion) than new ones..
Hello pal, yes i totally agree the older Diawas are built better than the new thats why i didnt buy the tournaments basia and went for the emblems. My favorite reels are the original ISO’s mega reels

I have the Ultegra 14000 xtd which i think are a great reel but have had some problems with the line guard , line going behind and even had the guard pop out of its grooves , haven't got a clue how but its happened a couple of times
I have the emblems, but I do have an issue with one of them. The drag isn't right on it. Sent it back and they told me nothing is wrong. Playing fish on that one is a bit of a pain, loosen off the drag to let the fish run and there is still too much tension even when its loosened right off, definitely different to the other 2....shame really cos I really like them. 👍
Hi Lenny, I believe the main mechanism to deal with the drag is the spool cap try swapping it between reels and see if the problem moves , probs look to try and replace if that sorts your issue they won’t be expensive I don’t think. Thanks for watching pal much appreciated
Very disappointed in the build quality of the 5500XTD. After a season fishing for barbel at the IJssel river, both reels have quite some play on the handles and gears. As a result both reels are wobbling. The drag system is horrible. Line lay is good. No problems with the line clip. I am in doubt to send these for repair or just bin these reels and buy a couple of new reels.☹
So many people have replied the same. The line lay is better than the scw of the Daiwa to be fair I totally agree on that. Thank you for watching. What reels will you go for next
I had the xtds for a few month and absolutely hated them. Line would constantly get stuck behind the spool and they just felt cheap and bulky. I sold them and bought a pair of black isos and can't fault them whatsoever. I know loads of people who's had the clickers go in the spools, even inthe power aero and techniums. It's a common fault on shimano reels

I agree with you in the Points about the XTD. Fish them when they come on market. Switch then to the Emblem straight to the actual SCW SD. Absolut stunning Mid Range Reels. But yesterday ich played around with the XTE at my Tackle Dealer and today 7am im sitting in my kitchen with a nicely Coffee and look directly on my new XTE Reels. I like the 45 Spool and the Big Design on my Emblems but i don't know why but the XTE are damn sexy too🤩😂 Greetz from Germany✌🏼

I dont own any of the reels, but I think that Shimano are not as well make these day. The RE bait runners are aweful compared with previous baitrummers. Diawa do make fantastic reels.
Love the ci4s there very light, if you compare the ci4 to the ultegra there is a much larger gap between the bottom of the spool and the line guard on the ultegra.
@@kaigee7134 ci4s are better but the emblems are in a different price range, the emblems are similar prices to the ultegra and I’d choose the emblems to be honest although the ultegra feels better quality.
@@CaravanCarpers they come with spare spool, 2 fold away handles..... not so keen on the newer ones with all the white lettering but the mk 1 n 2s are stealth lol.... they also do a carbon reel aswell but there a different gravy.... 👍
Speaking about the cheap bastard that I am, when I bought the Ultegra's XTD were 120E/piece....and that was 10 years ago..... They are still as brand new with 1 out of 4 having only a little scratch on 1 spool.... Spod still spods at 200meters and catches catfish the size of small cars. Carbon washers were 3E per set, now if you want to replace the washers are 7E per set...... I have 2 Aero Technium MSG.....but I always take those 4 XTD, because I do not need more..... I've seen Daiwa crack apart in time, but I doubt that those are because of Daiwa, and more about abuse of the owner......but god damn, my Ultegras are 10 years and don't show it (I use them for feeder fishing, carp fishing, casting, they are my go to reel at a cheap price) ..... Emblems are great, but at a greater price, and need like you said an upgrade for the drag (but I;ve upgraded my ultegras to carbon to, so it's a tie)..... but a bit more expensive for fairly the same things..... And at this point in time paying 300E for a reel, XR's have exploded in price, or a sweet Daiwa Emblem, they kinda seem bonker for thinking I'll bin 4 reels that have stood the test of time and have enough memories to write books about them.....
had the emblem 45 for a few years great reel but fancied a change so upgraded them for the shimano Ci4 and wouldn't touch diawa ever again shimano are on a different level everything about that reel is just so much better and the drag unreal and line lay second to none ,the line issue on the Ci4 only happens when they get overfilled with line I did make the same mistake myself took 30 yards off the spools and never had any issues since on mono or braid , no denying the diawa 45 is a good reel but the Ci4 is a lot better and well worth the extra money
I heard the diawa emblems and crosscast have a problem with main bar was bending when the drag is too tight or from small drops and bangs then the line lay will be off set, I was going to go with the penn affinitys as they have titanium bars, but I ended up with the ultegras due to the mainstream hype 🤣🤣
The ultegra 14000 xtd are terrible for the line going underneath the spool. And the line clips are absolute tosh. I use 0.35 line and it’s forever coming out the clip. Good retrieve, good line lay, but that’s about it. Waste of my hard earned money
Hi Mark, yea it’s a shame isn’t it some great features but just let down by the flaws! I’m not sure what the new versions are like but hopefully they have got rid of these problems.

Ahh you defiantly want the shallow ones don’t you other wise you need loads of backing line.
For EUROPEAN carp fishing I prefer my XTD 14000, For U.K syndicate 5-10 acre carp fishing I prefer my XTD 5500. My reasoning is that I find them to be more delicate at playing fish once you get them within 2 rod lengths. For Catfishing I prefer the Daiwa Emblem SCW QD. The smooth retrieve, raw but smoothly controlled power & quick drag options prove pivotal in long range and close quarter control for fish that are often 5-7ft in length & can really use there length too maximise the advantage of the density of water.
I prefer a nice smaller real for smaller waters much nicer having a lighter setup! To be fair I don’t think there’s much in it distance wise between the 14000 and 5500 when casting 0.35 or smaller

I find the Ultegra 5500 to be a nicely weighted reel. Really well balanced on a 12ft Basia. Probably lose a few yards in casting though compare with the 1400. Emblems do look good though. 👍

Thanks for the video, recently bought the lighter 23 emblem 35 and they are top quality. one of the differences from the 45 is the smaller line capacity despite being listed both at 0.35mm/300m for the shallow spool. Filled mine with 0.35 korda touchdown and got about 270m on in without over-spooling. On the price, would really love to know where you get your reel because list prices are double than what you mentioned in the clip. The ultegra is 200 euro minimum, maybe 180 in surrounding EU countries. Shimano in Romania has had a recent bad rep with stocks, takes ages to receive at the tackle stores. Cheers from Bucharest!

Only just found you for some reason?? Great channel. I can give a bit of feedback on the Shimanos XTD. I have 4 and have used them a lot. They are good generally for the cheaper end of the market however I agree on 3 points. 1. The drag is really disappointing could not believe how poor when I first got them so upgraded to carbon washers which helped but were still not great. 2. The line does go behind the spool quite often which is annoying. 3. I had the line guard mount snap so had to buy new replacements after only a few trips (I think it must have been faulty as I have not had another go more than 2 years later

shimano are brilliant reels I had the same problem with the line going behind the spool it drove me mental so got rid of them and got the dawia black ts5000be I love them with the folding handle so much better then undoing the screw on the other side like on shimano reels.in the end it is people's choice 👍👍

I’m someone who fishes a lot in large reservoirs, casting anywhere from 100 meters to 300 meters or more. Most of the time, I use a boat with an electric motor, of course.
I have some old Daiwa reels that I’m planning to replace. On one of my rods, I’ll keep the Shimano Speedmaster 14000 XTD that I’ve been using for two years, as it has performed very well. But for the other two rods, I’ve been looking at the Daiwa reels, specifically the other version, which is: DAIWA EMBLEM 45 SCW QD OT.

Hi, thank you for watching. I really like the Daiwa Emblems and still have had no issues with them. Food for thought the newer whisker reels come with 3 sets of spools an extra long range one with 700m of line capacity for extra long range boat work ect

I've hammered a set of 5500 XTD's for about 5 years, they have been through hell and had no service. They are a touch ropey now and need a new shaft on two of them, which I think is a bit shite although I have been cranking big leads back a long way on rivers. I have never had any issues with line guards, but I do use braid 99% of the time, and the drags are fine as they are without extra washers and any faster drag would lose any definition IMO.

Interesting vid mate, I’ve just got a pair of daiwa gs 4000 and have bought washer upgrades from reel king, they say you can use them dry or with a little grease. How have you got yours on the 3000?

Another great vid mate, I have a question for you or any of your followers really, IV got the 9ft scope's including the spod rod, I'm struggling to find a spod real for it, I use the xtd spod real on my 12ft rods but it's so unbalanced on my 9ft rod. I was thinking of using the Shimano 5500 xtd as the spod real for it. Do you think this would do the job or can you recommend a better option?
Hi Aaron, i use a Castizm 25 mate and its mega light and balanced with my 10ft rods. Same size as a 5500 and weight as a CI4 version i think

I use the GS4000s on my 9ft rods and the best thing I did to them was upgrade the drag. It's still not as quick as other reels, but it massively reduces the number of turns needed to get from freespool to locked up.

Hi Denny, there will be very very little in it pal if Im entirely honest, the Cast’izm is a worlds apart better built reel but i think in the world of reels its 1 percents. One of the videos in the pipeline is rod size vs reel size vs line diameter. I just need to get out and get two free days to film it. That will show you how much it makes a difference
I would change from Shimano to the emblem's just because of looks, as for the line going behind the spool I've never had this happen to me?? I have the Berkeley line and its a lot less wiry than other lines maybe that's the difference??

I have light set of Daiwa emblem br 25 a reels with kaizen 12 feet rods and 0.24 braided line. I Dont know much about this stuff but those work like dream. cant think anything i would improve. Light set with really good cast range.

I have the 14000 xtds and I need smaller reels as I now have 10ft rods and was going to get the 5500 xtd as I can't see anything else that is better but I have had line getting wrapped under the spool so many times on my 14000 which really have put me off them
If your getting 10ft rods and honestly want an amazing balanced set up go for Castizm 25 QDAs or the Whisker 25 QDA nothing better honestly in my opinion but it’s not cheap

Loving the discontinued Cast Izm 25 QDA's I snagged recently. Bought spare spools too so I'm hoping they will keep me going for a long time. You shouldn't having trouble selling yours. I'd say they are better quality than the newer version but I'm no expert. 🙂

Are 5500xtd good for 13ft rod ? Can it cast 110m ?
I can cast 110m with my 25 size Daiwa reels which are the same size as the 5500, it’s easier with the bigger size reels but line and rod dependant

You could go for the 5500 size over the larger one. I have used castizms with my 12ft rods for years works a treat and they are Daiwa 25 size so much smaller that the 35 or 45 sizes and much lighter
I had ultegras xsc. Sold them. Yes i had problem with one safety line guard. No other problems. Sold them bought big baitrunner 14000 xtb. Also safety line guard broke on one but it wa smy uncles fault. Other than that no problems. Had daiwa emcasts. And I was thinking to buy new emblems. Is just the way they felt was all plastic. And sound of it when you retrieve system from your spot. Is like struggle. So i decided to stick with shimano.

@@CaravanCarpers i know. But i got emblem scw 45 qd. Bodymaterial feels like cheap plastic, and sound when you retrieve line frpm spot sounds like its struggling. I didnt like that. I know old emblems. I had them. They are way better built (my oppinion) than new ones..

No not with the standard ones, you can buy folding handles from the likes of weston develpoments
I have the emblems, but I do have an issue with one of them. The drag isn't right on it. Sent it back and they told me nothing is wrong. Playing fish on that one is a bit of a pain, loosen off the drag to let the fish run and there is still too much tension even when its loosened right off, definitely different to the other 2....shame really cos I really like them. 👍
Hi Lenny, I believe the main mechanism to deal with the drag is the spool cap try swapping it between reels and see if the problem moves , probs look to try and replace if that sorts your issue they won’t be expensive I don’t think. Thanks for watching pal much appreciated
Very disappointed in the build quality of the 5500XTD. After a season fishing for barbel at the IJssel river, both reels have quite some play on the handles and gears. As a result both reels are wobbling. The drag system is horrible. Line lay is good. No problems with the line clip. I am in doubt to send these for repair or just bin these reels and buy a couple of new reels.☹
So many people have replied the same. The line lay is better than the scw of the Daiwa to be fair I totally agree on that. Thank you for watching. What reels will you go for next
Had my emblems since they come out gold spool ones love em never had one issue with them i do find shimanos feel a bit cheaper

I had the xtds for a few month and absolutely hated them. Line would constantly get stuck behind the spool and they just felt cheap and bulky. I sold them and bought a pair of black isos and can't fault them whatsoever. I know loads of people who's had the clickers go in the spools, even inthe power aero and techniums. It's a common fault on shimano reels

I agree with you in the Points about the XTD. Fish them when they come on market. Switch then to the Emblem straight to the actual SCW SD. Absolut stunning Mid Range Reels. But yesterday ich played around with the XTE at my Tackle Dealer and today 7am im sitting in my kitchen with a nicely Coffee and look directly on my new XTE Reels. I like the 45 Spool and the Big Design on my Emblems but i don't know why but the XTE are damn sexy too🤩😂

I dont own any of the reels, but I think that Shimano are not as well make these day. The RE bait runners are aweful compared with previous baitrummers. Diawa do make fantastic reels.

The Ci4s have the same issue as the others, my mate has just sold his ci4s and bought emblems
Love the ci4s there very light, if you compare the ci4 to the ultegra there is a much larger gap between the bottom of the spool and the line guard on the ultegra.
@@kaigee7134 ci4s are better but the emblems are in a different price range, the emblems are similar prices to the ultegra and I’d choose the emblems to be honest although the ultegra feels better quality.

Speaking about the cheap bastard that I am, when I bought the Ultegra's XTD were 120E/piece....and that was 10 years ago.....
They are still as brand new with 1 out of 4 having only a little scratch on 1 spool.... Spod still spods at 200meters and catches catfish the size of small cars.
Carbon washers were 3E per set, now if you want to replace the washers are 7E per set......
I have 2 Aero Technium MSG.....but I always take those 4 XTD, because I do not need more.....
I've seen Daiwa crack apart in time, but I doubt that those are because of Daiwa, and more about abuse of the owner......but god damn, my Ultegras are 10 years and don't show it (I use them for feeder fishing, carp fishing, casting, they are my go to reel at a cheap price) .....
Emblems are great, but at a greater price, and need like you said an upgrade for the drag (but I;ve upgraded my ultegras to carbon to, so it's a tie)..... but a bit more expensive for fairly the same things.....
And at this point in time paying 300E for a reel, XR's have exploded in price, or a sweet Daiwa Emblem, they kinda seem bonker for thinking I'll bin 4 reels that have stood the test of time and have enough memories to write books about them.....

had the emblem 45 for a few years great reel but fancied a change so upgraded them for the shimano Ci4 and wouldn't touch diawa ever again shimano are on a different level everything about that reel is just so much better and the drag unreal and line lay second to none ,the line issue on the Ci4 only happens when they get overfilled with line I did make the same mistake myself took 30 yards off the spools and never had any issues since on mono or braid , no denying the diawa 45 is a good reel but the Ci4 is a lot better and well worth the extra money
One thing i do like about the Ci4s is how light they are. Have you seen the new mags in the flesh yet with the 45 spools

I heard the diawa emblems and crosscast have a problem with main bar was bending when the drag is too tight or from small drops and bangs then the line lay will be off set, I was going to go with the penn affinitys as they have titanium bars, but I ended up with the ultegras due to the mainstream hype 🤣🤣

The ultegra 14000 xtd are terrible for the line going underneath the spool. And the line clips are absolute tosh. I use 0.35 line and it’s forever coming out the clip. Good retrieve, good line lay, but that’s about it. Waste of my hard earned money
