Anton Yelchin & Jeremy Saulnier on Their Punk Band Days Pre-'Green Room'

  • I very rarely shell out A ratings, but I fell hard for Jeremy Saulnier's Green Room at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. It focuses on a punk band called The Ain't Rights. Their tour isn't going particularly well so they decide to pack it in. In order to get some gas money to get home, they take a questionable gig at a secluded backwoods bar. They see something they shouldn't and wind up trapped in the bar's green room with the owner (Patrick Stewart) and his thugs right outside the door, eager to eliminate the problem.
With the movie hitting select theaters on April 15th and then expanding on April 29th, I got the chance to sit down with Saulnier and star Anton Yelchin to chat about how the film came to be and their experience bringing it to screen. Check out what they told me about their music skills, casting Stewart as Darcy a mere 10 days before the shoot and loads more in this video interview.

this movie was insane. I felt so uneasy throughout it- the scariest monsters are the realistic ones.

It was sad. I found out was that I went to my yahoo account to check my email. And there it was, on yahoo news. It was one of those moment where I was in denial. I was like, tell me it ain't so. I was a big fan of his since Hearts in Atlantis. I was like, whoa, this kid is going somewhere with his acting.

Extremely impressive to hear that scene with the hand/arm was practical, that's really cool.

I was lucky enough to see this movie last year at the Calgary International Film Festival. All i knew about the film was that Sir Patrick Stewart was in it, and that it was about a punk rock band that see's something they aren't supposed to in a neo nazi bar. This movie is absolutely brilliant, i was so uncomfortable and on the edge of my seat all at the same time. If you love thrillers, this movie should be at the top of your list to watch. If you can't handle gore... you might want to rethink seeing this in theaters.

Definitely intrigued. Biggest concern was the music and their depiction of punks. Let's hope there's some good, crazy HC. That'll make the average audience feel even more uneasy.

You people should try to do these type of interviews ( in studio ) more often .

patrick stewart was an odd choice but i have to say it brings an air of mystery like was he formerly irish and then moved to america and formed his opinions on people after he lived in the states for a while? Did his loved ones get killed by a black guy? Wtf is his deal? Certainly added a new dimension to the film
