@@bichanhlethi2961 It depends on what that dream is and who this everyone you are talking about. If you are talking about the lady in the video, she has that victim mentality that's keeping her down. I'm black and I've been living in Vietnam for more than 4 years. Best decision of my life. Exposure to racism here is ZERO, at least for me. Vietnamese people, if you don't know, you are the most beautiful people and I want to thank you, a million times, for making me feel so welcome in your country.
If you are still in Viet Nam can I correspond with you? I have visited saigon and loved it, I’m ready to make a move, but not sure how to find apartment, get work permit (teaching) etc.
I traveled through SouthEast Asia alone in 2001 and I was a naive Chinese American female and the kindness I experienced from the locals in Vietnam were truly amazing. When I got lost and asked a woman for directions, she insisted on driving me there. I didn’t speak the language but she kept pointing for me to follow her and we walked to her motorcycle. Another random woman noticed I was reading a guidebook and offered to take me on a tour of the area. People were so kind and expected nothing back in return.
I am excited to visit Vietnam, thank you for this video. Really takes an adventurous spirit and bravery to do what this lady did, moving to a new country and culture so different from your own.
Love when people give more respect to Vietnam. Remember when I first studied abroad, people only know Vietnam as poor country, Vietnamese war, dangerous country, etc. It hurted me so bad. Vietnam is beautiful country with rich culture and friendly people.
Feel the same thing. Still there're a lot of bad reputations of our country out there but that ain't stop the goodness which is populating constantly. So proud to be Vietnamese.
Truee. Vietnam has so many greater things than just wars. Vietnamese are warriors of course, but we have more than that. Im hurt when some countries look down on Vietnam. I don't feel safe living in America. I'm scared of guns
The first impression of Japaneses about Vietnam when they talked to me is A country which drowned in long-term wars. Poor and not safe. But I know what, guess which country's doing so well, much better than some great, superior likes.
I recently returned from Vietnam... Ho Chi Minh City or Old Siagon, Hoi An, and Halong Bay my favorite! She is absolutely right and brave to ride the scooter especially in Siagon. I'm black, retired from military and own property in two countries abroad, it's refreshing to see other blacks actually living abroad. It really is not that hard, just take the leap... you will not regret it!

I have been in Vietnam for a long time, I see here they do not discriminate against people of color and do not discriminate against skin color. Here I am loved by everyone. Many people often look at me, not because they are discriminating but because they are curious. I find Vietnamese people quite friendly and hospitable
@Silent Rage I lived in Vietnam in 2017 and it was amazing but he's quite right, Vietnam is still a communist country, there are no opposition parties and dissenting voices that run counter to the State are threatened or shut down. It's important to remember our privilege as foreigners in Vietnam and how unaware we are of the intricacies of daily life for Vietnamese which happens due to not knowing the language and the barrier this creates in understanding the nuances of Vietnamese culture, that being said, Vietnam is welcoming, the people are warm and I concur with most of what the Angee said as it mirrored my experience.
@@bwana3006 btw, ppl are contributing in these other countries, so i doubt contribution is the remedy when its being done in these countries. Its the freedom to live decent that's being praised and to be treated as human, rather than stock.

Yes, I now understand what I have just heard from this interview. ...a person who knows themselves and their place in the world...very nicely summed up.
I love how the Americans who likely never left the U.S try to convince Vietnamese people we don't have freedom. Well, we are covid-free and no one is murdered by cops. That sounds like freedome to me.
Well, actually... there are quite some murder cases by the cops usually when the suspect is in custody. I do love Vietnam and my people for all the good things, many of which are mentioned in this video

Okay, I agree Vietnam is not perfect, but compare it to other countries in the region or to major world powers such as the USA, Brazil or the UK and you will see who is actually failing its population. Now, let us compare Vietnam to a country that also has no mass testing and has lost track of the original pockets or people that introduced the virus, a country that has a similar GDP as Vietnam - my own country Romania. I went out to eat hu tieu the other day, sat next to a black girl. She was extremely pretty, taller than me (and I'm already tall for a Vietnamese girl), long brown hair in rows, wide brown eyes, casual sleeveless t-shirt and jean. Her skin was mesmerizing. A dark rich colour that seems to shine under the neon light, like gold strips dip in chocolate. I wanted to comment on it, give compliments on her beauty. But I was scared that would be misinterpreted as somewhat racist or sth, cause the initial compliments were about her skin and ethnicity. I was terified that it would somehow make her uneasy and leave a bad impression if I say the wrong thing. So I shut my mouth and settle with stealing a glance on her from time to time during the meal. I'm truly in shame for my cowardice :(
I wish you had spoken to her. I think she would appreciate it. My Vietnamese friends say they like my skin too. I like the Vietnamese skin color also. I think Vietnamese women are beautiful, especially your hair. It is so thick and black and shiny.
I'm.a white girl who had a black boyfriend. I was fascinated and mesmerized by his skin too. It just takes your breath away, I dunno, cause it's different from ours right? Even still, now we're friends, and I still love it.
I can relate. The first time I saw a true blue "white" foreigner (although she may have just been an albino.) She was so pale it was almost mesmerizing. I had to remind myself that it was a person I was looking at not an angel and that I should probably stop gawking. There's a major difference I think between admiration and respect and unbridled curiosity. It's okay to compliment us.This this would have been fine.
Angee is an amazing person and I love this. I am a white guy from New York who has been living in Vietnam since 1995 but who has been here part of each year since 1988. I met a Vietnamese woman in New York in 1976 and were married in 1977... still married. If I could learn Vietnamese then so can Angee so please take the step of confidence that you can learn and then go ahead and learn it. The Vietnamese love word play and Angee can have a ton of fun with some simple spoonerisms (syllable reversal like "hu ai yow = how are you".) People will love that! On my first trip in 1988 I can say it was so different than now. There were still Amerasians all over. America took them in a few years later, Anyway, I remember meeting a group of about 15 black Amerasians hanging out on Le Loi Street (Saigon) and my wife and I took them to the Bach Dang Ice Cream shop on Le Loi Street and had one of the most memorable evenings in my life. Today that would cost a bit of money but back then it was nothing. One interesting thing about Vietnam is that there are people of many ethnic backgrounds and some with very dark skin. Generally speaking people prefer light skin as Angee said but regardless... I don't think that anyone could comprehend the notion of separating people on a public bus according to skin color as was done in parts of American when I was growing up in the 1950s. And Angee is right about being able to do anything with exception political stuff. But I can say for the things I like to do I have never had any issue.

Just stumbled upon this great and very informative interview. I had been hesitating to travel to Vietnam but this interview has wiped away that fear. I did some cost of living research after watching the video: I will like to live in retirement in Danang because I love beaches.
a mistake here, You want to live in retirement in Da Nang city because you love beaches. And sea food very cheap. It my hometown Da Nang city, Viet Nam :)) .Welcome you
I would say they were showing their friendliness and excitement for you but people should know what is limits. This was a wonderful interview. I love the natural scene i.e. dog barking, cars, You kept it real. Thank you. It's not often to see North America Black women do what you are doing.
@Michal Blaszczak well....explain to me then where this took place. What country, city, and bank? You talk about free....what do you know about being free? US exploited over 40 million people during the mortgage crisis. Tell me where in Asia you experienced such injustice in buying real estate.
I went on a trip to Thailand for a few months and while there I met a woman who travels quite a bit, and when I asked her for recommendations and stuff she said that Vietnam was a place I absolutely have to visit. This video only makes me wanna visit even more lol
I did 2 tours of duty in South Vietnam in the us marines 1967 through early 1969. I was proud to represent my country as a Black American even having grown up the Jim crow South. I learned to hate the people who were trying to kill me and my fellow Americans. I took many of their lives in defense of my own. I realized a few years later after the war ended that I killed freedom fighters who only wanted to live their lives with dignity and not be subservient to white Europeans or White Americans any longer. They wanted to choose their own form of government. Think of the American revolution. Without dishonoring any of the brave young Americans who gave the full measure of themselves for our country, i would like to say , sorry it took so long for truth to prevail.
It's OK and come back and visit us again. We heal so fast now most people don't hold a prejudice or hate again America. We know who the bad guy really is
@@AQuietNight South Vietnamese had more hardcore communists, Le Duan the commnunist leader of the North VN was from the South. Maybe some Vietnamese in that moment wanted the communism, some just didn't, but most of us just wanted a united and independent country !
Vietnam is a very welcoming and beautiful country, there is no racism over here. It is called a communist country but i gotta say that we can just do anything we want in Vietnam except insulting governors (of course nobody wants to do that in such a nice country). Doesn’t mattar where you are from, doesn’t matter what your countries did to us in the past, we won’t care about that if you come here as long as you are coming with nice attitude. I am a tour guide in Halong bay , ive met thousands of people around the world and they always ask me the same question like “what do you think or what do vietnamese think of american or french (coz they came to rule and occupy Vietnam)”. The answer is we don’t care about that so just come. We appreciate if you realize your country was wrong in the past but in Vietnam we have a saying that you can ask any vietnamese friend to explain which is “đánh kẻ chạy đi, không đánh kẻ chạy lại”, it basically means as long as you know your mistake and apology, we will forgive whatever.
Maybe you can answer this question for us, my spouse was born in Vietnam but moved to America as a child. We are married and have children, would our family be welcome to move to Vietnam permanently? My spouse is also a (nonviolent offender) felon now, would that effect the decision?
Sunny Deise it’s more about does ur spouse have the right to get a visa from ur country and will your country let him/her leave as that personnel were once a felon, in many countries, people who once committed crime doesn’t have the right to travel to other countries. And also about the virus outbreak situation in ur country, u cant get a visa if u’re from those countries that have high infection rates

I’ve had a friend from Vietnam and a few from the Filipines and I will say that they are truly beautiful in the soul as they are visually. Amazing personality and very appreciative. I’m ashamed to say that when the Filipinos came to my part of the United States to work they were treated badly..next to nothing. So I brought them onto my crew and I was shocked on how excited they were. I wondered why they were so excited and anxious because they were hardly ever near me, being that the Hotel was so large, I only seen them during pre-shift meetings. I asked them why were they so excited when everyone else was already saying that I, as a 24 year old black guy, was mean and strict. Angie is truthfully speaking because they saw, what everyone else did, that I was a very hard worker, they also saw that I was mean and strict but very focused on my tasks. Both groups told me that they see that I am constantly smiling and laughing and they seen that other people enjoyed being around me and so they wanted to experience my atmosphere. They’re observation of people is off the scale and they helped me to understand that about myself which has made me a better person on the inside because we all have that deep off feeling that’s hidden within. Their attitudes are unrealistic. They appreciated me so much that, unlike my American group, the Vietnamese and the Filipino group would not allow me to do any type of work, lol! They say I work to hard..to much and I can just sit, relax and trust them to do everything. I didn’t like it because (1) I like to clean my way (2) I don’t like to just sit and watch others work. When I say their Observation was off the scale I meant it! I sat, because I didn’t want to offend them, and when I say they cleaned the very same way as I did..they did just that and did not miss a beat. I’m grateful to have met such a live, proud, honest, gracious and beautiful group of human beings. Eventually I turned them over to another supervisor only because them treating me like a King was not for me. I love them all but they were spoiling me to heavily plus I couldn’t take them leaving me because their visa was expiring and the 5 months we spent together we became like a family. They told me they didn’t like the others and were upset with me but I guaranteed them that their new lead’s personality was on par with mine so they will be happy. They were happy and they took what they learned from me with them and I still have them in my heart and is still living by what and how they saw me. Their mentality, from what I saw, is “treat me good and I’ll treat you greater”. They know “value” and they know “worth” and they treat people accordingly. It’s a shame and I hate to hear that they are trying to whitewash that uniqueness away. I’ve heard this about both groups and this means that their genuine nature will become corrupt.

Vietnam is my place of birth. But I grew up almost all my life in the USA. Vietnam is an awesome country. It's on the rise, so if you get on the ground floor in a good industry, you will rise with it. And the cost of living is relatively cheap. If you find a way to have a good income stream--and put away some money for your next pivot--it's a great place to stay. Vietnamese don't have the same kinds of prejudices as people in the USA. They direct any prejudices to other minority groups--the Chinese and the Indigenous. Yes, they will be curious about black people but once they satisfy their curiosity, they get along with their lives.
Vietnam has about 50 different ethnic minorities, we have never experienced ethnic clash or riots. It’s a mainly Buddhist culture - very accepting. As long as someone does not come to the country or greet the people with the usual “colonial white privilege” attitude, that person shall be embraced.
true but not all, Vietnam is one of the atheist countries in the world , so Buddhism + Christianity is only around 25% of the population, the majority is atheist/folk religion which respect ancestors, family... and I love that way because religion conflicts are way more harmful than what they really can bring to real life. The right way to educate people is through education, family and community, the need of religion is old school practice
@@trungvang417 yes I would also describe Vietnamese culture as being mainly free of religion, with some comparatively smaller additions of ancestor 'worship' (seems more like blessings to me than worship), and a wide variety of folk beliefs.... The folk beliefs are often quirky, funny, and maybe sort of crazy. But IMO it's way better if the weird things people believe are little things like "if you take a shower in the evening you will get sick", or, "your lungs can only heal if you eat lungs"... and not "you must truly believe this crazy and illogical story about Jesus and 'God' - which you can never see any evidence of being true - or you'll suffer for eternity, mkay"
well that's not entirely true, there were major minority conflicts during the 2000s; also frankly we Kinh majority is not exactly the most acceptance when it come to ethnicity

He said, in Vietnam people’s doors are never locked and always opened because they’re not afraid of getting robbed or worrying if anyone will go in and steal from them. Which is true from what I witnessed when I visited Vietnam. And over here in the United States. We all locked ourselves in our homes because we are afraid for our lives that we will get robbed or stolen from.

I love her thought perspective on things - no sugar coat & real! One of my top favorite interviews of all!
My Vietnamese friends
say they like my skin too. I like the Vietnamese skin color also. I think Vietnamese women are beautiful, especially your hair. It is so thick and black and shiny.
Next time you see someone like her that you believe is beautiful...tell her...we appreciate compliments.
I'm.a white girl who had a black boyfriend. I was fascinated and mesmerized by his skin too. It just takes your breath away, I dunno, cause it's different from ours right? Even still, now we're friends, and I still love it.
Awww this was SO beautiful. You're an amazing writer and as I'm sure, an equally amazing and beautiful person.
I came here to see what it's like being Black in Vietnam, and walked out being a better parent for my kids that I haven't had yet.
Congrats
Thank you for coming to Vietnam. We always welcome you with hospitality and friendliness.

Thank you for helping the Filipinos out. Nice that you mentioned "soul". We're all just energy, skin color is irrelevant.

Such a great interview. Very practical and down to earth. The way of the U.S. today has me looking at making another way of living. Starting to do the research now. Thank you for sharing. This experience will definitely impact positively on the kids.
I love her!!! Her attitude and outlook on life is so positive. I agree with her 100% that travel and seeing other cultures and having an open mind is the best way to live life.
Yes! Shes living not existing!
I'm Vietnamese and thank you for making a positive video about our country :)
This video is spectacular. UA-cam suggested this vid. I’m definitely subscribing. Great content. Keep up the great work ❤🎉
I moved out of the states almost 2yrs ago, and i must say it was the best decision i could've made, I'm not trying to go back to the states honestly. I'm still trying to decide which country i want to be permanently, but i really do enjoy being outside the states. Peace of mind and safety.
SomethingNewAMBW Where did u decide to live?
@@tam-tam9416 i wouldn't say "decided", but "chance"..... but as of now I'm living in Beijing
I wish I could move out of CA
@@niamtxiv really? Is due to the rising cost of living?
And if you don't me asking, would you happen to be Hmong? The writing looks familiar.
“Too much emphasis on time at school rather than quality of education...”
Lol spot on 😂😂
Angie is an awesome, smart woman, she's inspirational.
Vietnam has about 50 different ethnic minorities, we have never experienced ethnic clash or riots. It’s a mainly Buddhist culture - very accepting. As long as someone does not come to the country or greet the people with the usual “colonial white privilege” attitude, that person shall be embraced.
🙏 preach !
true but not all, Vietnam is one of the atheist countries in the world , so Buddhism + Christianity is only around 25% of the population, the majority is atheist/folk religion which respect ancestors, family... and I love that way because religion conflicts are way more harmful than what they really can bring to real life.
@@VuLamDang Well I mean our Miss Vietnam is from small ethnic group, and we all love her with her exotic experience and innocent characteristics
Inspiring video. I myself am tired of the 9to5 “workday” and just being slaved to working all day and not having a life.
My neighbors from Vietnam think moving to America is the best decision they ever made. Whatever makes you happy.
I think you, BEJ, provide a necessary public service. God bless you! Continue challenging people's natural inclination to limit themselves!
Good for her we’re all basically slaves in America working many hours barely have time with family! Looking forward to retirement and move to Vietnam so I can easily travel the world as everywhere else is so much closer and such a relaxing life style! My dad is retired he moved back to Vietnam and is living the life.
Lucille Nguyen facts
Facts ! My dad said something back then that always stayed with me. It’s insane to know that our parents and families life nam to come here for freedom when their isn’t really much freedom in that aspect. 🤷🏻♂️
@@larenzocizzle9371 please do lock your door whenever you live, Vietnam rarely have thefts but we still have, mostly in big cities
In fact, foreigners are completely wrong when thinking that Vietnam really welcomes you, perhaps you have not surfed social networks for articles related to Vietnamese politics. My country has the right to curse the US and capitalist countries in the worst way possible, that's what the Vietnamese government wants, if someone defends Americans or capitalist countries there will be countless virtual accounts personally attack that person
Thanks a lot for your attentions. Vietnam is a beautiful country. Sure the scenery, landscapes, food (for so cheap!) and culture is amazing.
There are so many photogenic places, both natural and man made.
The infrastructure is also very good. The trains are quite efficient and Ho Chi Minh City is very modern.
The people are also very friendly and kind, but this certainly improves as you move out of the touristed areas (as with any country).
@Bryan Truong,
1) Where is Ho Cho Minh city? Is Ho Cho Minh city also dubbed by local people as Ho Chua Mua city?
2) Yes, Vietnamese people are friendly and kind. What a pity that the communists in Vietnam are thieves, liars filled with hatred for anyone who does not embrace communist dictatorship and who wants multi-party democracy.
3) Which country were you living when you posted your comment 2 years ago?
I need to find myself there asap.
These are the liberators of the real world.
God Bless Everyone pushing this platform for change and overstanding.

Greetings from South Africa. Gonna visit Vietnam soon.
This lady is a sweetheart. I wish her the best in life.
Wow, Angie the Divas well said. I'm completely 100% agree with you. Vietnamese people are very welcoming, curious, and friendly. We do not discriminate against anyone. Thank you for sharing your story.

Opening a street food stall on the front of the house is a nice freedom in Vietnam. My grandma rents out that space and it enables her to be self sufficient.

There is no racism here, people hate each other equally
Idol em :>
I didn't even had racism in my English vocab until someone mentioned it and I searched it up
You speak very well. You helped me understand that there are so many ways to be free and in 70 years of the US i have never enjoyed any of these freedoms.
Love the vid nice location!! Angees story is so inspiring could listen to her all day. Great questions great convo!
The fact that she uses the full word Vietnam, not just 'Nam like most of ppl from Western countries, so how much respect she has to Vietnam and its ppl. Cus when foreigners talk about Vietnam, a lot of them only stop in the Vietnam war but not after that
Huge respect to this woman and ppl who go to Vietnam to make a living
I have been living in Vietnam (from ohio) for over a year and I agree with you. USA has gone to hell.
New life, new people new jerney to Vietnam birthday get away 🎉🎉🎉 can't wait..
