    My husband has been chasing gold and gems all his life so that was my introduction to gemology. The rest of what i know i gained from books and research and applying the knowledge in the field.

    Sorry Zach but as of the moment, we don't sell any of the gems we find. I have plans of selling them in the future. I need time to organize and process the gems that i want to sell. Right now, just too busy prospecting and making videos for youtube...lol. But you'll definitely find out when i start selling. All the best, Liz

    I did use a spray bottle on my very first opal trip and it did help a lot in identifying the opals. I'm glad you like the video and thank you for watching. All the best, Liz

    Current lease/claims have to have signs posted on four corners of the claim. On areas where there is no sign posted, anyone can go noodling. If there is a sign and it's out of date, then anyone can noodle in these areas as well. But we always stay clear of areas where there is signs current or not just to stay out of trouble. Some out of date leases still have their equipment around the claim. Good luck and take care.

    Hi ,there.Just by chance I was walking back from the beach, when walking past some builders sand and aggregate,when my metal detector was still on, I never had my headphones plugged in, but I saw the needle jumped. I stopped found a small meteorite 7 centimetres by 3.5 centimetres, has I picked it up .I noticed a green stone. Square and about inch and half inch long. I wasn't too sure about this stone,but I had a jeweller look at it, and it turned out just to be under 10 carats of Emerald. I was shocked 9.236 carats in total.So the following day, after finding out it was a Emerald.I went on back to find that they mended and filled in the hole and the sand and the Aggregates normally these holes are there for weeks. Alas was no more. Oh well, no rest for the wicked... G... I will have to get my niece to show you this Emerald online. I haven't got a web page or do a regular blog,but hopefully sometime in the future,you may see the fruits of me leaving my metal detector on...G... Good hunting...Since then my results of the stone came this morning, so me being pleased as punch. I found this stone eleven Weeks ago,it taken 9 weeks to receive the results,I have had it appraised,and it came back it was a "green Beryl" not an "Emerald" ,oh well £575 to £700 worth instead of £20,000 c'est la vie.First part of this message was on the 13th June 2018.the last part of this message was today the 14th June 2018...

    Could you use a water bottle with spray attachment to "wet" the ground first? I do that for various minerals here in the states and it help them to stand out...I even put a drop of baby oil in the bottle as it helps coat the rocks and give more time to the evaporation process.

      You can find small opals on Takaka Hill in Golden Bay region of Nelson province. Also, plenty of greenstone (jade) along the riverlands and coast of Westland. Some places are restricted but not the beaches. Same with gold, which can be found all through certain areas of Westland and Nelson. If you go to paydirt.co.nz you will find maps to show places that the public can fossick for gold.

    Ben E. Clement Mineral Museum houses an outstanding collection of minerals, gemstones, carvings, period journals, photographs, mining tools and other items. The collection has been visited by various authorities on minerals and is believed to be one of the finest in existence. The Ben E. Clement Mineral Museum, Inc. was formed in June 1990 to make the attraction something that would generate outside interest in the mineral and mining heritage of West Kentucky.

    I'm sorry, I really wish i could sell them. But the millions(lol) we found is still not enough for my gemstone lamp that i want to make. This took me 20 years to collect. I might have to buy some myself if we don't find some more. Maybe in the future, I'll have the chance to go to a place where one can collect them by the buckets. Then, you'll be the first one I'll sell it to...:-) If you're desperate to buy some, check online for "Rough Zircons".

    Wow you found a lot, great work there. Does finding opals have to be at a specific geographical location where conditions favor very selectively, or can I find them at any kinds of hillside cliffs?

    • @LizKreate
      @LizKreate  9 років тому +4

      Thanks for watching gtran7. Opals can only be found in certain areas specifically areas that use to be covered in water millions of years ago. As the water dries out, it leaves behind silica rich solution which gets deposited into cracks and voids forming opals. Cheers, Liz

    Liz, I can watch you for hours! But I would like to try and find some precious stones myself. I live in the US in a don't state called Connecticut. There was a small active gold mine during the 19th century, but that closed due to lack of finds. I heard the sapphires have been found in some of or streams, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Can you give me some tips on what to look for? I saw some black stones are an indicator of one of your videos. But is there anything, in general, to look for? You should write a tutorial book! I'll be first in line to buy it!! Thanks.

      @@paranormaladventureaustral1100 This is true, most snakes, poisonous or not, don't want to tangle with us--if given a chance they will ignore you or retreat. Here in the southern US, we do have one species though, that is quite aggressive--the Cottonmouth. They will literally attack you, chase you if you run from them, and are often in pairs and even small groups, depending on time of year. My Dad took us night fishing when we were young, and we had a couple of Cottonmouths actually try to sliver into the boat with us--Dad was laying about with the paddle like a madman trying to keep them out. I hear Australia has one of the most deadly species of snakes, it's a good thing they're not aggressive! Thank you for sharing that!

    I wonder if using a water spray bottle would help you better see the true color of the rocks? Or mining after a good rain....

    for what you can find ((without paying a search on property fee)) is it worth a trip from USA to australia...or would it be cheaper to just buy them online?

      Thanks for watching and commenting Veena. Unfortunately, I can't make any suggestion RE: (cheaper to visit or buy online) as it would have to depend on a lot of factors like where you'd go and how much you'll collect. But in saying that, in one of our many travels, we met a couple from Canada who was in Oz for 18 months for the sole purpose of gathering gems and been told that they have found a lot which they've sent back home. If ever you decide to come to Oz, please let me know and I might be able to give you some info as to where to go. Good luck and all the very best, Liz

      There's a lot of Australian Opals for sale on the net and with a little research, one can buy from a reputable seller or dealer. Good luck and happy hunting. Cheers, Liz
