Please note, in a follow up video I realized that I was quoted for 170 lengths of steel which is more than a tonne. I tried contacting rapid to see if they quoted me an incorrect figure but I couldn’t get through to them.
Safe Hayeven, where do you get those prices? i live in St.James and i am building a 3 storey house and i never pay those kind of money for marerials, one yard of sand including tax is $3000, one block is for $101, 1 yard of stone is $2800, buckets are cheap here, 1 ton of 1/2 inches steel is $149000, with tax. 1 ply board is for $6600. Please visit Lawson Block Factory, in Anchovy St.James. buying truck loads of sand and stones from the quarie is way, way cheaper than buying it from the hardware.

Very educational and straight forward. Thanks for helping me to overstand the cost of building materials in Jamaica. The companies in Jamaica should have discounted prices for born Jamaicans and returning residents. Small profits = more sales=attracting customers. Rastafari Logics.
Lol I used to work at a hardware store and they gave discounts but NOT on building materials. They have to buy it so expensive from the suppliers but it would’ve been nice yes

Prices increase even more since the start of the year. A sheet of ply was $3500 in January compared to now where some hardwares are asking $ 6900 per sheet.
Yes for sure. I just did some repairs and one sheet of ply cost me $5700.
If everyone can help by Sharing the cost materials they buy and where everyone can benefit. Because some places ridiculous with material cost eg ply heard my grandfather said basically 7 thousand something smh

DWL.... I added on 1 bathroom and 1 bedroom ONLY, 7x7½ & 12x14 respectively and that ran me into a little over 2 million dollars, foundation, material, tools and equipment, labour etc. Don't mek a soul fool yuh! It's not cheap!

Omg steel...it went up about 6 times since January in November I brought it for 98 grand
In a follow up video I realized that they quoted me for 170 lengths which is more than a tonne. Tried to contact them for clarification, didn’t get through.
I bought a ton yesterday. Its now $163,300. In Westmoreland. Less than a week ago it was $143,000.

Why is Cement expensive in Jamaica when they Export it all over the world? Jamaica sent several metric tonnes of cement to help rebuild Haiti after the earthquake.🤔

This was in 2021. Could be the start to a two bedroom, just a start foundation wise.
Every things gone up including crime and it hurt mostly the lower class paying People in Jamaica 🇯🇲🏝️ it not even make sense talking about wages like raise of pay because the dollar 💵 don't even value a thing!🙄
Does people use dry wall in foundation
Some persons use it here to divide bedrooms within the house but it’s not common
You should apologize to the USA for serious lies which points to miss informations about there buildings code , I know that you are a proud Jamaican like myself but please keep words positive, especially about the USA millions of people with Jamaican roots are living here, this country is not China ,the USA is not a fake builder long before the rest of the world starting to build skyscrapers the USA was building them decades before, so don't turn up your nose on the USA buildings code, I am living in the USA and have seen and understand the buildings code the foundation is the same has in Jamaica concrete and steel, in some cases drywall may be used only inside for dividing the house, most homes are built without drywall please do your home work before you speak.
Is it cheaper to buy or build?
I wouldn’t say one is definitely cheaper than the next. It comes down to your financial standing and your likes and dislikes. You can buy good fixer upper homes that are undervalued , so you can take your time and make repairs. With building you can take a slow approach which can be seen as less of a burden to some persons. However as building materials prices rise, both the cost to build and buy will go up.

@@safehayeven3273 but you can have a small house like 600 sq ft with two bedrooms or you can have a 1000 sq ft house or 1500 sq ft house and have just two bedrooms. So saying for a two bedroom house doesn’t help. Because obviously a 1500 sq ft 2 bedroom will cost more then one at 600 sq ft 2 bedroom house
