I highly recommend Jeff as a teacher! Amazingly prepared, both in terms of playing, material and technology to create a remote lesson, asks the right questions, finds the right material tailored to your goals, explains really well and generally creates a really nice environment.
Dude this was so helpful. I have my first gig with another band tomorrow night and although I’m pretty experienced I never was a solo type of drummer. And they WANT a solo as our closing song and I was freaking out about it lol. This is super helpful!
@ronsissons8994 it went great! I don't do them often (just a me thing I guess) but messing around with this and changing it up or traveling around the kit using call and response really helped! I've done it a few times over the last few gigs I've played and it went great. You got this!
@@thefaeking Right on! Yeah, I am not great at improvising around the kit for slo type stuff. I more of a locked time keeper\pocket player. Glad it went well. This should help.
@@ronsissons8994 yes just let it go! It’s hard to, and I still sound disorganized at times when I get too confident in my solo abilities LOL but it’s all a learning process and playing with timing. You’re already good at the pocket so time to learn how to break those rules tastefully! You got this
Hi, nice idea, thanks. Btw "randal" in czech means "noise" so another evidence that peoples' names and hobbies/proffesions are sometimes closely related.
This is great, thanks Jeff! I get so overwhelmed with what I see on drum videos on UA-cam. Thanks so much for helping a middle age dad refind the joy he had playing drums as a teenager by giving me something I can understand and learn!
Band wants a short solo, and I am freaking out! I am a keep the beat, short fill kind of drummer but am going to work this solo and of course admit where I got it! Thank you, Jeff Randall!!!
Thanks for this! Great reminder to keep a theme and not have to chop out the whole way through a solo. I get overwhelmed if that moment comes up for a drum solo to try to throw too much fire (that I don't have) and then my mind goes blank when coming up with ideas. Good advice here!
I'll be working on this to keep it in my back pocket.. My brain doesn't work fast enough to make it up (rather, put it together) on the spot, even though I've practiced these individual patterns a lot.
I play drums for long a time, but i always have lot dificulties build a solo.... I have learning lot exercises but then i usualy use them as a fill... I hope you share more of This ideas.... Thank you. Greettings from Portugal.
That’s got some serious groove your a legend Jeff keep to good work I’m so impressed with your understanding how this stuff is applied I got lost in solos
Another awesome video....thanks for your demo and the thought process behind it, Jeff! :) Fellow drummers/students..... I wholeheartedly recommend Jeff for online lessons.... I've seen REAL progress in my own playing!
Thanks, Jeff! This video is instructive and motivational. It is an eye opener for me to conceptualize the solo as “Call and Response”. It made me think of this thing (call and response) that I do on my cymbals in between practicing rudiments on my snare!
I love how this groove and fills are doable for most drummers. Goes to show you don't need insane chops to play a solo that's interesting and musical! Cheers!
Great Video!! I like the "Drum Patterns" you use, but I have trouble with the "Ghost Notes"...You're really good at that trick!!! I can still play the Pattern, but it loosing that extra "uphmth" missing said Ghost Notes!!! Thanks for sharing your talents with us!!!
Can you play any tool songs? If so do you think you could do some lessons? Also when you do groove lessons could you do them a little slower for us beginners too? Thanks!
nice this solo. For me it's quit difficult, but I'm training. I have one question: how do you end this solo? And also how do you start. Is that just with a groove?
Thanks man! I do indeed use Logic. Check out the Softube “Saturation” Knob. It’s a free plugin and gives the drums a bit of that ‘grit’ that’s hard to replicate in digital recording.

Simple but sounds great at a gig !!!!! Not overwhelming for the audience and still nice to listen to. Inspiring video !!! Thank you !
Simple but not easy

That was funny. 😅 Great lesson!
Why is 332 so useful and perfect! So much mileage in that underlying rhythm! Great vid as always Jeff

Amazing! Thanks for the content. 🎉
A drumsolo before an average audience (not drummers) must be understood by that audience. Great tips!
Thanks Bob! Absolutely, it’s all about communicating something to the audience after all.

For sure!
Great solo I love this
Really like the call and response concept! It helps to put some structure to the solo, which is where I usually struggle
Dude it’s so helpful! Thanks for watchin’.

Very useful. My first solo which I would like to learn. Thanks.
Great information and delivered so people can understand it. Great work!!

Nothing wrong with that 😄 Well said, Jeff. Thanks for another nice inspiration!
You're very welcome!
Very good content! Loved how you were straight to the point and conceptualised call-response. Thank you 🙏
Much appreciated!
Love it! Great breakdown of a call and answer theme, a great way to approach soloing.
I love how this groove and fills are doable for most drummers. Goes to show you don't need insane chops to play a solo that's interesting and musical! Cheers!
Yeah man, I tried to make them as classic and universal as possible. It’s more about making them sound musical and feel good!
Nicely done ✅
Sounds great 😲
Thanks Jeff! I really appreciate all the great ideas that you share with us. Great to practice and practical !🥁❤
Thanks John!

"Thank You, Jeff! "I hope all is well with you to!" Best first words I've heard to open a drumming instruction video! "I Love it!"

Thanks Tobias!
Jeff, hats off, love the content, drums sound great. Do you produce using Logic? Any tips on compression or plugins?
Thanks man! I do indeed use Logic. Check out the Softube “Saturation” Knob. It’s a free plugin and gives the drums a bit of that ‘grit’ that’s hard to replicate in digital recording.
