What do you do if the basement ceiling is not tall enough and will not give enough clearance to remove the old anode rod?

Hi, you can use a hack saw and cut it in half so it can be removed. Tape off the bottom half or have someone hold it so it doesn't slip into the tank when it is cut off.

you don't think the Teflon tape will interfere with grounding of anode rod to tank?

Don’t you have to release pressure before removing old anode rod?

Hi, yes, turn off the water to the water heater and drain the tank as shown in the video.

Hi, we put this in at a friends house, she said it made a big difference in the sulfur smell she was getting from her well water.

Did you expect that dirty water to come out of the faucet?

When you drain water from the water heater and then refill it, any debris or buildup on the bottom gets stirred up. So you usually get some cloudy water.

I installed a new water heater and black water came out of the taps. When the water pressure is turned back on, the air in the pipes shakes them, loosening the deposits in the pipes. It does not come from the water heater. Any deposits are on the bottom of the tank and would not get washed up to the hot outlet.
