I get the dislikes and wanting it to be a full on console but look at vita, psp go, ds, new 3ds they had to make entire separate hardware and a separate cartridge or disc to fit the console, they had to have memory cards or some kinda internal storage that was minimal, this allows for the most seem less unproblematic way to play your ps5 it only requires a 15megabyte connection speed for the best results meaning your ps5 that is at home with 100 megabyte speed is functional on the portal, you can literally use your phone hotspot to counter the no Wi-Fi scenario giving you the ability to play anywhere without the required hardware.

And the worst part is that you can do the same thing from your phone/tablet via their app which will let you use any headphones and saves you 200$ Edit: if you have a PS5 you probably have at least one working controller so you can just connect it to your phone instead of using the touch screen and if you want the big display just use a tablet instead of a phone
PS5 controllers are around 70 bucks so 130 dollars for a screen that connects to the PS5 natively is actually a good deal IMO, as long as the screen is any good.

@wind016 not true at all. I can play a Steam Deck in the car, on a plane anywhere really. PS Portal needs the PS5 turned on at all times and WiFi connection. So even if you tether it to your phones 5G the moment you hit a poor signal area outside you lose connection, can't play on a plane cuz wireless communication needs to be turned off.
How quickly everyone forgets that the Switch had Bluetooth but Nintendo prevented Bluetooth headsets from connecting to it. Everyone accepted it because "that's Nintendo". Thankfully they changed their minds years later. Yes, Sony should allow it from day 1, but let's not act like this is uncommon. You could save money and get a Bluetooth aux transmitter that plugs into the aux port instead of getting the way too expensive new headsets. I did this for ages with my 2009 car. Worked like a charm. Can UA-camrs stop acting like needing to be connected to the Internet to use something is a negative? How do they think we're watching their content? Steve Jobs made sure we'd all be constantly connected when the modem smartphone was introduced. There's nothing wrong with the Portal, it's not for everyone, but they did price it well at $200. A regular controller goes for $60. There's must be almost zero profit for them on this device.

@@Uragaan1 If people aren't calling them out then more and more gullible people will buy it. Most people probably assume it comes with bluetooth since the mobile devices they have bought for years have it as a standard feature.
Also some people may even assume that it supports PS5 cloud streaming since the processing is done in the cloud. So yea people with a big reach calling them out does do something. It informs the public.

I can play a Steam Deck in the car, on a plane anywhere really.
PS Portal needs the PS5 turned on at all times and WiFi connection.
So even if you tether it to your phones 5G the moment you hit a poor signal area outside you lose connection, can't play on a plane cuz wireless communication needs to be turned off.

How quickly everyone forgets that the Switch had Bluetooth but Nintendo prevented Bluetooth headsets from connecting to it. Everyone accepted it because "that's Nintendo". Thankfully they changed their minds years later. Yes, Sony should allow it from day 1, but let's not act like this is uncommon. You could save money and get a Bluetooth aux transmitter that plugs into the aux port instead of getting the way too expensive new headsets. I did this for ages with my 2009 car. Worked like a charm. Can UA-camrs stop acting like needing to be connected to the Internet to use something is a negative? How do they think we're watching their content? Steve Jobs made sure we'd all be constantly connected when the modem smartphone was introduced. There's nothing wrong with the Portal, it's not for everyone, but they did price it well at $200. A regular controller goes for $60. There's must be almost zero profit for them on this device.
WAP is called CARPLAY and it disables all your phone functions EVEN IF YOU TURN OFF BLUETOOTH!

Sony has been infamous for doing this. They made their own memory card that works for PSP.
The vita it was almost worse they were essentially micro sd cards but way more expensive
Amazingly, Sony actually went with regular M.2 SSDs for PS5 storage expansion while Microsoft went with a weird proprietary storage card.
