Fished with Bobby in 2015 we killed the YFT on the 80 he’s just keep yelling “ a lot of brown going around “ ! I think they show up brown on the sonar but we were saying it too by the the 3rd stop . He’s a nice man and runs a great operation . He’s a Legend & has family in the industry as well. Hard boat to get on the 80 always fills up quick but I highly recommend it .

Phil, I enjoyed your interviews with all the captains. Especially all the old-school skippers like Mike Reed. It brings back a lot of fond memories! Old school is a good description of Bobby and Chuck Taft, too! They're also great people, too! Thanks again for your interviews and podcast!

My last trip 3 years ago Bobby was lobbing sardines and handing the rod off to fishermen. Dang good trip. Good enough I'm back on the boat the 29th!

Bob Taft is Steven's uncle. Chuck Taft is Steven's dad! They're all great captains! It's a joy to fish on their boats!

I once hooked a 90 lb big eye on a cal star 700 m and a Calcutta 700 levelwind full o 25 lb mono I passed the rod over to Bobby after 45 mins and we found out what Bobby was made of he locked one leg over the rail locked the drag down and just put the hurt on that tuna handed me the rod at deep.color and gaffed it him self as it was my first big eye and the reel got sold fast 🤪

There used to be no sardines in our waters?? That's very interesting. I wonder where they were and why they are hear now.

Sardines seem to like a little warmer water. Cooler water will bring lots of anchovies. If this cool water pattern holds up this year, we should say more anchovies and sardines my friend. Thanks for watching and thanks for the excellent question.

The commercial boats used to over fish the sardines to the point that several boat's would sink trying to get back to port (no shit ) this was in San Pedro so I could imagine how it was everywhere else

Do you remember who it was that was responsible for refilling the fresh water tank on the Patrician when it was brand new and forgot to turn the water off and sank Spikes boat at the dock there at Davey's Locker?
Kids! That was a real pisser, well, for your dad anyway!!
