For most men football is something they enjoy away from women. Just as women do things that they enjoy together. I don’t know a single man who likes female commentators or pundits. Mens football is a mans game. The clues in the name. ‘Mens’ football

It makes no difference to me if I hear a 'good' female presenter or football commentator, but it's the ever increasing female co-commentators and pundits who are pushed to comment on the mens game like a virus that I can't stand. Emma Hayes strictly on voice has me reaching for the mute button.

I agree that the bigger picture can make for an interesting conversation and granted that the venue and time isn’t at the end of a post match press conference where you can just waffle on unchallenged unfortunately.

You’ll note that broadcasters seldom give women commentators games of any magnitude since they know it will lose them viewers. Even simple minds like yours might be able to grasp that?

Massive respect for what Emma Hayes has achieved and I think she's one of the few women who's commentary on the men's game is excellent. I also think a large portion of the men are poor too.
But I think she's deflected to general tired stories of inequalities here. The doctor / patient analogy was bizarre and didn't make sense. There's no doubt there's been an aggressive drive to get women into "expert" commentary roles (not presenting) for a sport they've never played nor been involved in at coaching level.
So every male commentator have always played or coached the game?

Aside from the fact that Men's Football is different, more entertaining, more popular, and overall much superior compared to Women's Football I do however agree that Barton went overboard with it the wrong way. 😐

I don’t agree with you but a fine comment to make and you are entitled to your opinion of course. You didn’t make any misogynistic or sexist comments towards women so most people are not going to suggest you are that. Everyone should be more like this, free to have their opinion without dragging others down.
Do you think Emma Hayes as a woman who has never played but is an extremely successful coach and developer is not entitled to commentate male football? Even though she clearly knows what she is talking about. Have all the male pundits out there had the experience of playing football at a high and successful level. Is that the criteria?
@@seaofserendipity for me it’s not a blanket dislike of all female pundits but there are too many that offer no insight except the staggering obvious and continually get things wrong so as Joey says they seem to be there to fill a quota or an agenda but I also don’t like that we all including top level footballers have to pretend that women’s football is at the same level as men’s because it’s not in any way conceivable
Where I disagree with Joey Barton is that according to his logic John Motson shouldn’t have been a commentator as he never played professional football. I don’t think we should appoint women to tick a box, but if someone as brilliant as Motty comes along, but happens to be female; it would be silly not to give them a job because of what’s between their legs. If someone’s a good commentator, they are a good commentator.

If sport or football really was equal, there would not be Womens/Mens Tennis, Mens/Women Swimming, Mens/Womens Football. They are separated simply because of biology. There is no way Alex Scott would survive a full blown Roy Keane tackle. If the FA really believed in equality the men and women would be playing in the same team, but even they know that cannot be physically possible.

Women as commentators do ruin the experience. As pundits i dont care as most pundits regardless of gender are shite but there is something about a womans voice commentating over a football match which makes me hit the mute button. Then again Owen as commentator has the same impact

I won’t watch a game or even highlights if there’s a female commentator. Can’t stand it. My choice as a customer
I think emma hayes always speaks very well, and is clearly very knowledgeable on football. She is one of the women i enjoy listening to! But her use of the current buzzwords male privilege and misogyny are really disappointing from her! If a woman doesn't get what she wants these days they blame male privilege and call men misogynistic. This is about meritocracy, but women like her have to try and shut the conversation down with accusations of misogyny. Ive lost some respect for her!
Women are no more qualified to speak on mens football than retired players from division 2 and that is a generous statement. "The laws of the game are the same". Similar crowds & interest. No need for the expert insight. I like Emma, she's ok but her loss from the punditry circuit isnt going to be as impactful as Gary Neville. It's not privilege, else a former division 2 players would be acceptable. Like Barton said, it's tokenism.
