They are beautiful but since I made this video the tour has changed a bit and you don't see as much of the gardens as before.
This is a very stunning site, I hope I can visit again when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
When I grow up, I want to be Pope so that I can live in Castel Gandopho. Lol Power!

Thanks for the update. My motive for seeking lunch in the garden was really in the hope of getting out of the golf buggy a bit. Otherwise the tour of the gardens seems a bit rushed and last time we felt a bit stuck in the vehicle. This time I’m going to see if there are any tours on foot (mid May). I don’t see any to book, but I know that they must exist because I could see pedestrian groups going around last time (2022, October). You do very good work for us in publishing all of this.
My sources inform me that there will no longer be visits to the gardens the way you see them in this video. There will be visits to the papal palace and I think a visit to a much smaller garden, but you won't be able to go all around the gardens as we once did. That's why I say I'd need to make a new video at some point. Thanks for your comments, and I hope you'll get to enjoy this visit regardless of the upcoming changes!
My understanding is that it is no longer a summer residence when Pope Francis turned it into a public museum .
Thank you for your comment. You are correct, it's no longer a summer residence as Pope Francis doesn't go there in the summer. Lucky for us it is now a visitable museum!
Next Pope will live in Castle Gandopho during the summer. Pope Francis didn't want, but future Pope will want. Pope Benedict XVI was coming here even after retirement as pope

Would love to see an update on this with the train tour from the Vatican to Castel Gandolfo. It is available on the Vatican website.
I do have a page about this on the website. When I filmed it, the train from the Vatican was not running as it was during Covid and a lot of things were not running normally yet.

Thanks for the quick guide to Castel Gandolfo. It's so difficult to get the right tour as their descriptions are so unclear. Seems like an independent day trip is just as good once we book a train ticket.

It's my understanding that now, the visit includes mostly the papal palace and only a small part of the gardens. I don't believe they offer lunch as part of the tour anymore, but the town of Castel Gandolfo is lovely and it would be even nicer to eat there, in my opinion.
