In my small town, some Chinese people took over the local supermarket and they soon started to be arrogant towards people shopping. But guess that backfired, because it's now a empty shop. There are also plenty of Chinese plastic fantastic superstores and if things falls apart, as they do more than not. Guess what. No guaranties. I Don't have anything against Chinese people but don't like there way of establishing business and not following local legislation. Take for example decathlon, mostly Chinese manufactured products. Bought a surfboard and you can surf on it for two months and then return it if don't like it or if it breaks in some vital areas they will replace or give your money back up to years. See that's the way to do business, even if it's made in China.

In Portugal chinese businesses dont pay tax (i believe its 100% free) for the first 5 years, well at the end they close and open with a new name, been many years, and many years ago they had to close the underwear factory that my mum worked for 34 years because it was quality but chinese items were much cheaper in their sell everything shops, i like the restaurants.
Just to add, a lot of money that those shops make, disappears every day, is put in the bank and not long after cant be tracked.

Gas stations, restaurants, and other small businesses are often tax free. In the midwest we have many people from the middle east/Northern Africa do the same thing, the problem is when long term investments aren't made and it's passed on, so underground tanks just rot and they sell lead infused gas.

Generally speaking, bribery of any kind ultimately does not pay. Temporarily it leads to a very good win-win deal. But ultimately, at some point or the other, both the giver and the taker end in sorrow. Anybody with an iota of common sense knows that when visitors of a host country show their air, the citizens run riot. The verbal support by way of statements is not enough.
