Tommy James of The Shondells had a lot to do with this group. He co-wrote the song and gave it to Alive ‘n’ Kicking after the Shondells broke up. Alive ‘n’ Kicking almost recorded Crystal Blue Persuasion in 1968 but Tommy kept it. You can certainly hear his orchestration in “Tighter” I am so glad you showcased the stereo version. It also sounded fantastic on our end! Tommy loved studio technology.
I don't remember if you've done it , but White Bird by It's a Beautiful Day is another 70s song with a peaceful, easy feeling. Its one of those songs that can really take you to a different place if you're in the right mood.
I never knew Tommy James wrote this. Thank you. It does sould like a song that he and the Shondells could have done. And the picture of the 45 label Roulette says it all.
Met my wife in 1969. We got together in 1970 and my wife always associated this song with us. Unfortunately I lost her in 2022 (after 52 years together) and this song brings tears to my eyes.
I like the way Jay over the 3 years points to a headphone side on some songs. Stereo was new in the 60's and the placing of voice or instruments on just one side was big and more pronounced. The Beatles did it a lot!
1970 was such a great year for Pop music, so many great songs. The songs of that year have a unique feel unlike any other year of the 70's. Many of which have somewhat of a Gospel feel to them.
You have very good musical taste. 68, 69 and 70 are my favorite yrs for music. Probably 68 is my favorite of all time. I'm listening to music since 58.
Just discovered the radio in 1970, LOVE this song. Thanks for the memory! You've already reacted to most of my early '70's favorites, except for 'Everybody Plays the Fool' by Main Ingredient. The lead singer was Cuba Gooding Sr. Or you could go back to Steppenwolf and the song 'Born to be Wild' , which is a song that ALL OF us old folks know. LOL! Considering what happened today, our beautiful country could use some more smiles and LESS hate. Blessed be, everybody.
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite eras, roughly 1969 through 1971. This one is a happy-maker, a one-hit wonder for this band. Your headphone experience might have something to do with originally mono vs stereo recordings or how the sound engineer recorded it. I'm not sure but I've experienced it many times. Blessings!❤
One of those '70s songs that I'll never get tired of listening to. It is just sooooo good in every way! Please check out another great Tommy James song that hit the Top 40 performed by a different artist, "Sugar On Sunday" by The Clique!
Another one hit wonder from the 70s you will probably like is “Life is a Rock, But the Radio Rolled Me” by Reunion. Fun, quirky song. Because how fast it is sung you may want to listen to a video with the lyrics.
This song has always gave me chills! Love this song so much groove and rhythm The instruments are emotionally felt, and you when you put the singing harmony together with it it’s mind-boggling put you in a good mood
A great song from 1970 written by Tommy James. I can't understand why this was a one hit wonder. Always dug this great song. Tommy I believe wrote Sugar on Sunday for the Clique in 69, another great song. Tommy is very talented a very good singer and songwriter. Still performing in 2024, my friend saw him still sounds very good. He's from Pittsburgh PA or a town near there.
Y’all have lots more artists to discover from each decade! Still waiting for you to get to a group that “owned” 1968: Gary Puckett & The Union Gap; “Lady Willpower”, “Young Girl”, “Woman, Woman”. Also, you could revisit Jay & The Americans; “Come A Little Bit Closer”.👍👍👍👍
Such a great song - I remember them playing this the summer of 1970 on the speakers at our town's swimming pool. Such good memories of splashing around with my friends in the California sun! Funny how a song can bring back a memory and place like that.
Soft, easy flowing music? Checkout "Out in The Country" by Three Dog Night. One of the crowd favorites at each of the 5 concerts I saw them at the Fair Grounds Arena in OKC from 1969 to 1974. I'm really disappointed I've not seen the awesome drum solo their drummer performed in each of their concerts. The guy had his finger taped to limit damage playing drums with his hands. Three Dog was amazing!
Before the breathin air is gone, before the sun is just a bright spot in the nighttime...Great suggestion. I'd forgotten about it. Let's hope they choose it soon 😊🎵
Back to High School again 1969-1972 back then this song was really groovin' 👌😅 Peace✌️ and Love❤️ your 70 year old forever hippie Gary😊 the two of you are getting real groovy 😂😅😂
Jay and Amber, Love how you were grooving to this exceptional one hit wonder from 1970. Alive & Kicking took the song all the way to #7. Another great one hit wonder is Hurricane Smith, who took his Ohio Babe, What Would You Say? to #4 in 1972😊. I think you’ll love his voice and the horns!
B o Diddley was well aware of and understood the power of Shakers! He had a dedicated maraca player in his band. Instruments like that (Tambourines, scrapers, shekere, etc) are felt more than heard and make even the most simple rhythm more lively.
Song has Tommy James smeared all over it!! I know that Tommy wrote it for his friends in the group "Alive and Kickin" and that TJ performs it himself from time to time. You are right; this is the quintessential "early 70's" sound!
Amber, you and Jay have discovered the fun of listening to old school stereo recordings with headphones! Some were vocals on one channel and instruments on the other...it was like the original karaoke..you could sing along with the music without the vocals
Yes! "People Gotta Move" is an underrated dance classic. Those keyboards created a unique sound, unlike anything else out there at that time. And of course Gino always had a terrific vocal delivery. "I Just Wanna Stop" was his biggest hit, a powerful slow burn ballad.
Fantastic choice! This era produced a ton of great music when I was 10, 11 years old. Another one is," Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again ", by The Fortunes.
This is such a pure & easy song, it is so great and it reminds me a lot of my father [RIP] who had this album on 8-track and would play it in our station wagon while driving down Malibu, CA. during my younger years [I was 8 years old when this song came out] such a wonderful time to be young, I miss that time in my life.
I love everything 70's. I haven't heard y'all do Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose. Popular in early 70's. Treat Her Like A Lady, came out in '71. Too Late to Turn Back now, came out in '72. I know you will love them. 😘
Such a great song from 1970, right after Tommy James and the Shondells pretty much enjoyed their last hurrah on the pop charts. Someone posted that Tommy James wrote this. I didn't know that. I thought he produced it, though, for Alive and Kicking.
I heard this song on the radio and that week I went to the neighborhood Record Store and bought the 45 single record for 50 cents. I played it 7 days a week for 4 months.....I played it over and over. Absolutely Love this band....and then they broke up and I only had one song from them.....this song!!! Great reactions y'all!!!
Suggestions- I’m a Girl Watcher by the O’Kaysons, Tighten Up by Archie Bell and the Drells, Sugar Sugar by the Archie’s (your kids will love it), Come on Down to My Boat Baby by Every Mother’s Son, Hello, I Love You by the People…
Wow!! I had no clue what song this was, and then it started!! I haven't heard this for sooo long, what happy memories you guys bring when I least expect it. 👏
Here's a great early 70's One-Hit Wonder for ya's: "Thunder and Lightning" by Chi Coltrane. Very high energy with Janis vibes. She did become a big star in Europe though.
I was in elementary school in Fayetteville NC when this song was released. Even as a small child I loved this song and still do. I'm 63 and still have my original 45.
I used to dance to this with my first girlfriend... I was 15 or so and we always responded to each other when the song said, 'Hold on, now just a little bit tighter now, baby'! It's such an easy song to groove to!!!!
Yay!! A song I requested too. I love this song!! I don't know of any other "Alive & Kickin' " songs, but I'll suggest some songs from 1970. "Didn't I Blow Your Mind" by The Delphonics, and "Love on a Two Way Street" by The Moments. Thanks, J & Amber. 🧡❤
This group featured Bruce Sudano who later became Donna Summer's husband from 1980 until her death in 2012. He co-founded this group and then went on to form Brooklyn Dreams who famously sang with Donna on "Heaven Knows." He co-wrote many songs with Donna. He also wrote songs that were recorded by Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire. This was a fun song.
Here's a fun fact: Donna Summer's co-writer/husband of many decades/widower, Mr. @BruceSudanoMusic , was a part of this band. This song is one of my all time favorites. Had the 45 when I was a kid.
I was born in 1977 and before I was 3 years old I had a few favorite songs already. This was my dads music, and I loved these songs. So, the 3 I will share, or a little different from these artist. But I still like them as an adult, and these 3 songs might be good to have your kids react to them with you too, since you said something about that awhile ago. I will add a 4th song too. My number 1 favorite song was by Dr Hook and came out in 1976. Dr. Hook - Jungle to the Zoo My second favorite song was by The Who and came out in 1966. The Who - Boris The Spider My 3rd song, Which almost every kid likes, by Harry Nilsson came out in 1971. Harry Nilsson - Cocunut and this one just because well I just looked and you already reacted to it Puff the Magic Dragon.
They are a local NY band. They played at a couple of wedding I attended. They played covers along with this hit. The leader Pepe Cardona passed away in 2020 from pancreatic cancer so I believe the band is now gone. RIP Pepe.
The drums & bass carry this tune along at such a great pace. It was the perfect summer song, driving down a California freeway with the radio blaring. It didn't get much better than that.
ROB SQUAD, if you want some more music that has really cool headphone separation then go and do early early Beatles!! They had some really cool vocal separation that you hear real well with headphones!!!❤
Nice! More Tommy James and the Shondells would be nice. "My Baby Does the Hanky Panky." Yeah, it's a simple song but it sure got us going in High School!
From the 70's one of my fav albums was Dan Fogelberg's "Souvenirs". It was on my turntable every weekend. Beautiful orchestration, songs with a moody, dreamlike quality, just perfection to me. I'd suggest the title track "Souvenirs", "There's A Place In The World For A Gambler" and "Someone's Been Telling You Stories".
Just found you. So glad you are here to be open to all music as we all should be. I am Hispanic (not that it matters) but you two prove that music is what matters, not race, not gender, just beautiful music. Thank you for being real.
We had THE BEST music growing up in the 60s, 70s, 80s ... This is still one of my all-time favorite songs! Love you guys, especially when it comes to 'reaction' videos. P.S. they are probably one-hit-wonders.
Summers at the beach with portable radios playing this song growing up in the 70s.
Love!
This group played at my niece, Darlene’s wedding ! After they had this big hit
Cool
That is so cool 😎!!!!
Played at my cousins wedding in Staten Island.
@@VincentManiscalco I bet Darlene was the coolest kid on the block after that!
One of my all-time favorites. Always crank it up to 11 !!!!!!
This one goes to 11.
Thank you for the insight into the origins of this amazing song.
That explains the sound, it has a Shondells sound to it.
I don't remember if you've done it , but White Bird by It's a Beautiful Day is another 70s song with a peaceful, easy feeling. Its one of those songs that can really take you to a different place if you're in the right mood.
Absolutely. Great AOR song.
YES!
70's were the best! I consider myself lucky livin my teens through that decade.
I was raised with this music. Im grateful my parents had good taste in music.
Written by Tommy James.
I learned something new today. Also saw him in concert. Incredible show.
I never knew Tommy James wrote this. Thank you. It does sould like a song that he and the Shondells could have done. And the picture of the 45 label Roulette says it all.
Now we need some Dizzy
Dang that makes so much sense! Thanks for the info!
Written and produced and later Tommy James recorded his own superior version.
Met my wife in 1969. We got together in 1970 and my wife always associated this song with us. Unfortunately I lost her in 2022 (after 52 years together) and this song brings tears to my eyes.
As soon as you hear the first few notes of the song your back to that time and you remember where you were when you used to hear played on the radio
I only wish this song was about 75 minutes long.
Riight?!?!?!👍🏻
It usually is with me because I repeat it 50 times whenever I play it!!❤❤
The song is to short for me. I love this song. I'm 65 so brings back memories.
I feel the same way about the song "Over You" by Gary Puckett And The Union Gap. Such a great ballad that ends far too soon. 😊
ua-cam.com/video/p19Cxb5gK_k/v-deo.html 12min.. i looped it for 2 days this week :)
The male singer was Pepe Cardona Pepe passed away in 2020. He used to play concerts in Marine Park Brooklyn NY. I saw Alive n Kickin summer 2019
Pepe was good people
I didn't recognize the title of the song. But as soon as it started playing, I'm like, OH YEAH!! Love this song!!
I like the way Jay over the 3 years points to a headphone side on some songs. Stereo was new in the 60's and the placing of voice or instruments on just one side was big and more pronounced. The Beatles did it a lot!
I could kiss the person who requested this song!! It’s one of my favorites. Thanks for the reaction.

All I can say is WOW!! One of my favorite songs from the 70's. It's a shame they never had another hit songs after this one.
This just transported me back to my childhood. I was 7 and remember this song well.
Blessings!❤
Another forgotten one hit wonder from that time period is "Toast and Marmalade With Tea", by the group Tin Tin.
Wow! I forgot all about this song! I can't believe how I still remember all the words though. What a great era of music to be a teenager 👍❤
Haven't heard this in this century! Thanks for giving me a blast from my past.
One of those '70s songs that I'll never get tired of listening to. It is just sooooo good in every way! Please check out another great Tommy James song that hit the Top 40 performed by a different artist, "Sugar On Sunday" by The Clique!
1970. I was seventeen, in love for the first time, and remember this song on the radio airwaves. Loved the chorus!
This song has always gave me chills! Love this song so much groove and rhythm
Real Golden Oldie! I'm sure nearly everyone in the '70s listening to Rock stations knows this one! Great Choice You Guys! :)
Another one hit wonder from the 70s you will probably like is “Life is a Rock, But the Radio Rolled Me” by Reunion. Fun, quirky song. Because how fast it is sung you may want to listen to a video with the lyrics.
Yeah, that’s a forgotten gem. ✌️
Definitely!0 I have suggested it once before myself. I think Jay and Amber would really enjoy the musical history tour.
I suggested it too. I think Jay and Amber would get a real kick out of that one.
As a teenager in the 70’s, roller skating always had the best music.
This song was always on the playlist.
This song has always gave me chills! Love this song so much groove and rhythm
The instruments are emotionally felt, and you when you put the singing harmony together with it it’s mind-boggling put you in a good mood
Slow dance time. Another good one: Love Can Make You Happy by Mercy. Same year.
I was going to suggest Love Can Make you Happy by Mercy also!
Summer of 70. 13. Years old. Loved this song. Best summer of my childhood
I was six years old that summer.
Mine was 72 being a 70s brat i was 12 years young living in Kodiak Alaska we had the PERFICT summer and so many huge memories with my family
Everyone that loves this, we have a shared experience now

I do think this song feels like the amazing 70s. I was only 10 years old when this song came out and I have loved it ever since. 👍♥️♥️♥️
I seen this group at a toys for tots benefit concert. One of the best acts there at the time.
Before the breathin air is gone, before the sun is just a bright spot in the nighttime...Great suggestion. I'd forgotten about it. Let's hope they choose it soon 😊🎵
I'm 63 years in and still discovering new music.
Tighter,Tighter was a one hit wonder. The group disbanded soon after this hit in about 1972 and reunited in about 76 but has had no other hits
I had that entire "Super Hits Of The 70's: Have A Nice Day" collection on CD
I still have that collection. It's mostly one (or two) hit wonders from the 70's. Lot's of great songs.
Wow! Haven’t heard this in ages! I was 12 years old in 1970. I had 3 older siblings and this was some of their music I was exposed to😁
Back to High School again 1969-1972 back then this song was really groovin' 👌😅 Peace✌️ and Love❤️ your 70 year old forever hippie Gary😊 the two of you are getting real groovy 😂😅😂
I'm a forever hippie too! ☮✌
One of my supervisors used to follow these guys around like they were the stones..(lol )cause she was in love with them.
Lol
Jay and Amber, Love how you were grooving to this exceptional one hit wonder from 1970. Alive & Kicking took the song all the way to #7. Another great one hit wonder is Hurricane Smith, who took his Ohio Babe, What Would You Say? to #4 in 1972😊. I think you’ll love his voice and the horns!
Love love love this song. Great summer memories. That’s what music does.
a fantastic song- still a favorite to this day!!
This is like one of my all time favorite songs ✌🤩😊👍 The album cover with them in the water was cool too 🌊🌊🌊
The horns and that fuzzy guitar simply melt into your brain. Kind of song that makes you glad you have ears.
One of my favorite songs from the late 60s I believe this was a one hit wonder, but it was one of the best one hit wonders❤😊
1970
It's up there for sure.
B o Diddley was well aware of and understood the power of Shakers! He had a dedicated maraca player in his band. Instruments like that (Tambourines, scrapers, shekere, etc) are felt more than heard and make even the most simple rhythm more lively.
Used to see them all the time, every Thursday night, at Red Eagle Saloon/ Bronx, N.Y. . Pepe passed away several years ago.
They played our neighborhood reunions in the Bronx, once at Manhattan College and then in Gaelic Park. Good times!
Song has Tommy James smeared all over it!! I know that Tommy wrote it for his friends in the group "Alive and Kickin" and that TJ performs it himself from time to time. You are right; this is the quintessential "early 70's" sound!
One of the founding members of Alive N Kickin was Bruce Sudano who was married to to Donna Summer
Oh wow, that's cool!!!! 👍🏼
Absolutely a great song from a great era in music. Brings back great memories for this old man. Thank you guys for what you're doing
.
Amber, you and Jay have discovered the fun of listening to old school stereo recordings with headphones! Some were vocals on one channel and instruments on the other...it was like the original karaoke..you could sing along with the music without the vocals
Alive and Kicking- at this stage in life it's my favorite phrase.
Omg you have picked my very favorite songs
GINO VANELLI -" I Just Wanna Stop " (1978)(For Your Love). VIDEO A MUST HEAR SONG and also " PEOPLE GOTTA MOVE " 1974 Groovy Rock Classics 🎹🎸🎶 🔥
Yes! "People Gotta Move" is an underrated dance classic. Those keyboards created a unique sound, unlike anything else out there at that time. And of course Gino always had a terrific vocal delivery. "I Just Wanna Stop" was his biggest hit, a powerful slow burn ballad.
Great memories with this song!
"Ma Belle Amie" by The Tee Set, was released the same year as "Tighter, Tighter"
Fantastic choice! This era produced a ton of great music when I was 10, 11 years old. Another one is," Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again ", by The Fortunes.
So cool, one of my favorite songs. Thank you Jay and Amber.
Composed by Tommy "Crystel Blue Persuasaion" James for his label-mates Alive 'n' Kickin'

Great Song, Brings back Good Memories.
One of my favorites! ❤
You might also want to check out White Bird from the group It's A Beautiful around the same time period. Also, It's Nature's Way from Spirit.
Wow!! I had no clue what song this was, and then it started!! I haven't heard this for sooo long, what happy memories you guys bring when I least expect it. 👏
I love this record. A real fave. I think on this version the middle guitar solo was shortened a little.
We used to see them play every Friday night @ Wilson’s Garage in Westhampton, NY.
It has to be around 50 years since I've heard this---forgot all about it. Thanks
ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS OF ALL TIME
I used to dance to this with my first girlfriend... I was 15 or so and we always responded to each other when the song said, 'Hold on, now just a little bit tighter now, baby'!

The Who - Boris The Spider
My 3rd song, Which almost every kid likes, by Harry Nilsson came out in 1971.

ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA - " The Diary Of Horace Wimp " 70s GROOVIN' ROCK CLASSICS another one of ELO's famous songs w/COOL JAMMIN' MUSIC 🎻🎹🎸🔥🎶
The drums & bass carry this tune along at such a great pace. It was the perfect summer song, driving down a California freeway with the radio blaring. It didn't get much better than that.
1970 was an awesome year for music as this song & everyother song from '70 shows, another from '70 is," Up Around The Bend" by CCR, youll love it!👍✌️
ROB SQUAD, if you want some more music that has really cool headphone separation then go and do early early Beatles!! They had some really cool vocal separation that you hear real well with headphones!!!❤
I used to go to a club called Jimmy Byrnes in NYC every Friday night around 1980 an Alive N Kickin' was the house band!
Nice! More Tommy James and the Shondells would be nice. "My Baby Does the Hanky Panky." Yeah, it's a simple song but it sure got us going in High School!

Great positive and expansive classic! Another one is Can You Feel It by Bill Amesbury from 1976.
Glad when you 2 get back to some funky funk again from the 70's. "Dusic" by Brick is an awesome one to start with.
One of my all-time favorite songs from my teen years! I'm so happy you reacted to it finally.
Perfect example of some of the upbeat vibe from the very early ‘70’s.
Great tune. Been awhile since hearing this one. Nice alternate vibe to the real world just now.
You have done one Paul Revere and Raiders song. You should listen to Kicks, Hungry, Good Thing, and others.
Yes, I'm waiting for them to react to one of their songs. I don't believe they've done any of theirs yet.
@@57doodoo They did Indian Reservation.
