I'm an old af woman and I just LOVE watching you (and other young reactors) listening to this music for the first time! I heard EW Group for the first time when I was a teenager! IMO no one can compare to the talent and creativity from the artists of "my" generation!
Agree 100%. I was a teen in the 70's. I can't even list how many concerts I went to. Saw them all. Lucky us. Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" in 1973 took me to another dimension. Bowie also took me on a trip. So many more. We lived at concerts since tickets were about $18. Wouldn't trade it for the world. ✌🌻🌻
Along with the synthesizer, saxophone and drums, Edgar also worked the cameras, the ticket booth, the concession stand, popped popcorn, and served drinks in between instruments lol
Edgar Winter and his brother Johnny (Who unfortunately has passed.) we're musical geniuses! Two albinos who couldn't stay out in the sun much, so stayed inside learning to play multiple instruments and became master musicians! See that piano/synthesizer around his neck? Edgar Winter is the pioneer of that which affectionately became known as the "Keytar!" Check out the live version of "Tobacco Road" with both Edgar and Johnny! The vocals will blow you away!
I was so lucky to go to school with Johnny and Edgar Winter. Played bass with them in the early years. Looking back they lead the way to music along with a few others. Thanks for sharing them, makes my day!!!
Lucky? I’d say. Every musician in my school was either not serious or really stoned most of the time. Like when they were awake. lol. You actually played with them a while? That’s a cool story to tell. So sad we lost Johnny but I did get to see him play and I saw Edgar with Rick Derringer in around 1975 and what a show. I didn’t know until fairly recently that it was actually Ronnie Montrose on “They only come out at night.” Another amazing musician (RIP). I’m thrilled to see some folks from this generation hearing some of these great songs and bands. So much different now, not saying anything bad about today’s music, but I’m still learning to play stuff from the 60s-80s. In fact I was sitting here (attempting) to learn this song when I saw this video come up. One of my favorite live performances of Frankenstein. Awesome
I saw the winter gruop in concert back then. 1st up was Rick Derringer with his own band, Then Brother Johnny with his band, then Edgar. After that they all got together for an amazing end.
in my opinion, the late Johnny Winter ( R.I.P. ) was the greatest blues guitarist of our time, electric and acoustic......he was and his bro, Edgar, is albino from Texas........
I saw Edgar play twice at the Belly Up in Solana Beach CA back around the late 80s, early 90s maybe. I was in jr high when Frankenstein hit the air waves and we absolutely loved it. 15+ years later when I saw him live on stage in a small club, it blew my mind that he was playing all those instruments. What a show. I never knew he did all that. Such a talent. I saw Johnny play there too once. I love Blues, but Johnny was a bit more of a Blues purist than I was a fan of, but Edgar kept me thoroughly entertained both times I saw him.
That was live, in front of an audience. Blow away huh? Edgar Winter has many more songs you should hit, some with this group, and some with his brother Johnny Winter. Check out Tobacco Road with Edgar and Johnny Winter. Edgar sings some amazing blues on that one. BTW, the guitarist here was Rick Derringer, who had a big hit on his own called Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo.
*YOU WONT READY FOR THIS!!!* Imagine how people felt when this came out in '73! The Winter Bros were PHENOMS!!! Check out Johnny Winter when you get a chance!

Their other hit song from the same album is Free ride. One of the guitarists-Rick Derringer would have a rockin solo hit next year titled Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo-Rick was also in the 60s band-the McCoys who had a number one hit called Hang On sloopy. the other guitarist Dan Hartman would have unbelievably a disco hit in 1979 titled Instant replay.
I read a comment about Edgar& Johnny...a guy that went to school w/them said due to lack of pigment, their hair, skin+eyes were so pale that they BOTH were considered Legally blind. So from poor eye sight & staying inside, they became gifted in Hearing. And we can testify to their gifts of SOUNDS! I agree with the majority of comments: TOBBACO ROAD w/both brothers CANT BE MATCHED!! 🤯 It will DEFINATELY blow your mind👍🏻Love love love your reactions. Takes me back to my "first" time(s) hearing their songs. 🎶🎵🔥⚡
Yep! Edgar Winter on keyboards and other instruments, Rick Derringer on Guitar, Dan Hartman on bass guitar, and Chuck Ruff on Drums... Dan Hartman and Chuck Ruff have passed on. They were great musicians. They didn't stay together that long. Most went their own separate ways. But the time they were together, they made awesome music... I remember living in B'ham Al. as a teenager my first time hearing them. That sound they had was fire... I'm a young brother down there at that time and everybody's rocking to them no matter where you came from... They did an album before that too that was good. It's called, Edgar Winter's (Road Work) and it's live. Got some great sounds on it. Check it out!!! And others as well. Edgar had a brother named, "Johnny Winter!" An awesome guitarist, he passed in 2014. RIP Johnny. He could lay down some blues too. Those brothers are very talented. And those other guys are too. Rock Derringer was successful as well. Awesome sounds young man. 💯💯🔥🔥. I still listen to them at the present time✌️👍
You have almost certainly heard the synthesizer Edgar Winter is playing before. It's an ARP 2600, connected to the keyboard by a long cable. Ben Burtt used an ARP 2600 for making R2D2's voice in Star Wars and for "ark" sound effects in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Loved your reaction to it!
Edgar Winter could literally play all the instruments on any given rock stage. I have seen him live and it was just as incredible as this performance. Also, he invented that keyboard he is playing, so he could be in the forefront of the stage rather than in the background like most keyboard players. Pure genius!
Edgar Winter is one of those musical geniuses that just lives and breathes music. He also sings, plays guitar and can play a full drum set as well as any drummer out there. He and his brother Johnny both have albinoism, that's why he's so pale, he's not ill. I believe if you gave him a paper plate, a plastic cup and a straw he could create music. I saw Edgar Winter in Dallas way back in '78 with special guests, which turned out to be incredible. Steve Lukather, Neil Donnel, Eric Burdon and a relatively unknown Stevie Ray Vaugn. The Steve Miller Band finished the night and everyone came out for a finale, House of The Rising Sun. I don't think any concert has ever topped that one for me.
Eger Winters has that effect on people. Slack jawed and wondering what you just saw. And you haven't heard him sing. Ck out "Tabacco road" live... his brother Johnny plays lead. R.I.P.
Had this cranked in the basement in the 70s Almost brought a tear. Damm those were the good old days. Long hair, ripped jeans, crappy weed and a girlfriend from the trailer park. Nice
Had the pleasure of seeing Edgar and his group perform three different times, once at around the time this was made... in a very small venue, the Union Bar in Minneapolis, only a few hundred people at most... we were lucky to have seats not six feet from the stage, which was only elevated a foot or two off the floor, a very close and intimate setting... and I can attest to the fact that they played perfectly tight live, might as well have been listening to a studio recording, as far as how well they played together, not an ounce of slop in their musicianship. Edgar was a true virtuoso on several instruments and it was an amazing thing to behold.
this is the edgar winter group. edgar is the keyboard player with the white hair with the legendary rick derringer on lead guitar. saw these guys in 74 at one of our local music bars that only held 300 people and you could stand 10 feet away from them . rick was in a very popular band called THE McCOYS in the 60's and also played with edgar's brother johnny winter in the group JOHNNY WINTER AND. kickass stuff. edgar had a band before this one called EDGAR WINTER'S WHITE TRASH. gotta love that name. here is a song from that album called '' i've got news for you'. one of the best blues songs you have ever heard and saxophinist jerry lacroix really shows off his gritty gruff blues voice. if you just heard the song without knowing it was him you would not guess in a million years that this was a white boy singing it. he blows it up : ua-cam.com/video/NDtRdojr_Fs/v-deo.html
@@corilia9529 glad i could introduce you to something new - or should i say old - and awesome. still got the original vinyl in flawless condition. bought it new in '71. 18 years old with my life in front of me. can't even see it in my rear view now ! edgar was a man with many musical faces and unfortunately 'frankenstein' was his only song to get mainstream airplay besides 'free ride'. this album 'they only come out at night' was from '72 and had a couple of more songs that should have been major hits and i will leave the links in case you never heard them. 'autumn ' is a heartbreakingly beautiful tune and 'round and round' is just a great song period. autumn : ua-cam.com/video/NIHeLafUPas/v-deo.html round and round : ua-cam.com/video/xcvDGQ2o8Og/v-deo.html
Edgar Winters White Trash group had a live album "Roadwork" that set the world on fire with funky blues, gospel and rock n roll the way it should be done. Must listen! His Brother Johnny and this guitarist Rick Derringer absolutely shred. Horns kill it. Vocals like never done before, What a jam album! I got my funky stank face from that album!!
The most overlooked and one of the most underrated bands in Rock History. They were all master musicians and 20 years ahead of their time. So innovative and original. I was fortunate enough to be a teenager in the 1970's and got to see them live in Michigan where they toured regularly.
I just subscribed to your channel November 26. I’m an older woman 1955 but I do agree we had the best music back then. It’s so fun to see this again through young reactioner’s eyes. It’s like seeing it new all over again. THE BEST!!
Love the brothers, Edgar and Johnny. Only albino brothers stars that I know of. This song was one of my favorite instrumentals of the the time, and free ride is another favorite. Johnny Winter his elder brother went strictly into blues and produced 3 albums for the great muddy waters. He is inducted into the blues hall of fame. He and Edgar made their debut on television when they were ten and twelve on a kids show. Their father was from Mississippi and played sax, guitar and piano. They are from Beaumont, Texas. Johnny died in 2014 in Switzerland. Go check him out and do a reaction for us. 😎
This live version of this song is a total experience. It blew me away the first time I saw it. Edgar Winter is very talented & plays many instruments including keyboards, saxophone & timbales. The title "Frankenstein" refers he fact that the original recording of the song was much longer than the final version & it required numerous edits to shorten it. So they spliced together many different parts.
You may have noticed that Edgar's an albino like his brother, guitarist Johnny. As youths they lived in Texas and couldn't spend a lot of time out in the sunshine, so they just stayed inside and jammed out with each other. Johnny could beat a six string to death. I saw Edgar in 1981 in a movie theatre that had been converted into a club, so it wasn't that big of a place. Since his skin has no pigmentation it changed to match whichever color the lights were. They forevermore shucked the corn, for 90 or so minutes, then finally he looked out and howled; "TIME FOR ME TO UNLEASH MY MONSTER!!!" I stood there high on acid and watched him and his band play this song for ten minutes that seemed like a blissful eternity, then melted out the door. A good time was had by all in attendance. You might want to check out his brother if you'd like to have your ears scorched off. May I suggest you listen to his album; "Still Alive and Well" from '73
They are playing live in a television studio. The programme they are performing on is 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'. If you want to watch some amazing talent like these lads, from this era, approximately 1970-84 or there abouts, playing live, you should check out 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'.
The song imitates the sound of the electricity used to animate the monster in the Frankenstein lore. The studio cut is leaner and meaner though. Rick Derringer on guitar, check out "Rock 'n' Roll Hootchie Koo".
You know, when you go to a live concert, you fully expect the group to stretch out a song longer than what you hear on the radio,..I dont know if this was before a live audience, but you can see it's a small place,..small stage,..and probably even with the studio version, Edgar most likely wanted to make that longer,..dude is a genius, musician, like to name a few, Mozart, Prince,.he truly was connected to music,..its in his brain,..can play it on anything,..so talented, you know how some people are even handed, can write with both hands 🙌,..and you cracked me up with the looks on your face, at one point, you seem to be looking around, like,..where's Edgar,..where'd he go, where'd go!,.and I so wanted to tell you,..dude, there he is he's on the drums too,!!,..trying to keep up with Edgar is like trying to follow a fly darting around in a room,..he's like David Lee Roth, when he performed with Van Halen,..if you batted your eyelids, you most likely missed something,..I love how back in the day musicians had to do that,..to change instruments, but the thing about a band,..they kept it going, as Edgar's band mates did here,..while he did his quick presto change-o from keyboards, to sax, to drums,.God I think he even played the harmonica on a song,.think I saw him do that on someone's show,..the rest of the band kept the beat, kept the tempo going,..the bassist, guitarist, drummer,..when I saw Van Halen in concert, and Roth did his turn swinging from the rafters all over the place, above the stage, above the audience,..then Eddie took his turn doing the same, the rest of the band kept the song going base, drum, while they did their antics,..and Eddie kept playing in mid air,..Jerry Lee, Little Richard, played the piano backwards,..upside down,..lol,..crazy,..they're that good,..got all quadrants of the brain firing,..they supposedly kept Einstein's brain for study,..cause it was incredible how he came up with all these mathematical formulas, and scientific hypothesis, wanting to know what kind of damm brain he had,..they should've done that with these musicians like these,..what they did doesn't seem humanly possible,..its like Einstein, keeping all these equations in his brain,..how did Winter even keep up playing all these instruments, in one sitting,..not like in a studio, where you can stop playing, stop recording, jump on another instrument, start recording again,..but in one sitting, still keeping where you left off with the other instrument, to the next one, elaborate on it,..its amazing,...I'm one handed use a dominant hand to write ✍ , if I try to write with my non dominant hand,..its like a two year old just learning to write,..don't have the fluidity to write with both,..do keep going,..the 70's produced such talent,..Innovative decade, as was the 60's, 80's,....Godspeed, Peace ✌
Chuck Ruff on drums, Rick Derringer on guitar child prodigy hit with the McCoy - hang on Sloopy. Dan Hartman bass, voice for movie hit ,I can Dream About You from Streets Of Fire .
This is an amazing performance and was back in the day when you had to play your own instruments and be multi talented. No computer generated or auto tuned music. What a concept.
Edgar & Johnny Winter had a rare condition very rare for 2 to be both with albinism. Extremely gifted talented multifaceted musicians.....that guy on the drums Chuck Ruff was a badass & that Bass player was also an amazing songwriter/singer Dan Hartman.
Your reaction is priceless--- speechless for a very long time. It's jaw-dropping. I saw them perform this on TV the night before I saw Dylan and The Band. It was a good time to be alive. SO much talent in that band. They cover so many feels and genres.
Some things are best watched live and this was one of those things. If you haven't already seen Chicago playing "25 or 6 to 4" live at Tanglewood, it's another must-see.
They played on each others songs as well. Edgar backed up guitarist Rick Derringer on his song "Rock and Roll Hoochiecoo" so you may want to check that out.
Great 👍 Edgar Winter plays sax, guitar and keyboards 🎹 The other famous member was the late Dan Hartman. He left to go solo. Suggested song 🎵 Free Ride. RIP Dan Hartman
I remember hearing this song back in the 70s, and NEVER knew that he played all those instruments!! What a Frankenstein genius of a song that is and what a musical- monster the Edgar Winter Group really is!!! I'll definitely recommend this live performance to all my friends... Insane talent! ✌️🔥🥁🎸🎷🎹
This song was released in 1972 and was a smash hit, the following year they had another great hit with "Free Ride", which, if you haven't heard it yet, please check it out. Yeah, (I in my opinion) "The Edgar Winter Group" was quite innovative and ahead of their time (back in the day), to watch them perform this live would be seriously exciting, however, I couldn't have been able to because I was only 11 years old. Thanks for this reaction, it was awesome.
Edgar is Johnny Winter s little brother , as kids , being albinos , they learned how to play instruments !! They both know how to play them all , but Johnny mainly stuck to the guitar and Edgar plays everything else !! And they both know how to play the instruments very well ,, very well !!! Since you checked out this one , now you have to check out TOBACCO ROAD , with both Edgar and Johnny Winter ,, and then you can go down their other paths . Never seen Edgar , but got to see Johnny Winter live three times ,, freaking incredible !!!!!!!
Unbelievable stuff, horse categorie musicianship. There is Edgar Winter (and his fabulous group) and there is also his brother Johnny Winter a brilliant and gifted guitarist, a legend in his days. From the outside whiter than white, but from the inside something completely different. Fine reaction.
I saw Edgar Winter perform and, at a different time, I saw the guitarist, Rick Derringer, perform in Augusta, GA. Both were incredibly impressive and masters of their craft. Edgar Winter is currently performing with former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr's All-Star Band, now on tour. You can watch them on UA-cam.
Saw them in concert in 1975 and they didn't disappoint. The Edgar and Johnny Winter brothers were born albino. Because of that condition they couldn't be outside much so they stayed inside and learned everything they could about music. All that time practicing and learning music payed off. Johnny was a top blues guitar player that passed away a while ago. You should check out the song Tobacco Road that they did together. Also, check out Free Ride by the Edgar Winter Group. Both Edgar and Johnny were underrated, but so very talented.
Edger and his brother Johnny are albinos which means they can’t be in the sun long because they would get severely sunburn so as kids they had to stay inside and music was their outlet and they learn to play every instrument and got real good at them oh by the way they was from Texas
They're from my hometown I've seen them live more than once and met them more than once they're both awesome. I saw Johnny a few months before he passed away in a hotel room on the road doing what he loved in his seventies

Edgar's doing a tour again with the Ringo all-star band this year. Still going strong. I just learned today he is in an excellent health. Hallelujah!

It's his brother Johnny who sings that. Edgar plays guitar on that one.
I approve this message.
The whole White Trash album is great.
Definitely, the brothers together on Tobacco Road. Amazing. But for high energy you can't beat Frankenstein

Edgar was a true virtuoso on several instruments and it was an amazing thing to behold.
I love this, but my favorite part about this video is the fact that the band is obviously having a blast here,it's written all over their faces.
this is the edgar winter group. edgar is the keyboard player with the white hair with the legendary rick derringer on lead guitar. saw these guys in 74 at one of our local music bars that only held 300 people and you could stand 10 feet away from them . rick was in a very popular band called THE McCOYS in the 60's and also played with edgar's brother johnny winter in the group JOHNNY WINTER AND. kickass stuff. edgar had a band before this one called EDGAR WINTER'S WHITE TRASH. gotta love that name. here is a song from that album called '' i've got news for you'. one of the best blues songs you have ever heard and saxophinist jerry lacroix really shows off his gritty gruff blues voice. if you just heard the song without knowing it was him you would not guess in a million years that this was a white boy singing it. he blows it up : ua-cam.com/video/NDtRdojr_Fs/v-deo.html
Laaaawd that was great. I never knew about this earlier band.
'autumn ' is a heartbreakingly beautiful tune and 'round and round' is just a great song period.

round and round : ua-cam.com/video/xcvDGQ2o8Og/v-deo.html
You are such a love.. keep up the excellent work!! Love it...!
dan hartman on bass. he had a few hits including, i can dream about you from the 1980s was a hit song from the movie soundtrack the streets of fire
Beaumont, Tx natives. The epitome of funk in the 70s
These guys were awesome.
The most overlooked and one of the most underrated bands in Rock History. They were all master musicians and 20 years ahead of their time. So innovative and original. I was fortunate enough to be a teenager in the 1970's and got to see them live in Michigan where they toured regularly.
This was a live concert in England and on a TV show at the same time I think it was called the old gray Whistle Stop
Edgar and Johnny Winters were musical geniuses!
I had Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein in quadraphonic, you never will hear anything like this ever again.
edgarwinrts played the standing keyboard, a sxaphone, and kettle drums, amazing group
Tobacco road live version Edgar and his
brother Johnny Winter
Check out Edgar and brother Johnny doing Tobacco Road. The check out Johnny in Denmark! Another genius Texas blues guitarist!
Albino blues baby!
Going to check out your wife's channel!
You got to dig into Eger and johnny Winter 🥶❄️. Both brothers are extremely talented. Love this song from the first time I heard it in 1973.
The song imitates the sound of the electricity used to animate the monster in the Frankenstein lore. The studio cut is leaner and meaner though.
Rick Derringer on guitar, check out "Rock 'n' Roll Hootchie Koo".
Rick Derringer is awesome.
RIP Chuck Ruff and Dan Hartman; two amazing players.
This is an amazing performance and was back in the day when you had to play your own instruments and be multi talented. No computer generated or auto tuned music. What a concept.
Rick Derringer on guitar.
Rock and roll hoochie coo yall.
You have been initiated! :) Do "Tobacco Road" for some blues and scat singing!
Edgar & Johnny Winter had a rare condition very rare for 2 to be both with albinism. Extremely gifted talented multifaceted musicians.....that guy on the drums Chuck Ruff was a badass & that Bass player was also an amazing songwriter/singer Dan Hartman.
Johnny Winter with Edgar Winter, TOBACCO ROAD.
Both Johnny and Edgar were amazing artists. I grew up with them. Unbelievable talent. In this song Edgar plays keyboards, sax, and drums
Free Ride
I got to see them do this live in Lincoln, Nebraska on August 25, 1974. It was indeed epic.
Edgar and Johnny Winter Tobacco Road Live
You have to check out johnny and edgar winter- tobacco road live
They played on each others songs as well. Edgar backed up guitarist Rick Derringer on his song "Rock and Roll Hoochiecoo" so you may want to check that out.
Saw Rick Derringer live about 30 years ago. Sounded better than ever.
Great 👍
Edgar Winter plays sax, guitar and keyboards 🎹
The other famous member was the late Dan Hartman. He left to go solo.
Suggested song 🎵 Free Ride.
RIP Dan Hartman
Its called talent.
"Free Ride" is an awesome song.
Agreed
You can watch them on UA-cam.
the look of awe and bewilderment says it all ... just like most every other reaction to this tune ... gotta luvvit!!!!!!!
it was a radio hit. "Frankenstein". you can tell it is composed, but they play it with great exuberance. Looks like they Love their muuusic!
Don't miss The album "Jasmine Nightdreams" by Edgar Winter.
Edgar is a musical genius. he can play any song. He named it Frankenstein because he tore it apart and rearranged it

👍🏼
I was born in Beaumont and still live in a Beaumont address but outside the city. I was a sophomore in HS when Frankenstein came out an unbelievable 50 years ago.
@@tvc184 I was actually born in Port Arthur, but I also lived in Beaumont. I live in Hemphill now. I think I was in junior high when Frankenstein came out. I first fell in love with Johnny Winter when I was 13 and introduced to his album Johnny Winter and Live. I was hooked for sure! Then I fell in love with his brother after that. Edgar's doing a tour again with the Ringo all-star band this year. Still going strong. I just learned today he is in an excellent health. Hallelujah!
I know edgar is super talented but johnny is the brother that does it for me, love his guitar playing
His live tape of Tabaco road is incredible.
Coolness!!!!!! And check out tobacco road!!;
Keyboards...sax...and, of course, call and response on DRUMS! Two of the most talented brothers in modern music history [Johnny (not on this song) and Edgar Winter.]
This was one of the hardest songs (old school slang) I have always loved this. The drum solo is a killer.
Your face says it all!! lol. I love it. Edgar and Johnny Winter, love them both.
Great reaction. Group is Edgar Winter..playing everything. Rick Derringer…Guitar. Dan Hartman …Bass. And Chuck Ruff …Drums…
Saw them Live. What a blast.
Bro definitely check out “ Give it all you got & Tobacco Road. They are amazing. 🔥🔥🔥♥️♥️
'73. I was 12. . Phenomenal year for rock And soul. Plus Secretariat's Triple Crown win.
