  • Whether you are fishing a damiki rig and jigging a slab spoon during those cold winter months or vertical fishing a drop shot rig in the heat of summer the key to success is not having the most expensive sonar on the market but rather understanding the sonar that you have and knowing how to set it up to maximize its performance on the water allowing you to see your bait and watch for key bites that could make for an incredible day on the water.
    Sonar Used In Video - Humminbird Helix 7 SI Model
    Suggested Settings (To See Your Lure)
    Noise Filter - use as little noise rejection as you can get away with
    Surface Clutter - display as much surface clutter as you can stand
    Jigging Mode - turn jigging mode on (SI units only)
    Scroll Speed - adjust to a slightly faster setting
    Ping Rate - turn ping rate on highest setting
    Upper / Lower Range - adjust to display only the range you are fishing
    Beam khz - 200khz (Bow Mounted) or 83khz/200khz (Transom)
    Sensitivity - Depends on depth and water clarity
    Background Color - White
    Switchfire - Clear Mode

    Thanks Ryan, I would had to watch 10 videos or more to learn what you have simplified in one video. I think you have a natural teaching ability. Thanks so much!

      Im glad the video helped ya out, it took me a long time to figure out where to adjust that ping speed, it makes no sense why they put it where it is

      Found out today that this does not include all Helix units and Screen shot information was totally different. Only found your screen info on a helix 12 2gn Gen 3 was different and my gen 2 helix 9SI mega is different.

    Awesome video Ryan! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this tutorial. I have watched all of the ones out there on the web and none come close to what I learned from you. I am going to try the Damiki rig tomorrow for the first time and will get my Hummingbird set up per your instructions. Keep these videos coming as I learn more each time. Thanks for being all about helping others become better at this most addictive and exciting sport! Update: I got 2 nice spots on the Damiki today!! It was tough finding any schools and really had trouble getting my Hummingbird setup correctly - not sure why - I have a Helix 7 Down imaging - could not get the settings you show here. Then my crank battery started dying so my FF kept shutting down - but I will keep at it til I get it right!

      Thats awesome, I appreciate you supporting the channel and im happy that the videos have helped you out. I actually just did a couple trips to Georgia in an attempt to make the damiki rig work on spotted bass but just couldnt make it happen. What lake do you fish?

      Ryan Epps Fishing I fish a power plant lake (Julian) a mile from my house (Arden, NC) for Spots which is where I got the 2 this week on the Damiki - I also fish with a buddy on Lake Lure, Keowee and Hartwell - last of which we are doing Monday I plan to try it there. My husband has a good friend who lives just across the road from Douglas Lake and I have fished it a few times and plan to hit it more this spring - I want to fish Cherokee as well - we both went to Carson Newman and have several friends in Jeff. Co. I have a Tracker 175 but haven’t learned how to pull a trailer so I either fish with my buddy in his Champion or my husband drops me off at Julian ( I really need to learn how to pull it myself as this is quite restrictive!) I continue to learn from your videos and really appreciate you taking the time to make them!

    Thank you! This video is absolutley fantastic. I only wish that at the end of the video you had footage of your jig on the graph. I still think I can make this happen with the information you have provided. Thanks again! P.S.... Please post more information to help us out with these SI/DI Humminbird Helixes. The only thing people are posting now is livescope....Grrrr! lol

    • @steveking8548

      Why doesn't Humminbird put this kind of information out there? Because they're in the business of manufacturing, not education. Chevrolet manufactures trucks but I've never seen them have classes on how to use all the bells and whistles on that new pick up truck.

    I’ve noticed with my Helix 7 on sensitivity you need to vary it based on depth and bottom condition to get maximum visual results.

    • @RyanEppsFishing
      @RyanEppsFishing  4 роки тому

      I totally agree, it doesnt matter what brand or how expensive the unit is I adjust the sensitivity and other settings on my units constantly throughout the day to adjust from spot to spot and for current conditions to see the info that I need

    How do you set up a helix 7 mega g3n

  • @ronaldbolen5685
    @ronaldbolen5685 4 роки тому +1

    The ping speed is only for controlling the speed of pings for recording, not the sonar. Humminbird ping is not adjustable.

    • @RyanEppsFishing
      @RyanEppsFishing  4 роки тому +1

      well that would explain why that setting is on the recording screen only. Good info, thanks

    Do you have any tips for me when I only have a rear transducer for my helix 9 g2n si when trying to vertical jigg and watch video game, thank you for what you do

    • @RyanEppsFishing
      @RyanEppsFishing  4 роки тому

      That can be very tough but you could always buy an extra transducer and put it on your trolling motor then put your helix on a ram mount that you could turn facing the front of the boat so when you want to fish just plug in the front transducer and swing your helix around so you can see it.

    Got the same problem, not seeing my side and down imaging on my Helix 7 chirp SI gps

    • @RyanEppsFishing
      @RyanEppsFishing  5 років тому

      My helix 7 is an older model and does not have a dedicated down image crystal in the transducer, the down image is a composite image used from the side image picture and in my opinion because of that the down image always looked like junk, im not sure if they ever started putting a dedicated down image crystal in the later model helix 7 SI models or not.
