Very nice looking dial. Cheers for showing.
I have a RVLVR watch with a clear blue dial and a NH70 movement, looks fantastic
Sehr interessant, das Zifferblatt ist der absolute Hammer 👍👍👍
Engine turning is what that finish around back Basel is called !!!! and I also enjoy the gilded finish !!!!!!!
I think in watch terms its called something more posh!
A very interesting dial and the shape and polishing of the case is very interesting. The dial is not "overloaded" and the time can be well tracked. The mechanism is sound and maintainable. A harmonious watch.
Yes very legible dial. Not a fan of the polish and at 42mm.
The Polar bear on the Iceberg reminds me of a certain brand of clear mints! The main detraction/distraction is that bright shiny case.
Foxes Glacier Mints!! Didnt John Cleese do the voiceover?
@@MyRetroWatches Sorry, don't know.
I am more in to the Proxima PX1701 that has the same design but smaller at 39 mm. Omnion is a site project. I think that both versions are Christopher Ward Sapphire but the Proxima homage has more appeal.
Well Mike, this watch repair stuff doesn’t look straight forward, but thinking I could change a face as a simple first task, I now have a watch that’s not working, the crown not engaging properly, and with the seconds hand not on because I couldn’t figure how to put it back. Also, whilst you tell us to screw back the face screws, I didn’t and they are very small to put back when they fall out - ho hum, every day’s a school day!
Great review Mike, totally agree with your comments. Like the dial not sure about the case. Many thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Nice watch, I just stumbled on Proxima watches on Ali myself as well, they seem really nice.
Agree about the highly polished case - doesn’t look right to my eye, and it’s too chunky on the wrist, so it won’t be on the Christmas list. But a little bird tells me that my stocking will be filled by lots of interesting tools via your website - how exciting!
I think if the lug to lug had been a bit smaller it would have been fine for more wrists out there.
Good luck with your tools. Thank you.
Please do a follow up of buying on eBay slash other places , where to look ,what to watch out for. I am in America just starting to look for projects. Thank you for your videos.
I hope they'll take some of the criticism from you & other reviewers on board & do another revision. Even as-is I think it's one of the more interesting watches on Aliexpress. I agree about choosing the PT5000 version. I feel safe with a PT5000, because I know I can swap in an SW200-1.
First time on your channel. Great review. Lovely watch. Lug to lug is a little large--I have a 7.5" wrist, so it'd probably work for me. Otherwise, looks really interesting for the price
Thank you. Nice to hear some feedback. I now have a second channel for reviews as this, my main channel will be more about the watch restoration work.
A lesser man would reference the dial and make a Shrek-themed "Omnions have layers!" gag, but not me.
It's an interesting piece, but I go a different way from you. I think a beautiful dial is one of the key appeals for a watch, so when I see a skeletonised front, I kinda feel something is missing. That said, I don't mind this translucent face. 100% agree on the size, the polishing and the caseback.
I like the dial and movement but it goes south from there since I have a tendency to be rather rough on my watches having not one but two Casios in my watch graveyard so a high polished case is a disaster waiting to happen
Quite off topic here Mike
Any chance you'll show us your videoing setup sometime? Best wishes to you and yours Ralfy
I’ve shown photos of it many times. I am far from professional
I love the blue see through dial dial and the skx style crown position.
Im not keen on the high shine polish look and would prefer day /date .
Its all pretty academic for me as you said Its too big It would look like I was wearing a clock! Which is a shame because if they tweaked a few things I'd buy one.
Seiko brought out something similar at the beginning of 2022 as I recall.
Yes Seiko have models like this and one that is very close to this look as a Christopher Ward.
if your doing new watches can you do the new citizen automatic watches ? im interested in new mechanical watches
Interesting watch nice colour dial. As for the rest like you I think they have missed opportunities that would have set it off better. Cheers and Merry Christmas buddy
Thank you Darren. I sent the video to the manufacturer but so far they have not commented or replied anything to me so perhaps they did not like my critique.
@@MyRetroWatches they wanted a honest review and you gave them one!! All good from my point of view 👍🏻👍🏻
It's got a SkyDweller feel about the dial. The name is odd and not my taste, looks like onion. Some lovely features. The dimensions for me are perfect. The higher cost for the SW200 isn't really justified IMO seeing as the standard ETA clone is performing superbly.
I got that watch some time ago and have the same feeling, a bit too top heavy and tad to big.
Also which is still unclear to me, is this stainless steel case ?
At 4:10 it is visible - there is no hairline gap between bezel and rest of the case. I have some watches from different makers etc and on all I can see that bezel is "separate" from rest of the case. But on this one it looks and feels like bezel was installed and whole case was chrome plated ?
I have no idea how to check if it is stainless steel or some other material but that bugs me a lot with that watch.
And 42mm as well but this is my mistake as I haven't check listing thoroughly.
I will have a closer look but feel it’s steel. When I took the back off and you can see the machining you would not see that on something plated. Chrome is usually on a brass case with a nickel plating and then chrome (at least from what I know). To plate over decorative machining marks would make them look off and in some parts perhaps fill slightly some of the marks.
I will take a closer look at it to be sure .
@@MyRetroWatches
Thanks.
It is visible at 5:37 with lugs being a bit "curved" imho.
Agree to the polishing on the case, it looks cheap too polished like that. The brushing on the top of the bezel brings to muck attention to the border of the cristal, defeating the purpose of having a interesting dial.
BTW, I'm not to much interested in new watches. Are you sure it is not better to keep the reviews on the separated review channel?
The polishing on the clasp is way nicer!
Thanks for your comment. I agree with you. As for the reviews I did say at the end of the video that reviews will now be on the second channel but I still have a few that I committed to before I started the second one. If a company has approached me its because of this channel so they will expect the video to be on here which is what I agree to.
I have one more to do which ironically is another Phoibos and then that should be it. Maybe occasionally one will pop up if I think its interesting enough or its a product that is worthy showing the audience.
My review channel will be a combination of new and vintage, some sponsored and some just my own collection.
Omnium (from Latin Omni: = of all, belonging to all) . Onnion I can't find the meaning off.
Like the look of the dial - but the logo looks like it says "Onion" to me lol
Hello Michael, I'd much rather have a nice vintage Seiko for my £200 : ) I'm a skinny runt and all these modern watches are just too big and clunky. They all shout too loudly for my taste. Whatever happened to classic style.
Believe me I completely agree. £200 in the vintage world goes a very long way.
I’m enjoying seeing and handling new watches as I’ve been in the vintage world for 5 years.
Some things I’ve had that are 36-39mm have been lovely. When they get over that in your words they get shouty.
Eventually I hope the penny will drop that smaller is better.
An attractive looking watch. However, these kind of prices bring it into Orient territory. Quality wise, will it stand the test of time?
That I cant answer. The PT5000 I quite like as a movement but some people do complain they have had problems with that movement but you could say that about anything.
I guess everybody can wear it than... Omni - on :)
Pearlage?
Yes I think thats the name! cheers
Lovely dial, and on the face of it a very nice movement. It makes a very nice watch for a larger individual however Omnium would being doing themselves a favour by offering it in different case sizes as I believe some manufacturers do.
Totally agree for me 38-39 is the sweet spot for many. Maybe its just my age and the younger guys like all these big watches?
I'm just bothered about the brand/logo, its font seems wrong and it's a third too large, don't make an over reach details like that as they clash with the type of watch it is etc.
:)
Nice watch - shame about the case
Buy a Christopher ward
I just looked at that one. Interesting it uses the SW200 ETA clone too. At 4 times the price you really have to want that look. Thanks though as I difdnt know about that model. remarkably similar but at least not a total copy.
Omnion sounds like onion.Too much polishing on the case,I agree,to the point it does not match the bracelet.Nevertheless,it is a very interesting watch, but I've heard so many comments about the PT-5000 being unreliable that I don't think I would want it bearing this movement (if I were to procure one).Sizewise,I like it.Overall,it's a relatively good proposition.Thank you for your time, great video.
Thanks for your comment. I am waiting for one of my PT5000 watches to fail so I can then find out what is supposed to be their weak point. You cant argue with the TG trace though. Out of the box they seem well setup.
@@MyRetroWatches True, but it's the longevity of the movement that is in dought. This why I haven't bought a 1963,yet,and whenever I buy chinese watches I go with the ''safe'' choice of NH-35/36 or MECAQUARTZ.
@@CUSTODIAN70 understand that. The seagull 1963 is using a movement that’s 70 years old so tried and tested.
Ref PT5000 thing is you only read about the problems. There is no evidence statistically. How many made how many failed and reasons behind it.
I’ve been doing some warranty work for Vario watches and I can say from a few I’ve had to repair two had obviously taken a serious shock, most likely from being dropped but of course the owner does not admit to this saying it’s just failed. Once inside I can see the evidence quite clearly.
PT5000 being unreliable is just rumors. At least I have not seen any photos on the internet what would be the failure point on them, just some abstract comments like "it stopped working". Yeah all movements stop working if you bash them with a hammer.
@@MyRetroWatches Thank you for pointing these out.I might be buying myself a Seagull 1963,after all.Sorry for the late responce.
I will be interesting to see the date jump over (if it is an instant jump). But besides that, not my cup of 🫖
Does PT5000 have instant date change (unlike NH35)?
@@terrylyn No it doesn't.
:)
