As someone who works in EMS on 24hr shifts for 14 years I can personally tell you that you get that burst of energy knowing you get to leave and go home. So happy to see your training and knowledge come full circle. Enjoy the journey!
Girl you are doing awesome! I aspire to be in your position soon. You dont have to explain your hustle to ANYONE, your drive home is your business and you dont need to explain youraelf to anyone who doesnt understand. It takes a special human to work in healthcare and im right there with you. I just pray that you get enough rest to avoid burnout and things like that. Im prating you keep your fire about you, and that you are safe while youre out here doing the dang thang! God speed!
As someone who is gonna join that doctor life next summer - I love seeing how you’re settling in and doing proper doctor jobs!! 🎉so proud. Thank you for keeping us with you on your journey! ❤
I’ve been watching you since my first year of college & now am in my first year of medical school. Whenever school got tough, u always served as motivation for me to keep going ❤ thank you!
As an incoming college freshman, your channel is amazing. From MCAT tips to your journey through med school and now your experience as a Doctor. You are doing great Rachel and I look up to you. I can't wait to begin my path towards becoming a doctor. Continue doing YOU Rachel, we all love and support you.
I'm a medical student still so I have no experience as an intern. It definitely does not look easy. I used to work as an EMT working 24, 48, sometimes 72 hours shifts. I used to have to drive home after these shifts too and I lived over an hour away. I made the mistake to not sleep after getting home so it makes me really happy to see that you are. My advice is to keep that up. Sleep, sleep, sleep! And fuel your body. Keep up the hard work, Dr. Southard! This hard work will be worth it.
You’re doing more than enough with posting. Take it easy. Post more quick reels! It’s okay to give us small updates and longer ones 1x maybeeeeeeeee 2x a month.
I'm a PA who did a post grad fellowship so obv I've spent a lot of time studying and working but your videos remind me much work my medical colleagues put in. I like to keep a variety of snacks in my locker in the surgical ICU so when the surgical residents in their billionth hour of call bring a patient up in the middle of the night I can grab them a snack. massive respect. you're doing great!
Dr. Southard, I am so happy for you. I'd always wanted to be a doctor. I lacked confidence to pursue medicine in college. At 44, I am in a STEM career, but I admire your drive and vulnerability as you live into your dream. Thanks for sharing!
I’m a medical student, I understand how challenging this must be, maybe not fully but I’ve been on few shift experiences before and felt like quitting but obviously I wasn’t asked to do much. This is why you’re truly awesome. You inspire me to do better.
I love seeing you live your dream. I know it’s not easy being an intern but it looked like you handled this shift very well. I know you learned a lot those 24 hours. Now if I could just find a Dr like you to do a gyne (aka Pap smear) for me in South Hills Pittsburgh that accepts my insurance. It is a nightmare to find a good one. Anyway, keep up the good work!
As a night shift mother baby (postpartum) RN, can I just say how much I love your content ❤ you’re amazing for working full time (well, more than full time) and creating content ✨
Loving that you are keeping going now you’re a resident! Not only is it so interesting but also I appreciate how making content is so much harder now due to the pulls on your time and stress ❤️
I have been watching you since you first started your channel. You have grown so much in confidence and I can’t wait for this new era! I love seeing you thrive in something you are passionate in 🥰
Being loving the videos and watching you flourish to a doctor ! I have been watching you for many years and even though I will never be a doctor, I hate science and study love watching your videos! Keep up the great work
i loved this video Rachel, you're so hard working!!! and i found that the captions u added made the video even better - specially that one about how the nurses correct you when say "rachel" instead of "dr. southard", it cracked me up for some reason ahahaha kisses kisses, cant wait for next week's video :))
As I was walking down the hallway, I saw a young lady with RESIDENT on her scrub. I asked her, hey are you a permanent or temporary resident and what country she was from? Well...I guess she didn't get it. She said she was a temporary resident from Iowa. I just snickered and shook my head and said, 'cool'! see ya next call!
Given the job and time you have, this was a perfect vlog in your 24 hour shift. You updated us more then I thought you could. Thank you for sharing! Proud of you!❤
I’m a second year med student and honestly it seems so scary with everything you have to do. I hope I’ll be able to do all of this once I’m a dr but for now it seems very far away
Just took my MCAT on Saturday, starting last year of undergrad today. Watching your channel as inspo (as I always do). Great job for your first call shift! P.S. in my opinion, you did deliver those babies. I know the moms who delivered them would say you delivered their babies too!!
I had to career swap because I am not going to be capable of becoming a nurse or doctor. However I still absolutely LOVE watching these things, its wonderful seeing some hope within the medical community. Iv heard so many horror stories and horrible things lately, need something positive. Thank you for all you do.
Go Rachel! I’ve been following you since the beginning and I have enjoyed watching your journey. You deserve to be where you are. You are awesome! ❤️❤️
You are so inspiring! I am seriously considering OBGYN as a specialty and your vlogs give me a clear insight into life inside the OBGYN world... Thank you Dr. Rachel and God bless you
This might be my new favorite video of yours! It is so inspiring, and I have extra motivation for my crazy work shifts! Btw, as a mom myself, it is totalllllly fine for you to say you delivered babies. You're putting in the work to make sure they're ok! Just not as physical haha. Also also, as a rotating shift worker, yes there are risks driving home after work, but there's also adrenaline and sunshine that help with the shorter drives. No need to apologize!
been watching you since the start of med school! I went through respiratory school at the same time. Now we’re at the end of our first trimester with our first baby!! Love watching you and love getting to learn little things along the way of this pregnancy!
It's so inspiring seeing you work as a doctor now; I've watched you grow since you were a first-year med student. I'm a fourth-year student and still have one year till graduation (5 years program). So now I'm very excited and can't wait to live the life of a doctor like you do now. good luck Dr. Southard and I hope you become the best OBGYN doctor you want to be.
I ❤ your Vlogs! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do them. You are doing amazing! Easy to see Patients who have you are in good hands. You are what the medical profession needs. Keep thriving❤
Rachael you are so so so inspiring to me. As someone who is a post-bac going to DO school to most likely becoming an OBGYN your videos give me so much life and life. I’m so proud of you and grateful for you ❤
Great vlog! I would not have even thought about you driving home after the shift if you hadn’t of mentioned it. You will sleep better in your own space. It is good to see you feeling more confident with elements of the role and showing the continued learning that you have to do.
As someone who works in healthcare the amount of PANIC that took over me at the 1:43 mark when I thought you were going to say the dreaded "Q" word was insane, I could feel my insides seizing up LOL
Just watching this video got me tired 😅. I would pick family practice in a very small down where I close practice early and go fishing with the locals.
I love watching your videos so much !!! You give me so much motivation and inspiration to work hard as a mom and in school !!! Please don’t stop you are amazing ❤❤❤
Hey Rachel, I hope you’re doing well. I loved your video as always.❤It gives me a background of the work I’m going to do as a resident when I start my residency in the U.S. Thank you sweetie.🥰
I love watching your videos and you are an inspiration as I am currently studying for my MCAT! You're doing amazing but also, please don't feel pressured to make videos! We know you are in a very busy time of your life and we understand! Go be the best doctor to your patients, we can wait!!!
3:00 the only thing I don’t like about the “no sugar” part of their marketing is that sugar is an essential part of getting water into the cells. Water follows salt, but salt follows sugar 🙃
As someone who works in EMS on 24hr shifts for 14 years I can personally tell you that you get that burst of energy knowing you get to leave and go home. So happy to see your training and knowledge come full circle. Enjoy the journey!
The language makes sense to me that the mother "gives birth" and the medical professional "delivers them", to the mother.
As an L&D nurse, it made me smile when you complimented the nurses . ♥️♥️ I so wish I could work with you!! Seems like you’re doing great.
Hearing you say “Dr. Southard” is so 😭🥹
I’m not pregnant and won’t be anytime soon, but you’re the kind of person I’d want delivering my babies.
Girl you are doing awesome! I aspire to be in your position soon. I wish LMNT wasn't so expensive for Canadians!!
As someone who is gonna join that doctor life next summer - I love seeing how you’re settling in and doing proper doctor jobs!! 🎉so proud. Thank you for keeping us with you on your journey! ❤

Medical student here! Seeing your life really inspires me to keep going. Your doing great 💜💜💜

I love watching her, this is the definition of the beauty in the struggle.

Our Girl was DOCTOR ON CAL 🥹❤️
Thank you so much for sharing your life with us even on such a busy intern schedule. Love your vlogs! You got this Rachel!
Dr. Southard, I am so happy for you. I'd always wanted to be a doctor. I lacked confidence to pursue medicine in college. At 44, I am in a STEM career, but I admire your drive and vulnerability as you live into your dream. Thanks for sharing!

This is a hard journey but you are killing it Dr. Southard!! Its so surreal seeing that name on your jacket after so long working hard in med school🎉
I find it so interesting to see what you're going through as a first year resident and I'm not even in the medical field.
My hospital luckily doesn't make us do 24s though for regular inpatient vs OB I understand how it can be different. Proud of you!
“Baby should not be flying out of the vagina”

You know its a passion when it comes to working a 24hrs shift. Sometime the good ole 8hr shift is too much😂
Loving that you are keeping going now you’re a resident! Not only is it so interesting but also I appreciate how making content is so much harder now due to the pulls on your time and stress ❤️
Be Kind to Yourself ❤
Can’t wait to watch this! I’m always so impatient during the week to watch your next video. Love you girl!
Stay positive and all work out. Enjoy your time, we appreciate your vlogs.
Fellow intern here, you are doing great Rachel!

Yay! Love watching your videos . Always get excited when I get the notification!
I still remember your gymnastics videos! So proud of you. :)
Dr. Rachel, you are a natural!!!
I can't wait. I have no notifications on, but I keep coming back. I hate the notifications, it's disturbing haha
I still don't understand why 24hr shifts exist
I see that you’re doing amazing 👏🏻 I’m cheering for you, you can do this.
happy for you Dr. Southard!
Well done Rachel, you’re doing your best!
You are so cool and inspiring 😭💕 I start PA school in about a week and I can’t wait to be part of the teams that do the things you’re doing
