Just started looking into this profession (anesthesiologist assistant) . I have been interested in the health field my entire life. Only interested in several fields. Though now I'm much older than probably most. I'm very interested in the this line of work. Always have been. Sometimes some of us will put our needs, wants, dreams well behind others. This is what got me to my older age and nothing to say for it for myself. Though I have little one in raising now. It's also time I start taking time to listen to my own desires. This happens to be one of them. Thank you for sharing this video. Didn't know if they allowed assistance to intubate patients or not.

I am sure she will do a video on this! But, mainly the differences are schooling, pay, and autonomy. As far as the workday goes, they are very similar. I guess if you are wanting to do anesthesia and trying to decide between the two think about what you want to do in undergrad and if autonomy is something that you care about. I am currently in a BSN-RN program and am going to go to CRNA school. If you do not want to go to nursing school, AA Is the way to go. CRNA school requires a BSN and RN licensure as well as two years of RN ICU experience, some schools require less, depends on location/school. I believe that AAs require a science-related Bachelors's and some shadow experience, but I do not think that AA programs require work experience. Again, I am more familiar with the CRNA side of things, but I hope this helps a little bit.
@@mikmiklicayan4483 Hi, hoping I can provide a good answer since I have a BSN and previous background in the sciences. For AA programs they generally prefer science pre-req courses that a pre-med would normally take like Gen. Physics, bio, gen Chem, orgo- Chem, human anatomy, and biochem along with a Bachelor’s degree of any kind. Most of those classes are normally not part of the RN curriculum, so it may be more difficult when it comes to the prework to apply. I have also shadowed both AAs and CRNAs and the jobs are basically the same. However there is MUCH greater independence on the CRNA side and they can practice in all 50 states as well as being able to practice without supervision in certain opt-out states. However, CRNA programs will all require 36+ months of school by 2025 while AA only requires around 25-27 months. You could definitely switch to AA with a BSN, just be prepared to take higher level science courses.

At my facility, I make the fluids in the morning for all the cases for the day, full check all the machines, set up for all the anesthesiologists, assist with induction, transport and any emergency stuff the anesthesiologist asks for like Art line/central line/hotline, I'll also charge patients and so much more.. from COR to radiology (for peds and adults). Yet I get paid close to nothing. lol
I've been looking into this career field for about a month or so and I've got a couple of questions I hope someone can help me with. Is the normal route to study something such as biology and get a bachelor degree in that and move on to a 4 year medical school? So 8 years of school. Do you get paid a livable wage during residency? What is anyone's take on becoming an anesthesiologist and not an assistant? I'm looking to have just a conversation about it and get some insight from someone knowledgeable. I'd rather talk to someone before reaching out to schools and programs because here, I might be able to get to hear about different experiences instead of someone trying to sell me on going to their school.
Becoming an anesthesiologist is very difficult. You would need 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of medical school, and 4 years of residency. But that's even if you can get into med school, then residency for anesthesiologist (which is one of the hardest ones to get into). From what I understand from my friends who are in residency, the pay is ok depending on where you end up, it's the hours that are horrible. Pay is probably around 40k a year but with the hours worked (easily like 100/wk depending) then if you were divide it per hour, you're making less than minimal wage. But technically it is all made up for once you finish. Anesthesiologist can make anywhere from 200-650k from what I've seen.
@Jswirv Thank you for this run down! I’m currently an Anesthesia Tech and was thinking about the next avenue I can take! Only problem I have with AA school is the cost 😬! That’s a pretty steep price tag! But like you said the ROI is well worth it!

Hi Liz, sorry to hear about your experience under GA. Pseudocholinesterase deficiency is an uncommon genetic disorder that is triggered by the use of the depolarizing muscle relaxant Succinylcholine. Depending on your history, surgery and other medical factors, your anesthesia care provider can develop an anesthesia care plan tailored to your need. They can safely use non-depolarizing muscle relaxants such as Rocuronium or eliminate the use of a muscle relaxant all together during GA (using LMA) if indicated. Spinal anesthesia alone does not require the use of a muscle relaxant therefore it is safe. I hope this helps. 👍 - newly certified anesthesia tech
