This video is the best I've seen that clearly explains the nuances of a bog filter installation.

Fantastic video, I plan to follow your example. Just curious, do you feel the bog filter and stream cause more water loss through evaporation? I'm thinking about keeping the total exposed water surface relatively low, which would mean a deeper bog and perhaps a closed pipe leading to the pond waterfall. Already I need to top off my pond about once/week, so I'm concerned that adding a bog filter will increase the evaporation.

@@icodeandmakevideos567 yeah I’m sure they do especially in the hot summer months. For me, I think the beauty It adds is worth topping the pond off a little more often, but I could see why someone would want to limit evaporation the best they could.

I just cleaned mine out. 4m in diameter aboit 1.3m deep, 8 workers 6 days to remove. It was a big mess. Not going down that path again. Sediment build up in the centipede pipe is not the problem. Its when sediment builds up in the various media level. Its near impossible to clean. Its a matter of time. Mine was close to 5 years old.
I am going to do a seperate mechanical filtration before running water through the bog. The bog is purely only for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate conversion and home for good bacteria.
Your still early days. U might want to reconsider your entire set up.

The project looks amazing. I get confused at your community-looking neighborhood though, in that major construction changes like that are probably required to have some interesting design plans. 10/10
