Online job?
John's voice and tone is perfect for storytelling and presenting
🙏🏻
He likes women, haven’t you seen his girl? Your doing some Fatal attraction shit bro.
Lol, I was thinking the same while i was listening to this without expecting to moving to NYC at all 😂
I sold my apartment in Park Slope back in the mid 90's for $250K. This was before the Barclays Center or before Brooklyn grew upward. A few years ago it resold for $1.3M. Maybe I should have kept it and rented it out.😪
Hindsight is 20/20.
Anyone who owned a Brownstone or a condo back then and sold their property are slapping the back of their heads a million times!!!! lol
@@graffmixer I do it everyday. Lol
Always buy and HOLD, baby!
I don't know 250k in the mid 90s...was a lot of money...facturing in inflation (try saying that 3 times) you probably weren't that much off?
A tip when looking for a neighborhood to live in regards to where work is, the number of trains needed to get there is also important. A 50 minute ride on one train is much easier than a 30 minute commute that relaies on taking multiple trains.
"It comes with a great view... of another building's wall." The classic NYC view!
Sure, I'd love to see more videos about which neighborhoods you like!
I am thinking about moving to NYC in the next year or two as a fresh start. Haven’t been to the city since I was a teenager. A guide on neighborhoods for a newbie would be great. Love the content!
Thank you for the helpful advice! I'm interviewing with several companies right now that are based in NYC, so the tips are awesome as I try and prep for a move in case I get an offer.
Been living here my whole life and now I feel like I’m ready to move out. So this video really helped me get an idea of what to look for. Appreciate you John🙏🏼
I have a good friend moving here for work from the UK and the timing couldn't have been more perfect!
Hey Jon, great video. I would love to see a video on the different neighborhoods. It would certainly help to get your perspective on the different neighborhoods and what they offer.
Super helpful! I am moving for work next month and have no idea where to start. This is a great jumping off point. Can’t wait to watch the rest of your videos. Gracias!
Thank you so much for the shout out bro!! Great tips here, especially about college students living close to their schools for classes and social events. And I love how you said there is no "perfect" neighborhood, it's all about what works for the individual.
Thanks
For the idea. Your channels so valuable for Chicago!
YES.. just yes. Please make ALL THE VIDEOS. We want them. We need them. You’re the best!
Would love to see a video with his views on which are the best neighbourhoods in NYC
👌🏻
Bensonhurst, Chinatown, Flushing, Sunset Park.
Being honest bro NY isn’t what it is no more, high crime rates everywhere but best place so far is Queens or Long Island (Suburban)
Chocolate people ruined this whole city and country. New york sucks.
I've lived in NYC my whole life and still haven't been everywhere lol... Love my City ❤️
Too many places to go!
When I still lived at home and ride and commuted to Grand Central Terminal I was all over the city now living here it's different and in this entire time I've never been to the statue of liberty and I've never been to Ellis Island.
Same! I've lived most of my life in Brooklyn and on occasion I've been to the other boroughs. But mostly just Manhattan though.
damn I've been everywhere and more please dont tell me your one of them.girls that only stays in manhatten .
Thanks for the video, as soon as all goes to normal I am seriously thinking to spend more than a few weeks in New York, probably 6 months or so. so... Your videos are great information. And Cash Jordan too 😉Thank you !!! 💖🥇😊
Looking to move next year with my family. Thank you for the information
I agree with Street Easy. While I am not currently in the market to move to NYC since I don't have a job there (but I'm looking), I have the app on my phone and I regularly do a search on there. It's a habit of mine. And, yes, I would love some neighborhood guide tours!
If I ever move to NYC, I'd be glad I watched your vids
Thanks for the tips!
Thanks Jason
Yes! Please make a video about people new to New York! I would love that!
Don't know if I would have found all of those hidden gems you mentioned in the city when I visited.
Thanks man & yes please make a video for newcomers who are looking for a place to stay 🙏🏼
Please make a video on the best neighborhoods for transplants! This sounds so interesting.
I have binged watched your channel for hours!!!!! ✈️🌇
Yes I would like to visit and stay for a awhile..I'd be thrilled to watch future videos regarding that..
Moving to Brooklyn next year. Thanks for your videos.
Also, you do great videos, always informative and interesting
Thank you for this information.
Back in Park Slope! Looks like plenty of deals around town!
The wife and I would love to live in NYC in a few years. We enjoy all the help we can get! I’d love to see more of this type of video.
Thanks bud, I’m actually in NYC looking for a neighborhood right now lol
thanks for the vid! I would LOVE to see a video about the Macy's Parade route! When I win the lottery, I will buy an apartment on that route!
GREAT resources -- Subscribed.
Thanks for the info ❤️
Yes we need that video !
Very helpful video, thank you!😄
Would love to see a sort of neighborhood guide like you mentioned.
Been living in Bay Ridge for 12 years. Own a co-op. Love it. Best neighborhood in NYC and the safest by far
Yes please make that video, I'm really considering moving to NYC, yes location is what I want and yes i don't need a big space, lol thank you.
Im very grateful for your videos
For me, the neighborhood full of food options is the best 😍😋
I agree with Jon here on how changing streets can change prices and commute time. When I first moved to New York I stayed really far away (1-1.5 hr subway commute to work in midtown). The result was under $500 in rent. Needed to save on rent so had no other choice.
My tip is staying in jersey city (hoboken, exchange place) can look like a steal - so close to Manhattan, cheap rent. Jersey to Manhattan during rush hour and weekend is totally different. 20 minutes subway ride can turn into 1 hour subway + ferry ride. Same place can take twice as much time to get to on Weekend v/s weekday.
I lived on the main avenue 1 block from the subway. If I added a 10 minute walk to my subway station (make the commute even longer 😅😅) I probably could have saved $50-100 per month
That's a heck of a commute you had!!
@@HereBeBarr There are lots of people in jersey who have moved to Atlantic Highlands and just take the ferry to their job in Manhattan. Quick and pleasant commute. Yes, the ferry is expensive, but if they live in The Highlands or areas of Middletown NJ, they are close to Atlantic Highlands and the price of property is probably half of property in NYC.
I bicycle everywhere, so I don't care at all about being near the subway. You can save a lot of money that way. My first place in Astoria was nearly double the price of the place where I ended up moving, which was still in Astoria, just further away from the subway. I'm moving to Manhattan in a few weeks and the subway is just a block away, but I didn't even think about that at all when looking.
Very informative.
I love the tips! Gosh, I would move to the city in the bat of an eye😆
Wow! This is a fabulous, knowledge packed segment! Love this so much! Some of these prices, right now for rentals, are less than in Vancouver. We are soaring in rental prices and have been for some time.
It's like someone just hit a big reset button, but i don't think these prices will last more than 1-2 years.
Yah, some of the prices in NYC is less, compared to Vancouver. Vancouver is just going up every year - COVID or no COVID.
@@HereBeBarr Makes good sense!
Great video. Very informational. You should consider using jumpcuts instead of fades to black. All personal preference though!
Def should make a video about where new residents should live!
Going with your gut is a great tip... when i moved to barcelona i went with my gut where i wanted to live and made the right choice
Whats up Jaycation!!
We've been here fifteen years. I'm a consultant and work all over, so since we came here for my wife's work we moved close to her office in Yorkville (which unfortunately moved to 8th near Penn). We live East of York, near Carl Schurz Park. It's quiet and boring. A nice retreat at the end of the day.

Always🙌
I would love to see a video for people who are new to the city and the boroughs in terms of saftey.
Saving this video! Such good info!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Hi Jon, love your video's.... maybe a new special on AIRBNB's during and after Covid.... for staying a month or more in NY in 2021 or 2022... Thanks, all the best wishes from Breda in The Netherlands
I was born and raised in NYC, love NYC and will never leave it. I just need a place for when my contract is up from the Navy so I don't have to go back to my parents house in Brooklyn.
Nice bro ... luv d info ... used to live 123rd and Broadway... 👍👍🇬🇾🇬🇾🇺🇸🇺🇸
Please make a video about the best neighborhoods to live in.
I'm poor, but looking for a refreshing lease on life coming from the middle of nowhere in upstate NY. Can't wait to get my lease over with where I am and move to the big city. I'm so excited!
I used to live in Murray Hill and picked that area because it was fairly quiet and safe, yet walk able to Penn Station, Grand Central and midtown office buildings. If you need a car, there are also relatively affordable parking garages east of 3rd Avenue .
That neighborhood isn't far from my job!
I'd love to see tours of both Queens and Brooklyn. Seems those are under represented on UA-cam. Thanks for your videos. Enjoy your content!
Especially Queens. I also wish there were more vegan restaurants out here.
Ever since I saw your videos on park slope I have been obsessed, I know that’s the area I want to live! Family oriented, close to prospect park, a 15 minute car ride from the cruise port... yes please! 🙌
Wait can you spell the name of that neighborhood you mentioned right next to park slope? I think it starts with a G?
You could probably say the same about Boerum Hill/Cobble Hill/Carrol Gardens but something about Park Slope just did it for me (probably the tons of restaurants on 5th/7th ave).
Oh really? Sweet! I’ll do some researching on those places- thanks!
@@2BinNYC Gowanus
@@homerb3368 Thanks! Yeah I’m looking on Zillow and the ones just on the other side of 4th are still classifying it as park slope and there is a price difference. No brownstones though... I wanna feel like I live on Sesame Street 😂
Wishing with moving there man!!! Hi from chile 🇨🇱
These are some great tips! There are some Brooklyn neighborhoods that I really like
Thanks for the early access comment! Which is your fave?
@@HereBeBarr Williamsburg, Bushwick & Morningside Heights are my favorite neighborhoods
@@mrmartywaring Not Bay Ridge? Why not?
Fort Greene and Prospect Heights are also good Brooklyn neighborhoods.
Please make a video on all the neighbors. Thanks
can you do a video on how to navigate apartment hunting (which sites to use), what to look out for (scams)?
Families moving here with school age children need to pick areas that have good public schools. The Upper East Side is known for it's good schools, family parks and great shopping/restaurant options. Rents here are now very affordable. You can find a 1 bedroom for around $1800-2100 in a walk-up and $2400+ in a doorman building which is a real bargain for this area!
Thanks for sharing!
How would one go about comparing the schools in upper east side to another place like park slope?
@@2BinNYC There are many sites which rate schools by test scores, college admissions, etc. Niche.com is very helpful but there are many others. Good luck!
Hey Jon, can you do a video on the neighborhoods? Particularly the more quiet neighborhoods. I know that’s Pretty specific, but I think there are a lot of people out there who are looking for a quiet neighborhood, especially nowadays
Me too. I long for quiet neighborhood.
I used to live under the BQE Expressway. Never again
Murray Hill is great as practically no businesses on side streets do not so noisy abd safe
Bronx would say Allerton Ave and side streets of Pelham Parkway
Look at safety
Police stats free
@@marilynringel9228 Thank you for your input.
People talk about Murray Hill too
Hello dear friend greeting from MACAU CHINA
Thanks so much for great sharing
Full watching and suport
Lol! Your landlord had a lot of nerve to offer you your apt for the same price and if I remember correctly you moved to Park Slope for more room. Then rented it out for $1000 less. Good for you and Adrianna for getting a larger place. I lived in the Bronx many many yrs ago. 182-183 Creston Ave. 1 block over from Gr Concourse. Easy access to #4 train and #1&2 bus plus Express bus used to stop on the corner of the Concourse. If I remember correctly the apts in the Bronx are large too. I moved to The Bronx by way of upstate NY. Grandmother lived in the Bronx. I now live in NC. This was a good video. 👍🏽
Thanks 🙏🏻
yes! make a "which part of NYC is best for you if you're new around here" video! But I'm sure you can come up with a better name haha
I’m definitely staying in prospect lefferts gardens where I grew up or moving to crown heights
Awesome video! We were thinking of moving to Bay Ridge area in Brooklyn. Thoughts on that neighbourhood?
Please make a video on part time Jobs we can pick up in NYC along with all the legal documents required. Thank U.
Sheepshead Bay is a residential neighborhood . It's is decent and Quiet.
I like to go fishing and the boats are a walking distance. The quality of night life changed due to pandemic . I have my fingers crossed that the quality of night life will be back after the pandemic.
Roll N Roaster is still around but take out only Applebee's and other restaurants are doing outdoor dining. Hopefully indoor dining comes back soon but I doubt it.
When this pandemic is over, things will recover, but will not be quite the same. New owners will have taken over restaurants that have shuttered and a new chapter in NYC dining will be born.
Nice video. I'd love to listen to your advise. Where to live with my family (2 children) if I worked at UN HQ?
Thanks!
Maybe to factor in what amenities you should look for in an apartment? What to avoid? I am grateful for having a laundry room in my building.
I live in Greenpoint and it is perfect.
If you are into the Hussle and bustle of Manhattan then it might not be your thing, but it is quiet and you can get to the city within 30 mins either from the G to the L / or the G to the 7
Haven't been to greenpoint in ages. Great area.
I love Greenpoint. It has that village feeling but close to Manhattan. Plenty of restaurants and cafes. Also next to Williamsburg with tons to do.
@@georgiasmith7615 totally, it is one of those neighborhoods that might be occasionally overlooked. When in reality you will probably get a very good deal when first starting out in NYC. A great location for being close enough (but far enough away from Williamsburg) and it being close to LIC and lower Brooklyn makes me give the area an A+
Midwood,& Gravesend nabes in Brooklyn, are so much cheaper than Park Slope or Williamsburg/Greenpoint areas where so many young folks moved, both are near 2 Subways & plenty of Shopping,& even Free street parking on Residential Blocks,as All Commercial Blocks in NYC have Parking Meters,or Restricted Parking,so owning a vehicle is easier in these neighborhoods!
Drawback is distance to manhattan but the prices are better
- commute
- social purposes
- walk around it, area etc
What do you think of Bushwick?
How come people seem to have very different opinion about Bushwick?
Thank you for the COMPASS NYC Neighborhood Guide. Great tip!
Bushwick is a giant area. It varies depending on exactly where in Bushwick.
Would like to see Brownsville Brooklyn- would love to show you around
Email me: herebebarr@gmail.com
Live in Brooklyn!
2 years later theyre high af now , watching this makes me want to cry lmao
Pls make a video for families relocating to ny; outer boroughs preferred. Ty
The 4 most important things for me when picking a neighborhood: First, being close to near subway connection unless you have access to a car. Second is distance, how far you're willing to travel to the city (Manhattan). The closer you live to Manhattan, the more expensive the rent is. Third is conveyance...being close proximity to supermarkets, bars, etc. Fourth is safety. Yes there's a pros and cons to every neighborhood, but there are neighborhoods which the cons outweighs more of the pros.
What do you know about murray hill area and kips Bay? My office is going to be in that area on 39 th st. June move in. Thank you
I always want a apartment near public transportation, a grocery store, laundromat, etc. It maybe hard to find all of these things but it is worth it when I come home from work I am tired I want a grocery store near my place.
better yet, an apt near transportation and a grocery store, and a washer in your apt!
They also offering 3 months for free when sign a 1 year leaseee.
Lol I know which one is best for me. Either in Chinatown Manhattan, 8 ave in Brooklyn, Flushing, or in Bensonhurst lol. Since the one I listed do have a Asian population.
I'm waiting until I finish college to consider moving to New York City.
When do you think is the best time to start looking for a place to stay, and begin searching for work or unless you have a job in NY already.
Moving to Midtown Manhattan next year with my best friend Nawar Toppa
I can imagine with the cuts to the metro that commuters will suffer. It will add to commuting times if the trains are fewer with more times between trains.
That's still an on-going issue. I will say that taking the subway yesterday it's starting to feel more and more like old times, about 50% full at least now.
Many places do have connections to local & express busses, or even dollar cabs in Brooklyn. Don't be a lazy snob & take the bus.
Very simple. Take a walk in that neighborhood, in the summer, at night, on the weekend. If it's loud, rowdy and dirty, it's going to be like that all the time.
It a lot cheaper in Dallas, Texas then New York, New York even with the prices going up over here in Dallas with so many moving here
Don’t rule out the Bronx!! I’m looking at concourse, highbridge, tremont among my Manhattan options of el barrio, Washington heights, inwood (edit: and dt Brooklyn)
here is a tip right off the back to know if the Neighborhood if bad. if the Neighborhood has a liquor stores with in every few blocks. to the point there are more than 8 liquor stores in a small walk that is a sign of a Neighborhood to stay away from.
Alphabet city between c and d is the best neighbourhood by far in NYC bar none. I would recommend it to anyone. Walking distance from almost everything saving fortune on fairs. People you might need to see daily literally on your doorstep? Can't beat it for convenience.
I’m not sure why I don’t jump. I will only get Street easy on my phone for years during lull time is at work. I would prefer the upper Westside or Hells kitchen area not the east side of Manhattan at all. Yes I’m in eighth or 9th St., Sorry, eighth or ninth Avenue type of guy.My age doesn’t bother me at all because I have no expectations of labels or love whatever happens will be a wonderful surprise. Closest subway access is important to me because the weather would be different well will be different than California. I am certain I will need a small monitor television device set of the weather at all times so I can prepare and not become aggravated. I think the Upper Westside would do nicely a studio with some prewar touches, the abundance of shops of all kinds, Ennius quieter which is what I am more used to.
Looking to move to nyc we are a family of 6 (kids ages 14-4) what area do you see fit best for a family with kids of all ages?
Two guys in a 350 sq ft apartment. You could join the submarine corps and get spacious living accommodations. You could goto the zoo and say to the animals in pens, "I feel your pain!" But, if you want to live in NYC that bad. Well. Adapt.
