A long time ago, when I was in early elementary school, my class put on a presentation of the Finlandia Hymn, which is part of this piece of music. Recently, I finally found the words.
Oh Finland, behold, thy daylight is dawning,
the threat of night has now been driven away.
The skylark sings across the light of morning,
like the firmament itself was chiming,
and now the day the powers of night is scorning:
    thy daylight dawns, oh motherland!
Oh Finland arise, and raise towards the highest
thy head now crowned with mighty memories.
Oh Finland arise, for to the world thou criest
that thou hast thrown off thy slavery,
beneath oppression's yoke thou never liest.
    Thy morning's come, motherland!

Absolutely adore this music by one of the greatest composers of all time but having grown up with the Ormandy/Philadelphia Orch recording from the late 70's I find every other performance wanting. Ormandy infuses a drive and passion that transcends all others, particularly in the remarkable first movement. No disrespect to the late Alexander Gibson who was a great advocate of Sibelius and gave many wonderful performances.

You may be aware that Ormandy was Sibi’s favorite conductor and his great promoter in USA.

@@waynegranvillesmith8535 Course, Sib had a tendency to 'say that to all the girls'. He also included Herbie, and other great conductors who came to tea at Ainola.

Possibly the greatest of all British Sibelius conductors. That's saying a lot.

Interested to know why you consider him better than Beecham or Colin Davis?

The last 10 minutes were a meant to depict the industrial and other achievements of the Grand Duchy of Finland in the 1890s, as it happens.
