@@sheilamccarthy5473 Exactly! I like how he manipulates the moods throughout the album. So many beautiful chord progressions and heavy themes and lyrics. I also think Cellular + Supermarché + Stoned Again is a great way to start the album
My favorites in no specific order: •Man Alive! - King Krule •The New Abnormal - The Strokes •Fetch The Bolt Cutters - Fiona Apple •Alles In Allem - Einsturzende Neubauten •RTJ4 - Run The Jewels •Purple Moon Pages - R.A.P. Great list, especially Purple Moonlight Pages. I'd add RTJ4 by Run the Jewels, Alfredo by Freddie Gibbs & Alchemist, We're New Again: A Reimagining by Makaya McCraven, Zopp by Zopp and We Are Sent Here by History by Shabaka Hutchings.
Yves Tumour, Ka and Rina Sawayama were standouts for me. Although I still haven't listened to something that can really compare to Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Yeah, Rina just didn’t click with me. It’s subpar early 2000’s pop with some random dashes of metal. It’s just a lil gimmicky. It doesn’t make me want to dance or thrash. I definitely could see myself loving something from her in the future.
If I were to boil it down to 15, as of right now, it's (in no particular order): HMLTD - West Of Eden Against All Logic - 2017 - 2019 The Weeknd - After Hours Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia Hilary Woods - Birthmark Nicolas Jaar - Cenizas Laura Marling - Song For Our Daughter Rina Sawayama - Sawayama Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters Oranssi Pazuzu - Mestarin kynsi Charli XCX - How I’m Feeling Now Perfume Genius - Set My Heart On Fire Immediately Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated Side B Backxwash - God Has Nothing To Do With This Leave Him Out Of It Lady Gaga - Chromatica Now please destroy my self esteem!
For me my favourites have been Holy Hive - Broom Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher Draag Me - I Am Struggling With My life JFDR - New Dreams So excited for more new great tunes
For me, my favourites so far have been: Spanish Love Songs: Brave Faces Everyone. An album that proves no one every really outgrows an emo phase and there will always be a place in my heart for this kind of music. Sewerslvt: Draining Love Story. Probably the most underrated album so far for me, it's a beautifully ambient hour of drum and bass that blows me away with its intense maturity and moodiness. The Strokes: The New Abnormal. This is the first Strokes album that doesn't feel like it's in the shadow of Is This It, and for that, it straight away became my second favourite of theirs. Laura Marling: Song for our Daughter. To me this album is the epitome of not doing anything new, but just being so well written that you can't deny how great it is. Run The Jewels: RTJ4. We may be getting a Kendrick album later this year, but I think even that will struggle to be as culturally relevant and lyrically powerful of a rap album as this. This is easily the best RTJ album we've had so far for me. Fiona Apple: Fetch the Bolt Cutters. Yeah, you knew this would be on everyone's list, but that's just a testament to how fantastic it is. Very rarely am I drawn to music predominantly on a lyrical basis, but this is just lyrically stunning.
Favorites of the year so far: 1. Circles - Mac Miller 2. After Hours - The Weeknd 3. Pray for Paris - Westside Gunn 4.RTJ4 5. Alfredo - Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist 6. SAWAYAMA - Rina Sawayama

Favorite records of 2020 so far. Sons of Appolo-MMXX Prog Rock/Metal Supergroup with their second album which is a huge improvement on the first. Pat Metheny-From This Place This is very much like his other work in his now retired band Pat Metheny Group, but with newer faces and he has an orchestra backing him as well. Kenny Barron-Without Deception Honestly didn't know who Kenny Baron was, but I heard he had Dave Holland on it and that was enough to give it a go. Honestly it's one of my favorite Piano Trio records ever now. Even went back to look at Kenny Baron's past work and found another great artist in the process Testament-Titans Of Creation Testament's since Chuck Billy's comeback from Cancer in the mid 2000's has been fantastic releasing a great album every four years like clockwork since 2008 and this was no exception. It's a must if you love Thrash.

Grae might be my favorite album of the last three years. Have loved Sumney ever since stumbling across him at a free show back in 2016, and it feels like he's finally reaching the height of his artistry. Grae is a quiet storm of an album, tender but overwhelming. Its equal parts experimental and nostalgic, layered and bare. Sumney's talent for musical world-building has never been more on dispplay, and the result is beautiful
Jeff Rosenstock - No Dream Rina Sawayama - Sawayama Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated Side B Laura Marling - Song For Our Daughter Run The Jewels - RTJ4 And many more. Boy, this year is crazy
Man I discovered so much from your list... I had so much trouble finding good albums this year, This list really changed things for me right now. Like, were these albums actively trying to hide from me? Lol I'm sure at the end of the year most of my favorite albums of the year are gonna the ones I discovered from this video
Caribou - Suddenly Denzel Curry - UNLOCKED Nicolas Jaar - Cenizas Brent Faiyaz - Fuck the World Little Simz - Drop 6 Chicano Batman - Invisible People Tom Misch, Yussef Dayes - What Kinda Music Shabazz Palaces - The Don of Diamond Dreams Kari Faux - Lowkey Superstar
You have all of my top 4, except for my number 2, Songs For Our Daughter by Laura Marling. Such a beautiful and raw album. Lyrically, Laura is very emotional and poetic. And each instrumental is extremely lush and beautiful. It's overall a very emotionally raw album that is very beautiful and easy going at the same time.
Have you heard the new Dan Deacon album? It's called Mystic Familiar and it's my favorite album of the year so far. Cindy Lee' What's Tonight to Eternity and FACS's Void Moments are fantastic 2020 albums as well.
In no particular order, my favorites so far this year are the new albums by Fiona Apple, The Strokes, Destroyer, Caribou, Mac Miller, Laura Marling, Perfume Genius, Tennis, and Georgia. Then again I haven't heard most of your list so I'll have to check a lot of those out at some point. Seeking Thrills by Georgia I specifically think is super underrated, it fills a similar niche to me as Body Talk does even if it isn't as consistently great.
My top 5 albums of the year so far: King Krule - Man Alive! Nudie Mag - Our Milk Three Knee Deep - Three Knee Deep Drain - California Cursed Four Tet - Sixteen Oceans really looking forward to seeing your Best of 2020 at the end of the year!
My Top 10 so far: Paysage d'Hiver - Im Wald Marrasmieli - Between Land and Sky Ulcerate - Stare Into Death and Be Still Cirith Ungol - Forever Black Sewerslvt - Draining Love Story Against All Logic - 2017 - 2019 Thy Catafalque - Naiv tricot - 真っ黒 (Makkuro) Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts V: Together Horse Lords - The Common Task
the Laura Marling record this year really took me by surprise. I was expecting some more in the vein of LUMP where I discovered her but the album is a striped back singer songwriter type with a lot of emotion and beautiful music. One of the best in years and it beat the Francis Quinlan solo record for best singer songwriter record of the year for me. Great stuff.
Someone finally giving Obongjayar’s EP the recognition it deserves! I wish it was a full album so badly... A great list here of releases I have heard and ones that are new to me which is always exciting. Perfume Genius is definitely my favourite album of the year so far. Noticing your copies of Wire in the background, have you checked out Loud and Quiet before? Another great albeit smaller publication that focuses on mostly the UK’s music scenes. Also, fuck you for nabbing that Speedy Wunderground patch, had my eye on one for so long only to load up the page to buy one and find they’d sold out!

@@sheilamccarthy5473 Exactly! I like how he manipulates the moods throughout the album. So many beautiful chord progressions and heavy themes and lyrics. I also think Cellular + Supermarché + Stoned Again is a great way to start the album
wow your music knowledge is incredible and your use of language is incredible. i love your videos so much
Yeah dude. After listening to Oliver´s use of language I feel like I have to go listen to mumble rappers to compensate
My favorites in no specific order:
•Man Alive! - King Krule
•The New Abnormal - The Strokes
•Fetch The Bolt Cutters - Fiona Apple
•Alles In Allem - Einsturzende Neubauten
•RTJ4 - Run The Jewels
•Purple Moon Pages - R.A.P. Ferreira

•Mystic Familiar - Dan Deacon
•Home Body - Dope Body

God bless Dan Deacon, saved my soul from these times. Saw him live right before shutdown
these are all awesome !
I really wish I liked Sawayama but it really fell flat for me. Those other two are great records.
Yeah, Rina just didn’t click with me. It’s subpar early 2000’s pop with some random dashes of metal. It’s just a lil gimmicky. It doesn’t make me want to dance or thrash. I definitely could see myself loving something from her in the future.
Love all the records you cited. SAWAYAMA is absolutely great
I enjoyed Rina’s debut project more than this year’s, but I think there’s stuff to love from her across the board
Yves Tumor album is killer.
If I were to boil it down to 15, as of right now, it's (in no particular order):
HMLTD - West Of Eden
Against All Logic - 2017 - 2019
The Weeknd - After Hours
Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia
Hilary Woods - Birthmark
Nicolas Jaar - Cenizas
Laura Marling - Song For Our Daughter
Rina Sawayama - Sawayama
Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Oranssi Pazuzu - Mestarin kynsi
Charli XCX - How I’m Feeling Now
Perfume Genius - Set My Heart On Fire Immediately
Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated Side B
Backxwash - God Has Nothing To Do With This Leave Him Out Of It
Lady Gaga - Chromatica
Now please destroy my self esteem!
Yes to HMLTD
@@gammondragon8080 surprised I haven't seen it on more people's lists, that album is amazing
I mean since u want ur self esteem destroyed
"Nice fantano-core"
@@sergiocoutinho806 absolutely, saw them live before covid ruined everything and they were just breathtaking
Backxwash - God Has Nothing To Do With This Leave Him Out Of It - this was surprisingly a cool ghostly vibe from a hip-hop record
For me my favourites have been
Holy Hive - Broom
Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher
Draag Me - I Am Struggling With My life
JFDR - New Dreams
So excited for more new great tunes
For me, my favourites so far have been:
Spanish Love Songs: Brave Faces Everyone.
All these albums are boring affffffffff
The Strokes album is so great
Cheers for the Sewerslvt, fantastic album
Yeah that Fiona Apple album. "I spread like strawberries, I climb like peas and beans" 😤🤧
yessss brave faces everyone!!! so glad mark at spectrum pulse covered it, i rly like it (not quite aoty for me but in the running!)!

Spanish Love Songs - Brave Faces, Everyone
Ka - The Descendants of Cain
RTJ - RTJ4 (obvious, but necessary)

Someone likes their blackgaze ;)
I wanna get into black metal and black gaze, where should i start? 🤩
@@gabiocampos Deafheaven and Alcest are fantastic places to start for blackgaze, and can help lean you into black metal proper. Check out Sunbather and Ecailles De Lune. hey Oliver, I really love your channel and really got excited for your recent return♥️ anyways, I have two recommendations for you, one is the debut album from El Shirota: "Tiempos Raros" wich is noise rock, and "Si tan sólo supiera por qué estoy aquí" from Sonic Emerson, wich has a kind of psychedelic shoegaze feel. both are really great albums by really talented mexican artists and released this year. peace and love.
These were very good too imo:
Nicolás Jaar - Cenizas

Some of my fav albums to come out this year: Squarepusher- Be Up A Hello, Tricot- Black, FSOL- A Controlled Vista, Yage(FSOL alias)- Pygmy EP. Can’t think of more atm, but I’ve been listening to these a lot the past 6 months.
Be Up A Hello was amazing
fuzzy babies I wasn’t sure about to at first, but a lot of tracks have slowly grown on me. It’s amazing what he’s able to make when using his 90s analogue year.
The set my heart on fire immediately album cover looks just like you. I can't have this image erased from my memory.
I know right. That's what I thought when I saw the thumbnail. Mike looks like Oliver.
Excellent year so far! My favorites:
Paysage d'Hiver - Im Wald
Aksak Maboul - Figures
P Rosa - The Kinspiral
Against all Logic - 2017-2019
Jonah Parzen Johnson - Imagine Giving Up
1 Mile North - Tomb & Cocoons
The Gerogerigegege - Piss Shower Girlfriend
Charli XCX - How Im Feeling Now
Aidan Baker & Gareth Davis - Invisible Cities II
Nice picks oliver, will devote some listening time to these!
Jeff Rosenstock - No Dream
Rina Sawayama - Sawayama
Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated Side B
Laura Marling - Song For Our Daughter
Run The Jewels - RTJ4
And many more.
Caribou - Suddenly
Denzel Curry - UNLOCKED
Nicolas Jaar - Cenizas
Brent Faiyaz - Fuck the World
Little Simz - Drop 6
Chicano Batman - Invisible People
Tom Misch, Yussef Dayes - What Kinda Music
Shabazz Palaces - The Don of Diamond Dreams
Kari Faux - Lowkey Superstar
A few more worth checking out:
Destroyer __ Have We Met
Andy Shauf __ The Neon Skyline
Hamilton Leithauser __ The loves of your life
You have all of my top 4, except for my number 2, Songs For Our Daughter by Laura Marling.
My top 5 albums of the year so far:
King Krule - Man Alive!
Nudie Mag - Our Milk
Three Knee Deep - Three Knee Deep
Drain - California Cursed
Four Tet - Sixteen Oceans
really looking forward to seeing your Best of 2020 at the end of the year!
My Top 10 so far:
Paysage d'Hiver - Im Wald
Marrasmieli - Between Land and Sky
Ulcerate - Stare Into Death and Be Still
Cirith Ungol - Forever Black
Sewerslvt - Draining Love Story
Against All Logic - 2017 - 2019
Thy Catafalque - Naiv
tricot - 真っ黒 (Makkuro)
Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts V: Together
Horse Lords - The Common Task
The new tricot is amazing
the Laura Marling record this year really took me by surprise.
