I’m glad you followed up with this. Broke my heart to watch such a lack of empathy. I have watched my own life whittle away from the same disease. Lyme disease and co infections were once best described like this..
“When people get aids they don’t want to die but they do. When you have Lyme, you want to die but can’t.”
The saddest part is that there is absolutely no research being done despite millions of people living every day with it. I won’t even go down that rabbit hole. This song, at a minimum, shines light on those who are living in hell and maybe, just maybe, it’s a step towards a cure. I pray you never have to experience what I live everyday.

It's not exactly a lack of empathy when they don't understand the context, I'm not trying to diminutize your struggles but I watched this entire video and after about the halfway point of the original video, they clearly understood that there was a struggle that Ren was going through and they weren't being unempathetic

@@Xtreme4Life I would probably watch it, I've watched hundreds of reactions to Rens music, and sometimes their may be similarities, but everyone is their own brain, their own unique individual. Editing is probably where you could look at your first reaction the most as you stated not watching it beforehand or doing backstory, and I respect it. Don't let haters get you down, do what you want to do, and be who you are going to be. On the scale of being human being, nobody is above or below others, we are just simply human beings. Thank you for BOTH videos. P.S HIGHLY SECOND the Jenny and Screech Tales (full) trilogy, you'll both love it, cheers!

The whole song is ironically about the complexities of being human and you just did what everyone has done at some point and can relate to, you didn't know you were about to be taken down a deep journey. It is an oh shit moment when you do realize you are listening to what can only be described as a piece of perfect art with the amount of honest vulnerability it contains. It was actually recorded live, its something he does on all his videos. I'm glad you kept the original reaction up and did this, it's really sincere bro and that's rare in many reaction channels ! The door opens to the street on the internet, but most people would have realized you had been knocked off base in your first reaction and clearly had not listened to it previously. How about that an actual real 'first time' reaction :)
Your original reaction can be just described as confusion. You just weren't expecting that and couldn't process it straight away !

Listen, I get why people came at you for the last video. This song and this artist means a lot to a lot of people, so they are very protective of him and this song. The internet makes it easy to react quickly and strongly. When I saw your first reaction, I admittedly was a little annoyed at first, but I watched the full reaction. I could tell that you both were caught off guard by the style and didn’t realize what he was up to at first. Sometimes we laugh and joke when we don’t know how to take things in. I also noticed that you both pretty quickly started to engage more seriously when you started to realize what was going on. I respect your ability to actually take in criticism and reflect on it. I think it’s easy to become defensive, but it’s much more difficult to pause and ask hard questions of yourself, whether or not you changed your mind, you seem to have really considered what people had to say, and that’s important. Don’t beat yourself up, we’re all human beings. It’s meaningful that you reflected and shared that reflection.

At the end of the day, your reaction was your truth, the job of artisans is to make you uncomfortable to wake up a new part of you that is out of your comfort zone. The beauty of HI REN is that he got the world talking about it and that we are not alone in these conflicts that go on within ourselves. By the end of your reaction, you guys really "Got It" the journey is the music, his spoken word is very very musical, even the characters he portrays are very musical. This is a composition, he is a modern day composer, it is Rock Opera in a New Way. Tommy (The Who) Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) but, he stripped all the flash away and showed us the 'UGLY" he has been living in and because his art is music, he told this story in the most poetic and beautiful form. Your comments are fine, they were ignorant at times, we are all guilty of be judgmental at times, but in the end you "Got It" that is some great shit my friend!

Keep doing your thing, you two are just one of us. I think Hi Ren has touched so many people for it's content, theatrics and Ren's overall musical talent and people like me who never heard of him a month ago are watching reactions chasing the dragon so to speak, trying to get back that wonder we had when we first saw it. The backlash you got was probably unexpected and unfair in many respects but there's nothing you can do about that.

Although this wasn’t needed by any means, I really appreciate it. I’ve always wondered if reactors that didn’t view it as a song (you weren’t the first) changed their mind later on. Even though I thought of it as a song from the beginning and was really excited to hear more of his music, I don’t know if I really pictured myself listening to it on Spotify. I still added it to my playlist and sing along every time it comes on, I’m hooked on Ren.
I’ve been subscribing to most of the people reacting to Ren, but didn’t during the 1st video because I thought your channel just wasn’t for me. Again, although this 2nd video wasn’t necessary because the 1st was your true reaction (just wasn’t for me, personally), I did subscribe during this one because this is my thing and I’ve always wanted to know if anyone changes their mind afterwards.
Also, Ren has no issues with reactors monetizing the reactions. That’s not Ren claiming it. The 3rd party has nothing to do with Ren. That’s happened to a couple of reaction channels, even after Ren, who’s an independent artist, has commented giving permission.

This shows the impact this track can have..good and bad even if it's not in the initial moment you watch it. Don't be so hard on yourself bro much respect for explaining everything. I usually subscribe to all Ren reactors but didn't sub after your initial reaction. Now I believe you earned it with your open honesty. Liked and subscribed, Looking forward to more content ✌ ❤ 💪

Just like different songs awaken different emotions with different people, i guess it's the same with peoples' reactions to those songs...
Stand by the work you did, regardless how people like or dislike it!
"if you haven't gone through more than just a couple of bad days in your life, you'll listen to this song...
If you've gone through depressions, anxiety, PTSD or any other mental illness, you'll hear this song...
If you've suffered mental illness to the point where that voice in your head that is telling you "You Gotta Kill You If You Wanna Kill Me" starts making sense, you'll actually feel this song"
Much respect for coming back to set the record straight!

We all have an evil side that preys on the weakness and failures of others. We are human. That’s what we watch UA-cam for. But as a reaction channel then a blank sympathetic side must be present when reacting. Ren has commented on most reactions personally as a show of gratitude and appreciation and due to your lack of empathy you have missed out on the recognition. @jonasmandersson Рік тому +13

You live you learn. We’re all human beings. I like your effort.
I think there were a few separate things that created the dynamics for a shitstorm.
    1. Expectations. A lot of ppl - like myself - have watched a LOT of reactions to this video over the past months. I think most of us go into watching a reaction wanting the reactor to react in a certain way. I wish I was more openminded, so that’s on me.
    2. The thumbnail. Looking at it, I think it fed the expectations of an emotional reaction - in another way than the emotions that you started the reaction with.
    3. Your own expectations, coming in to this. You already covered it, and hopefully it was a learning experience. Not just for your channel, but for life in general. You never know the inner struggle of others, stay humble, listen more and talk less.
    4. The talking. For everyone who’s already seen Hi Ren, it’s very obvious that the lyrics are pretty damn important. You didn’t know that coming into the reaction, and it was annoying to see you talk over some parts.
I was kind of harsh on you guys in the comments, and that was my own disappointment talking. I think it’s great that you did this video, even though I still don’t agree with you on everything.
Good luck with your channel, and I hope you don’t take it too hard. It’s a pendulum, you know.

I think they should be free to do honest reactions without a bunch of idolising, fascist, Ren fans piling in on them.
They need to just grow the fuck up and accept the fact that people have different tastes.
Personally I think it’s difficult to think of another artist who is as accomplished a musician as Ren in so many different fields of music. That still doesn’t mean he is for everybody.

    • @jonasmandersson
      @jonasmandersson Рік тому +1

      @supertuscans9512 Рік тому +1

There is some music that a lot of other people like but I just can’t bring myself to listen to because it just grates from the first 30 seconds.
I think however even people who say don’t like Hi Ren, sick boi or The Jenny trilogy would most likely find something in REN’s catalogue they like if they could be bothered to look, because his output is so eclectic, but obviously some will be so turned off, they’re not going to go there.
I can see how REN’s lyrics could turn a lot of people off because they could be viewed as somewhat moralising or even childish at times.
The odd thing for me with Ren, is that Hip Hop isn’t a genre I typically listen to but I can’t stop listening to both ‘losing it’ and ‘The Hunger’ cos I Think they are brilliant.

Don't be too hard on yourself. There's a lot of fans who are emotionally invested in the whole Ren experience and some may be clinging on a little too tight becoming a tad over protective, defensive or even volatile to anything deemed less than their level of adoration. I'm diagnosed with schizophrenia and have experienced multiple bouts of psychosis. I've had to shovel through a tonne of meds over the years and at times things are far from pretty. I admit I'm super invested into Ren's work. I struggle not to cry just listening to his tunes as his lyrics feel very personal. You said clearly you've not experienced anything like what Ren was expressing including addiction. As the song progressed you felt the importance of the piece and how it would be significant for many. A fair reaction in my eyes.
Anyone responding negatively needs to chill the fuck down and ask yourself what Ren would think of you going on the attack in his name? If you're as a bigger fan as I am then the answer will be very clear. Relax friends. Much love to all

Reading these comments has been so refreshing. People understanding and being kind with their words when someone has a different reaction or opinion to themselves.
Almost as refreshing and inspiring as listening to Ren's song.
I've never watched reaction videos before until seeing one posted on Ren's fb page. A reaction by the guy from The Darkness. Since then I've become addicted. Often the reactions start off feeling fake, with people reacting how they feel the audience would expect them to react, or super over the top.... But I love it how, as the song goes on, they get drawn in and the reactions become genuine and real.... Just like the song......so so refreshing and so heartening in a world that is filled with so much plastic and fakery.
Anyway, just love reading the respect and kindness everyone is showing. ✨

I have suspected some others reaction videos are not 1st time seen as claimed (slips out when they are making comments). So from me please keep reacting and being genuine. Kudos to you for doing this video but you really should have had to.

There is a big difference - watching something alone or with a company. I usually dont let myself feel or express vulnerable if I watch a movie, a clip or a song together with other person. So I perfectly understand that the "duo atmosphere" sometimes builds a Wall between the artistic substance and you. Some people might find that it wasnt necessary for you to explain your initial reactions... But I dont think that you were wrong doing this. When you watched the vid for the first time the most important thing for you was to keep in touch with your partner and honest and powerful art sometimes feels like a "danger". you can not let yourself open your inner gates, you feel that it might brake something inside and you just can not let yourself break when you are in a protective mode with your woman. But, when you are on your own - that`s another story. When I was younger - I was crying a lot when noone was watching me. But when I was in a company - they wouldnt see my tears. Keep up your work and all the best for you.

I think your wife's sustained laughter was at his opening high pitched vocal part. I've watched many reactions to this video, and every single reactor is surprised, and even confused, by how unusual and unexpected it is. Your wife is the only one who seemed to be ridiculing it. She was laughing so hard and so long, that she seemed to miss a lot of it. I was turned off and a little pissed off by that. I appreciate you doing this reaction to the reaction. It does make me feel a little less angry about the first one. I would say that your wife should attempt to suppress her laughter at something that catches her off guard. She appeared to later be moved by the song, but her initial laughter killed it.

good for you for being real enough to admit that you didn't get it when you first watched it. I feel like so many people claim to have "went in blind" but the level of understanding they had about the more nuanced aspects of the video really made it not seem genuine and that they had taken notes from other reactors who had taken tips from other reactors. I believe that anyone who understands the context will understand that this is a piece of artwork and probably one of the top 100 pieces of music that has come out in the last 10 years. But I can totally understand why someone who isn't into this would think it's shit on first listen when it starts, and let's be honest; if a song doesn't grab you in the first 15-20 seconds most people generally stop paying attention

    People have different opinions.
Ren is a talented singer rapper and musician, not just my opinion but many more qualified musically. I fell in love with all his output after watching HiRen. He is so much more than his diagnoses, was born with this music.
I got so bored of mainstream stuff that I stopped listening to most of it.
I am addicted to this and was hurt by the initial reaction. But that's okay.
You have different influences and tastes thats okay. I chose to be not interested in your channel for that reason.

I dont think you should delete the first. If you do anything with it add a disclaimer to the beginning saying "hey this was our initial blind reaction. After realizing the content of the song I went back and made a second video about our initial reaction." Ive watched a lot of reactions of this video and a lot have had the initial reaction that yours did as far as the wtf am I watching.. Giggles or mockery of the beginning vocal. I think where yours became off putting to people, or at least me was that reaction/emotion carried over and was drowning out further content of the song. Watching reactions I fully expect the video to be paused, thoughts shared, comments made, parts rewound. So I am seeing your take on the whole song not just the bits you are catching between reacting to previous parts. I think that was the biggest difference between your video and a lot of the others I watched and enjoyed. I did watch the whole thing so I know the reaction at the end was quite different from the first half. I guess my thoughts are if you have a strong reaction to a specific part of a video.. Pause it react.. REEL IT IN. Then continue. That way you arent missing things and your reactions to one moment wont be misconstrued as your reaction to the whole. Just my personal thoughts/advise. I do second what another comment said about the thumbnail.. It drives me crazy when thumbnails aren't from the actual content I am about to watch but that happens all the time. Best of luck to you!

Introspection is a great thing, we should all do it, with that said, doing so is one of the hardest things for most people to do, so kudos to you! It is kind of one of the points of this masterpiece, that we are human beings, Jesus said , do unto to others as you would have them do unto you! That's karma baby!! if you treat people lightly with no care, expect the same thing in return. Now that's a lesson we all need, like Ren said some people are victims, and some are students. Life is a lesson, the quicker you learn, the easier it gets, but there is always going to be pitfalls, that's human nature. 💗

I've seen a couple of 'don't like it' reactions and I just switched off. They are entitled to their opinion but both gave very few clear reasons for not liking. I thought you got caught off guard and you both then got drawn in and that was fascinating. I'm sorry if you got abusive/unkind comments. I can see your channel is important to you and your reputation is too. Remember opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one. You won't benefit from taking those comments to heart. Filter the constructive criticism from the unpleasant/subjective criticism. Basically I'm saying I agree, you don't need to apologise. I was irritated at first because you weren't ready, and I wasn't ready for your reaction but you did grow to understand what it was about. And then I went and got a cup of tea, the world revolves. Shit happens, let it go. Overall I liked your original reaction because it was raw and we could see you, isn't that what the song is about? As many people before said, stop beating yourself about the reaction to your first video and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DELETE IT. Yes, of course, the beginning of it was irritating for anybody who already seen the whole video and knew where it is going, because of the a complete mismatch of your attitude with what was coming - BUT YOU DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS COMING. You were in a completely difference place and mood, you did not get it in the beginning you were just like "what is this crap???". And it was honest! Nobody wants fake reactions! Yes, the viewers might be deceived sometimes, but as soon as they realise reactions are fake, they gonna abandon such reactor. Your job as a reactor is not to say you like what other people like, it is to 1. understand what you are watching 2. react honestly. Yes, if one clearly does not understand what they are watching and still forms strong negative opinions about it, there will be justified backlash, but that is something completely different then just people disliking your reaction because you dislike what they like - such people can go to... go their own way. And the main point was you came around and understood it! Your wife explicitely said "obviously I wouldn't be laughing about that [mental illness]..." so at this point you clearly did not get it yet. But later on you got it! And yes, I won't lie, in the beginning I was also irritated by your reactions and thought about stopping watching it, but then I watched it to the end and gave you a thumbs up. And it was exceptional and valuable compared to million other reactions exactly because you were so unprepared and this song had to break through your initial very strong resistance!

I say this as another ADHDer...
You need to step back from this. You said your bit, but how you are responding and letting folks get under your skin enough to bicker in comments is not who I think you want to be.
That said, I think that it's good that you went back and looked at your own reaction with a critical eye...but RSD manifests itself not only in internalising minor criticisms from others but also in self-sabotage...and lashing out at folks in comments is a form of self-sabotage that feeds into the self-fulfilling prophecy that we are worthless, no one likes us, we suck, we are going to fail, etc.
Just let it sit for a few days and don't engage until you've had some time away to focus on you, spending time with your family, etc. If you take that time, I'm sure you won't feel the need to emotionally respond to every little dig. It's better for your brain, my man, trust me.

The last 2 days were not fun or inspiring. You should see the comments that UA-cam filtered out. This makes me look at Rens fandom in a different light and not want me to ever give his music a chance again…. But on the other side of the coin I like to self improve and become a better dad, boss, UA-camr, and overall person which is the reason I hit record and watched my original reaction video. Thank you again for reaching out!

@@Xtreme4Life I think the thing is that Ren's music has reached a lot of people and made them feel seen for the first time...or like they aren't alone. I can understand why it could lead to an over protectiveness. That still doesn't give people the right to be nasty, but at least offers a perspective of where they may be coming from to somewhat temper it, maybe.
Don't let them keep you from exploring more of his music (even if you don't do it for reactions) because part of why I'm so keen on his stuff is he's a fellow ADHDer, so he's always chasing the dopamine and switching things up so that it keeps the mind engaged.

You must have received some negative feedback, and also experienced some regret, if you felt the need to address a reaction video; if it was a review produced in retrospect I'm pretty sure the comments you wished you hadn't made would have been edited out.
And focusing on what a reaction is, it is a response to something external that you have no control over, and which you can't anticipate, predict, or decide, how it is going to impact your emotions, or what behavior will be manifested. An obvious example is the variety of ways a person can process grief, and how expectations of the response to grief can be misconstrued, due to behavior not aligning with emotions.
I'm reminded of a friend of mine, who at the age of about 15 was attending church and the vicar (or priest, I'm not sure of the denomination) announced that a longtime attender had passed, and his immediate reaction was laughter, although it didn't align with his feelings.
I don't think this video was necessary, but it's clear that the material Ren produced was a motivating factor. And I don't think there is any reason to delete the reaction video (although I confess I cringed when you stated it was time for his medication).
This is getting long so I'll wrap it up! Neither what I'm writing now, nor your video above would have existed if Ren hadn't released a video for a song. I'd never heard of Ren a month ago but it is clear that he is incredibly talented musically, is superb at writing lyrics, and is a powerful and convincing performer. This really is a work of art. And now I'm better acquainted with his other music, I know this song is no exception. I really hope the treatment he is receiving is beneficial, because I selfishly want to see and hear as much of his art as I can; but just as much, pain may be inevitable, but suffering isn't, and I don't want him, or anyone else, to experience it. Hope everyone who has read this far has a good day, and a better future!

chill dude, there are bigger things to be concerned with in life...... I initially really disliked you and your wifes reaction in the first minute or so... but you came round... the issue was the disrespect to a persons creative output and with this piece in particular it really means something deep to people who suffer with these things... it is more than just a song, but you didn't know that going in. It is usually better to not mock people just cos you didn't get it... anyway relax with it.... we are just human after all

I didn't watch your initial reaction, just this one. I didn't see much wrong aside from maybe the ill-placed medicine comment, but I think even that is explainable.
You went in with a certain (happy) mindset and that changed as the story was told. I've seen plenty of reactions start with similar, or WTF, or more mocking tone but change once it started unfold. By the end almost all of them (that are paying attention) are stunned, mostly quiet, and amazed by this piece of work. I saw the same thing with your reaction. I wouldn't be surprised if it made you even more emotional for the Linkin Park song. Ren made the mental health struggle real and relatable, and it's an uncomfortable subject for many people for many reasons, and I kind of suspect that's why the medicine comment at the end - humour as a means to break the tension.
That being said, I won't like your video, and I hope it's your most un-liked (not thumbs down, just not hitting the like button) so that you don't delete the original. :)

I’ve just watched both. I honestly don’t think you needed to do this vid, your reaction is your reaction I’ve seen probably 200 of these now and there’s many that see it the same way. Let’s be honest the start is not normal if you’re expecting to listen to ‘a normal song’ so it is actually weird. But Rens ren and he’s just different and that is why he’s loved because he’s not a plasticine sheep, he’s a Shepard and does things his way. Anyways you won’t read this but thought I’d write anyways. Gonna look to see if you have any other Ren now.

I haven't cringed at a reaction so much ever. Have the courtesy to listen before you comment. I had to switch the reaction off because she angered me so much. Then you talked to each other through parts of it.
You have to be qualified if you're going to comment on someone's artwork without alienating your whole audience.
