      zukodude487987 some of the viruses that they carry might potentially have integrase that could merge the virulent DNA with our own, existing as a provirus

    Serious question
    How tf do they get the number of mosquitoes in an area? Do they mark the ones counted? Do an air count? Or conduct a mosquito census?

    I did get mosquitos released in my neighborhood. Not entirely sure of the brand though. This season always holds a lot of discomfort in the form of bites, but comparing to previous seasons me and my family have experienced less overall. Not exactly a great measure, but an expected result nonetheless.

      Lol... Because mosquitoes are likely to crossbreed with other mosquito species.... and produce viable offspring at that... (all of which is unlikely when they can breed within their own species as is biologically best). OX513A is built to breed with Aeges Aegypti females, not Chocolate Midge FLIES and not other mosquitoes.

    • @Bobbylim323
      @Bobbylim323 7 років тому +2

      Fruitarian Hiv is spread differently from the viruses that mosquitoes carry and cancer is not even a virus (though it can be caused by viruses during DNA integration) Hiv is difficult to eradicate due to the fact that the reverse transcriptase that it contains does not proofread, leading to a high rate of mutation. So drugs targeting specific parts of the Hiv proteins would be obselote in no time. Cancer is caused by a mutation in the tumour repressor gene and the proto oncogene gene in somatic cells and is difficult to eliminate cuz it's difficult to pinpoint the exact cells that have faulty genes. My information is not exhaustive but I hope it sparks some curiosity in you to read on more about it

      Cameron Jeffery they are an integral part of the ecosystem and could potentially wipe out our foodchain. Besides, the females only bite before reproduction and mosquitoes are only carriers to viruses. As long as we can sterilise them, they would be safe

    • @clintwolf5737
      @clintwolf5737 4 роки тому +1

      Agreed. "They" (scientists) believe they have a way now, but people are against the risk. I am in favor of wiping the mosquitoes out completely. There are those that will say "What if this..." and "What if that...". The concerns are worth considering, but let's not hold up progress just because of "What if" scenarios. "What if" we no longer had mosquitoes and could stay outside without putting poison on us to avoid getting bitten. That is worth the risk. Various species of all types go extinct every year, and life goes on.

    I am not freaked out over "itchy time" , i'm freaked out over messing with the natural balance of things... Like introducing a foreign species to wipe out another, or just wiping one out completely...

    I know I may get crucified for saying this but totally wiping out the mosquito could start a much more deadly domino effect that could eventually really bite the human race, in the you know what, a whole lot worse☮

    • @feynstein1004
      @feynstein1004 7 років тому +17

      Don't be afraid to voice your concerns. It's only natural. Having said that, it's unlikely that wiping out just one species of mosquitoes would cause such devastating effects. There are hundreds of species of mosquitoes, only a handful of which are bad for humans. If we wiped out the harmful ones, the most likely outcome is that the neutral ones will fill their place in the ecosystem. Ecosystems are incredibly complex but unlike machines, this complexity is their strength because it helps them adapt to change.

      Worth a shot. I don't think they are doing this with reckless abandon and bet they are watching the effects very carefully. The same argument could be made for many of the species we are responsible for wiping out over the millennia.

    I've been saying it for months now.
    We need Symmetra turrets that laser beam specific types of mosquitos. If a human is in the way, or is approaching, the laser shuts off and flashes signalling it's in work mode and to plz move away.

    I would be very hesitant about wiping out the mosquito population all at once. Yes, I know, mosquitoes can be _annoying,_ but sweeping actions have this knack for ushering in unintended, disastrous consequences. Is there a way we could try just taking out 20% of the mosquito population and seeing what happens, first?

  • @carlosantuckwell

    Great idea. I smacked my forehead and went "Duh!" when I heard about the fearful ninnies objecting to the GMo male mosquitoes. It's a bit like when a state government tried to put in a high-temperature incinerator in my region, but a whole lot of fearful ignorant ninnies complained -- a lot of people still don't realise: the hotter the fire, the more pollutants are destroyed (torn into simpler molecules and atoms), and often these ignorant ninnies are the same ones who run their log fires really low, causing way more pollution than a hot fire. (By the same token, "hazard reduction" burns are far more polluting than wild fires.)

    Doesn't this affect the food chain? You know animals that rely on mosquitoes for food like frogs and fish who eat the larvae? I heard one plan and that is to release mosquitoes immune to these diseases. I'm not sure how that is going.

    Mosquito larvae are staple foods in some regions for the fishes. Would a decrease in mosquito population indirectly affect the natural ecosystem? Shouldn't the virus be specifically neutering the diseases being spread but not made to actually decrease the mosquitos
