zukodude487987 some of the viruses that they carry might potentially have integrase that could merge the virulent DNA with our own, existing as a provirus
That line where he says it's so tempting to wipe out all the mosquitos resonated with me for a second. Like holy shit what have we come to. To even think about eradication of anything. Crazy
I did get mosquitos released in my neighborhood. Not entirely sure of the brand though. This season always holds a lot of discomfort in the form of bites, but comparing to previous seasons me and my family have experienced less overall. Not exactly a great measure, but an expected result nonetheless.
They are also a principal food source for several species. We've tried medling with the balance of the food chain before and every time we fail miserably.
I hope it backfires. It would served a great lesson for those driving a species to extinction because they simply are the only species capable of keeping humanity in check
At my house we have a special catcher for them that uses propane and kills them by the thousands. Haven't seen mosquitoes all summer and we live next to a swamp.
Yeah the problem is that people believe whatever they are told, so if they are told mosquitoes are bad and they can "fix" them then chances are most people will believe them....Truth is they dont know what is being created or what has been changed only what they have been told. Everything is Here for a reason......Everything.
Because majority of you guys just eat fast food and 60 percent of Americans are obese they should get rid of fast food it's horrible for your body and it is disgusting to me
gooz0mbie it has happened multiple times and I've experienced it myself having met loads of American and it's not like it's their fault the Media is a joke and their educational system is self centered
You need not be nervous. The food chain isn't a machine that breaks down if you take out one of its ball bearings. It's kind of a living thing and adapts to change.
Jesus Chavez lol, mosquitoes don't drink our blood as a food source. The only reason why females bite is due to the fact that they need a protein in blood to form their eggs (doesn't necessarily have to be human blood), males have no need to do so
Lol... Because mosquitoes are likely to crossbreed with other mosquito species.... and produce viable offspring at that... (all of which is unlikely when they can breed within their own species as is biologically best). OX513A is built to breed with Aeges Aegypti females, not Chocolate Midge FLIES and not other mosquitoes. Differences between Midges and Mosquitoes: www.smcmvcd.org/blog-post/midges-and-mosquitoes-key-differences
Kurzgesagt made a video similar to this. They talked about how mosquitoes are being genetically modified that have a bacteria that will eliminate Malaria in regular mosquitoes (if I remember correctly). This was like a year ago or two when they posted this... where were you guys?
Fruitarian Hiv is spread differently from the viruses that mosquitoes carry and cancer is not even a virus (though it can be caused by viruses during DNA integration) Hiv is difficult to eradicate due to the fact that the reverse transcriptase that it contains does not proofread, leading to a high rate of mutation. So drugs targeting specific parts of the Hiv proteins would be obselote in no time. Cancer is caused by a mutation in the tumour repressor gene and the proto oncogene gene in somatic cells and is difficult to eliminate cuz it's difficult to pinpoint the exact cells that have faulty genes. My information is not exhaustive but I hope it sparks some curiosity in you to read on more about it
Cameron Jeffery they are an integral part of the ecosystem and could potentially wipe out our foodchain. Besides, the females only bite before reproduction and mosquitoes are only carriers to viruses. As long as we can sterilise them, they would be safe
Agreed. "They" (scientists) believe they have a way now, but people are against the risk. I am in favor of wiping the mosquitoes out completely. There are those that will say "What if this..." and "What if that...". The concerns are worth considering, but let's not hold up progress just because of "What if" scenarios. "What if" we no longer had mosquitoes and could stay outside without putting poison on us to avoid getting bitten. That is worth the risk. Various species of all types go extinct every year, and life goes on.
They are only talking about wiping out harmful species of mosquitoes which are very few compared to the number of species of mosquitoes. Also the food chain would be fine because they eat more than just mosquitoes. And hey can adapt to east other food sources.
This is so messed up, yeah i know they are annoying but what if i took a baby and designed it to not speak and bite and kill everyone, this world will be so different 10 years from now, i fear it. I bet we'll have 1 health pack life which when we die we can say respawn on our minds and we'll respawn, we'll also have robots who are out partners its scary to think of the enormous future.
Weak analogy at best. Human babies do not transmit diseases when they grow up by biting other human beings. Not to mention, there are not thousands of human species that spread hundreds of diseases. What a faulty emotional appeal made by an American no doubt.
GerackSerack and these people are the ones that will still take medicines and vaccines 😂 why don't they live as nature intended and stop artificially increasing their life expectancy
I think you missed the important one. There's one more variation of lab grown mosquitoes that can only spawn male off springs, which is the most effective and lasting solution to this problem.
Seeker have you heard of Lasers that kill mosquitos? This technology has been around for many years. I just don't know why it never was sold or use after.?
Here's my issue: Countless species depend on mosquitoes for food. They're a massive part of the diet of many birds and I feel like there aren't any studies to show the potential impact of just wiping out the entire mosquito population.
I am not freaked out over "itchy time" , i'm freaked out over messing with the natural balance of things... Like introducing a foreign species to wipe out another, or just wiping one out completely...
I know I may get crucified for saying this but totally wiping out the mosquito could start a much more deadly domino effect that could eventually really bite the human race, in the you know what, a whole lot worse☮
Don't be afraid to voice your concerns. It's only natural. Having said that, it's unlikely that wiping out just one species of mosquitoes would cause such devastating effects. There are hundreds of species of mosquitoes, only a handful of which are bad for humans. If we wiped out the harmful ones, the most likely outcome is that the neutral ones will fill their place in the ecosystem. Ecosystems are incredibly complex but unlike machines, this complexity is their strength because it helps them adapt to change.
Worth a shot. I don't think they are doing this with reckless abandon and bet they are watching the effects very carefully. The same argument could be made for many of the species we are responsible for wiping out over the millennia.
I've been saying it for months now. We need Symmetra turrets that laser beam specific types of mosquitos. If a human is in the way, or is approaching, the laser shuts off and flashes signalling it's in work mode and to plz move away.
I would be very hesitant about wiping out the mosquito population all at once. Yes, I know, mosquitoes can be _annoying,_ but sweeping actions have this knack for ushering in unintended, disastrous consequences. Is there a way we could try just taking out 20% of the mosquito population and seeing what happens, first?
Great idea. I smacked my forehead and went "Duh!" when I heard about the fearful ninnies objecting to the GMo male mosquitoes. It's a bit like when a state government tried to put in a high-temperature incinerator in my region, but a whole lot of fearful ignorant ninnies complained -- a lot of people still don't realise: the hotter the fire, the more pollutants are destroyed (torn into simpler molecules and atoms), and often these ignorant ninnies are the same ones who run their log fires really low, causing way more pollution than a hot fire. (By the same token, "hazard reduction" burns are far more polluting than wild fires.)
Doesn't this affect the food chain? You know animals that rely on mosquitoes for food like frogs and fish who eat the larvae? I heard one plan and that is to release mosquitoes immune to these diseases. I'm not sure how that is going.
No, remember food chain. If we eliminate mosquito, some species will vanish. What i'm concern is what if dengue will make their gene stronger to survive against wolbachia?
Mosquito larvae are staple foods in some regions for the fishes. Would a decrease in mosquito population indirectly affect the natural ecosystem? Shouldn't the virus be specifically neutering the diseases being spread but not made to actually decrease the mosquitos
What about the species that eat mosquitoes like bats, how would it effect them? Could they still eat the other mosquito species, or are there only disease carrying species in those areas?
Is it evolutionary impossible for male mosquitoes to not bite? What if they do after the evolution which may takes place on several tens of years or hundreds?
Brazilian researchers worked in the development of these both approaches. That is the Brazilian science contributing to a better world, despite the fact that the Brazilian Government attempts to destroy all Universities and Research Center here. #ForaTemer
man I am encountering some of this stupid mosquitos who are not even flying away when my hand reaching to them and worst part is they are biting me on my face I mean who do that
I got bit by a mosquito and now my DNA merged with the Mosquito DNA and i mutated into a mansquito.
zukodude487987 some of the viruses that they carry might potentially have integrase that could merge the virulent DNA with our own, existing as a provirus
zukodude487987 Congrats
This is the best comment hands down.
zukodude487987 fucking mansqitou lol
Do you eat Taquitos?
New insult "waste of biomass"
Ian Cleary Biomass is a waste of matter anyway.
Ha! Love it..
That line where he says it's so tempting to wipe out all the mosquitos resonated with me for a second. Like holy shit what have we come to. To even think about eradication of anything. Crazy
Mosquitos seriously need to learn to dab, everyone is hating on them.
Who else felt bugs on yourself when you were watching this
Serious question
How tf do they get the number of mosquitoes in an area? Do they mark the ones counted? Do an air count? Or conduct a mosquito census?
Red-Haired Shanks, estimates, guesses
They count each one individually
Probably a census sample... but that's an interesting question! Tweet me if you find out.
BensLand I knew it. Thanks man. Saved me a Google
They go door to door and take surveys.
All the mosquitoes get released and immediately fly into a tornado.
Mad Wey mosquinado
BRO 💀
I did get mosquitos released in my neighborhood. Not entirely sure of the brand though. I hate mosquito
Even after all those kisses at night all the poor mosquito got was hatred. :'(
Cruel world.
How would this affect other populations that eat mosquitos such as bats?
poor spiders now have nothing to eat ...
well, the dont only eat mosquitoes
Nanuck Dogg more like poor frogs.
and other critters, etc.
There are tons of other insects spiders can eat. Smh
This has potential "sci-fi disaster" vibes. I hope nothing goes wrong for anyone because of this.
At least we'll have a new movie.
it will
I hope it backfires. It would served a great lesson for those driving a species to extinction because they simply are the only species capable of keeping humanity in check
If they want to get rid of maquitoes why are why not protecting bat's, Dragon flys and other eaters of the pests.
You have to love how casually people speak about driving mosquitoes to extinction
When you assume there's only two mosquito genders.
😂😂
Saitama: Mosquitos Suck.
Badum tshh
Animu Reference
When be said "nobody's been ducked dry by mosquitoes" I thought of this show
Mosquitos: the only creature Saitama can't beat (unless it's humanoid)
Doel Nath he can go to sky ane one punch blow up the whole area and kill everything there inclunding the damned bug
If male mosquitoes don't bite, what do they drink?
RiddleTomMarvollo both males and females feed on nectar and honey dew but females feed on blood to produce eggs
RiddleTomMarvollo nectar
RiddleTomMarvollo Sugary substances like Sugar water or nectar {Really nectar but if no nectar then Sugar water}
RiddleTomMarvollo nectar
RiddleTomMarvollo the blood of their enemies
At my house we have a special catcher for them that uses propane and kills them by the thousands. Haven't seen mosquitoes all summer and we live next to a swamp.
What if mosquitos are actually helping us by acting as vaccines for diseases we don't know about.
Yeah the problem is that people believe whatever they are told, so if they are told mosquitoes are bad and they can "fix" them then chances are most people will believe them....Truth is they dont know what is being created or what has been changed only what they have been told. nope.
Mist3rpink83 shut your conspiracy theorist ass up
Monica Therese alright. Time to make a movie about it.
Papi Champú it's the new cool man, if you're not a conspiracy theorist then you're not cool or as they call it, "woke". Can't wait for it to die out
I've watched enough Black Mirror to know where this is going.
Ty Sam The bee episode is exactly what i thought of when i saw this!
Ty Sam how do they kill you?
ive only seen on animes ;o mm courage the cowardly dog cartoon and some other places i think animes
Truth...
doesn't the population drop of the mosquitoes trickle down to the whole ecosystem?
Lol the Florida bit was hilarious !! Then Americans wonder why everyone is mocking them
ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣ ΛΙΑΡΟΣ so a tiny group of people says something and you ostracize the entire country of 300million people? Sounds like you have a low iq.
Because majority of you guys just eat fast food and 60 percent of Americans are obese they should get rid of fast food it's horrible for your body and it is disgusting to me
gooz0mbie na it's a huge amount but small people with sense
gooz0mbie it has happened multiple times and I've experienced it myself having met loads of American and it's not like it's their fault the Media is a joke and their educational system is self centered
ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣ ΛΙΑΡΟΣ but are all Americans that way sir?
i just killed a mosquito before getting notif of this vid
but he killed it
this has got me nervous any time we mess around with the food chain it puts me on edge
You need not be nervous. The food chain isn't a machine that breaks down if you take out one of its ball bearings. It's kind of a living thing and adapts to change.
This is literally how a horror movie starts.
This sounds like a biological weapon
Only females bite? *Seems legit.*
Jesus Chavez, they do though
Jesus Chavez lol, mosquitoes don't drink our blood as a food source. The only reason why females bite is due to the fact that they need a protein in blood to form their eggs (doesn't necessarily have to be human blood), males have no need to do so

Mark Angelot yeah......i hate this world
Mark Angelot except he's using sex ie male and female
Mark Angelot 😂😂😂 wtf
Mark Angelot lmao u made my day
ikr mosqists 😒
"Firing Blanks" Lmaoo
we have a video about it.
@@mikeycrackson Its probably because of all the soy boys running around
Straight up sounds like the start of the zombie apocalypse
Thank you. I was kind of worried about the mosquitoes being released. You fixed my worries. I think we should release mosquitoes every year.
University of Florida tried something like this decades ago with Love Bugs. Ask a Floridian how well that worked out!
Cant they do this to hiv and cancer?
Fruitarian Maybe but it is a diease not a species... they are looking very hard for the cure
Fruitarian Hiv is spread differently from the viruses that mosquitoes carry and cancer is not even a virus (though it can be caused by viruses during DNA integration) Hiv is difficult to eradicate due to the fact that the reverse transcriptase that it contains does not proofread, leading to a high rate of mutation. not to hiv or what i know now
Fruitarian the cure for cancer was found long ago, they just didn't want anybody to know about it...
If only we could make them extinct.
Jackson Murphy noooo that would be bad
gooz0mbie, why though
Cameron Jeffery they are an integral part of the ecosystem and could potentially wipe out our foodchain. Besides, the females only bite before reproduction and mosquitoes are only carriers to viruses. As long as we can sterilise them, they would be safe

*_l i t e r a l l y_*
Mosquitoes *_[ S U C C ]_*
musquitoes are really helpful
without them the larger animals of the food chain can not have their food
This sound like the beginning of a worldwide plauge. A science project gone wrong.
I dont give a damn what it does to the environment. Wipe them all out quickly plz. Ticks too
NOS Huffer it could potentially wipe out our very own fragile foodchain which could lead to our extinction
They are only talking about wiping out harmful species of mosquitoes which are very few compared to the number of species of mosquitoes. Also the food chain would be fine because they eat more than just mosquitoes. And hey can adapt to east other food sources.
A. W. Chances are we're going to kill even the unharmful ones whether by mistake or on purpose
Yaaay! Mosquito porn @1:44
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
sourav lamarck get busssy
sourav lamarck get a life

oh ya that's hot **unzips**

hey gimme out gimmie out
Things are getting worse

Welcome back, Trace
It's been a while you're not in the video..
Why not just build a wall?
Man playing God
charlie chamberlain Yup it's unfortunate
charlie chamberlain not god, Mother Nature.
Judging by the fact that we've doubled our life expectancy, I'd say we are playing pretty well.
fallout 4 qoutes

This is the end of the comments.
TheMightyWalrus why
TheMightyWalrus it started lol
I wish, but I'll probably keep scrolling anyway
What's in it for these private companies to do this ?
I think you missed the important one. There's one more variation of lab grown mosquitoes that can only spawn male off springs, which is the most effective and lasting solution to this problem.
What about the food chain?
May the Force be with You theirs plenty of other Bugs to eat if that’s what you’re talking about
May the Force be with You there are over 3500 species of mosquitoes, and barely any are the harmful ones. We will only eliminate those ones.
It won't affect Walmart. We will be okay
what a bunch of crap i see here...
I LOVE SEEKER
basically its like STD for mosquitoes 😂

Feynstein 100 agree
If i lose both legs for life of all mosquitoes = worth.
Worth a shot. I don't think they are doing this with reckless abandon and bet they are watching the effects very carefully. The same argument could be made for many of the species we are responsible for wiping out over the millennia.
I've been saying it for months now.

I particularly liked the part around 3:17 about the publics mistrust for the words "genetically" and "modified." Thanks for pointing that out
Great. Mosquitoes trained in the scientific method. We're doomed.
Isn't mosquito larva important for aquatic ecosystems?
The video is better if muted with subtitles, once wolbachia is mentioned just read it as code talker from MGSVPH
I heard a S.Korean lab breed a Non-biting mosquito that in larvae state even eat other mosquito larvaes.
4:31 As long as nobody gets sick, and the food chain isn't affected hugely, I'm fine with it.
I would be very hesitant about wiping out the mosquito population all at once. Yes, I know, mosquitoes can be _annoying,_ but sweeping actions have this knack for ushering in unintended, disastrous consequences. I watched a documentary the other day about hummingbirds, and they said mosquitoes are a big part of their protein diet :'(
Why are private companies doing this, do they make money?
What about the gmo mosquito that only produces male offspring?
Damn. Looks like Skull Face will succeed in 2017 to release the Wolbachia vocal cord parasite.
*reading title while scratching over mosquito bites* "...Go on."
What could go wrong?
They really do suck! Me and my brother lived in Bali and we got dengue at the same freaking time. It's an absolute pain in the ass!! Great video👌🏻
Doesn't this affect the food chain? You know animals that rely on mosquitoes for food like frogs and fish who eat the larvae? I heard one plan and that is to release mosquitoes immune to these diseases. I'm not sure how that is going.
This is how the zombie apocalypse begins...
No, remember food chain. If we eliminate mosquito, some species will vanish. What i'm concern is what if dengue will make their gene stronger to survive against wolbachia?
wait, wolbachia?
so the SKULLS parasite unit is going to be a thing?
Mosquito larvae are staple foods in some regions for the fishes. Would a decrease in mosquito population indirectly affect the natural ecosystem? Shouldn't the virus be specifically neutering the diseases being spread but not made to actually decrease the mosquitos
Am I the only one that went 'nnoooooo!' when they read the title?

Is it evolutionary impossible for male mosquitoes to not bite? What if they do after the evolution which may takes place on several tens of years or hundreds?

I would be horrified if i saw a million mosquitos coming at me, even if they're the kind that supposedly don't bite. Scary!
What about all the species world wide that depend on mosquitoes as a food source?
I live in Kenya and this stupid insects are such a huge part of my life we've come to an understanding.
I feel itchy already, just by watching the images!!
I guessed the right size of the shoebox in space video. This channel has all the most interesting information
Can't think this is tested controllable or reversible
Hey Trace haven't seen you on this part of seeker
man I am encountering some of this stupid mosquitos who are not even flying away when my hand reaching to them and worst part is they are biting me on my face I mean who do that
Do you have a Kickstarter campaign for your movie?
I can think of a lot of ways this experiment could go wrong
I WANT THAT SHIRT!! WHERE DO I GET IT?!?
Both dengue and zika is spreading here in the Philippines but its ok not alot of people are dying here its like couple ten thousands died to it
Actually bloodworms (mosquito larvae) are a major source of food for small fish and other small animals that live in water.
1:23 wolbachia. I thought code talker was gonna pop up and explain mosquito vocal cord parasites.
Every time you try to kill something off it just ends up making more of them, I know it sounds crazy but it's true
Wait... But what about all the species that eat mosquitoes?
