Catching the replay, finally. We have a great book called “Back To The Basics”. In the book there is very comprehensive explanations on how to preserve all sorts of food. I think you maybe have that book as well? Unless I am in a major SHTF situation I am not going to experiment with hardly used old fashioned ways of preserving food. Glen and I just talked about this the other day. Cold pickles are the best except for freeze dried pineapple….😂 Holy Moly. That’s a crazy price for tomatoes. 😳 I kept my garden boxes the same price this year even though the cost of fuel has jumped since last year. I deliver the boxes. I never thought about the tomato seeds keeping the moisture when freeze drying. Makes sense. They are kinda coated with something slippery. When I was selling FD food the sliced mushrooms were my favourite veggie. I would just eat them out of the can. Haha. The Gen X thing! 53:03 That’s me! 😎 Great live Lisa.
Hi Annette, I am not sure I have that book and would love info on it. I googled it and many come up. I agree with you. I’m ok doing some things but not crazy rebel canning. However, I wanted to be sure to include others from areas that it is not commonplace to have tested usda recipes. So no recommendations on my part just a convo. Ryan and I talk about this stuff a lot. Freeze dried pineapple is to die for! lol. We ordered a bushel for Wednesday (approximately 53 lbs for $75) so going with that price instead. Yes any seed is similar and adds to dry times and per “the experts” (in the FD groups) seeds lead to bad products. FD mushrooms are amazing! Yeah we don’t eat them out of the can. But dang! Onions and mushrooms go bad fast so nice to have on hand! Thanks Nette! Have a great day!
