Yogi Hollow Farm
United States
Приєднався 5 гру 2019
We always desired to have a homestead but never followed through due to life, land restrictions, life challenges, etc. We moved to South Dakota in January 2020 and shortly after, the world changed as we knew it. This prompted us to take action and luckily, we had property that would accommodate our plan.
Inspired by homesteading channels on UA-cam, we started a journey to self sufficiency. We began with baby chicks to raise for eggs and now have a 2 acre farm!
So where did the name come from because we are not a large scale farm? In 2009, we adopted a 5 year old Olde English Bulldogge that forever changed our lives. His name was Yogi. He lived to the ripe old age of almost 15, leaving an indelible mark on our souls. Hence the name Yogi Hollow Farm. Three words that fit together so well to honor his legacy!

Why This Year's GARDEN HARVESTS Will Be Remembered Forever #gardening #growyourownfood #homesteading
Come see how we did this growing season on our two acre farm, located in the southern Black Hills of South Dakota. At a high altitude with a short growing season, the past 5 years have been a HUGE learning curve for us. Last year I started weighing all of our harvests to have a tangible hold on our yields. This year has been EPIC!
Garden, gardening harvests, gardening, greenhouse growing, microclimate, zone 4b, zone 5, you can grow your own food, grow your own food, home grown, two acre farm, homesteading.

Small land usually means more work. We have two acres and are maintaining our pastures during a drought. This means raking up manure and other debris to make these pastures work for us. Come check it out. Reminder: We try to grow all our food any way we can through raising meat and growing in our gardens. Stay tuned for our 2024 garden yield video! Catching the replay, Lisa!
Thanks Pete! Happy weekend!
🤗❤️💪👨🌾👩🌾🏡🍅🧄🧅🥬🫘🎉
Amazing harvest Lisa, all your hard work has paid off. Amazing job. 👍🏻❤️
Thank you Arielle. Been a challenging journey but definitely paid off finally
I know for me the foxes were screaming just like that for like five minutes (I couldn’t sleep)
Watching replay
Thanks Heather! Have a great weekend!
Prayers
Thank you!
It’s wild.
It is and so horrific
Lot and lots of prayers sent out to those affected in North Carolina.
Thank you sweet friend!
What great numbers!!Dang you really did awesome this year!! I agree potatoes are cheaper to buy. Really happy for you guys!! What a great season!✌️🙏🥰
Thanks Tom! Epic year and very rewarding for sure. Makes the learning years worth it. Never have we been overwhelmed with harvests like this year. Thank you again, and yes potatoes are cheap enough so gonna rest with those for a bit
nice video 😊 thanks for sharing 😊 Stay Connected
Thank you!
Lisa! That is all so amazing. Your determination and pushing through has paid off. I can't wait to see what happens next year.
Thank you Tina. It’s been a lot Of pushing through and determination for sure. It really paid off! I’m so thrilled. The best part? My husband is reinvigorated to garden again! Grow that food girl
Hi Lisa. Happy Friday to you 🙂on the east coast of Canada. Excellent discussion and every growing zone is different, which takes relearning tons of things. Amazing harvest to be blessed with. Full watch here my friend.
Hello and thank you! I agree every growing zone is different. Boy did we learn a lot the past 5 years. It feels good to have this huge blessing for sure!
Wowww that is absolutely amazing!!!!!
Thank you friend! So much relearning but it paid off this year!
Wow you guys grew awesomely this year! I am so impressed! 👏👏 Not only did you harvest a lot of great crops, they also look beautiful, yes even those stubby carrots. 😉 I kind of have the same problem with carrots - though I get beautiful tops - so I'll keep my eyes open should you find a solution. Gosh I can relate to your trouble with the rodents taking bites like they're Goldilocks and you're the three bears. Squirrels, chipmunks, groundhogs, and probably mice do the same in my garden. It drives me insane! I applaud you when it comes to bug pests for just pulling plants that are attracting them. I so need to get better at taking out my darlings so to speak. But how awesome that you have more pollinators!!! I'd say they too are proof that you're doing great things, despite challenging conditions most especially your climate. A last frost the third week of June then the first to start September?! Your optimism in the face of all of these troubles is admirable. Your results are super inspiring. Plus, this was a well put together video. You packed a lot of information in a short time. I am so glad you shared this. I really can't wrap my mind around your not having water for 3 months. Prayers that the rest of Fall will play out very well for you and your farm.🙋♀💜
Thank you! It’s been a journey of relearning that finally paid off. Carrots…no clue. Wish I did. The critters were in full force this year…drove us insane also! I started pulling plants with pests because when I did not, the pests spread to other plants. So I decided it was time. So that’s how I looked at it if that helps. Thanks for the compliment on the video. I know statistical videos can be long and boring. So tried to make it more enjoyable. Happy gardening friend! You got this!
Happy pig
She sure is!
You had a lovely harvest Lisa, thanks for sharing and have a lovely weekend♦
Thank you Anne. It’s been a journey growing here but one that finally paid off. So thrilled! Have a great weekend friend!
This is a great comprehensive walk through of how every part of your garden did. Hail, the netting! 👑 I applaud you for keeping track. That is a job all of its own. So cool that you just finished up with harvesting. Truly, some of your harvest numbers are so high. Nice that you could share. Last year everyone that came to the farm had to pay a reverse tax by taking home tomatoes, this year it’s squash…lol Awesome job Lisa and Ryan. 🙌
Thanks Annette! It really thrived despite some areas that didn’t do as well. The netting saved us for sure and worth the cost. Glad we have extra. You’re so right…tracking was a full time job geesh! Love the reverse tax lol. I had a fiber group friend come for eggs and I handed her a huge bag and said she had to take it because we were overrun lol. She laughed. It felt so good to share! Overall it felt so good to have the abundance and know we have a lot of food for the off season! Score!
That walk is cute.
Thanks she is a sweet girl
Thanks for sharing Lisa, great harvest and excellent job keeping track of it 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much! Tracking is a huge job! I ended up starting a spreadsheet. Even so, I got a bit lazy at the end…think I may have missed a few weights but not bad
I am so glad you did this video!! What an impressive harvest and I love the talk about what and why you will or won’t grow certain plants again. Also appreciate the discussion on cost and investments!! Great video!!! 😊🙌❤️
Thanks Tammy! This year has reinvigorated us both after years of struggling. But we are not giving up. We look at certain plants as a waste of real estate. It limits what we grow but makes us better at use of space. The cost was a lot as you saw and that didn’t include half of all the seed starting etc. thank you again!
Whoa!!!! 😳🤯😃👏👏👏🙌❤️
Thank you! It has been an epic year!
Great season for you all! Good job!
Thank you very much! It was an amazing year
You Worked Hard and it paid off BIG TIME! You learned so much as well! Mrs. Betty and Mr. Garry here and WE ARE PROUD of you Lisa and Ryan!
Thank you Garry and Betty! Appreciate your cheerleading! We are so excited to have all this home grown food preserved to enjoy all year long
Big HELLO Lisa….here to find out your totals and your thoughts. We are 5A and 5B as well.
Hello and thank you! It’s so weird they changed the zones this year especially when our temps fall more where they should with 4b. Did your zone change this year?
Great video my friend ..full support
Thank you!
Alot of hard work. Certainly paid off. You have a short growing season, so that is a challenge right there. Who knew that you would rhubarb anything?
For sure! Thankful for Ryan’s help this year also. Once we get water it will be nice to get the preserving done finally. Very short season for sure. Haha that rhubarb bbq sauce changed my mind!
Your cauliflower is gorgeous! Wow! I’m so happy for you, great job guys. I can hear the joy in your voice. Ps. Your brussel sprouts 🎉
Thanks Rhonda! It’s been a journey but to have it pay off like this year…is HUGE! I am so full of joy! I’m so excited about the Brussel Sprouts!
Wow!!!!!! These totals are amazing Lisa!!! How awesome!!! What an exciting yield all around! Don't stop doing potatoes, they are the best for winter storage!
Thanks so much Sarah! It was an epic year. I agree potatoes are great. Time for a break from them. We have limited space and need to give it a rest with them for a bit. We struggle to store them so end up preserving them. We will go back to them but for now taking a break. It’s amazing all the past years finally paid off!
You have persevered and succeeded in your gardening efforts. I am so very proud of you for keeping on keeping on. Woohoo!!!!!! Grow Lisa!!!
Thanks Gwen! We have come far from that 1 jar of salsa! Lol. I told ya I wasn’t giving up and it finally paid off! Woohooo!
It appears that there are a lot of ups and downs with growing vegetables with hail storms and frost coming in!! The garlic in my area is becoming less and less nice looking in the markets. Stay strong my friends! Liked and shared
There sure are! Living in CT and NC were much easier places to grow vs here. Shame about the garlic less nice looking by you. Maybe try growing some of your own in a grow bag? It’s so easy to grow and low maintenance. Thanks again friend!
Great harvest, Lisa. Thanks for the share 🙏. Have a great weekend. Again 5 years program
Thank you Uncle Al. Have a great weekend!
Here watching my friend. Have a nice weekend, Lisa.
Thanks friend! Enjoy your weekend!
You are so trained to turn the faucet on. I did at your house even though I knew there was no water.
Haha glad I am not alone! Lol. Now I will have to reprogram myself to turn the faucet on vs getting a bottle of water it’s been so long!
Re watch
Enjoy! So delicious
A great tour. You had a great summer in the garden despite the lack of rain! We finally had a frost so we're almost done. It's been in the 80's the past few days too. Cheers Lisa!
Thanks Rich! Glad your season lasted longer with some warm days!
So nice to have the hens help clean out the garden! A nice relaxing day!!
They loved it!
Praying for full green pastures in the spring.
Thank you! That would be amazing!
Wow fantastic place and good view keep going my friend
Thanks!
Passive solar green house. Yw
Thanks. We have 3 greenhouses. They unfortunately need heat to be run year round
What a bummer. Have you tried wood chips for insulation? @YogiHollowFarm
