    There is this product “First Saturday Lime” which chicken owners use successfully- they replace diatomaceous earth with it and say it’s far better because even if it gets wet it’s still effective. It’s not in Australia. I did contact the manufacturers and asked what the active ingredient was but the only answer I received was that they don’t ship to Australia. Wasn’t my question but someone watching might know and tell us. 🐓🐓🌸

      Thanks for letting me know that is interesting as yes I've heard it's not effective once wet! But then I question if you consume it it's supposed to still get rid of parasites and things and our guts are defineltly full of liquid lol was thinking about this today 😅

      @@Lmr6789s yes I agree it’s weird lol

    I hadn't heard any of those things. They all made sense to me. The thought of trying to bathe a chickens foot for 15 minutes is pretty intimidating to me but other than that, very straight forward. I'm planning on getting chickens and I've no experience with raising them. Coops built and I'll plan to implement at least some of these tips from the start.

      You'd only do it if your chicken happened to get bumble foot at least. Not something you'd have to do otherwise thankfully lol Don't worry chickens aren't too hard 🙂 definetly recommend doing apple cider vinegar in their water and the diatomaceous earth though!

    I would think Epsom salt will be helpful with bumble foot, which is actually a bacterial infection.

    • @Lmr6789s
      @Lmr6789s  Рік тому

      Yes it would be. I mix Iodine and would use either sea salt or epsom in some water and soak the foot to help! 🙂

      The first rescue chicken that was limping from bumble foot went to the vet for six visits, and she recommended three times a day, soaking in Benzine water… preferred over Epsom salts
      $562 later cured!
      Another hen …vetracyn has been key in keeping the huge scab reducing after 6 weeks of foot soaks.

      The hen enjoyed watching cell phone videos while soaking in a large mug on toilet seat /lap
      as the bathroom was cozy sick room.

    Question: I found one of my Reds on in her nesting box expired. It was so strange. She has always acted healthin as with my other chickens. She was only aout 9 months old and just started laying good. Any ideas of what may happened ? Lucy was a very friendly hen and always ran to be picked up. I am heartbroken.

      Oh thats so sad!! Did she get bitten by a snake by any chance? I've never had a chicken just die I have had chickens in the past show obvious signs of sickness and then die. So sorry for your loss! Not sure what else it could have been since you have other healthy chickens in your coop so couldn't be too cold depending where you are in the world?

    I was wondering is it bad for humans to breathe in the silica?

    • @Lmr6789s
      @Lmr6789s  Рік тому +4

      Hi it's definetly not recommended to breathe in diatomaceous earth. It can cause lung problems if you already have respiratory problems I normally just hold my breathe or you can wear a mask while you are handling diatomaceous earth and take if off afterward 🙂

    • @Lmr6789s

      I don't currently make my own chicken feed as the ingredients worked out more expensive than purchasing it at the feed store I found! But I would love to make my own feed one day if I can source the seeds for cheaper!
