Bill Mummy was involved with a band and wrote for Marvel and was in at least one other television show after Lost in Space. It is said his comic book collection dates back to at least the 1950s and is out of this world!
Yes. All the cast were an excellent set-up of good actors. However, Jonathan Harris was a truly outstanding Shakesperean actor -- he was a professional theatrical actor in nyc. Irwin Allen was also a formidable arts manager, set director and executive. Brasil Brasil
Bless Jonathan Harris...he never lost his touch. It was just like the old times; as if he'd never been away. Such happy memories of my childhood in the 60's, watching Lost In Space. Thank you.
The evergreen Dr Smith, the voice ,the mannerisms, and his quips about the robot just roll of his tongue. Nobody could ever replace him, i just hope there are lots of people out there who enjoyed this series as much as i did.
Harris felt the original Dr Smith was too dark and scarey for children so he reinvented the Smith character to what we know and love. Jonathan Harris IS Dr Smith.
I love how Johnathan and Billy are playing their parts its like they never stopped just like still being on the show! :-) Amazing people show and actors We need stuff like this nowadays probly a once in a lifetime experiance but I'm glad I was around to be a part of it
Its funny to think how successful the show was and how much we all enjoyed it. Honestly, it was one of a number of TV shows that went against the odds yet managed to do so well in the viewer rating.
I met Harris when my uncle's architectural firm was contracted by him to build an addition on his CA home. The job took two months, and I worked on the project over a summer. Harris was only there for about two weeks during the construction, but I had the opportunity to talk briefly with him on several occasions. Very cordial, down-to-earth guy, and when the job was completed, he took the entire crew out for dinner. Greatt experience. I didn't know until then what a long career he's had.
@@mordecaiesther3591 Close. The series ended in 1968 and this was a documentary about the show from 1998. This scene was how they finished the documentary. The timing was probably intended to coincide with the 1998 movie remake (the movie made a profit but was a critical flop).

Totally excellent! I watched "LOST IN SPACE" during my 3rd and 4th grade years. Today Im 60 years old. Such wonderful memories. Thank-you for the hilarious clip. Dr. Smith is such a well played character. I remember wanting to be Will Robinson's best friend. Thanks for the look back. The "little" things in life mean so much. ----Cody.
And did you know that June Lockhart, Mark Goddard, Marta Kristen and Angela Cartwright were in the 1998 Lost in Space movie?? Billy Mummy and Jonathan Harris were also suppose to be in it but Jonathan Harris said he doesn't do cameo appearances and Billy Mummy, who was supposed to play the adult Will Robinson in the movie, didn't get the part at the last minute, which, in my opinion, was a BIG mistake. The voice of the robot was none other than Dick Tufeld, who did the ORIGINAL voice of the robot on the original lost in space.
Star Trek was for the serious viewer. And in turn took itself to seriously. Kirk was a terrible actor. Lost in Space predated Star Trek by a year. It's first season was seriously written with a compassion to it. Seasons 2 and 3 were basically a Dr Smith tour de force. Camp and didn't take itself at all too seriously. I agree with you . I totally loved LIS over ST as a kid.
It was the camaraderie of the excellent ensemble cast, the musical excellence of a young "Johnny Williams" and others, and the superb acting of Jonathan Harris which made this show a timeless hit. This wonderful clip had me smiling and in tears at the same time. It was as if it was 1967 all over again for me and time had taken me back to my old home...my mother singing in the kitchen, my father and I lazing in front of the old tube tv enjoying LIS. Vale Jonathan Harris et al.
So very funny and so true to the original series. 81 year old Jonathan Harris turns in a great performance, but notice how he was holding his right hand most of the time. He would leave this world in 2002 at age 87. Bob May (the guy inside robot B9) passed in 2009 and Dick Tufeld was silenced in 2012. :(
This is the last time where the robot, will, and DR smith interact in a skit. too bad Irwin Allen did not continue the series in the early 80's when everyone was alive and these shows were becoming very popular on rerun.
Refresh my memory. I seem to recall Batman was on opposite the first half hour of Lost in Space. With one TV in our house, I can remember those "what show will we watch" fights. Do you remember what was on the other network at the time ?
@@tonyhoward7004 Heh, I don't recall having fights over the single TV but then again my dried up brain cells have a tough time remembering those long gone years. There were times I would try to flip back and forth to also watch Batman and not sure what else was on in the same time slots but there were a lot of fun shows back then, Gilligan's Island, Beverly Hillbillies and more. I sure do miss those shows but then again that is why I have a lot of them on DVD now ;-)
This was Jonathan Harris' last portrayal of Dr. Zachary Smith. Sadly, he passed away just before they were to start a TV reunion movie for Lost In Space. Producer Kevin Burns did an excellant job capturing the essance of the original show here! Bill Mumy, Bob May, and Dick Tufeld's voice were great too. And of course Jonathan was the same as we've always known and loved. Thanks for the post!
More please. And I still say it all the time: the pain. Oh the pain! We still watch these with our kids. They walk around saying: danger Will Robinson danger all the time too. Ageless timeless classic. ♥️😍
It was genius to cast Jonathan Harris in LiS at the last minute. It would never have been the same without him and his relationship with Billy Mumy and the Robot.
Tell that to June Lockhart ! She resented the direction of the show , and the focus on those three characters , once commenting "I think they did all they could with the boy, the doctor and the robot"
I love this, it's like time never stopped, this is one of my favorite retro old-skool shows from back in the day! Thank you so much for this post, it means a lot to me!
first time ever seeing this video clip, how classic, how great, how wonderful! just something soothing about hearing the voices of Will, Dr. Smith and the Robot. maybe because of my own advancing age this clip really got me, almost brings a tear to my eyes
I Am near 58 and seeing this brought back awesome memories to watching this as a child. The Good Ole Doctor here hasn't lost his ole acting self. He was the best character star of the show next to Will.
"To Be Continued..." Oh, how I wish it had been, just for another short series - it's wonderful to see the way Jonathan Harris slipped back into playing Zachary Smith as if he'd never been away from the role.
LOL. I just found this after it was posted nine years ago. RIP Jonathan Harris. It was a real coup that they cast him in this series. The role was so beneath him yet he really made it his own and his character was such a central part of the show. As others pointed out, he was in top form here even though he was 84 years old (and, sadly, died four years later.) I'm pretty sure that's Dick Tufeld doing the robot's voice and not Bob May.
Harris and his relationship with Will and the robot made this show.Having said that, all the cast were amazing,a show i never missed as a kid and still love it to this day.
They still had it. How good was Jonathan, in his 80's. Brilliant. If you haven't seen Billy in Babylon 5, I highly recommended watching from Season 2 to 5. Fantastic show as well.

I know this is 2022 and this is at least 10 years ago but I still enjoyed watching so much. Jonathan Harris has since passed. He was incredible even in his older years. Love the whole cast.
That was pretty cool. Probably my favorite show as a kid, along with Speed Racer. I wish the star field in the backdrop would have rocked when the ship was rolling. Otherwise a great set mockup and three of the original actors (don't forget Bob May inside the robot!).
They should have had Robin Williams as Dr. Smith in the movie, the resemblance and William's mimicry and over-the-top haminess would have been nice to see...but of course, the producers were going in a different direction
This amazing. Jonathan Harris can still fall into his role brilliantly. Many stars are not able to do that after a few years. I met Jonathan Harris and the rest of the cast except for Guy Williams, of course. I shook Jonathan and Bill Mumy's hand, Jonathan was very nice, and so was Bill. Mikie D
It's very easy to get caught up in this scene. They all played these characters perfectly. I wish the original cast could have completed work on the two hour TV movie. I would have loved seeing the Jupiter 2 return to earth. 🤗

not acting now DOA
Rr smith is eternal

Wokism has killed off the best of TV shows, can't wait to kill off the woke, only then will these type of shows return.

Luckily for you and your project, he left "chewing the scenery" to the stage. 😁
Even at that age, Jonathan Harris is Phenomenal!

Twenty years ago, Incredible. This was a beautiful little skit. :-)
R.I.P. Dr Smith, We'll never forget you.
Jonathan Harris was amazing. There is no one like him around now, and what a pro. Got his autograph years ago, he brightened my childhood.
Only one close was Robin Williams
This was the best show on TV back in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and beyond. I grew up with these characters and I am so glad I did.
It was the best show of ALL TIME, don't you mean?
Amazing how Harris nailed it after all these years. It's all there in the voice. Billy has grown up so he had to reinvent his character.
Tmanaz480---They kept their acting abilities but the Robot's voice seemed to be a bit more transistorized.

At the end of the scene, "Will Robinson" rolls his eyes in response to "Dr. Smith's" dramatic outburst. Funny stuff!

The one and only Doctor Smith! He played his roll perfectly! Will and the robot were great too! ♥️♥️♥️
I wish Guy Williams had more air time
