    Started surfing about 2 months ago on 8' soft tops, never been able to turn, always heading straight down to the beach and occasionally if i angle the take off right, i i could go straight down the line. After i came across this video, i went out the next morning and I tried this technique on the very 1st wave that i caught and i was able to make left and right turns easily like i have been doing it for a while. It's crazy how all the coaches I had, didn't mention this. They all had the same "look to where you want to turn" advice which is quite vague i think. So, thank you so much for this and I still can't believe your method worked on the first try.

    I love it, I like your storytelling but especially your breakdown of the basic stance. I am 62 Hawaiian, born there with a Hawaiian mother that took us to the beach since I was born. My first board was at the age of 10. What you presented in this video took me 20 years to learn. Square of your shoulders, short stance. Wish there was youtube back then. Can't wait for the section on getting comfortable with the face of the wave and dragging yourself into the barrow.

    ShoreSurf Redemption is Truly brilliant!!!
    My longboard fin has become a shortboard fin after years of getting nowhere by wearing it down on rocks however I now plan to use it to help control my board to turn.
    Plus I just got a new fin to polish up. haha
    The rehabilitation path to turning prison is clear now and I hope to escape (one day) by etching into my muscles memory
    the movements shown & lessons learnt.
    Thanks Brian for all of your videos, always great to watch , lighthearted in providing such informative & helpful information for everyone’s surfing progression.

      Awesome Adam! 1.5 years is not a long time, so if you're starting to get it than you're on the right track. Surfing is the one of the hardest things to improve at. Takes so many wipeouts and horrible days to finally start getting the hang of it. It only gets better!

      I am 44 (also from NZ) and just started a couple of years ago, I ride a 7ft Soft beastie which is pretty good for most days on the east coast as long as I stay out of the 5ft plus range, prefer to ride around 2-3 ft, I am considering going up to an 8 ft ish (and picking up a 6 2' or something for the non longboarding days) but am wondering if I should go a bit bigger, I like to work the wave a bit rather than just cruise the face

    Jeez the production value of your videos is off the charts! Do you do this all yourself? How much time do you spend on a single video?

    • @LongboardSessions
      @LongboardSessions  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much!! Yes I do it all myself... which is tough at times, but I do love the whole process. I'd say my videos on average take about 8-10 hours of editing/writing plus however long it takes to film. However, this one took me 40+ hours I'd say, but I also had Gilad's help. Lot's of planning went into this one haha!

    Lots of good information here. I've found heavier boards easier to turn. You can put more of what Skip Frye calls "boy english" into your turn without turning out of the wave.

      @LongboardSessions  2 роки тому

      Oh very interesting! I get what your saying as well. I just surfed a smaller board and nearly lost some waves due to 'over turning' lol

      @BalsaBill 2 роки тому

      @@LongboardSessions I have a few subtle features I shape into my boards to make them responsive. My balsa boards run between 25-30 lbs for a 10' board.
      Outline, rails, bottom and fin. They all work togetner. Weight is important to get though or around fast closing sections.

      And of course rocker. I was just checking out my rocker profiles and found one from a board i had over twenty years ago. It had a little more tail rocker. Proper tail rocker is important for turning. But if it doesn't work with the rails it will stall as soon as you come out of the turn.
