Hi! Thanks for this helpful video. I especially appreciate the specific gritty product recommendations. I’m only 2 months into my curly hair journey and really struggle with getting my curls to hold. My hair is fine, low porosity, but I have a lot of it, and it is pretty healthy as I haven’t colored my hair in over 20 years. I only heat styled my hair about once or twice a week, prior to going the curly route. I can get a good cast, but by the end of the day I’ve lost a lot of the hold (this includes when I’ve used hard hold products). I’m already clarifying pretty regularly, so I’m thinking I need to add a good amount of protein into my routine to see if that helps me out. Kind of like you mentioned, I was under the impression that I didn’t need much protein since my hair was healthy, but what you said about adding it in makes sense to me. Question for you - do you think Curlsmiths’s Bond Curl Rehab Salve would be a good one to use for adding protein, and if so how often would you recommend? Thanks again, and your hair is hair goals for me, as I think my curl pattern is similar to yours. 😃
Sounds like a good plan 👍🏻 also worth mentioning that I didn’t get a single good washday until I was 3 months into my journey, so don’t worry, keep going and it will click! Yes the bond curl is amazing and has a good amount of protein. I would try it and see how your hair responds. Then you could maybe try it a couple of weeks later and see if it helps more or if your hair starts to feel rough then maybe that’s too often. Its trial and error really 😃
@@MarisasCurls Thanks for the thoughtful reply and encouragement, I appreciate it! Keep these videos coming. On a side note, it’s fun to converse with someone in Scotland, I’m in Texas. 😊
Hi Marisa, thank you for this video. Are you from Scotland? I don't hear a strong accent but I'm sure I detect some Scottish. Thanks to your videos, I have ordered Curl Keeper Original. I'd never heard of it until you mentioned it and I am thinking it just might be the perfect styling product for my waves.
Born and bred in the Highlands! How wonderful. I have always wanted to visit there as it looks like such a scenic and beautiful part of Scotland. I'm in Wales. I forgot to say that your hair really suits you going back off your face like that. It looks pretty ❤️
Sorry to interrupt.... I'm in the US, born and bred in The South... You do have an accent! 😂 And you'd think I have an accent , too! ❤ I could listen to you talk all day!
This was soooo helpful! I think this sounds like me because I've noticed my curls dropping, falling flat and feeling very soft. I have fine hair texture as well and low density hair. I clarify regularly (I use the Noughty Detox Dynamo which I looove!) so I might try and condition less. Do you have any product recommendations that light weight? Especially within Umberto Giannini and Noughty (or that are budget friendly). Also, thank you for the product recommendations with grit! And thank you for explaining moisture = conditioner - I've been trying to figure out for ages what this means lol Thank you so so much!
I’m so happy this was helpful! Les’s conditioner is a good start. I would definitely recommend trying a protein treatment and see if that helps too. All of those gritty products in the video are also lightweight. Maybe stay away from cream and leave ins for a bit and just style with gel. The umberto jelly is lightweight and not ultra conditioning but not particularly gritty. The Noughty primer spray is good and has some protein 😃 and works well with hair scrunching jelly too
@MarisasCurls Thank you sooo much. I'll give a try and see how I get on😊 Oh! And 2 curly hair myths - 1) I need to know what my curl type is to get the best curls and 2) It takes too much time/too many steps
Funny, but that's kinda given me a list of products to avoid as the LA Hold gel flash dries on my hair, breaking up all the clumpsa nd leaving it a mess. I'm guessing grit isn't for me. 🤷🏻♀️ I'll be interested to see how the refresh spray works on washday, as I was thinking about that. I put gel on in the shower then, after squeezing a bit of water out, I'll add more. The spray might work well at this point. 🤔
Haha that’s handy though! As gritty products aren’t for everyone. Especially if you have coarse hair it can be too much texture. I do find gritty products often need a lot more water. I have to use most of them on soaking wet hair
@@MarisasCurls Hmm, I'm wondering why they don't seem to suit me (says she making a sweeping generalisation on using one product!😂😂), as I have fine hair and always style soaking wet. I just need to replace some gel that gets micro-plopped off. 🤔😵💫 TBH, I love my hair being soft...😊
I'm not sure what to do with my hair 😅. I just started with my natural hair a month ago. Idk if it's over moisturized or stringy from damage but some days it falls soo fast but also is stringy and frizzy
It’s very normal for that to be the case when you just start out. There is lots of experimenting involved to find out what products and techniques work best for your hair, it took me 3 months to get a decent result when I started out 😃
Thanks for the examples of gritty products. Really helpful 👍🏻
You are welcome!!
I've been watching you for years, and this is my favorite video of yours. You describe my hair - fine, easily over-moisturized, and loves protein. ❤
I’m so so happy to read that, it was nice to do a more chatty info based video and it’s good to hear it’s useful!
I was just watching one of your videos from 5 years ago and your hair is STUNNING now!!! Great work!
Oh thank you so so much!
I love that Curlsmith mousse! I've been using the Shape Up Aqua Gel with the mousse on top and getting amazing results!!
Oo that’s a good shout!
Looking great 🎉🎉🎉🎉
You look amazing 😍❤
Aw thank you 😃

What is a good clarifying shampoo very dry hair does not have a very strong fragrance and color safe
😢
Noughty detox Dynamo is an excellent one. Clarifying but still gentle 😃
Thanks
