For those of you who don't understand, Derby is a sport where you have to go around on a rink on roller skates. The challenge is that, if you're not a jammer, you have to make a pack with your team and try to stop the other teams jammer from getting through your pack, while letting your jammer through. The amount of times your jammer can go around the rink will determine how many points you guys get.

There's a couple ways, one of them is using those little stopper things in the front, you can also start by the angle your quads are at, if they're turned a little, it creates enough friction to start moving.

+MadameTamma I am sorry to disagree but I have not seen "the really cute" in this video and I've watched it a couple of times. Most of these ladies are less feminine than the bear from 'The Revenant'.

I feel super blessed to have participated in a 6 hour training session from the Rose City Rollers who came to our Humboldt Roller Derby team. What an incredible experience it was.
I just cannot recommend roller derby enough. DO IT!

You go ahead and give it a try. I have a do both Soccer and Derby... Derby is much more physically demanding.

As a football player (soccer does not exist) i can tell you that i would probably smash all of these girls away. People like to be cocky about football players, they also were cocky when i made a tryout with the american football team. Until i finished the season of one of their receivers and they told me to please not tackle that harshly anymore. There are pussies everywhere and there are tough persons everywhere and football players like Robbie Keane would rip you into pieces.

Oh, I love Derby!! These women are so completely awesome!!! Is there a way I can get involved? I've asked around, and although there is a 'Pro" skate shop that sells Derby skates, no one seems to have any info on try-outs for a local team. I really want to do this!!

A Stanley You will probably want to wait until you pass your Basic Training. Professional skates are made for aggressive speed skating and need to be ordered through a reputable dealer. Skaters will upgrade their parts and replace parts as needed (trucks, wheels, bearings and headwear). I suggest asking advice from other skaters on your team and reading reviews of Pro skates. After you make a choice, contact your rink owner for more help.
A Stanley hey girl. I also live in Phoenix Arizona and we do, in fact have a roller derby! They practice on Sunday the 8th at Tempe Town Lake from 2-4. Their Facebook page name is Arizona Renegade Rollergirls!

I wish the current Roller Derby was skated on a banked track... That just makes the game so much better and the skaters move faster.
There are banked tracks.... A good amount of teams play banked track.
themotownboy1 Go to L.A. or Austin. Or google it, its a real thing.
The plus side to flat track, is that you can play it in most sport venues after 15-30 minutes of laying the track.
So I think that is the reason flat track is so popular.

themotownboy1 I skate for rose city in the jr section it is flat I think is because they have kids skating and the kid most likely learned to skate on a flat surface that is just what I think

wow I want to do this now. I already skate super fast at the skating rink, and love weaving through the peoples at high rates of speed, having near collisions. It's just annoying when there's kids on the floor because I don't wanna go too fast and freak em out. Anyway. How the heck do I get started?

You can really do it at any age. You just have to look it up. They'll put you in a lower level at first, then give you a series of tests, and if you do well, you'll continue to move up.

Hey, i do Junior Roller Derby and it’s not scared at all, you ease into it. You go from learning to fall to playing your first bout in maybe a year. Level two bouts are much different than this. This bout it level three. Level two you have to stop before hitting it’s very easy and fun i suggest you join
