    Got mine about 8 months ago and I love it. Was looking for a good first AR and happened upon mine on consignment. Swapped out the front rail for the lancer carbon fiber and lightened the weapon amazingly well and helped with the heat. Awesome awesome review sir.

    Good vid sir! Congratulation to an high end premium gun. In germany you HAVE to buy premium rifles in cause of the fact that you are allowed to own only 3 semi-auto rifles (beside handguns). The good thing buying premium stuff is that you buy once. Greetings from the merkel-regime to a free country like yours (yet). I apologize for my bad english!

    I have a gen 2 that came with the full length rail, a lancer magazine, but no sling, rail cover, or backup sights. I had a difficult time getting it zeroed. I always admired the 416 and the 516 is very solid. I have an MCX Virtus and an Adams Arms as far as piston guns.

    Mine cost me $1450 American in Alaska, in 2012. I think mine is the model they had before this one, with Mag Pul grip, stock and not Cerakoted. Maybe the Gen 2? Anyway mine runs great, very happy with it. The barrel is a 1 in 7 twist, and intended for using the heavier bullets, even though it shoots the lighter stuff just fine. Try the Hornandy .223 in 68 gr match, or the 75 gr match. See how they perform for tightening your groups. That platform is intended to be accurate to 300 meters. So if you have 2 MOA groups at 100 yards, they will be 6 inch groups at 300 yards. That is considered combat effective and Accurate if it was applied in military use. If you find a cartridge that can give you 2 MOA consistently, that’s what you should expect from this rifle, especially with 62 gr bullets and above. I’m running mine with a Leupold Fire Dot VXR-6, in 3x9. I can’t believe how much you paid for it over there. They sell FN Scars for that much, here in Alaska. Have fun.

    Very impressive review. Just have to love SIG SAUER. I believe you have a Gen 1 but again I could be wrong. The Gen 2 gun has some nice upgrades and they reworked the piston and the barrel which is nitrate coated now. SIG introduced the Gen 3 last year and made even more upgrades. I have the Gen 2 and love it. All three guns are quality and I am glad to see that you have taken such a liking to yours. Best of luck with it...........

    • @Yankeepride03

      Rob M Its definitely a Gen 2. The Gen2 dropped the bayonet lug and put a ambi safety and B5 stock on it.

    • @diegrinder6851
      @diegrinder6851 4 роки тому

      Hi Rob, the rifle reviewed in the Video is a late model Gen 2

    • @diegrinder6851
      @diegrinder6851 4 роки тому +1

      @@Yankeepride03 Actually that is not entirely true. The Gen 2 going back to 2012 had the upgraded gas block and piston but still retained the bayonet lug and came with Magpul MOE pistol Grip and Butt Stock and did not have the Ambidextrous Safety, nor the extended Bolt Release, featured on the rifle in the above video. However the early Gen 2 does feature the ambi-mag release. The Early Gen II also came with Sig flip up sights (same as above) and a "Sig Sling" essentially a near worthless 3 point sling.
      The early Sig Gen 2 also does not have the Big round Sig Logo machined into the Left side of the mag well on the lower like the one featured in the video above. The early Gen 2 just has a Fat Sig Sauer machined into the mag well on the Left in line with the mag release / catch lever.
      The early Gen 2 BCG and Piston looks exactly like the one in the video above.
      Gas block on the Gen 1 compared to the Gen 2: Note, the 2 machined squares on each side of the gas block on the rifle featured in the video above. These are also present on the early Gen 2 with the bayonet lug. However, on a Gen 1 Gas block these appear to be completely machined out like little windows exposing the barrel inside of the gas block.
      Also, looking back at early promo vids and photos it looks like The Gen 1 Gas block had a a few options on the Bock, w/ bayonet lug forward of the block, machined in under the block (but did not protrude past the front face of the block, and totally sans lug. On early Gen 2 The bayonet lug protrudes forward of the front face on the block.

    Nice video. Pretty sure that is a gen 1 516. Robert Hirt works for Caracal now, he designed the 816 and the 814 . The 816 is the 3rd rendition of the HK 416. The sig 516 is still one of my favorite guns( and I have many).i think that gun is worth every penny also.It’s 1289.00 on gun broker (fde). The gen 2 is a bit lighter, different gas block etc. You’re very passionate about your gun, I like that. Enjoy your gun.

    Video very well done. It reminds me of the first M16 A1 rifle assigned to me in boot camp year 1977 when I was a young 18 year old recruit.
    When I move out of California to 2nd amendment friendly state like Florida God willing I will consider purchasing either a Colt le 6920 or Sig 516. I purchased a Colt CAR 15 SP1 in 1980 when I got out of the USMC since then California banned or altered all AR15 to make law abiding citizens sitting ducks.

    Other than a bigger price what is better with the 416? How is proprietary better? The SIG516 Gen 2 is every bit as good as the 416 IMHO. It looks like you have the 1st run version Gen2 and not the latest version

    • @jeffflick2573
      @jeffflick2573 4 роки тому

      H&K 416 is a decent rifle but the 516 M2 is a good bit cheaper as far as price and just as good or I think better than the high dollar H&K. My 2 favorites is the Sig Sauer 516 M2 and the Adcor A15 elite. Like the Sig its also a short stroke gas piston carbine that has a forward assist on the front rail. The forward assist can be put on the left or right side of the front rail and the Adcor A15 elite runs clean also! H&K is way too over priced and won't last as long as the Sig 516 M2 or the Adcor A15 elite.

    I'm curious to know what year you bought your 516? The reason I ask is I see the image on the box does not match the stock that's on your rifle. Mine came with a stock made by SIG or a contractor thereof and looks like the one on your box. I specifically went out and bought myself a B5 SOPMOD stock, because I hated the stock it came with! B5 Systems is the current government contractor of the GI SOPMOD, after LMT lost the contract, largely due to price.

    • @diegrinder6851
      @diegrinder6851 4 роки тому

      I wouldn't. I tried to once and it didn't seem to like it. Then I happened to read an article on Steel Ammo, they did an extensive study, shooting like at least 10,000 rounds of steel though several name brand AR-15's or till they failed. Interesting study some top brands did not fare well and gacked up after only a few thousand, (I want to say less than 4K) and they found all sorts of problems.
      The real stand out was that the steel cased ammo also using a bimetal cladding on the bullet tended to cause issues of melting the hole in the barrel for the gas port, kinda jetted it, like a torch cut the barrel, in addition to the above normal wear on the rifling.

      No, not in the ,Sig 516. Sig makes weapons chambered in 7.63x39, but this is not it. The Sig 516 rifles are 5.56 / .223 only, just like the Sig 716 is .308 / 7.62 x51 What you are thinking of is the Sig 556R and the Sig 556 XI Russian Rifle.

      @@ejazbashir5727 Research the Sig / Swiss SA 550 series rifles. They are chambered in 5.56 / .223 But also have a 7.62 x 39 version in both rifle and Pistol versions. Fact the design of the weapon is a lot like a AK-47 in the design of the bolt carrier group, piston and has block. Even the magazine release on the original SAs are copied from a AK. That changed to be more AR like for the Sig US market, however.
