    6:13 The thought of using Gmail as a case management sysem makes me shudder. As a lawyer, using Gmail to handle confidential information arguably puts you at risk of breaching your duty of confidentiality. I would try to avoid using e-mail in general for sensitive information.
    Law firms, particularly large firms, are frequently targeted by hackers due to the sensitive data they have about clients. The weak links are usually individual employees who are not following good information security practices.

      "Congress" is to blame. They regulate the shit out of normal citizens who are categorized as medium class just so corporations have more power over them. There was a recent documentary about the Hemp business that clearly demonstrates it. The cost to enter the market is licensing fees. And they're so expensive with so many regulations for the small guy, that it becomes a mission to mars, just to stay in business.

    There are many many people that have limited knowledge that need more of your tutorials and any step by step instructions that they can get.
    I firmly believe that there are more people that are at risk using the internet than you can imagine. But getting help is at best frustrating and so incomplete that most people that reach out end up by giving up.
    You have the knowledge and the expertise and if you have the desire to share that knowledge it will find a place.
    The reason we have so many accidents in general aviation is because there is not enough in depth and thorough teaching of the basic principles of flight.

    Dragging email around is work. An automatic way to remove it from the server after a period of time is to use IMAP on all clients except your desktop running Thunderbird. There, use POP and tell it to leave emails on the server for however many days you think you may need access. Let's say 30 days. After 30 days, Thunderbird will delete it from the server.

    I'm not buying the premise that keeping a empty inbox prevents the provider from seeing your older emails. From a technological standpoint, they don't need to delete the mail when requested, just not show it to you anymore.

    • @robbraxmantech
      @robbraxmantech  2 роки тому +9

      So you'd rather keep 20 years of email at gmail in an inbox? It's a matter of bad to worse. The premise is: Email is Unsafe. But doing something is better than doing nothing. Outside of your inbox, the data will eventually become stale

    • @stevestevens4978
      @stevestevens4978 2 роки тому +1

      @@robbraxmantech No I'd argue that it doesn't matter in the area of privacy. On the concern of google indexing your inbox, the better solution is to get your email from a server that doesn't sell/scrape your inbox to begin with. Such as (I would assume) the email service you are providing. Though I do not disagree with core premise of email being inherently unsafe from a privacy perspective.
      edit: Don't get me wrong I love what you've been doing, I think it's great. I just disagree with you on that point.

    • @robbraxmantech
      @robbraxmantech  2 роки тому +1

      I'm not understanding what you're saying here. The issue is someone already on gmail. I'm not telling anyone to start any major emailing on gmail. That is the exact opposite of what I'm saying. What I am saying is that if you're already on gmail for 20 years, then drag your inbox to another email account or to a local folder. Remove it from gmail.
      Now you were saying that it doesn't guarantee that they don't have a copy. But that is neither here nor there since we have no choice but to empty the inbox and hope that the old data will be stale in archive and no longer referenced in the future.
      It is a realistic expectation since it's easier to program reading the active inbox.

      @BRIANREYN1 2 роки тому +3

      @@robbraxmantech How can we 'drag' our inbox to another email account? Your question lacks context, and Google isn't keen on providing lots of results for "Wifi 6 Sense", so here's the missing explanation of what you're talking about: Because wifi-6 includes complex capabilities for devices to locate their positions relative to one another in 3D space, it's possible for several wifi-6 devices to detect and triangulate motion within an area by watching for subtle changes in signal strength. The capability is strong enough that some companies are already monetizing this tech.

      It also goes faaaar beyond what you have stated. It's also not approved by the IEEE yet and will be modified before it is released to the general public. There are some implementations of it but as I said, it's not rolled out yet, we will have to wait until 2024.

    Thanks for a very informative video, just thinking about using different email addresses.... if you own your own domain, and use this for 4 different email addresses, I assume it would be possible for someone to find out who owns the domain?.... or is there a way to hide this, or should email for app login and shopping use "generic" domains, ie. gmail etc...?

    Come on ! How big is your sailboat? I had a 30’ Cal with a shoal keel and I loved her, she was a fast boat for her size and could sail very close to the wind and fast. She was mine for 20 years and was better when I sold her than when I purchased her. I still miss her very much. Your boat seems to be at lease a 50’ footer.

What I'd like is a simple self installer that does all the hard set up work, and then be able to use xmpp like I would use email - destination, my username, and the message. At this stage I'm not even sure this is possible.

I have outlook mail, but decided to proceed anyway. So far it seems to be working with my outlook mail. You said in your video that you were doing additional testing with K9. If you could look into this issue, that would be helpful. And if there are limitations with K9 and outlook/microsoft exchange, could you suggest another option?

    Rob hi, id like to follow your email advice but I'm a bit confused. I'm on Yahoo mail (YM), and have downloaded Thunderbird (TB). If I transfer mails from YM onto TB via IMAP then mails only copy down from YM but stay on YM right? So even if I drag mails into a local folder on TB then all original mails still exist on YM? I assume your suggestion to 'drag mails into a private local or Brax.me email folder' only makes sense from privacy perspective if I completely remove those mails from YM by transfering to TB via POP3-correct? And does TB have an app so I can view same email acounts/folders across multiple devices? Or will I only see TB mails/folders on PC but not phone? Thank you and keep up your fantastic interesting and hard work, much appreciated.

    Sort of a tongue in cheek post........but not really.
    Everyone is concerned lately about email privacy. I do not understand why. It is mostly attainable. Simply make a text document as your message, encrypt with Ccrypt or GPG, and then embed into a .jpg picture of a kitten and attach to your email of your choice and send it as normal.
    The text in the message body of your email can say,"Hi, look at my new kitten." Problem solved at least for normal levels of scrutiny.
    Yes this may mean learning some new skills but it is not that hard and all of the software to do it is FREE.

    Some of the info mentioned in the video was a bit misleading.
    Services like Microsoft e-mail (and others, but I know MS has been doing it for _ages)_ will download the content onto _THEIR_ servers first as a proxy, so it won't reveal your device info nor IP info. The only thing that it will possibly/likely do is confirm that the message was opened (albeit the senders should maybe realize that it was opened by the mail server and hence that the _user_ may have not actually opened/read it)
    I think I heard that Apple mail service has recently started to do the same thing (which I was surprised at, because I think Microsoft has been doing it for like 10+ years or something)
    I'm also pretty sure that many/most e-mail services (such as Microsoft) hide the sender IP address when sending e-mail as well. Is that only true if webmail is used? I don't know for sure, but I thought that if using an e-mail client that it would still hide the IP address. Am I mistaken?

    • @robbraxmantech
      @robbraxmantech  2 роки тому +1

      You are very mistaken. I've tested all of this. Some in live videos. This is no mystery. Just check the headers of emails you send to yourself. I've tested beacon attacks against those email clients. They revealed the IP addresses.

    So i somehow do not get the difference of online stores and app logins.
    e.g. Amazon is an app and a store, as well is ebay. also paypal is an app and a financial service.
    i believe giving different security rings/levels (just as with password-difficulty) to different activities based on their personal relevance keeping certain addresses tighter than others or even building distinct personal profiles based on non-intersecting interests.
    Also moving to another mail for personal communication people will incorporate the new mail address into their profile of mine, lumping together both addresses on provider side and moving the shadow profile heat to another profile coupling on temporal level.
    I do like the thought of the dedicated 2FA phone number but actually you would need one per distinct "profile".
    also yea pulling the mails from the servers should really be done but in the moment i don't know a better solution to it. I only think it should not rely on human interaction.
    PS: what would be great is a private, limited access, document share link.

    I've had things semi-separate for convenience and spam email purposes but trying to figure out how to tackle this better. You mention using a fresh gmail for social media but what about the online stores/purchasing one? It seems like having the address and stores you buy from on google is a bad idea. You could automatically download/delete anything over 2 weeks old (normal turn around time on an order) to minimize data on their server to profile off of but that's still not perfect. It also seems kind of dumb to pay $5 or $10 a month for an account that basically serves as a temp storage for shipping notifications and receipts. Any suggestions on a good happy medium here anyone? Right now I've got one old gmail account that has my purchasing and social media just to keep all the spam and marketing out of my main email but want to start the transition off of that to a better system.
