Yeah. That motor is usable just the way it is. Couple hrs taking stuff apart and cleaning it and they could put it right back in. Little water won’t kill it. I’ve seen way worse marine engines sunk in SALT WATER that went back in and are still running to this day after being cleaned.
Hone the cylinder walls replace the main & rod bearing's and piston rings take the head apart and clean it replace the valve seals & your ready to go !!!!!!!
Don't swap the old head onto the new engine. Likely the only thing it needs is a good cleaning and lapping the valves. Maybe new valve seals. Don't go crazy honing the cylinders. You probably don't even need to change the rod or main bearings. My biggest concern would be the condition of the injectors and fuel pump.
What we used to do on diesel recovery on flooded yachts is water stays in the oil pan an pushes the oil up into the cylinder walls and head.So we would drain water take out injectors and see if it shoots oil outta the head where injectors where,If it did it’s a good diesel an then fill it all the way up to the head with diesel until ready to work on it..that saves condensation from getting in and creating rust. We’d put turbos in 20 gallon buckets an fill with diesel as well.pay off was great..Good find and great price guys..Awesome job.
Full replacement makes far more sense, getting a good used is the best possible way. Hope it works well. Just the DPF filter alone is worth the money. Get it baked, a diesel shop would do that.
The head on the used motor is a easy clean up & reuse it. What ever head you use replace the valve seals there cheap and way easer to change when you have it all apart.
Keep a record of your engine serial numbers and arrangement numbers. Your new engine may be a tier 4 final using a DEF system, depending on date of manufacture. You will need to compare the parts consist lists to verify the same pistons (carefully clean the tops of the pistons, you may be able to read the part numbers. Your valve cover tags should say the emissions level for each engine. Be sure you get the latest part number head gasket. Your CAT dealer can bake the wet particulate trap. The catalyst section can wash out. Your failed block and crankshaft are worth something as cores to a rebuilder.
Your clips are the higlight of my week. You share so much positive energy and happyness you share wih all the viewers., i luv ever adveture and new build you choose. Maye 2 clips a week would be nice. Thank for everything
Send both blocks out to get an acid bath to remove all rust and other contaminants. The machine the head surfaces as per in the manual for that engine. Unless they measure true flat. Clean all threaded holes with proper sized taps.
Great score Gents! Inspect, clean and reseal that bad boy and get it in your skid steer. If there are no "stuck" assemblies clean the corrosion and let her rip!
Having a giveaway dose nothing to build your channel great content will do that. You guys already have that it just need a bit of polishing up. Keep up the hard work i love watching all your builds & thanks 4 taking all the time to share it with us.
For any engine that has been "submerged", before you buy it you should pull the dip stick. If it was truly submerged the crankcase will be full of water and it will squirt out. This good because the oil will be in the head/under the valve covers and with no air in the crankcase the crank, rods and bearing won't rust. If the owner will let you and it is not too much hassle, pull the injectors/spark plugs and see if you can bar the engine over. If not, start walking.
Guys $800 for a nearly new engine sounds like a pretty good deal especially once u dug Into the block to find the pistons and valves were pretty much ok. Bit of corrosion to clean up, you should be good to go... as you say make one hood one out of two to get virtually a new engine!! Great build guys really enjoying it. Good luck re assembling all those bits!! Keep up the good work!
So did you really need to remove the hydraulic drive motor with it or could you just undo the two bolts on it and slide the engine off leaving it in the machine? I’m doing the same thing right now.
What you called the SCR is really the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and it was ruined when it was flooded. But because it has either platinum or palladium coating it can be sold to a scrapper. The DPF can be cleaned.
Turbo rebuild - the nut on the blades - you may have trouble getting it apart BECAUSE most turbos have the fan blade shaft peaned over to prevent the nut from backing off during operation & the fan disintergrating destroying the motor. You'd be well advised to do the same if you rebuild the turbo
May I recommend that you rebuild the other engine and sell it. You should be able to triple your money back easily and it would be a relative low cost to do. Those little engines are very popular and would not hang around long once you listed it. Get the crank polished. Two pistons and two new rods, sleeves, valve seals, rings and a new bearing kit. Have flooded parts boiled to remove rust, block and head. Fix or clean turbo if you want to but I see no need. Just do the engine and that is enough. You can repair starter, alternator, egr can be soaked and cleaned easily. Its what is done on tractor trailers in between replacement to get extra miles before a eight thousand dollar replacement fee. just a thought.
Rings will be needed if you hone the cylinders, they usually only seat once but you might try some red Scotch bright pads to clean em up some. If you do hone the cylinders I'd suggest a flex hone (some call it a ball hone).
I'd take the low hour head you plan to use to a machine shop to be tanked and rebuilt. Always go with low hour parts. It shouldn't be overly expensive if it's in good shape.
Hey 800 bucks for a parts engine is like a parts vehicle you take what you can to make the build work, so nothing wrong with that in my books. You saved a lot of coin in my opinion. You can take the old block and try and sell it someone may want it or throw it in the scrap metal pile., I think you got a lot of good useable part of the 800 engine to cut down on the rebuild costs, that can only help in the long run, if you keep it and use its a cheap machine, if you flip it or use it and then flipit then there is a chance to earn your money back and a profit and who doesnt like that
id use the newer starter and alternator , just to see if they do work ,once you have your answer then put the old ones back on, then you either have spares or more to add to the junk pile
When you get head of make sure all pistons come too the top easy check for bent rods use the head that came with the engine just needs a good clean up .
I love it when you guys rebuild equipment new or old. I am a new subscriber so can’t wait to see more videos. Your friend/new from Larned KS Eric Houser.
the problem with flooded engines or anything is getting the silt out of them, it is so fine that it often is not caught in the oil filter and damages the engine, clean clean clean anything you reuse, when swapping parts from one engine to another you need to double check the engine serial numbers to make sure the parts are the same, once you get this engine installed change the oil a few hours after and then again, say two hours then ten hours, that silt is impossible to get out
It may be a good idea to check that all the rods where not slightly bent by checking the piston height when it’s back to together with a dial indicator. sometimes when they take in water they can bend the rod a little bit, but not enough to notice with your eye.
AWESOME BUY!!!! I’ve wanted to buy a Skidsteer from Copart or Insurance Auto AUCTION’s but have always been leery of what happened to u! Just completely DISASSEMBLE THE WATER DAMAGE ENGINE TAKE CRANK & BLOCK TO A MACHINE SHOP THEY CAN HOT TANK THE BLOCK @ Turn & Polish the crank. Buy a COMPLETE REBUILD KIT LINERS PISTONS BEARINGS ETC HAVE THE HEAD RESURFACED & valves ground! All of this will cost u $3,000-$5,000 but u will have a new engine! I personally would delete that exhaust crap
You really should use the newer head, just have it cleaned at a machine shop. That older head with 2500 hours is going to have valve and seat wear which will not be good matched up with a tight lower end. Anyway you're going to come out ahead for sure and have a solid little machine.
Keep the original Block that came out of it you might need it one day then you'll have it on hand then you can rebuild it & then while you take the other one out of the Machine & tear it down you can either be building the other one or have it ready to drop in the Machine & run or the best thing is to do is when you know the one that is in there is getting weak there you are drop the other one in & your Machine will be in service
You guys got an amazing deal on that engine! Use all the parts you can off that engine because those parts will have less wear and they won't be full of metal shavings. Make sure to replace all the seals and gaskets so there will not be any oil leaks in the future.
Ok stop worrying you got a great deal....here’s a plan..get cyl head cleaned and glass beaded and refresh seats and valves with new seals Rebuild starter and alt...remove pistons..hone cyls with ball brush about 280 grit ...new rings and bearings ...inspect oil pump and have injectors and pump checked out...it will be as new ..far better than trying to use anything from the hammered out one...good luck
About the egr/ exhaust , dirt perfect (UA-camr), had a injector problem and he clogged his up. On the advice of his subscribers, he took it apart like you did and soak each section with cleaner, then pressure washed each section out. I’m pretty sure he was advised to spray in a specific direction but I can’t remember.
Heck that stand if it came with it is worth a few bucks alone. At Cat prices you can't have enough spare parts and a couple more 'deals' you will have your journeyman hours in on cat repairs!!
as suspected intake and pistons need soaked, new piston rings and sand blast intake if rust reaction is unsatisfactory then coat with oils and kerosene until it is closed back up check fuel tanks and clean pans The old engine will do well if you put an enlarged oil pump in it to float the new bearings in the original...2 engines better than one make sure the moth baled engine is well buttered petroleum jelly works miracles for moth balling an engine once the deisel hits itit melts away and everything like new
Loving this build series! First video I watched and instantly subscribed. Can’t wait to see how this turns out. Y’all scored with that engine and the comments section is a wealth of info.
I would definitely change out those main bearings also or at least pull the cap off of one and look at it make sure the engine wasn’t ran with water in The oil.
I knew you guys would prevail!! looks like a good start to victory!!! save all the parts until it is all put together. you need spares. sell the odd parts at a later date.
That CAT diesel from a 2020 was a hell of a deal for $800. Good score fellas.
Nice deal, guys. Makes for a better build series!!!
Call da. Cops they stole it

I'd go thru the head and check it out don't know how long it ran without oil or other factors
@@rsprockets7846 That goes with out saying when you take it apart to clean it.

Looks good, as long as it was not salt water should be fine. Great price.
Looked glum when you rolled off the trailer after bringing it home, finding that engine was a great find. Also makes good videos.
Having a giveaway dose nothing to build your channel great content will do that.
You guys already have that it just need a bit of polishing up. Keep up the hard work i love watching all your builds & thanks 4 taking all the time to share it with us.
This is gonna be an EPIC Skiddy when its done!
I think 800$ is a deal..seems the guy was straight up with you about the flood damage..hopefully between the two engines you can a make one that works
I wish I had the resources what awesome adventure. good luck!
Hope it works out for you . Mix and Match
You can jet wash the dpf and dry it out no problem the old one will be full of oil anyway and would be a disaster when you started it up.
get them both cleaned from a DPF cleaning company then they will have a spare or one to sell, they arent cheap.
Why don't you use the new head? It will have very little wear and no bearing contamination.

Good job guys. This build will be worth it. After you get this machine running you will be able to do a lot of things around the shop.
I love the wonder twins work. I’m not worried. Plus I see the Confidence in your faces. Keep up the great work

That old block will make a great boat anchor.
Glad you guy's decided to rebuild it.
Glad you guys stuck with this build! Great Job!
Great job. I’d make a coffee table from the old block for the office. Nice job
I love the way you guys are always optimistic. Always happy and enthusiastic. Good luck.
Wow, what a great deal. I would scrap all unused parts except for Alternator and Starter so you can recoup some of the money back.
Don't forget to clean the intercooler on the machine. Could have some oil left inside from the rollover.
So did you really need to remove the hydraulic drive motor with it or could you just undo the two bolts on it and slide the engine off leaving it in the machine? I’m doing the same thing right now.

That engine doesn’t scare me one bit. Heck of a good buy. That thing will run like a champ.
Loved to see you work your magic on the broken one
So happy that you found an engine. God Bless
I think it should work out great and very cost effective by getting the whole motor ,mix and match best parts from each and good to go .

Thanks for sharing your video we are really enjoying watching the process 🥂
I love your videos esp ones on heavy machinery like skid steers and excavators
For $800 the stand was a good deal. Bonus you were able to take it apart without heat.
Looks like you got a great deal. Looking forward to seeing you get that thing running
Super deal on that Cat engine guys. Keep up the good work.
The Cat Gods must be smiling on you. They made up for the Copart minefield. Good job! The old block is best as a sea anchor. Keep it going!
Really good deal.I would keep old engine. And do the rebuild. On the spare time.
Hell of a risk but as they say “no risk, no reward” should definitely be able to make one good out of two bad. Good luck!
Interesting stuff. I also am in SC.
New to the channel and I am enjoying the 24 hour builds
Keep up the good work. Excellent deal with this diesel engine 👏
A perfect deal you guys has all the luck off the world with that flooded motor.
