Your content is really thorough and as a newbie to motorcycles and building my own, it’s nice to finally see a video that breaks things down in an easy to understand kind of way!
@@BrickHouseBuilds I do! It’s frustrating to search UA-cam for how to do complicated things only to find time lapse videos without explanation narratives. I’m building a 1982 Virago XV750 cafe racer. I got an m-button and M-unit blue. The wiring seems really daunting but excited to take a stab at it
@@justinlacy8428 Its not so bad. Try to draw out a diagram that is easy for you to understand and follow. Put arrows on there to map the flow of current, that helps make it a bit more clear
Oh the fun of colour codes. Older Aprilias use blue for earth, green / black for switched live before the fuse, and green after the fuse. Aren't standards great!
That was a great video, very informative. Im grappling with an original CX500 loom at the moment that has a few additions and a few things removed. The original fuse board had to be removed and a new digital clock and idiot lights have been installed. Much of the wiring that was in the headlamp has been badly mistreated. I have followed things the way you have. The diagrams are a must. Then draw out your own diagrams to suit your modifications. Makes things much clearer. The new style cable you are using, I think over here its called thin wall cable.
I enjoy your channel. You do a great job and your content is excellent. I was subbed but for some reason, I got un-subbed. I was wondering why I wasn't getting any notifications. Anyway, I'm back and I do order from links, so thanks.
Awesome videos. What an excellent job you have done to the cx. As always you are very informative and a pleasure to watch. I’m in the middle of a sportster build and your methodical way of doing things are an inspiration which hopefully I can replicate on my own builds.
Do you have any suggestions for a bike without any readily available wiring diagrams? I have an original harness that's all cut up, but not much more than that. It's a carb 250cc twin
@@BrickHouseBuilds I'm not sure where I would get one. The bike was a Chinese clone of a Honda 250cc twin on what appeared to be a Honda shadow frame and body.
Bout to try an refurbish/rebuild the harness on my newly aquired 06 CBR 600rr. The harness is looking like crap an the connectors look dirty an crusty, is there any type of cleaner/spray to clean the connectors to get them atleast looking decent? Should buy all new wire an completely rebuild or just cut the old tape off try to clean an re-wrap?
For plastic portions basic wd40 and a toothbrush work great. For electronic parts some electronics spray works well. If the wires ohm out good id avoid taking the time to rewire and just tape the necessary areas.
i have a 1996 1200 sportster .i bouth a 1998 wire harness how do you adapt this harness to fit the 96 bike ,some things are different like the main fuse is 30 on the 98 harness but the 96 calls for a 30 among other things.
Larry there is no way I can possibly answer that. You would have to carefully compare the two bikes diagrams and figure out what needs to be changed/moved/repinned/etc
I have a 2 slot female connector coming of my main harness but I am having a hard time trying to find out where to plug it in. IV dune it 3times , but for the life of it,I'm at the end of my rope as soon as I have it in I get my red,s back up . thankyou sir.just me. Desperate.
Hey Peter that is nearly impossible to help with beyond my standard answer which is make sure you have a service manual. You can reference the wiring diagrams for color codes on that plug and go from there. I would say look for the matching 2 pin male connector but I'm sure you have already.
For me I can just look at the wire and know the size by now but a quick way to gauge approximately how big they are would be to compare to some strippers.
Thanks for the vid. Is it possible to do an actual example: first explain the diagram and what you are going to do, then talk us through on the actual bike doing the work? Just an idea
This video would be the exact thing you are after. I was diagnosing an electrical fault with the lights and document clearly how I worked through the diagram to sort it. ua-cam.com/video/9z5FfETuay8/v-deo.html
Ahh I see. You can either ask for a diagram from the manufacturer of the controls or you can spend some time with a multimeter and test continuity of the various wires to eachother to determine what switch is what set of wires
I have a no charge system on 750/4 k5 .the 8pin plug from stator loom is rusty crusty and bad connectors . Chose to remove and fit spade type connectors with clear heat shrink tubing giving me 7 singles . After a few hours of crimping and cleaning etc i find out im about ,3/4inch to short to make a connection . WHAT DO I DO NOW . ????????
@@BrickHouseBuilds i have tryed to pull loom from headlight under coils to gain any spare length i can get but still short and would be far to tight if i could get them joined. I think from top branch off to 8 pin connector was and solder in 3inches would give me plenty of extra length. Do joins create resistance . ?
@@jamiestanley8774 So if you have the original split regulator and selenium rectifier now may be a good chance to upgrade to a modern all in one voltage reg/rec.
