Does anyone else just really love the noise. I absolutely love the noise.
CanYouNot : I love it. I love it.
Everything is noise. It’s all about how you decipher it.
I can't even begin to describe how much I love the noise.. Always have / will
check out mbv then (you've probably heard of them who am I kidding)
WHAT?.....can´t hear you!
Steve Shelley all day every day, forever. What a beast!
Alan Leizerman : Best drummer ever.
Shelley was certainly a find; there are drummers and then there are drummers ey?
Always wondered how they would have sounded if they had hard-rocking drummer like Grohl. But Shelley's drumming suits their music, I guess.
@@1985cactus Steve was pretty hard rocking. He was in a hardcore band before SY.
@@jdhightower Steve's drumming style wasn't really heavy.
hardest job in the world: sonic youth guitar tech
David Pavelko : For real. I once heard that Sonic Youth traveled with over 100 guitars when on tour. Insane!
Thats why Lee and Thurston were part of their guitar tech crew. Obv doesnt work when theyre on stage, but they would fix their guitars up on and off tour themselves often. I wonder how many hands they had at max...
MorbidManMusic . One word to rebutt that statement: EDGDED
@MorbidManMusic They're tuned very specifically. Being a guitar tech for the Youth would entail checking the tuning on upwards of 30 instruments, plus making sure they were all set up properly.
@@illuminatibraincontrol I read that the long feedback drone segues came to be because in the early days before they had dozens of guitars and techs, they'd use those segues to retune or swap out themselves. Bad Moon Rising was actually composed around that idea. Necessity and the mother of invention and all that.
I like the drummer, he looks like an accountant since the 80', but is a total badass.
Steve Shelley, he is indeed a total badass
The breakup of this band is the greatest musical tragedy of the 21st century (so far, anyway....).
B Reeves : I was thinking the same thing.
The biggest is really the departure of one of the best voices ever! Chris Cornell! RIP
Blame courtney love
so very true, i listen to them almost everyday (my writing music) and i'm still broken hearted
@Philip Kerr Yeah, Sonic Youth.
I think Goo really jumpstarted the 90s alt scene, and if Kurt were still here, he might agree.
to quote Kurt ... "you guys are really.... neat."
Champaign sprays all over the room.
I sometimes put on the Goo vinyl on my record player and being grateful of its’ impact on the grunge scene and the indie scene
way to many things led up to that. no one single trail. Iggy
thurston looking 17 in his late 40s... wtf
Philip Kerr aye shut up bitch
He still looks 17 in his 60’s now!
@@kevinmurtagh4996 he certainly does not
That transition between songs was brought to you by 25 yrs in the making.
It sounds a lot like "Mother Sky" by Can
mote is one of the best SY songs
Lee is magic
pedalboard of him is 10/10
magically
Lee is Free!
If I were of sound mind and body and were able to make clear conclusion based decisions from the mid to late 1990s to the early 2Ks, I would have found a way to follow these guys around like the Grateful Dead every year.
Instead I hung out on the west coast and got a degree in art which pushed me into such a confining skill set that it only lasted for a few years. #BLYAT!
omg lee has a amazing voice
Truely!
Easily my favorite SY singer
Sonic Youth: 30 years taming chaos
Never to be repeated. Amazing band. 👍
I love the space between Mote and New Hampshire; the reason they were so good live is their transitions / segues IMO
they told about the idea was to link both albums between the 90's and the 00's era. an amazing idea
😊😊😊
No love for Lee Ranaldo, mans a legend
I think there's plenty of love for Lee, he's an excellent artist.
I just love those angry guitars
Me to !!
derpokerlude Me To(o)
vlado andonov : yeah, me too.
unique style very unique
KIM IS A GODDESS !!!!!!!!
ioannis eleftheriou : Yes! Best legs in music! Best everything!
Η ΚΙΜ ειναι θεα !!!!!!!!
The sound we need today
Jim really gets into the zone on the base in New Hampshire; he earned his place on the team for the few albums he caught the Sonic Youth train
For sure, I'd argue Murray St. was among their top 5 albums
I think this may be my favorite live SY piece on UA-cam. Has some of all of their best qualities.
Been a fan of Sonic Youth, since, I was a teen, in the late 80s into the 90s, a pitty, they broke up, but, still, like their music and it never gets old
Kim Gordon...I love you,baby Post-Punk!!!
Best band ever! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That transition might be of the the best examples of why this is the greatest band in the world. New Hampshire is my absolute favorite SY song
My eyes
I've never used this term before, but fuck it... that was blistering!
That drop at 1:03 just gave me goosebumps everywhere \m/
every time
way to cool
Great colors on those Jazzmasters
Steve. Shelley.
United States of Tinnitus!
Love it!
the best band in the world
Mote!
I love Sonic Youth ! ❤❤❤❤
one of the maturest tracks of SY -new hampshire - from here there is nowhere to rise to..
This is just... Just.... Just so fucking intense!
Sonic life! Sonic fucking Youth forever!
Thats Rock and Roll, Baby..!!
no, its noise
I love Kim, Sonic Youth eternal
This is the most pure rock n roll!!!
Amazing performance... Lee Ranaldos vocals are superb.... Kinda wish he did his variation on his solo works after sonic youth
If punk rock had a Grateful Dead, it was these guys!
Shruggz Da Str8-Faced Clown fuck the grateful dead
Lee is a self-proclaimed Deadhead, so makes sense.
They were called 'the Greatful Dead of the 80s' by some press
Without a Doubt…. Those who know know
Jim really added a lot of depth to their live shows. Saw them on the Murray Street and Sonic Nurse tours and they sounded wonderfully monstrous in person. They were at the height of their powers as a live band during this era IMO. And for me, Murray Street was their best record since Goo, and their last great one. Again, IMO.
Also, I love this version of New Hampshire way more than the album version.
steadystates1: NYC Ghosts & Flowers was their last better-than-average album from start to finish, in my opinion.
@@shruggzdastr8-facedclown All their albums with O'Rourke are their last great albums. "Roxy Music had their Brian Eno, Sonic Youth now has its Jim O'Rourke." - Thurston Moore, 2002.
My uncle saw them in '89. I'm forever jealous.
@@shruggzdastr8-facedclown I really liked 'the eternal'
my god the bloom
I'm so jealous of this band. Total fkn trail blazers.
This is god-like.
I was there...it was magic !of course with the best group of music 'history !
7:57 this guitar intro..... love you guys
Great song pairing.
What a pity, that this concert isn't somewhere available to buy... pure greatness... and I love the end when everyone trances out! Thx for the upload!
fave SY song
So beautiful.
Lee's voice is so soothing
how is thruston moore still a bag of bones at his age lol
lots of drugs and travel
Fantastic! Els millors dels millors!
Thanks for this! Love Mote live. Saw them play back in 92, and I was too busy getting tossed around that I didn't have a chance to actually listen to the song get played, lol.
Fuck yes!! This song is so heavy, fucking love Sonic Youth
crazy baggage to this song. About a girl I met in 1993 and haunted me until 2010 when we got divorced.
love them 😆
SICK
still love it!!

How is it possible I didn't give a try to SY before today? I knew them by name by the only friends I had listening to them were also listening to crappy things...
Got a lot of homework to do to make the last 30 years correction
+Christophe Ravier Better late than never. Discovering them last year for me only started an adventure.
Listen to Sonic Nurse and Murray Street (if you haven't yet); they're very overlooked albums in the band's discography, but they're up there with my favorites.
^ Karen revisited gives me the chills
Stones off Sonic Nurse is flawless as well.
Christophe Ravier : Yeah, better late than never. I've always lived Sonic Youth. So much so, I've been thinking of trying to start a noise art band in their honor... the name Sonic Betty keeps popping into my head! Kind of like Sonic Youth meets Betty Page. Very nostalgic noise. Don't know if I could ever get it off the ground though since I'm 52 years old. LOL. But yeah, we need noise art experimental bands, especially since Sonic Youth and the Mothers of Invention are no more. 😩
Its cool!
Steve shelley ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Right after those sticks hit I get goosebumps
I love Kim!
Just take a hacksaw to it already! Epic!
I LOVE THOSE LEGS❤️
супер сумно, нажаль
Damn, I guess life does begin a 40.
Love Kim on Guitar
Psicadélicos total 👋🤘
Love Mote and shalley is a monster.
Like nobody else.
KIM GODESS
alternative rock at it's best
around minute 6:00 it sounds like Neu! is on stage :)
Totally! Every once in a while they REALLY channel Neu!
How does anyone give this a down vote?
how does lee get that noise at 4:00?? with massive amounts of gain, distortion delay? ive played behind the bridge like that on all kinds of setups and it just doesnt sound that good. would really good fancy overdrives help? lol
Lots of distortion/gain and reverb (reverse?)
Love how at the 4,48 mark evevryone is in a sonic trance
salvajes
does anyone know lee ranaldos pedalboard order for this gig??
Lee 🍻🍻🍻
Man, what'd that guitar do to Thurston?!
;^}
Did Shelley and Kim trade instruments mid-way thru?!
@@shruggzdastr8-facedclown I think you mean Jim
@@electromuff7870: Yes, thanks for the correction -- I did mean Jim

Minor detail but, where is this? So i can google the rest of the gig..

Goo may be their best album.
this shirt though
Gotta wear those Christmas gifts somehow
What's that black guitar Kim's playing?
Lord Fuzzman : That's not black. It's a red SG bass. I had one back in the day. Awesome bottom end bass!
Blind Jack Cotton - nah I was referring to around 12 minutes in. I found out it's a black musima bass. The SG was easy!
Lord Fuzzman : Oh ok the one with the triple pickups. How I missed that one? I guess I really am blind. LOL. I was blinded by Kim's hotness!!!
its in Dublin ?
