I heard this song off of The Vampire Diaries Episode Resident Evil. And this song went beautifully with the scene of Stefan and Elena! I love it. I have listened to it 6 times in a row by now. :)
This song is amazingly beautiful. I discovered it on Vampire Diaries and its the best thing I got out of the series. IMO its the best recorded song I have heard from the last 25-30 years.
i probably think tt this is the best version of the song, tt spooky feel, the melancholy in the tune, the inevitable feeling of pity for how the world has changed all subsumed in this perfect rendition of mad world
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! Sara Hickman is one of my favorite performers. This video is subtle and sensitive. Cudos to Sara, Lily, Lance and Gene!
Mad World" is a song by the British band Tears for Fears. Written by Roland Orzabal and sung by bassist Curt Smith, it was the band's third single release and first chart hit, reaching #3 on the UK Singles Chart in November 1982 Two decades later, the song made a popular resurgence when it was covered by composers Michael Andrews and Gary Jules for the soundtrack to the movie Donnie Darko. This version reached no.1 in the UK in December 2003.
Who is here because Sara and Lili are AWESOME? (and I don't use that word lightly) Sara is a wonderful human being. She is unbelievably kind to her fans and everyone else, too. (She wrote to my young daughter as a pen pal. What star does that? Only Sara!) Besides being so talented, she is a fabulous mother and activist, raising money and awareness for many charities. She was named Texas State Musician of the Year, along with the likes of Willie Nelson and George Strait. I just feel so blessed that my path crossed hers in this lifetime! LOVE YOU, SARA!!!
beautiful! I loved it, and I especially love that both Sara and Lily perform together in this video. Great work, beautiful expression. very glad that you linked it to the collaboration video. :)
I've been a fan of Sara Hickman for a very long time. This video is incredible. The imagery is very powerful and her voice (as well as her daughter's) touch deeply. I am also greatly moved by Gary's version. Still, different versions don't need to be compared in order to equally appreciated. (A candle loses nothing of it's brightness when next to another.) Well done, Sara.
Bleedin' brilliant video, visually much more evocative than previous attempts by other artists. Black & white video of the mother & daughter duo, the whispering uncertainty in Sara Hickman's voice, elegantly simple contrasting images (stained glass/shattered glass, loved child/beaten child, passageway to Heaven/descent to Hell)--perhaps not as chilling as Gary Jules' version, but closer to the spirit of the original song.
Need to watch more TV, I never heard of Vampire Diaries. I was brought here by a Skynews Hotspot special about whats happening in HK, this song was posted at the end of the news piece, it was posted on 8/1/20. Anyway happy new year everyone on this mad, mad world and ciao for now
i love this song and that gury jules sing it and thatthe way sara hickman sang this song too. Sara dont listen to those who say you sang this song really bad as you have your own style and the video was well done and great to watch.......well done sara hickman.....i have a request for another song which i would love you to sing and hear from you......please reply back to me.......take care.5 Stars sara......
I love this song. Represents what I usually think, no, what I always think. Funny how a song can be your actual thoughts or life. Another thing that makes humanity so special
i dont see why so many people hate this cover. sure, this songs been covered countless times. why? because it conveys a strong message, and creates strong emotion. its what every song strives for. yea, i thought some of the visuals were too literal, but some of them were great like the cigarrettes/sunflower. it shows how in nihilistic world these things end up being the same. the younger girl in this video was also a nice touch
Essa música é muito linda, eu achei ela na temporada 5 de diários de um vampiro, no episódio 18 em que a elena sonhar com o sterfan é ele também sonhar com ela, amei esse episódio.....😊❤
though i do not personally like this version of the song, i respect her for having the guts to put it up on the internet and I admire her for having talent.
The "Tears for Fears" version in 1982 was a fast paced hit for Gen Xers. When it was remade in Donnie Darko and Sara Hickman (this version), it's slower, and deeper. "Hello Teacher tell me what's my lesson--looked right through me" takes on a whole new meaning when you become the 40 year old teacher.
I like it. It's a nice exploration into the song - very nice touch with the girl and very creative. If you don't like it or you don't like covers by rule then DONT LISTEN to them.
I came here after fireworks with Eileen and Sara, her best friend Charlotte and Katie, my daughter Sara stolen from me without permission .... and Leah Mercer’s book read 2019. Have suffered ptsd since finding out Nov 2018 with everyone else knowing and not telling me anything. Even my so called best friends and husband didn’t tell me! sending you healing and all my love 😩🔥😭🙌🏼 please make them stop the abuse xx 😘
My favorite cover of this song. Sara's an awesome writer in her own right and is a fab guitar player too. Check out her website and give a listen to her other stuff. It's all good.
I disagree with most of you. G. Jules is great, but this version is incredibly haunting, especially at 3:07 when the background vocals come in. Maybe it's just me but this version just blows me away. Thanks for posting!
The song was originally on the radio in 1982/83 by Tears for Fears. I've lived in Canada all my life and I remember it. I'm pretty sure that it was on the radio in the States at the same time.

Wow! This is beautiful in every way. I love the imagery you used and the arrangement/production is gorgeous. Wow!...oh, I already said that.

I loved all the circles!
A brilliant rendition of a brilliant piece of music. I fear nothing. The cost of that is hope. Perhaps that in itself is optimistic.
some parts of the video are very beautiful.
She does a fine job with this cover version
Not a big Sara Hickman fan, but I think this is the best version of this song. She really gets the point across
She is amazing.

Well said. I too feel the ever quickening pace toward the impending shift.
"Hello Teacher, what's my lesson" takes on a whole new meaning when you become the teacher. That's the echo 25 years later.
