I had the same one today. The tip was not sharpened equally but it should be resharpened with a diamond sharpener as you did. This blade is middle sized but it will work as a hatchet in the wild. I was so lucky to have this one in my country, Japan.

Looks like a big belly of a blade. Short and stout. I have seen similar knives and seems like the reviews are mixed. One big thing I like is it doesn't claim to be the only knife you will ever need. Enjoyed the video. Interesting opening to a very utilitarian bush knife lol.

I’m not generally a big knife fan, but a really good, big knife is a whole different thing. I’ve 120+ small, sub 3" pocket knives but my huge ADV Butcher remains a favourite! This would make a great companion to an Opinel 7 or 8 for any camping trip. I like the look of this and would buy one, if I could see any use for it in my tetraplegic life and/or it was easily available in the uk.

Only two fasteners for handle scales on burly knives bothers me. I know the divot of bushcraft truth is in the way in the middle, but I need the redundancy of three fasteners for my level of hardcore. The knife is basically a technologically advanced caveman's rock, so piddly fasteners and a ferro rod for ants doesn't seem right. Three big fasteners with big flat head slots that you could jam a coin (or flat shaped post currency bartering item) into is what I want. I know I could smelt iron ore deposits and forge a replacement fastener, but during time sensitive situations like an ambush on the valley people I need reliability. And I need a ferro rod I can hand down to the wasteland urchin I take under my wing. We have made a long journey toward the place in the East where the water is said to flow. I breath my last rasping radiation cancer riddled breath. The promise of warm campfire light twinkling on the horizon. So close now but just out of reach. "Here, take this. Keep it close... don't let the darkness win..." Weathered hand falls onto dusty ground. Motionless. Offering the ferro rod as a final expression of the thin thread of humanity I maintained to the end... So three fasteners and a big ferro rod would be good.

Unfortunately, the blade was weakened by making 3 holes next to each other (lashing holes + bolt hole), a basic design flaw.

i’m not sure of distributors apart from their main site at halfbreedblades.com.au and the US price is just from a conversion via google, just cos AUD means very little to my predominantly US audience.
also: I know the worlds being stupid and weird at the moment. Movies and fun events are being cancelled and every dingus on YT is talking out their arse about stuff that is frankly a massive bummer.
So I’ll try and keep the content flowing - that way we’ve all got something fun to do in the various conditions we are all operating under. Remember if its all getting too much to go and pat a dog or something. Dogs are super.

This may remind you of an MSK-1 but I can assure you the Halfbreed stomped the MSK-1 into the ground.
That MSK-1 is more gimmicky then any knife for use in the field. He over sells the MSK-1 on its performance. And let me say that several knives are way better then that MSK-1 piece of s#!t .
I would take a Becker BK series like the BK2 long before I would ever touch another of the MSK-1 knives.
I really hate the MSK-1. "If you could only have one knife, what would it be?"
Well if that question is for me then I would have to say Becker, Esse , Fallkniven , Puma White Hunter , Extrema Ratio , the Halfbreed Lbk-01, Scar Blades Papa Bear .. and the lists go on and on.
Do NOT waste your money on the MSK-1 people. Look at people who have used them and you will find well over half are disappointed with that way overpriced piece of junk. Seriously.

    • @Patriot-rising
      @Patriot-rising Рік тому +1

@@CedricAda Well Halfbreed never claimed to be the only knife you will ever need. Nor do they call the LBK-01 a "Survival knife " .
The MSK-1 hypes up their knives so more suckers purchase them. The MSK-1 should be selling for around the $65.00 mark. It doesn't outperform a Becker BK2 . So it shouldn't sell for more than a Becker BK2.

I would also like to state along with the Halfbreed lbk-01 , you should carry a lightweight folder for certain tasks that the LBK-01 doesn't do quite as well.
I personally think the Ontario Rat 1 fits that slot quite well. And let's face it people adding a decent folder really doesn't add that much more weight. Silky to call a knife the only knife you will ever need.
I have never found a knife that does everything very well.

Pete, I don’t think you should worry about knife companies sending you knives to review and giving a bad review. As much as we like your videos most of us know you’re not the end all be all when it come to knives, but just a dude giving us information and entertainment with stuff we like. Just give us your honest opinion bad or good, who cares? This actually gives you more credibility and what’s the worst that can happen, the knife company stops sending you knives for review, which you don’t like doing anyway. Win, win.

When talking about the steel used for this blade . You could have just stated it is Bohler K110/D2 . This is a much different D2 compared to the Chinese D2 that everyone can not stand.
When we did a hardness test though it was a bit harder than what you said but not by much. I am sure they were thinking in advance that if it is too hard it becomes rather brittle.
This however ( as silly as it sounds) is NOT a survival knife according to multiple sources. I always found that rather hilarious because bushcraft is an important part of every survivak knife. Basic bushcrafting is an important part of every survival knife.
Here is where my opinion lies when talking about this style of blade , so just the knives that have the same basic design.
There are a few that fit this design.
    They are the Halfbreed Lbk-01
Scar Blades Papa Bear or even just the Bear.
    The MSK-1
We basically took the Papa Bear , the MSK-1 and the Halfbreed into the backcountry for a solid week of hard use.
Let is start with the worse one of these three. The way over rated MSK-1. We ran into a few problems with the MSK-1 like edge retention which was absolutely horrible and it also chipped near the tip when batoning. Something they clearly claim is designed for that task. Remember, this is suppose to be the last knife you will ever need.
Anyway that was absolutely the worse one of the bunch.
The Scar Blades and the Halfbreed both performed about the same with a few minor differences.
The Papa Bear out performed the LBK-01 when used for chopping it also was slightly better at feather sticks.
But when it came to batoning this is where the Halfbreed shined. The Papa Bear has a sharp serrated edge on the spine and near the tip. This basically chewed up a lot of the wood being used as a baton.
As for edge retention which they both were pretty close to each other with the Halfbreed holding a slightly better edge.
The handles and scales. The Papa Bear actually has a much better design in this area. It really does give you more options for proper hand placement. Has the same ability when choked up and using the finger choil as the Halfbreed. While using the first position once again they performed about the same. I would like to add however that the Halfbreed was a bit more comfortable.
Last position, the portion of the grip back towards the pommel. The Papa Bear was a clear winner here and is most likely the very reason it outperformed the Halfbreed when chopping.
Sheaths or scabbard as some people call them. They both once again were about the same but the Halfbreed was superior when it came to mounting and knife positions. I actually really dislike the belt loop on the Papa Bear. It is a super dumb design.
Using a ferro rod neither of these knives worked well at all.
The Halfbreed comes with a bow drill pivot already provided on both sides. The Papa Bear you have to create one.
This is really the only area the MSK-1 was better. They have a insert which will not wear out the scales like the other two.
The MSK-1 brags about their combat sheath. Well the other two can also be set up the same way so the MSK once again over hyped this option.
We also by the way testes the Halfbreed LBF against the Extrema Ratio RAO II . The Extrema Ratio outperformed the Halfbread in so many ways. Sorry to say Halfbreed has more work to do on their folders . Maybe consider a cross pin as well which makes the knife a fixed blade when need be.
Cool review. I actually kinda rolled my eyes at your antics. I would have preferred a more serious review.

These things are crazy expensive in the UK.
    £415.
That is a crazy price for D2, D2 is a dirt cheap steel. They look like excellent quality, fit & finish wise.
But to put it into perspective.
Bark river bravo 2 in 3V is 300 after import fees.
GSO 6 in 3V 300 after Import fees.
TRC apocalypse is about the same price at 400.
You can get pretty much any fixed blade you want for the price of the LBK.

Still would love to see your take on the WCSK :) A 5.625 inch long blade in 3/16 thick AEBL with a 11.5 degree edge all along it, and a custom heat treat at 61+ that seems to allow it to go through breeze blocks, car door steel, and deer bone without significant damage to the edge.
