Some of my recommendations:
On Colonialism: The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen. This is an absolutely stunning book that I am currently reading but cannot help scream off the rooftops about. It's utterly beautiful to me!
Contemporary literary that doesn't feel pretentious: Where the Heart is by Billie Letts. A book that will capture your heart and make you fall in love with the simple beauty of literary and contemporary fiction.
Mystery/Thriller: Still See You Everywhere by Lisa Gardner. This is an amazing fast paced, unputdownable book that I couldn't help but finish in a day. Lisa Gardner's books often manage to do that for me.
Books to read when you want to feels smart: Non Fiction: Caste by Isabel Wilkerson. Fiction: Prophet Song by Paul Lynch. These aren't books to read to feel smart but to learn about the world and some of its most crucial and fundamental issues in a beautiful and accessible manner.
Loveddd “the lady’s guide to celestial mechanics” and the other ones that author has 😩✨💕

The Invocations fits the dark urban gothic witchy vibes 💯
For historical sapphic romance I always recommend A Long Time Dead by Samara Breger and Mortal Follies by Alexis Hall!

Best wishes with what you choose to read. I hope you get some great stories. I'm currently reading the Count of Monte Cristo so I may be some time! Happy reading.
The Thing About Home by Rhonda McKnight is so heartwarming, found family, and everything you mentioned in the first rec. I found it on Tiktok.

Hi! saved the video to take notes on recommendations! I really love mother-daughter relationship. I have read Annie John by Jamaica Kincaid and became a favorite book. Another book that touches on maternity, not on mother-daughter specifically, is Joys of motherhood by Buchi Emecheta! ❤❤
I adore your videos (;I’m sending you love❤
I want to read an urban fantasy book that reminds me of Final Fantasy or a sci-fi book that reminds me of Persona.
I hope you make a video about alice feeney's books
