His falsetto was weaker but could still sing high although noticeably rougher due to his op. Considering how much his voice has deepened over the years it's a miracle that most of the songs he does are in original key.
idk if the op did it or damaging his voice did that . Let's be honest here when I say that the op didn't fully fix his voice , but did enough to where he could start sounding good again. He never got back everything he lost, but most of it yes
The throat op stabilized his voice so he could carry on singing and it did change quite alot. There was no way he could have carried on singing with polyps as he sounded awful.
@@jaggass yes 100% agree
His upper falsetto range started to get a little wonky during the end of the 1984 shows, he seemed relatively uncomfortable at times. His voice really started to change into 85 and 86 before the surgery. The surgery did mostly repair his voice but only to the 85-86 sound. Whether it was overused vocal chords, drug use, or process of age, the loss of his falsetto doesn’t seem to be on the op
Totally wrong, his voice was already damaged and modified before the surgery. The surgery only removed the problems and restored his voice to the state he had around 86
I'm so tired of all the people say he can't sing anymore, his voice is shot and so on... For me this man was at his best in the late 90's to early 00's. I love his post surgery voice so much more and it suits better to most of his ballads. And even today at 74 years his voice is still a powerhouse when he pushes it to the limit, its simply way more exhausting for him now and he knows he have to save his voice when he's going to play 100 Shows in a row. I'm curious how he sounds after that long Covid break when he's perfectly rested. I expect the best shows from the whole farewell tour
1976-1979 were the real magic years for his live vocals but his voice has still held up well and has great character. His vocals after quitting drugs ‘91-‘04 were really great also.
@@brendanmcgann8633 his prime live was 1979 - Early 1986 . Almost all elton fans say that , but I will say his voice after quitting drugs is tons better than 1989 .
@@Bruh1986. Couldn't Agree more. I saw an excellent video from 1974 recently and thought his voice sounded a bit thin compared to the early 80s. The thing that bugs me a bit is that I didn't see Elton live until 1992 and saw him several times after that. I wish he had a tried to hit a few of the higher notes as you've shown he could have even if it was just a couple here and there it would have added to the experience.
Even Elton talks about how much his own voice sucks now. It is what it is.
@@jeffroutledge9153 when you get older and loose a while bunch of range you will say you can’t sing anymore . But Elton is incorrect, nobody can keep sounding like they did in their 20s forever . But people like you fail to realize that
Thanks for putting this together! I’ll never understand why Elton’s falsetto is never included in compilations of musicians with the best falsettos.
he's really good , even today
That Barcelona 92 clip for the ending of LLB is probably top 3 best post surgery versions
The note at 0:30 almost knocked me out of my chair. Wow. Shades of Through the Storm in terms of improbability.
The South African 1993 show is really great for falsettos. It's like he had a time machine for that show.
then you need to see shows from the American leg of the solo 1993 shows
@@Bruh1986. Sounds good. I saw him around that time in Washington dc and he didn't try any note like that. I will check it out though.
@@chrisbooth3417 check out fort lauderdale
@@satyabratamishra4670 Thanks. I will.
Simplesmente Elton JOHN
Surprised to not see Goodbye Yellow Brick Road performances from 1997 on this list.
He played on lower tuning, but still hit the falsettos there and sounded like a more mature verion of 84'-85' Elton with the way he sang the lyrics.
Who Gives a F@RK I bought ALL of his Vinyls way back in the 70s and everything for the MUSIC da and the BUZZ. We ALL get old with affected voices but Elton has stood the test of time. Give him Kudos instead of dissecting His vocals thru the decades FGS
1993 Elton is probably the best version of him after the 70s. He looked good. Looked a little younger. The toupee was good (unlike that 1997 one) and he was playing well and singing very well. In 1992 he seemed to be trying hard to look like how he did around 1972 so that's interesting, too.
Haha, that is so funny I had the same exact conclusion! Early 90’s Elton seems like he want to copy 70’s Elton. Which is interesting to see.
I actually like Elton's 1997 toupee over 1993
The best toupee was 2006 around the time of The Captain & The Kid. The one he wears today is awful.
@@foxpianocoversykw the captain and the kid tour was also stellar but i liked the peachtree road tour more in terms of live performances
he was still able to do philly freedom pretty well for a while. still sounds great even without the falsettos today of course
All the young girls love Alice, solid Bb
The “Give you my number” falsetto is actually a Bb4
Great video nonetheless
oh , oops . I'm not that good with pitch .
Many, due to lack of research, say that the surgery was responsible for the vocal change, but Elton himself caused it. He didn't take care of himself properly, smoked marijuana and used cocaine. He wasn't resting the right way, so he was harmed. He could even say that the surgery was a blessing, it put him back on track, as he began to lead a more conscious life.
I'm surprised you didn't use the Grosvenor 1990 show, it was full of falsettos!
I was using moving footage
@@Bruh1986. I was gonna say that but I then noticed there's just audio footage with pictures from like 4:08 to 4:50 or so.
Anyways, great video!
I included some of that show in part 8 ua-cam.com/video/vMHZpp23Dlw/v-deo.html
What is the name of the song at 1:47?
Philadelphia freedom
@@Bruh1986. Thanks!
I think he had his falsetto the entire time but was too lazy to use it
From what I've read, His falsetto is not gone.
The timbre of his falsetto was deepened due to the smoking. He just didn't like how it sounded post-surgery, so he barely used it since.
Some random people: HE COMPLETELY LOST HIS FALSETTO LOLOLOLOLOLOL LIAR
Bruh: big bruh moment
Elton’s falsetto: Am I a joke to you?
