I'm a Millennial (born in 1983) and this song always made me cry growing up, and for good reason. I actually think (although I will of course never know for sure) that it helped both of my fathers be better fathers to me and spend more time with me all of my life. However, now, I am at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, where Mr. Chapin studied Architecture and Philosophy! No wonder he could craft such a saddening, yet timeless piece of art as this one. Go Harry and Go Big Red!
@@schnittmagier5515 Nope, this university (as does any if you treat it correctly) brings people peace and joy. Please just do some research into Harry's background, not just where he went to school, and you will be able to tell why he could craft a song so iconic and yet so melancholy that helps families stay together to this day.
This song literally inspired me to be as present as I possibly could for my kids, and now that my youngest is about ready to move out, I'm moved to tears once again. But I was there all the way. All the freaking way.
God how I miss this marvelous, magnificent Giant of a man!!!! I love you Harry and all your love, care, music, donations, devotion to humanity and passion for everything that came in contact with you!!!

Do i understand the last part of you post correctly? Is this university depressing or causing melancholy? If so why?

Trying to live it, too, brother. Strength to know it mattered to some other Dad.
